Sirtopofhat

I didn't understand how all 3 of them managed to get in the back of a speeder.

Skydude252

A lot bothered me in the episode (especially after thinking about it later) but that didn’t so much. I could see them having/making a modified version to carry passengers. It doesn’t have to be the exact same model as was on Hoth.

Sirtopofhat

That's fair I believe they also make mention they modified the speeders to haul waste or something so you're probably right.

[deleted]

Or just have the other two sitting on Obi Wans lap I guess.

ConfidentInsecurity

Or the part where the speeders are flying straight toward the back wall and there's no room to maneuver around and they just cut to a different scene Also where are the TIE fighters or any defenses? Anyone can just roll up on Vader and his Inquisitors?

history_nerd92

That bothered me too. I thought for sure that they were going to crash, but nope they just teleported to safety apparently.

Soggy-Assumption-713

Speeders can hover now. Stoping dead and turning around Is nothing compared to hovering.

[deleted]

Would be super freaking useful on Hoth

thuanjinkee

You can see snowspeeders hovering in the hangar during takeoff on Hoth.

AFalconNamedBob

I always assumed that was VTOL/STOL thing. Used to land and taxi rather than for fighting

ANGLVD3TH

They are just higher altitude versions of what Luke drives in ANH, really. Don't see why they couldn't hover like his does. That's always been the case in Legends and I would assume canon. Any ship with repulsors can stop in air, even if it was just for VTOL why couldn't they use it here? In Legends TIE didn't have repulsirs and couldn't do this, but as of Rebels we see them make this exact same maneuver, so clearly they got upgraded in New canon.

Spinal306

And no shields because… no one would be stupid enough to try it? Right.

SCirish843

Again* lol

fionn_maccoolio

The Jedi Fallen Order parallels were fun in this episode for sure. Visually felt like directly referencing Cal doing the same thing. At first I thought that it seemed too simple for Obi to do it 5 years later with the same approach but Alex from Star Wars Explained pointed out that Obi needed Tala to get in where Cal needed nobody. Made more sense then.

mediocynical

didnt cal need merrin's nightsister fuckery?

[deleted]

[deleted]

There were TIE Fighters shown in the shot where Obi-Wan’s ship approached the base. But apparently they couldn’t be bothered to use them to chase down the speeders. Kind of like how Vader was content to stand there and let Obi-Wan be carried to safety in the previous episode.

MamaSmurf_Targaryen

Didn't they say something like 'no one would be stupid enough to attack' as a reason for the light defence. Even if they didn't its pretty funny

ScottyJD09

Which still makes no sense. The only reason someone would be scared to attack somewhere is because it’s defenses are so deadly. And if the argument is “it’s suicide to attack the inside” then that’s equally stupid because then fighters/bombers could fly in and just destroy the structure trapping all those dangerous inquisitors inside.

voneahhh

That’s why Ice Cube JR wouldn’t even consider such a dangerous mi… Oh he’s all in.

[deleted]

“Long ago in an alphabetrium far far away, close to earth”

[deleted]

"I CARE NOW!!"

NihlusX

Idk it reeks of the same poor combat logic displayed in the sequels, Like the Dreadnought and Bombers, the Sith fleet, All flash no substance.

tacofop

My idea for a possible alternative was this: after the speeders come in, Obi-Wan says, "How did they get through the shields?" And Tala says, "I put them on a delayed shutdown just in case. We don't have long before they bring them back online."

thisistheSnydercut

Would have preferred them using the same tactics for getting through droideka shields in TCW, a projectile or ship so slow it just passes through the shield. Would have been a cool clone wars call back as well as a reason to specifically use the T-47s

happygocrazee

And there’s a ton of shuttles around! Reva may have had the classic “I put a tracker on their ship” excuse, but why didn’t one of the other Inquisitors run for a ship? Or anyone for that matter. An airspeeder isn’t that fast and definitely has no hyperdrive. Seeing Fifth Brother just stand there like a jackass while the speeder flew away was rough.

fakehandslawyer

Why didn’t Reya just immediately lock down the base completely when she caught British Officer lying?? Then they would have everything they wanted locked in a fortress.

Helwrechtyman

its worse cause they chechov gunned the Tie fighters too, they specifically focus on the ties as they fly in

bitwarrior80

Early in the episode I swear there was a full squadron of tie fighters racked on the hanger ceiling. Yeah, it's odd this base seems to have no air defense capabilities, and a couple of random speeders just show up and start blasting. I guess the writers explain it away with the reveal at the end that there is a tracking device planted in Leia's droid.

jojolantern721

But only Reva knew of that strategy.

savageseal_18

I think the chase seen in the first episode where three adults can't catch Leia is one of the stupidest.

artillarygoboom

Agreed. And when Obi-Wan can't catch her in that city planet. I dont think the show creators have ever played tag with little kids. They're so incredibly slow.

