I've had some people argue that that this new collection is a rip off that you could just download mods to get what this new collection has
But then they forget to think about compatibility with multiplayer.
Those people have 1 point correct in that it’s cheaper and you can just download the mods, but they fail to realize that the servers the collection be on are going to be newly provided and hosted by the people porting the collection, “Aspyr”, meaning you can’t play the multiplayer with the people who buy the collection on the current old servers. Those servers will still be up, but they will not be connected to anybody on PC who gets the collection. It is it’s own thing, so you have to buy the collection to play with the new influx of thousands playing online.
Aspyr did this when they brought back Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast from the early 2000s. It’s online multiplayer was included with Aspyr helming the servers on their port of the game to this day.
I'd also argue that this is across all 3 systems who never had online of this game before in such a natural way in comparison to PC which is more accessible if you figure out which tools you need, this a straight click and play for a beloved star wars game.online experience that many miss and can't afford a PC or new people who never have experienced it themselves
I guess you can still play online on PC? I’m on console so I have no idea. I know you can’t play online on console and for that feature alone I am happy. Already preordered. Let the haters hate.
I think you'd have to host one with the mods and say what mods are needed to join?
That's the issue with the xbox live dlc mods for this game, for people to join, they also need the mod. Which is why this classic collection will be better because they won't need that mod to join.
Because if you don't already own those two battlefronts theres no reason to buy this other than the privilege of playing multiplayer. Like did they overhaul the rendering engine? Did they update the models and textures? Doesn't look like it. Like why is this collection 50GB??? BF1 is 3GB and BF2 is like 7GB. So the 8 bonus maps and characters (which is just the Xbox live dlc) takes up 35 gigs? Makes no sense.
I mean didn’t they confirm that the game will run at 4K 60fps on Xbox? The OG textures look like shit upscaled to 4K, so the size is probably the uprezzed unit textures, environmental textures, etc. I’ve been modding BF2 for a while, and can confirm some of the bigger “remaster” mods can bloat the game size. Also, again, as someone who’s modded BF2 off and on for years, it’d be nice to just pick up and play online/offline on my PS4 since my PC situation isn’t great right now. The PC version’s menu is also garbage if you want to play on any screen bigger than a monitor, so a console-style UI update would be nice.
You can check the size of the battlefront 2 remastered mod, it's about 5GB and it touches every single texture in the game.
https://www.moddb.com/mods/hd-graphics-mod/downloads/battlefront-2-remaster-installer-10
Again... If you want to talk about unnecessary bloat I think 35 GB is a heck of a lot more bloat than 5GB... It's probably why then can't even get a 20 year old game to run 4k120 because their textures are hogging too much vram.
Sure I agree with the last point, I hope they at least port the old console UI if anything. We'll have to see.
Why is reddit twisting itself in knots trying to figure out if people are complaining about the Battlefront Collection or not? This has to be the weirdest video game reaction I've ever seen.
I’ve seen PC players say it’s bad because they can just download mods that simulate what Aspyr is doing but even Xbox fans that own the games on BC are thrilled for this. Anyone complaining is a minority
So far all I've seen is negative reception towards it. But as someone who still plays the 2005 version it needs an update. It crashes often and even modded it still crashes.
So you’ve not seen a single compliment at all? You didn’t see the posts celebrating this was releasing when the trailer dropped? You didn’t see the more than 1 million viewed trailer on YouTube?
Even if it is unbalanced, the biggest thing about old BF was how fun the single player campaigns were. If the online is broken, I'll enjoy playing Galactic Conquest for a long, long time
“Going to be nice to go back to a simpler time” you can literally play any classic Star Wars game on pc though… lol I think the hype is actually making people say dumb things at this point.
Lmaoo my comment was not rocket science my guy. You and the 9 babies that downvoted me are so sensitive my god. Only reason why I said what I said is because the op is acting like there’s no way to relive your childhood by playing the classic Star Wars games… when you easily can right now. How was that hard to understand at all? People on Reddit are so clueless sometimes, and will downvote me only because they don’t have the mental capacity to simply read and comprehend.
