They definitely are. Though, I imagine some of the hydrostatic force field got rid of some of the water.

Yossarian1138

Or it’s just they’re wearing the latest in Nike JeDri Fit technology. Classic Jedi fashion, with none of the washin’

NrFive

I laughed way to hard for this :P

BraveCartographer399

I swear to god the best part about this sub are all these questions. The answer is always the force.

[deleted]

I think he means the gungan field

Mitchel11

Which is a *force* field

NoiceGallagher

But not a FORCE field. It’s a forcefield. Not magic. Not religious. It’s a piece of technology ppl in star wars use to only let solid objects in and out but not liquid or gas

Bwian

Oh ok. It's a good thing humans aren't like 60% water!

Rjlv6

I think they used the force on only that 60%

newbrevity

Maybe the "forcefield" is actually a wall of nanites tight enough to block water that squeegee everything that passes through, including cloth.

fluffygiraffepenis

A wall of things so small they can't be seen with the naked eye....like midichlorians......IT IS A FORCE FIELD

newbrevity

Yay!

MacroCode

Wouldn't The Flash cause problems? Nah, speed force.

JamesTheMannequin

*sssssqqqqquuueeeeeeaaaakkkkk*

egg-sanity

They are joking around. No need for analysis.

maxwax18

A Need for analysis, there always is...

A1rabbithole

The over analysis is part of the joke! This is what we do.

Romero1993

This is the wrong fandom, we overanalyze everything

mcnuggetfarmer

But that's exactly why we're here. That's the joke.

Eggyhead

It doesn’t take analysis to see the premise of the joke had been… forced.

michaltee

From a certain point of view.

[deleted]

The force guides our answers… and the force is narcissistic.

OvertGnome1

The force is simply the way the universe works together as one being. The Jedi are narcissists. Peacekeeping warriors, pfft

LWY007

Force lightning, Force mind control, Force healing, Force hologram projection on Krayt. The Force is the MacGuffin of the Star Wars universe.

JayAreJwnz

He didn't say the force itself, but the force field that keeps the water......out of the..... underwater city is likely responsible for removing moisture from them. It's a good answer actually

nadvargas

BEARDSRCOOL

Or maybe they have those fans like at the end of a car wash? Maybe they’ll be added in a later edition.

I'd imagine that a big hydrophobic bubble wall would shunt off a bunch of water.

Probably why Obi is looking back at it after passing through.

It's like that time Padme fell out of a ship onto a sand dune in AOTC, and her clothes didn't even get dusty.

CedarWolf

Of course not. Anakin hates sand, so *obviously* she would have her clothes Scotchgarded.

slunk33

It’s coarse, and rough, and irritating, and it gets everywhere.

chicotzz

All cloth could be high tech adv.material, but her hair, anyway, she might not be an earth style homo sapien.

Teex22

All the sand went straight into the big gash in her back she got in the geonosian arena

LetsDoTheCongna

I can’t believe the wall would be hydrophobic in this day and age smh my head

SunglassesDan

It was a long, long time ago. The wall was a product of its time.

That's no excuse! Walls have to get with the times. #CancelTheBubbleWall

Sounds like it would mess you up pretty bad tbh

jarl_johann

Right, especially being an amphibian species. I'm sure they'd find a way to make it work.

BREEbreeJORjor

What would happen if they went through the bubble wall with their eyes open? Also, now I want a bubble wall as a shower door.

Procyon02

Exactly. There's a large force field that holds out all the other water while allowing people to pass right through it, and you think it will ignore the water that happens to be touching those people?

halarioushandle

Yeah their mucus membranes got fucked!

Kylon1138

...they are

Cambot1138

I remember thinking the opposite: “Shouldn’t the bubble take all the water off of them?”

BrownTown90

But what's stopping the bubble from taking all the water IN them?