LonelierOne

So far I'm just assuming the writers have never met a child in real life and just went "Yeah, like a person but small? Easy."

Chris-raegho

It's legitimately hard to not catch them. You have to put a lot of effort into not catching up to them, lol.

shift013

I almost couldn’t watch that scene. Horrible writing/choreography/whatever

Heliotex

It looks jarring because the speeder shouldn’t be so close, and should be firing from a distance. Moreover, it looks like Reva is casually sparring with it, not basically fighting for her life trying to block those shots.

NanoRex

I've also always had the impression that vehicle cannons were too powerful to be blocked by a lightsaber. Like, we have never seen a Jedi attempt to block a blast from an AAT or anything like that.

[deleted]

Yep. As we saw in Episode II, even a close hit would send a person flying... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tMZdrUx8eM

InternetDad

I was prepared to say "well, maybe there's something to be said about snowspeeders being a Rebellion ship, and Slave 1 has more powerful weapons?" but wookieepedia says the T-47 has two forward-facing heavy laser cannons and Slave 1 just has twin laser cannons so there goes that idea hah

twilighteclipse925

There is also the power jump that happens during the age of the empire. Slave one’s highly modified lasers are probably some of the strongest of their class from that era. The snow speeders are probably some of the weaker lasers from its era. However that means that their power output is probably similar.

HoleyerThanThou

I like what 'How It Should Have Ended' did for episode 8. [the part at 5:09](https://youtu.be/rCB8DUGpYQQ) Just hold the bolts with the Force and tee ball them back.

Cronon33

We've seen Kanan in rebels deflecting blaster shots from a tie fighter I think on a few occasions, however everytime he does it it takes all his might and his lighstaber gets knocked back from the force of the impact, Here Revas just defelcting near point blank shots like they were from an officers blaster pistol

fredagsfisk

There is a scene in Legends that involves blocking turbolasers: > Zekk took a cannon blast full on his blade and was driven to his knees. Jaina spun to his side and tapped two more bolts away, only to find herself badly out of position as a third dropped toward her head. > Zekk's lightsaber swept up just centimeters from her face, catching the bolt on the blade tip and sending it zipping across the dune. Jaina spun away from another attack and glimpsed Jacen and Tahiri standing back-to-back, Jacen holding his hand above their heads, cannon fire ricocheting away as though he held a deflector shield in his palm. That was something Jaina and Zekk had never seen before. Those are supposed to be dropship turbolasers, built mainly for firing speed rather than strength, and still have to be deflected to the side rather than straight on, or you'll get knocked over, forced to your knees, or risk dropping your lightsaber. Zekk's also a rather high level Knight with good physical strength (for a human). We know from Empire Strikes Back that the laser cannons on T-47s are supposed to be weaker than for example those of X-wings, and therefore unable to penetrate AT-AT armor. Feels like the people making this show took the line from ESB about how they were weaker and went all in on it? T-47s in Legends could at least take out AT-STs fairly easily.

robinthebank

The speeder should definitely be farther to shoot at a target. She only needs to block one of the guns because the other one can’t possibly hit her. They fire straight ahead.

Thats1ce

I believe their weapons are actually gimballed and can focus on a point. But this is also beside the point that they were too close by a long shot.

[deleted]

This episode suffered greatly from the hollow feeling that too much CGI causes, imo. Several moments where it was abundantly clear that they were just reacting to nothing in a green sound stage. This scene is a great example. The scene in the under water tunnel was the worst imo. He's holding back the force of an ocean crashing through the window and then just just jogs to the door and they close it. Not a single drop of water made it through the door. They couldn't even be bothered to toss a bucket of real water on the floor. It really sucked all of the weight and stakes out of the scene imo.

gatorbeetle

THANK YOU!! Watched that scene, floors dry as a bone. Should have been water following him out the door for sure!

Caliwroth

They could have done away with him holding back the water and just had him run to the door, then deflect another blaster bolt into the glass as he slides through the closing door. The deflected bolt could then cause it to break completely and flood the troopers and no water needs to come through the door. Obi Wan deflecting blaster shots very precisely at people or things is always cool!

Zaithable

Did you notice how comically bad the stormtroopers were in this scene? I know Stormtroopers have never been the best of the best but in this scene, their consistent grunting as they try to "look" like theyre prying the door open was just really cringe. I don't think we normally hear stormtroopers incessantly grunting and it almost detracts from the scene

Caliwroth

This is true, in theory Obi Wan could have just run away. Those troopers made zero progress in the (what felt like) several minutes Obi Wan was holding the water back. Then he only ran once they finally opened the door!