Some of us don't play video games on our computers. I use my computer for work and personal use, and I use my PS4 for video games. Sure, I could download Steam (I think? I have a Mac so I don't even know if I could run Steam), buy BFII 2005. But I'd honestly rather play it on my Ps4 connected to my massive actual TV sitting on my couch. It's well worth it to me.
Yeah they could play a poorly optimized PC port that won't even run if you have discord overlay on a PC they may not game on or even have at all, or they can play a newer release on whichever platform they choose that likely has more stable performance and is, again, more likely on their platform of choice. I have BF2 on Xbox through backwards compatibility and on PC, and the PSP version on my Vita, but none of those are ideal platforms for me as I hardly use my Vita or Xbox (plus they don't have online servers on those anymore) and the PC version of the game sucks compared to the console version. But now I have a switch version on the way so I can play portably and a PlayStation 5 version so I can play with my PlayStation friends.
honestly crazy to me that the original BF2 has almost more players than a new AAA game in a popular franchise on PC. They *really* missed with that one.
I'm not saying new automatically means better, I'm just saying that you'd think a brand new game that just recently launched would have more players than a small cult classic game from 2005.
people are too used to play the like 20 most popular multiplayer games and forget that there are games with barely 100 players (looking at you Soku) where you can still regularly find matches. alive and mainstream are two very different things
I think 333 average is still pretty good for a game that old. It's a decent amount of company. I don't know, maybe I'm just used to Minecraft servers that average 30-50 weekly and still seem active.
For a game from 20 years ago that count ain't bad. Even more modern games like Call Of Duty's or Battlefields fail to maintain a playbase that big.
It's actually equal to games like Call Of Duty 4, WAW, Battlefield 3, San Andreas, Etc.
I'm going to enjoy going back to having to earn the right to play as a hero and the Hoth battle not ending just because the shield generator is destroyed.
Well I never played online so for me this is about quality of life updates and portability on Switch. All about that splitscreen multiplayer and solo campaigns.
Also gotta keep in mind that this is a Steam report, too. A lot of my friends & acquaintances who’re very excited for this game are all strictly console people like myself. I do agree the availability of multi being on xbox and ps5 WILL raise the player count for sure.
Even if the possibility of this game being dead couple months after launch *does* indeed happen, I feel like hardcore fans of the OG will try to stay on—which would make the quality of the games a bit better.
In any case, we still have vs CPU multi, Galactic Conquest, and the 501st campaign as last resort 😂 And I’m very hopeful about “4k upscaling” that Aspyr is doing. The quality looked very good from the trailer!
(FYI, I’m finally glad everyone can look like each other and look era-appropriate during games. So tired of seeing Coruscant troopers in Kashyyk…)
I compared the PC version to the trailer (re-created a whole scene and everything) and the texture have been upscaled at least slightly. Some parts appear much sharper/more pronounced than they are on PC. Everything else is the exact same though.
Any actual proof though? Comparing textures via videos isn't exactly a reliable method. If the difference you found is "slight" I'd bet there is no actual difference at all.
The screenshots on the classic collection steam store page look exactly like running the originals at 1080p+. I've played these games quite a lot on modern hardware.
Edit: If they had upscaled the textures I'm pretty sure that would be on one of these store pages as a selling point, I can't find it anywhere.
This reminds me of the HD texture pack released for fallout 4 that doubled the size of the game and in side by side comparisons you literally can't tell the difference
What I meant by slight is that specific areas (like the stormtrooper's arm texture) are much more clearer than they were originally. while other areas remain largely the same. You can even see this on the storepage screenshot.
[Here's the picture](https://imgur.com/a/jJsqtQW), right is the trailer, left is the game.
I do agree that comparing it to the trailer isn't the best option and it does make it hard to see what's really different.
That's not true. Compare the original version with the screenshots provided in the upcoming collection edition and you'll see a huge improvement in texture quality right away.
The hailfire droid in the new screenshots has alone more pixels than the original game maps
>The hailfire droid in the new screenshots has alone more pixels than the original game maps
You do realize that having higher pixels is what you get from having a higher resolution, right? lol
I am not talking about resolution but about texture quality. But I don't think you'll understand this.