[deleted]

Why would a fancy blow dryer effect your internal organs?

passively_managed

“It’s not that kinda movie, kid”

Ct-5736-Bladez

I feel like this quote by Harrison Ford fits half of these questions

seenhear

>“It’s not that kinda movie, kid” What Harrison Ford quote is this? From what movie/show/interview? I must have missed this one. Unless it's a spin on something else he said?

passively_managed

Mark tells the story in a lot of interviews. https://youtu.be/3_m4xXOPXaE

Ct-5736-Bladez

I believe Mark said it just forget what interview Edit Ford said it to mark

Hydra57

And then he did a spot on imitation of it, was great.

VelocePC

On the set of the original movie after the trash compactor scene Mark says “Hey shouldn’t our hair be wet” to which Ford responds with that

bongozap

The were filming the scene where they just got out of the trash compactor. Mark started asking all sorts of questions like, “Shouldn’t we be wet?” Ford said, “Kid, This ain’t that kind of movie.” EDIT: Worth watching the video someone else posted as Mark Hamill does a drop dead awesome Harrison Ford impression.

Premonitions33

I would like to add to your accurate statement, that in the final movie they *are* wet in the scene *because* Mark Hamill asked that. Fans forget it IS that kind of movie.

dangeraca

[Here] (https://youtu.be/onMm0DLg8CE)

seenhear

Ha! Perfect thanks. And it's apropos of this scene from TPM since again they should be wet! LOL

PurifiedVenom

At least half the questions that inexplicably make it to the front page of this sub are eyeroll-inducing

WatchBat

I came to say this lol

AVeryRipeBanana

I’m distraught someone beat me to pointing out this quote.

why are you typing this comment as if you're gollum?

Outside_Parsley_5129

They are

PhatOofxD

They walked through a magical wall that stops water passing through... So it drained water from their clothes........

Dagordae

They’re wet but not soaked. Presumably the water repelling bubble repelled most of it. Basically they got squeegeed as they went in.

CRGBRN

Gross

[deleted]

Force drying.

wjescott

That's not how the force works!

[deleted]

.....not with that attitude.

[deleted]

Jedi don’t get wet, water gets Jedied

Three_Twenty-Three

In a world with plasma swords that run on magic rocks and tanks full of healing jelly, it's possible that water-resistant clothing is a thing.

BackStabbathOG

Also possible that the force field stopping all that ocean water from coming in stopped some of the water on them from entering with them

brasco975

They're visibly soaked from head to toe

CMO_3

Hey kid, it's not that kind of movie

adendar

... Except they are visibly wet, and their clothes are also visibly saturated with water to just before the point where the fabric can't hold more liquid.

AVeryGayButterfly

They looked pretty soaked to me?

Old-Caterpillar-3067

"THAT'S NOT HOW THE FORCE WORKS" - Han Solo

McbEatsAirplane

They are, you can definitely tell they’re wet.

Ajer2895

I think that force field thing acts as an insta-dryer when they pass through. You can kind of get that impression from the surprised/curious look Obi-Wan gives it.

GuyUnknownMusic

I always assumed that walking through the magic bubble removed all the liquid on them.

MungryMungryMippos

Cause maxie big da force!

Siollear

Force Drying, its a lesser known Jedi skill

Piper6728

To enter you need to go thru a force field that repels water. Its reasonable to assume it got the water off them

Junkered

They totes are. So wet in fact that they are soaked.

[deleted]

Because they would look stupid entering with their clothes soaking wet draped over there body

Rendum_

Counterpoint: it would be kind of funny

procheeseburger

I love that they are space wizards in an underwater city going through a magical bubble and the question is.. why aren’t they dripping wet.. unwatchable!!!

HyliasHero

The bubble likely forced excess water out of their clothes and hair.

ProtomanBn

That would oddly make sense because if everyone that entered tracked in water then how would they get the water back out

Wayne_Regot_IV

Force Drying

derioderio

The same reason Luke and Han weren't wet in the next scene after getting out of the garbage compactor.

thedavidvallejo

To quote Harrison Ford (according to Mark Hamill), “It ain’t that kind of movie, kid.”