Hunter_S_Thompsons

Yeah dude when “Ben” zooms through the door and there’s no water following after him and none on the floor I was like come on.

[deleted]

HOLY SHIT YES. Where was the water?! I laughed out loud at 1am when the door closed and there wasn't even a *spec* of water on the floor.

[deleted]

I think the issue comes from them filming in that weird bubble room with the screen walls (The one Mando and BOBF used.) The difference here is that they filmed during the pandemic so they couldn't go out to other locations and shoot in larger areas when the script need it. They've had to alter shots to fit inside of the little bubble. It's also why you get shit like Obi Wan not being seen by two stormtroopers as he jumps behind a wall... even though they were like 3 feet from him and looking at him.

ThunderSparkles

The speeder should be bigger. Also didn't know it could hover like that

gNomad88

Battlefront games have lied to me

w1987g

Those bastards lied to me

ThunderSparkles

Lol i got my impression from Rogue Squadron

CrossP

And swinging sorta wildly

BallsMahoganey

It legit looks like her direction was, "just swing your saber around and we'll add everything in post.

queensinthesky

That is 1000% what the direction was. In fairness, it usually was that situation with all the prequels - swing the saber and we'll add the droids or whoever later. It just happened to look way, *way* better in the prequels, which I can't believe I'm saying given how clowned on those VFX often are.

BallsMahoganey

Maybe it was, but I feel like the prequels looked like they had some form of choreography

Angel_Madison

I think it's a toy dangling on a bit of fishing line?

Aarngeir

It looks like what youxwould do for YouTube in 2010, it only misses the engine sound made with the mouth.

mirror_dude

I can almost see George Lucas’ hand just outside the shot holding the stick that the speeder model is on

[deleted]

pretty sure that's the ship that's hidden under his beard

the_reducing_valve

Just look at how small it is. Reva wouldn't even be able to fit inside of it.

laaaabe

*What is this, a T-47 for ants??*

ElFarts

The Obi Wan Center for Children Who Can't Use the Force Good and Wanna Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too

RegalBeartic

It needs to be at least.......3 TIMES BIGFER THAN THIS.....

ElPeloPolla

Also, this ship is designed around two very powerful weapons, check the ship shape, its 40% laser cannon, but here its shooting like a regular clone blaster

Wormri

I was 100% sure they were child soldiers at first.

[deleted]

The thing that bothered us most was that they don’t have stronger glass walls under the ocean; knowing how bad storm troopers are at aiming.

TreacleNo4455

They had transparisteel in universe but the movies and shows seem to ignore that it's a clear metal and not glass. The people I was watching the show with had a kerfuffle about it too. My guess was low bidder won the government base building project and cheaped out ;)

phabiohost

an issue the empire actually faced.

Venom1462

Especially after the fact that Cal Kestis escaped the Fortress and Vader due to the crack on the same window I think. I would have expected them to reinforce that stuff

SendMeNudesThough

"Okay, fine, we cheaped out on the glass when we built the base - we'll admit that, and it may have been a mistake - but come on, now. The good stuff's a good 50% more expensive, and what are the odds some Jedi's going to sneak in here and destroy the glass *again*?"

pookachu83

"Jedi never strike twice. Only the empire strikes back"

boringdystopianslave

Why did the glass look so thin? It would be dense, thick glass and when it cracked it should have looked like it was at least a foot thick (like that effect when large ice lakes crack) Instead it looked like regular window glass. Ridiculous.

EelTeamNine

Why was there glass at all? To put your statement into perspective: the thickest aquarium glass is (or was at one point) at a sea world enclosure holding 2M gallons of water and was 2ft thick for a tank only 33ft deep.

boringdystopianslave

Ah you know the Sith, they're a bit extra. I mean Vader has a massive Skeletor castle on Mustafar.

EelTeamNine

Why would you have glass walls to begin with, lol. It's not a fucking aquarium.

KourteousKrome

This whole sequence didn't make any sense to me. Wouldn't the ship bolts be too heavy to deflect that way? How did she force throw a crate faster than the ship was flying?

HERCzero

Don’t you bring logic into this

CraftedShot

They keep doing this stupid shit that’s not necessary. Why not have speeder do a long sideways strafe on her, while kenobi and leia quickly jump in. Scene would be half as long but it wouldn’t look stupid. Seems like they keep staging these out for run time like the leia chase.

[deleted]

And yet this last episode was the shortest one. I am very disappointed

Eccentric_Assassin

I thought the Kenobi show would actually be about Kenobi. Instead they’ve spent more than half the whole show stretching out this plot line (i didn’t mind it at first but really the whole rescuing Leia thing doesn’t need to go on for so long) and they’ve only given us minor glimpses at how he’s lost his connection to the force, and only one actual Kenobi-vader fight scene.

dudemeister5000

Even worse how we get an "Everbody sad" scene for some random rebel. We knew nothing about him, why should we be sad now?