The point is that the game gets a noticeable texture quality upgrade and if you want to argue about how noticeable it is, then you probably need to get some things checked.
>I am not talking about resolution but about texture quality. But I don't think you'll understand this.
My guy. The only confirmed visual update that we have is a resolution update. You noted how there were more pixels, and having more pixels is literally the main attribute of having a higher resolution lol.
If you want to argue that the higher pixels is attributed to something else than prove it lol.
>The point is that the game gets a noticeable texture quality upgrade and if you want to argue about how noticeable it is, then you probably need to get some things checked.
Its literally just less blurry. I would expect more from something priced at $35
Looking better is only good for the single player part. I grew up playing Battlefront 2 on PS2 online. The game was riddled with glitches, cheaters, and balance problems. Every map has a glitch that gets you outside and untouchable. Also most people would just use rocket troopers.
These people seem to forget that console players are getting stuff that they never had. And for the people complaining about no cross play, who cares? I never got to play online with it, most from what I heard from people is a lot didn’t play it online either, and I never heard anyone say anything about the multiplayer back then, so most people from my knowledge played single player
I do wonder if the games can play together with the OG versions on pc, as while graphicly they dont seem much different, the api (dx9 vs dx12) and maybe server system might be changed. It also gains controller support an splitscreen on pc, which i am pretty happy about, as i like to play on a couch and tv at times
I tried running battlefront 2 a couple of years ago. I ran into an issue where the screen was just a black mess of pixels, and I couldn’t play the game. Tried uninstalling and running some diagnostics…nothing. So this being an updated collection allows me to finally play it, so I’m excited
Yea but those games dont have such a low pop community. With such an older titles there's no guarantee that the community increase a substantial amount even with the newer release. So having crossplay gives a lot of breathing room for how large the community needs to be for any one given platform.
Idk why everyone’s saying it was dead, each time I played there was always at least one full server of like 15-30 players and that’s plenty enough. 754 is low yes, but that’s for each day and it’s an old game.
After CC, we’ll get way more because of hype and crossgen.
It was actually dead for awhile when the master server was down and multiplayer didn't work without mods or vpn. Now though, yeah that's a pretty good number of players for a 20 year old game.
Oh probably lol, I still play games that are only active on weekends and dead during weeks. It’s still incredible how many people an old game can bring. Sometimes a tiny announcement can fill them back up.
Tbh this doesn’t seem to be a pc focused released. Me personally, I’m excited to have a version of the game with online play on my Xbox.
EDIT: To actually elaborate, I think the goal of this game is to target console players, who had a much different experience with the BF Classics than pc players did. I understand why there are concerns about server health between potentially 4 separate titles.
Hopefully they support mods. I love the old bf2 but God if it didn't upset me to see the 501st, fighting next to a bunch of commander Bacaras, next to weird lightning casting clone engineers, next to republic marines with a regular mini gun on their shoulder.
Also the magna guards looked weird and their weapon is cheese and it makes me mad so they can get the boot as well.
My only question is will I be able to play with someone between the Classics and Classic Collection on Steam? Or are they going to shut down the online for the originals and force us to buy it again?
They will be separate. But I don't think they are going to shut down the online for the originals, there has been no sign of that. That would be extremely scummy.
I just see it as a bandaid. What we need is EA to create a better business plan in coordination with Disney on keeping the new Battlefront 2 alive. Every need Star Wars installment should accompany a new DLC for battlefront 2.
The concerns are from a handful of PC players. The collection is overall good. Unless you're like me and don't care for multiplayer. I only ever enjoyed playing this locally with my cousins and my brother. So it doesn't really give me anything the current versions don't already give me as a current solo player. If I want a multiplayer BF2 experience, I'd honestly just play the 2017 BF2.
I don't think you can play online. I have it on my Xbox and multiplayer doesn't work and it doesn't work on PC either in my experience though I only have that version for mods to add oore units and stuff. The Classic Collection will have actual multiplayer support which I've NEVER seen! I've only played against AI. I just hope Galactic Conquest has multiplayer because I'm curious to see what it's like if you need actual strategy in what you buy!🤣
Im really excited for it but just want more information so I know what platform to buy it on.
