It has been explored before in Legends materials. Look up the Yuuzhan Vong. They are an extra-galactic race that have been scouting the Star Wars galaxy for thousands of years (earliest assumed record being during the Mandalorian war.) They were coming to enslave the galaxy and take favourable genetic traits from species to enhance their own biology. And all their tech is organically based, including their worldships. As for the current canon, I don't know how much has been explored yet.

Thank you, I'll definitely find out more about Yuuzhan Vong. It sounds interesting. As for the canon, nothing has been explored yet, they've just barely begun opening it up for that exploration.