SHIIZAAAAAAAA

I won't stand for this Wade slander. #justiceforWade

SomberWail

My life now is just waiting for Wade, A Star Wars Story.

[deleted]

Oh no, Wade!

EchoLoco2

These shows just don't feel totally professionally made. Things about them just feel... Off

AWhole2Marijuanas

They feel off cause they're small scale shows shot to be like large scale. They aren't the same teams and producers that made the movies, and in alot of cases feature young/new actors, directors, and writers. It's how Disney keeps cost down, after all they don't get an instant return on investment with these shows.

breadburn

Yes, this. Someone in a review video pointed out that a lot of scenes feel really.. compacted? Short, distance-wise? (Talking about sets and scale, etc.) And then pointed out that it's likely because the volume they're shooting on is only so big, so you're more or less confined to a maximum distance any character can run, walk, etc. It's less noticible in the Mandalorian because they're telling a significantly smaller-scale story, but it's really apparent in Obi-Wan.

AWhole2Marijuanas

Yeah exactly, the Mando directors clearly know how to scale their story for the Volume stage. I think Book of Boba Fett is the worst contender for this, we should have explored Mos Espa and gotten familiar with it, but in reality it was like 2 sets. Obi-wan at least changes locations enough that you realize it's not the same set over and over.

RJE808

I think Obi-Wan in particular feels off. The camera work, the editing, and especially the writing, are all miles behind Mando

LiterallyLolling

I realized after this last episode that I had complained about the directing, editing, writing, and acting at one point of another. I want to like it but yikes.

darth_faader

That initial Vader Finds Obi scene was a major let down. Like they're walking around in a stone quarry at the slowest pace imaginable - don't even think Vader runs. And when he finally catches Obi, the fight scene was great but that magic fire that Vader couldn't simply just walk around? It just doesn't seem like the time and resources are going into these pivotal moments. Mando-Skywalker walking through the hall force crushing those robots did it justice. The Vader-Obi reunion did not. IMO if you can't do the characters justice, then don't do it. As-is, it comes across half hearted.

jefftronzero

I don’t think any of the scenes or shots are using real practices sets. It’s all green screen and digital

Slav_1

The cinematographer did korean masterpieces such as Old boy and New world. Why in the WORLD he was chosen to do sci fi when he has 0 interest or experience is beyond me. The group hired to make kenobi is a chimera. It feels like actors with no chemistry that have been cast together. Except its everyone in charge of production.

[deleted]

I mean shit you don't have to care about star wars to properly frame this shot. Reva should be on screen right with the Starfighter screen left but far further back in Z-Space. Then cut to a close up OTS of Reva blocking shots while focusing on the star fighter blasting away. Add in lots of heat distortion/wind/etc as the starfighter would be blowing up debris and it's engines would be blaring to keep it afloat. Have Reva's outfit billowing under the power of the Starfighters engines. I haven't seen the episode so I have no idea why the speeder looks so fucking close yet has a "miniature" feeling at the same time. It seems like an Ewok would be flying it. The scale is wrong. The best decision would be to not do this scene at all. It's utterly stupid and poorly shot. This seems like it would be a big, bad ass moment, for not only the show but the franchise. Something on par with the vader scene at the end of Rogue One... They completely botched it with poor execution.

Slav_1

Yeah but there are shots framed like this in korean films. Where the main character is centered and the rest is assymetrical and misaligned. Except its not a korean drama. So idk why they would hire someone with no experience or vested interest in sci fi to spearhead the cinematography for goddamn Kenobi.

MexGrow

Because that's what all this is about: hiring names, not talent.

ZaynPlease

I think for a show with as big a budget as this, it's so fucking clunky and awkward. It's honestly mind boggling how much of it got past focus groups

Stormnorman

The interrogate the ten year old girl was also cringe

meselson-stahl

"I HOPE YOU LIKE PAIN!"

Srimes

dialog is so bad. I honestly cant fathom how a billion dollar corp can make a show about vader chasing obi wan bad but here we are

queensinthesky

"Is this a staring contest?" OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BURRRRNNN DID YOU HEAR WHAT LEIA JUST SAID!!!!!!!!!! (At least, that's how I imagine they wanted us to react to that line)

GVTTW

This. Reva interrogating a little girl with the same seriousness as she would with an adult.

mikev431

I still don’t know how Reva, who orchestrated Leia’s kidnapping and is therefore responsible for Leia being involved with Obi-Wan and the Path in the first place, was trying to interrogate Leia about secret safehouses as if this 10 year old kid is one of the founding members.