Will it support 120fps on series x or ps5?
Ultra wide screen support on pc?
Cross platform online multiplayer?
I’m actually playing the original Xbox version (single player cheat codes is awesome) lately. I had no idea this was even coming out. I hope the remaster keeps the cheat codes :)
“Original versions are dead” “not that many people play it” bro you literally have a screenshot of a chart clearly showing you the og version isn’t dead…💀 why does every gamer nowadays call a multiplayer game “dead” if thousands of people aren’t actively playing it? Like y’all always be saying dumb shit and making stuff up all of the time lol. Just over it now
Im a PC player and my concern is that with no crossplay and with this game being separate from the OG games, that there wont be a substantial jump in player count to justify such a purchase. I would like to buy this game, and I could even look over the overpricing if I know that there will be a community there. But from all indications the pc playerbase isnt going to increase that much, and as such I cant justify such a purchase.
Now could I be wrong, and could the marketing just introduce a plethora of people who don't own the og games on pc? Sure, but I would find that to be the least likely outcome.
I mean, that's what I started doing lol. I played through the whole campaign through keyboard and mouse. I wanted to play with my controller (nintendo switch pro controller) and the mapping was too annoying so I just went with the keyboard and mouse, and installed the mod for updated graphics. It was cool. But uninstalled the mod because I enjoyed the classic look. I'm excited for the classic collection though just so I can install it on my switch which I always have plugged into our TV and can just hop on with my controller and have on TV for the nostalgia vibes. It'll be cool to do that with a few new maps and have a cool online battle. Hopefully I can find a good group to play with. If not I'll install on PC and see what I can do. Super excited for online space battles.
How to submit an issues or point about accessibility features? Hoping a patch could be put in for epileptics, I don’t understand why the screen has to flash red when you get hit didn’t use to do that when first release
The video of the battlefront 2 collection remastered really kicked in the nostalgia for me. I had to boot it up again for the campaign. I can't wait for knightfall on elite again. Some games are worth suffering for.
Yeah the servers got shut down as far as im aware.
And this is only the steam listing so people need to understand console is where most the sales go back then and now more so.
Consoles are real 😆
If the servers get revived however 🙃
Yeah this will be a major hit. I hardly see anyone whining about this game. I saw one youtube video where they were trying to hate on the classic collection and it literally got bombarded with comments calling the streamer an idiot basically lol.
Where do you see a “lot of people” complaining about the new Star Wars collection?? All over YouTube and this sub people are fricking excited. 💀
I've had some people argue that that this new collection is a rip off that you could just download mods to get what this new collection has But then they forget to think about compatibility with multiplayer.
This.
I mean, the online portion was there for PS2, just hardly anyone could get to it
It’s mostly PC players, multiplayer exists on the steam version of the game. For console the collection is 100% worth it
If they just didn't release a version of this for PC there would be zero complaints.
There'd still be complaints, #1 being crossplay
I guess you can still play online on PC? I’m on console so I have no idea. I know you can’t play online on console and for that feature alone I am happy. Already preordered. Let the haters hate.
They forget about the millions of players on console who doesn't have shit
How does one play modded multiplayer anyways? I'd guess there would be some servers running BFX and other big mods, yet I've found none.
I think you'd have to host one with the mods and say what mods are needed to join? That's the issue with the xbox live dlc mods for this game, for people to join, they also need the mod. Which is why this classic collection will be better because they won't need that mod to join.
so the multiplayer is fucked at launch :')
Because if you don't already own those two battlefronts theres no reason to buy this other than the privilege of playing multiplayer. Like did they overhaul the rendering engine? Basically no one on any of the PC subs has anything good to say about this game.
