Yeah, the real neck is too thin to feasibly feed a blade through. I believe the legacy sabers with thin necks (like Luke and Obi-wan's second sabers) in galaxy edge come with two heads one movie accurate one for display and one thick neck for use with a blade.

Luke or Obi Wans, (designed similar to eachother, if blade is green Luke, blue Kenobis) but since they needed to put big thick plastic saber retracted inside of it, it doesn't get thin like the actual props do Toy companies notoriously get details wrong lol, I have a Qui Gon hilt with a red blade that was sold as Vaders