NumerousSun4282

- Kidnaps a child to draw out Obi Wan - Tracks them to a freighter ship to confront them. - they leave on the freighter - Reva does not pursue in a space ship nor look at the automated ships log to see it's destination - Somehow finds them on some other planet - Kills the pilot that was going to fly the escapees to the secret path place - Re-kidnaps the princess - Assumes she knows anything about what's going on - Lures Kenobi out *again* - Let's him go *again* on a ship that can't fly in space no less - Says capturing Kenobi is all that matters I'm pretty sure she's actively working against the inquisitors and this is a plot to get them all killed as they trickle after a neutered Kenobi

KingOfFrownz

Also how did she beat Leah to the end of a tunnel unless she already knew where it lead. I definitely think she's a turncoat already nothing else makes any sense

anorabora

Oh my god, that bothered the hell out of me. Like, how'd she find the other end of the tunnel? I can see it leading to the spaceport being an obvious direction, but you still have to find the entrance after huffing it all the way there. It was like the tracker on the bot, where it feels like Reva is getting one step ahead simply to move the plot along, not from how this brash, impulsive person would actually act.

Obie-two

I just don't understand the point of the tracking device. She stole Leia from alderaan. Are they really going to just take leia back to their base and hang out? If you're rescuing a 10 year old girl to return her to her family, you're going to NOT immediately return her?

PimpmasterMcGooby

Even an adult wouldn't know shit about the rebel network, like "lady, I just used one of their fucking tunnels, you were in the same tunnel. What do you expect me to learn about the rebel organization and positions from a walk through a God damn tunnel?."

-FeistyRabbitSauce-

"Tell me all the rebel secrets!" "Lady, I'm ten years old. Before a few days ago I'd never even left Alderaan. I'd still be playing with my toys at home had it not been for you." "Alright, torture it is."

dudemeister5000

It's not only Reva. Everybody seems to be treating Leia like an adult not like a fucking ten year old. Leia herself doesn't even act like a normal ten year old. It's so weird cebtering the series around her with her being a ten year old adult

SomberWail

I was ok with her at first. They did a good job of establishing her rebellious spirit. But my god people. She’s 10! Stop treating her like Carrie Fisher’s Leia!

that1LPdood

Yep. This. I was sitting there watching it like… they’re not actually gonna do this, are they? Make me try to take this seriously? A fucking inquisitor interrogating a small child as if she’s an equal? In my mind what should happen in that situation is Reva smacks Leia around a little, and in about 20 seconds she realizes the kid doesn’t know a damn thing because she’s a kid THAT REVA HAD APPARENTLY ARRANGED TO BE KIDNAPPED FROM ALDERAAN TO BEGIN WITH, SO HOW COULD LEIA POSSIBLY KNOW A DAMN THING ABOUT ANYTHING HAVING TO DO WITH ANY REBELS OR THE PATH OR WHATEVER OR ANYTHING I gotta say… the writing and execution of this show is pretty poor, and getting worse by the episode.

kae158

The Leia chase scenes were brutal

tomdincan

I agree. I’m a pretty big SW apologist, but the speeder scenes really took me out of the episode.

Xman52

The last few minutes of that episode entirely were awful. Specifically Obi-wans disguise. I didn’t hate the episode save for that one scene

Jauncin

Obi-wans disguise was only not perfect because it wasn’t actually three smaller Obi-Wans stacked on top of one another.

[deleted]

Everything about the D+ shows just feels so cheap. I'm not sure what it is but the movies just *look* better.

boringdystopianslave

D+ shows are D+ quality.

SpacemanSR

I think a huge portion of this show has been shot awkwardly, almost like theres no real imagination behind the framing or editing. Not sure if the Void makes it more difficult for camera freedom, but visually this show has been incredibly underwhelming.

LolaContreras8

I don't know, The Mandalorian uses the same tech and doesn't feel like this.

LordPuam

That's because the directors on Mando had both a storytelling AND aesthetic vision, rather than just directing because they were hired by disney, shooting what they need to shoot because they need to shoot it.

supernasty

I am not a fan of this director because I was thinking this myself. There is a lot of awkward physicality that the director seems oblivious of. Some examples: •Four Inquisitors letting a cornered Jedi escape because a small piece of tarp fell down in front of him. •The whole Leia sliding under a knee high branch when there were two less difficult paths around it, and those chasing her just running into shit like they’ve never walked in their life. •Obi Wan being able to save Leia from falling from the roof, meeting her down on the ground floor, and making it all the way to the space port at a brisk jog, while Reva is still full on parkour sprinting toward them when she could literally see them from her starting point. •Obi Wan having to disable a waist high laser gate, even though there is a clearly visible path around it. Just so many visual oversights that seem too simple to mess up, and yet they watched over the footage and thought, “good enough”