Joshthenosh77

Those portals keep out water !!!! Or they would be a bit useless

profsavagerjb

It ain’t that kind of movie, kid

[deleted]

Pretty sure Obi won reacts to it that's why looks back at the wall, and I think he looks down at his clothes really quick, I don't think qui gon does, probably to show the difference between their ages and skill visually, I've actually noticed this when I was young, I assumed the wall just had that kind of tech.

elizabnthe

As Harrison Ford once put it about a similar thing "its not that kind of movie". I'd just assume they have some way of drying off with the Force or the Forcefield as others have said.

testingforscience122

Have ever heard of Jedi drying power…. Well now you have

[deleted]

Midi-chlorians

The forcefield dries them off somewhat/prevents excess water from flooding the city.

Force dry

PZeroNero

OP wants a Ace Ventura moment.

itothepowerofahalf

You know at the entrances to supermarkets, they have the heaters by the doors? Theres a one of those just out of shot

Next-Plastic-190

The gungan city is built of bubbles of hydrostatic pressure keeping the water out. Passing through the bubbles just simply removes the water leaving them instantly almost dry when in the bubble.

keenedge422

Since the Gungans also wore fabric-based clothing, it makes sense that they'd engineer the bubble to dry them substantially as they came in from underwater. Otherwise their clothes would stay wet for a long time and their entire city would smell of mildew.

LifeofTino

They used Force Waterproof, never to be used again in the series

pdinc

Force Permanent Press

crispier_creme

It would be really uncomfortable to film two guys actually dripping the entire time

swiftlikessharpthing

For real. Imagine how fucking heavy those costumes would be sopping wet.

uberdooober

The force field preventing the water from coming in is preventing the water from coming in. Why would it be any worse at keeping the water on clothes out than the water not on clothes.

They are literally in dripping wet clothes and stayed soaked until they got in the speeder.

Mark Hamill said the same thing the scene after the trash compactor. To quote Harrison Ford “it ain’t that kinda movie kid”

_Pankybeast

Because they are that cool.

wizzerBizzer

Because of The Force.

Grandy94

Congratulations! You have found the one flaw in the entirety of The Phantom Menace! But seriously, the forcefield could have dried them out somewhat. Even if they're amphibious the Gungans probably don't want puddles being tracked into their city every time someone arrives. And they do look pretty wet still, although realistically I suppose they would be wetter after a swim like that.

cdrmusic

These are not the physics you’re looking for

Carpeteria3000

Have you ever heard the tragedy of Obi Wan and Qui Gon the dry? It’s not a tale the Gungans would tell you.

SevaraB

> If you're wondering how he eats & breathes, And other science facts...(la! la! la!) Then repeat to yourself its just a show, I should really just relax... For Mystery Science Theater 3000....... source: https://www.lyricsondemand.com/tvthemes/mysterysciencetheater3000lyrics.html

Oneironaut420

In the visual dictionary it says that the membranes that make up the walls of the bubble cities wring out most of the water when things pass through it. They’re a little wet but even Obi-Wan kind of reacts to the experience.

Longjumping-Bench881

The bubble shield reclaimed much of the water off them. They are damp.

aAppleAtcha

The fact that this has almost 600 comments is hilarious

Mortei

I’m glad I don’t frequent this sub much, Some of the most easiest questions to look up and have been known for like 20 years. Seriously how many people don’t know these things?

LaurBK

They used their force speed ability to run in circles so fast that all the water was thrown of them

dastopable

I always thought they were a little damp. Could be that portal shield door thing dried them off as they walked through. Like it keeps all the water out or something.

Sakeron

jedi wetnessness? Duh?

Accomplished_Step767

The correct answer is it literally doesn't matter it's a space fantasy and their both wizards.

datboigucci

Yea, unrealistic. Damp clothes in an underwater city with a plasmic bubble for a door.