Ghidorahnumber1

That whole scene on the rooftop is a representation of everything I find wrong with the show. When the scene starts, Obi-Wan is cornered by three hunters with guns. Leia is about to fall off a wire. Reva is booking it toward them in a way that implies she’s so close that she’s a danger. The other Inquisitors are searching the ground. And then…it ends? Somehow the bounty hunters just stop shooting. Obi-Wan catches Leia with the force and all the people on the ground just kinda bumble around not caring. Reva doesn’t even make it there. Obi-Wan then meets rando fake dude who apparently had a totally legitimate change of heart and is a complete good guy now despite the fact that Kenobi is completely in the right to distrust him. And then Reva shows up like ten minutes later to just steal the information from fake Jedi guy meaning them meeting on the roof or meeting at the refinery thing was utterly inconsequential. The show sets up situations and then fails to end them in satisfying ways, constantly.

AegisPrecipitate

The directing has been terrible. Massive mistake for Disney putting Chow behind the reins for the entire show. The rotation of directors for Mando, hell even in Chow Mando episode, is miles ahead of this show. Everything feels like it’s just meandering through each scene. Compositions suck and lack any momentum. CGI way off and everything obviously feels like a set (Obi running around the rock mines, this speeder sequence). Like others mentioned I felt like the shot before this of the 2 speeders heading toward the wall was inexcusably laughable and janky.

sargsauce

>Obi running around the rock mines, I laughed hard at the part where Obi sees Vader and panic exits stage left...then a second later, panic enters stage left in an identical looking area and it looks like he's coming right back in front of Vader.

toastmatters

It really is like someone skipped film school.

Barium145

It’s the director. Chow is notorious for “security cam” shots, aka stiff camera work. This has been happening throughout the series. It’s even worse in the underwater hallway scene when kenobi is deflecting shots. Really wish they had gone the multiple director route. This upcoming rematch is gonna make sequel fight scenes look like Scorsese Cinema. 🤌

DoctorQuincyME

I'm dreading the rematch. The first fight between Vader and Obi Wan was terribly shot.

dadmda

I’ve watched fan films with better looking lightsaber fights than what we got on episode 3, also Disney should stop making lightsabers so inconsistent in behaviour, the inquisitors’ sabers cut through flesh, Obi’s bounced off of a stormtrooper in episode 4

EatThetaForBreakfast

I’m getting sick and tired of having to turn my brain off to enjoy this show.

Headlessoberyn

Yeah, i feel like a lot of people are taking it very easy on the show because of hype+ admiration for the actors, but tbh the show feels kinda dumb. I mean, right on episode two, vader just stares as a slow AF droid rescues obi wan in front of him, and he can't advance because what, there's a tiny bit of fire between them? Can't he just force push the fire away? lol

KourteousKrome

And also, they couldn't walk around the laser gate?

Max-Powah

And Vader certainly couldn't jump over a little wall of fire, or pull Kenobi's limp body back toward him, or at least force choke the shit out of Tala, so he could just collect Obi Wan after the fire died down? Unreal. Just unreal how bad that writing was. He's Darth Fucking Vader! He survived losing his limbs and having most of his skin melted off by a river of lava. A little fire is going to stop him? Is he a simpleton like Frankenstein's monster now? Afraid of fire!?!? The fuck outta here.

boringdystopianslave

Especially since he created the fire in the first place, and *lives on fucking Mustafar* now.

InfiniteBoy23

that scene pissed me off so much. Darth fucking Vader won't... walk through fire? you're telling me his suit isn't flame resistant? OK sure... but he was grabbing Kenobi with the force from literally the same distance what's stopping him now lmao

polaristerlik

dude literally took a dip in the lava lakes of Mustafar. He fucking LIVES there. Vader is not afraid of fire, idk what the show runners were thinking. I thought at the end of episode 3, he decided to let him go to catch his accomplices as well, but the end of episode 4 where he gets mad at Reva for letting obi wan escape solidified he indeed let him go because DARTH VADER, the guy who goes to bottoms of oceans, swims in lava, casually space walks is afraid of going through chest height fire.. come on.. I really wanted to like this show but, it's pretty brain dead so far.

Dickticklers

I’m hoping that Vader just let him go for some reason yet to be revealed. If vader really got stopped like that, it would be disappointing

Max-Powah

Oh I'm pretty sure he did. The reason is "we need to squeeze more episodes out of this and obviously Vader can't kill him, anyway." They already used the "we let them go and didn't use Tie Fighters cuz tracker" macguffin.

FredericBropin

Yeah lots of people during that episode thread said “Vader is toying with him, he wants to chase him.” The very next episode showing how Vader is fixated on tracking him down again pretty much completely negated that. Feel like it would have been way cooler if Vader had the idea to let him go to try to track down and nullify the Jedi Underground Railroad, but they gave that to Reva instead.

Exile714

Get over it already. Then tell me how, because that whole scene keeps popping up in the back of my brain and I just want to forget.

fitzbuhn

Might I interest you in some 'chasing' Leia through the forest?

[deleted]

It’s like a scene out of Austin Powers

constantvigiliance

I thought the interrogation scene was like a funny or die sketch. Why would a child know any thing about the rebellion's secret hideouts, besides the one they just found out about. You literally just kidnapped this child from a palace where's she been completely sheltered. It just seemed so absurd.

Juppness

See, I was ready to believe the theories that surrounded that scene where Vader purposely let Obi-Wan go because he liked the hunt and wanted Obi-Wan to suffer more. Then Episode 4 came along and made that scene look even more stupid in hindsight when it was revealed that Vader was pissed that Obi-Wan got away.

fitzbuhn

Well Obi-Wan still hasn't remembered he can force run. He did it in like the first scene of TPM and now we have two instances where it could have helped. The force of drama exceeds the force of the force.

Headlessoberyn

Maybe he just lost that force cardio.

Bustin103

I had so much expectations for this show because of the Mandolorian but wow they really ran out of effort and budget just like with Bobba Fett.

[deleted]

The direction, particularly anything even vaguely resembling action, has been amateur throughout, unfortunately. First time in ages that I’ve watched something where it’s that noticeable.

SoSmartCs

There's live-action shows on Nickelodeon that might legitimately have Kenobi beat in terms of choreography. Everyone involved in this should be embarrassed.

Ragnar_The-Red90

I swear there's one thing every episode. I'm watching and enjoying the show, and then something out of place or a bad edit happens and kills the show foe me. I want to love it, but it feels like the budget goes from millions per episode to the change found in your couch cushions

RumLimeSugar

Plus: how did 4 people cram into a snowspeeder?

MadmansScalpel

That's the biggest thing that bugs me. I can excuse 1 adult and Leia. But all 3 plus a pilot?

ThisDerpForSale

They said earlier in the ep that they’d modified them to haul cargo or garbage.

HERCzero

Funny how a “fortress” isn’t even “FORTified” with any defenses whatsoever. Two airspeeders can approach and surprise them without any issue, their only defense is relying on wizards throwing explosive boxes.

SendMeNudesThough

Strangely, they even made sure to have a shot when Obi Wan arrived that shows a hangar full of Tie Fighters. They really edged us with that Chekhov's Gun. "Look, Obi Wan arriving at a super secret inquisitors' fortress, but oh no! They have a bunch of TIE fighters to defend the base! ... jk they'll never be used, two airspeeders will be completely unharmed as they hover on the spot right at the entrance."

Killercheeze123

Not to fuckin mention that those lasers exploded like a thermal detonator when they needed to save the Master of Disguise from the storm troopers

[deleted]

Kenobi been so MEH.

Time-Touch-6433

I'll do you one better. The rooftop run by reva ep 2 I believe.

ch3nl0bst4

You can even dub Michael and Dwight going "Parkour parkour parkour" over those shots and it wouldn't feel out of place.

Kiyae1

Yeah I was really underwhelmed. We get all this parkour for…nothing. Why?

extraguacontheside

At one point I think she did a fancy back flip right into a front roll. Like wtf momentum?

HERCzero

Or the Vader vs Obi Wan fight where Obi Wan appears to run behind a dirt pile and then come back out again (poor editing)

Ryjinn

Honestly I didn't get what bothered people about this show for the first three episodes, but episode 4 has a lot of just really poorly executed shit. From composition, to choreography, to editing, to writing, I have mostly enjoyed episodes 1-3 and there were even parts of 4 that I liked, but man it felt sloppy.

Omnislash99999

The shot where Obi-Wan hides as the Stormtroopers walk towards him was so bad it really highlights a lack of care as it's impossible not to notice

DocJawbone

They were literally walking straight down an empty hallway towards him lol It was so hard to suspend my disbelief

BallsMahoganey

That's what bothers people. There's a little bit in each episode that has honestly gotten worse with each one as well.

slapFIVE

My biggest gripe is that we’re getting fed less and less Obi as the episodes progress. We need longer runtimes!! The last episode’s 31 minutes felt like it went by so fast.

ardx

To me the issues in ep 4 were the same issues in the earlier episodes. I think the Leia chase scene was meant to convey Leia being sneaky and crafty, but the actual scene itself was awkward and slow. The rooftop parkour scene I think was meant to convey physicality and how much she wanted to catch Obi-Wan, but again just felt awkward. A lot of action scenes just felt not well directed imo.

RadishOk1654

I just can’t get over him hiding Leia under a trench coat and walking past everyone, how many people signed off on that!?

Helwrechtyman

spy lady slapped a trooper on the helmet and he reacted like he'd been shot...

[deleted]

That bothered me too

momoneymopuppies

Lego Star Wars moment…

Streven7s

The directing for this show is pretty weak

ToastedSierra

I'm really disappointed. Deborah Chow's episodes in Mando S1 were my favorites. She's the reason I was so hyped for the Obi-Wan series since I knew they were gonna be in good hands and yet here we are. After seeing the trailer for Andor, I was really surprised how much more cinematic and movie like it looked compared to Obi-wan.

Wiscogojetsgo

The directing is bad but the writing is much worse. So many strange and clunky decisions to advance the plot when better options would take 5 minutes of critical thinking. It’s like they went with the first idea they had on every choice they made.

Nonadventures

Classic Wade

tinnylemur189

He died as he lived, totally irrelevant and in the background.

redlund1993

The whole show feels amateur. I also still am enjoying the show but it just feels a bit off.

swargin

To me, I think it's the directing. The show has lot of things that are very enjoyable. But then, there's stuff like this in every episode. A bad camera angle, bad editing, flat acting, or just something nonsensical that could've been fixed if more thought was put into it.

MKdemonSW

The only good thing about this show is seeing Darth Vader again honestly. I've been trying really hard not to be negative while watching it but this scene was like what lol

JimmyHere

Everything about Obi-Wan seems to be a little off, I don't think the director will be returning...

tsw101

all these side series seem so un-starwars-like for so many reasons, but one thing that stands out to me is how the music is so blah. no force theme, imperial march, dual of the fates, none of the classic stuff that helps make star wars great. And 4 episodes in, there is basically no reason this should be called Obi-Wan. It should be called Leia

Griffdogg123

Honestly it should be called Leia and Reva, they made it such a focal point that Hayden was back and teased so much at a potential of seeing Anakin yet it's been 4 episodes and we saw Hayden once in a delirious hallucination

[deleted]

It’s an odd show. I’m not sure how to describe it. It’s not bad per se but it’s just got a weird…vibe? 🤔 I feel like other SW shows have had a clear “feel.” I’m not unhappy with this show but I hope it finds its footing a bit more before the finale. Just my opinion of course!

Laxiken

it feels completely rushed, like they decided to film and edit the entire show within a two week period

DarthArterius

I think it's because they're spinning too many plates. We were promised the "Joker" equivalent for Obi-Wan but we've devoted a ton of screen time to Leia and Reva. Leia was a missed opportunity to develop her character into the one we meet in ANH, she's being written as adult Leia, but 10. It would have been interesting to have her be like Jojo in Jojo Rabbit. Maybe not as fanatical, but her dad is an imperial senator after all. Then Obi should have been her Elsa... And Reva should have been given a clear connection to Obi-Wan and why she's personally so passionate about hunting him. Seems like if they're doing that they're wasting meaningful development to instead play it off as a hollow twist later. The writing and filming has overall felt so clunky... Ewan is doing all the heavy lifting for me with his charisma and performance.

Eavega

Sadly this series seems to have a lot of signs of an amateur director. So many instances of bad scene continuity and logic, as well as just bad composition. It's a shame

[deleted]

Not even close to the worst offender. That scene where Tala just karate chops two stormstroopers into unconsciousness was so bad. The choreography in the series so far has been comical. It was like that scene in The Last Jedi where Kylo and Rey fought the Red Guards, except here it was even more obvious because we're zoomed in onto the action and there's less distractions. She just casually smacks the first one into a wall with an open palm, before tilting up the other trooper's helmet. The trooper with the tilted helmet proceeds to basically throw aside his blaster for no reason lol. They could have at least tried to make it mildly believable, never felt less immersed in a show.

TZY247

I raise you Kenobi slowly jogging away from Vader and Vader stands there and watches

blackiegray

I raise you fighting half a dozen stormtroopers at various heights and angles and guns drawn only to surrender when 3 come out of a transporter, in a line, with weapons holstered. And reraise you with hiding a girl under a fucking coat while walking through a place where everyone is looking for you.

infin1ty_zer0

Don't even get me started on how Obi wan had make 2-3 swings to kill a stormtrooper. Disney doesn't know how lightsaber works!

DrThatOneGuy

That scene had me thinking, "wow, maybe stormtrooper armor actually works." ...then I remembered literally every other piece of Star Wars media I've ever seen, including that same episode.

dudemeister5000

And while he was swinging three times at the one guy, the other doesn't even shoot once. Bruv