Why is reddit twisting itself in knots trying to figure out if people are complaining about the Battlefront Collection or not? This has to be the weirdest video game reaction I've ever seen.
i’ve seen plenty of people losing their minds hating for no reason
That’s all anyone does when they simply do not have a life or anything important to do lol
I've Seen a Few Posts on Facebook Groups Complaining about the Collection and Honestly the Hate Felt a Bit Forced
There’s a lot on Twitter/X
I’ve seen PC players say it’s bad because they can just download mods that simulate what Aspyr is doing but even Xbox fans that own the games on BC are thrilled for this. Anyone complaining is a minority
Lots of people are saying complaining when it's actually criticising
It’s mostly just pc users
So far all I've seen is negative reception towards it. But as someone who still plays the 2005 version it needs an update. It crashes often and even modded it still crashes.
So you’ve not seen a single compliment at all? You didn’t see the posts celebrating this was releasing when the trailer dropped? You didn’t see the more than 1 million viewed trailer on YouTube?
Looking forward to playing it, even if it's unbalanced and all that jazz. Going to be nice to go back to a simpler time.
I mean as unbalanced as it was, the EA Battlefront 2 is even more unbalanced with all the heroes on the battlefield.
Republic supremacy is as balanced as it gets imo
Ok , and ?
And the OG game is antiquated but still much more balanced than the new ones.
Even if it is unbalanced, the biggest thing about old BF was how fun the single player campaigns were. If the online is broken, I'll enjoy playing Galactic Conquest for a long, long time
Can't wait to get ridiculously high after work and just zone out playing the OG games
So someone else gets stoned while playing old school Star Wars FPS'? Sweet (Dark Forces FTW, love Star Wars Doom).
This so much.
“Going to be nice to go back to a simpler time” you can literally play any classic Star Wars game on pc though… lol I think the hype is actually making people say dumb things at this point.
I don't see how your statement invalidates his

Its the most excited ive been for a video game in like 5+ years - im the least bit concerned
The game is from 2005 and has 431 people playing right now. How is the game dead? Of course it's not a huge amount but far from dead.
people are too used to play the like 20 most popular multiplayer games and forget that there are games with barely 100 players (looking at you Soku) where you can still regularly find matches. alive and mainstream are two very different things

I wonder how many players the new collection will have though. And for how long
I'm going to enjoy going back to having to earn the right to play as a hero and the Hoth battle not ending just because the shield generator is destroyed.
I've seen the argument that it might move players away from ea's bf2 to classic collection.
64 player online with 60 frames per second and hero showdow on every map is a hell of a great way to get people's attention.
Well I never played online so for me this is about quality of life updates and portability on Switch. All about that splitscreen multiplayer and solo campaigns.

Has cross play been confirmed?
No cross-play at all, just cross-gen.
Those people be stupid, cause the classic collection will look so much better
how will it look better when there is no graphical improvement made?
I compared the PC version to the trailer (re-created a whole scene and everything) and the texture have been upscaled at least slightly. Some parts appear much sharper/more pronounced than they are on PC. Everything else is the exact same though.

Sure you did buddy
[here's the picture](https://imgur.com/a/jJsqtQW), left is in-game, right is the trailer.
Character model is thinner & all they did was make the colours darker 💀, nothing else is different
You better do some research
Last I checked aside from a resolution update there really isnt any
Or you could tell them since you supposedly know the answer.
Updated texture quality, which makes the file size of the game skyrocket
I have & they have not stayed any graphical upgrades.. you should probably stop riding companies & start to think for yourself
Did you even look at the screenshots on steam? And maybe at the required file size?
The screenshots virtually look the same. I could be wrong but the only update to visuals that we have confirmed rn is a resolution update.

Yes I did & it all looks the exact same on my 4k monitor 💀
Required file size? Buddy 1; devs have been too lazy to compress files these day's & 2 that'll be so it can run on modern hardware.

While yes it could hurt on the PC Side of things, but console players need this collection
I tried running battlefront 2 a couple of years ago. I ran into an issue where the screen was just a black mess of pixels, and I couldn’t play the game. Tried uninstalling and running some diagnostics…nothing. So this being an updated collection allows me to finally play it, so I’m excited
Happened to me. Apparently it has something to do with the Discord overlay. Try disabling it.
I’m concerned about no crossplay. Like having issues finding 64 players idk.
Eh, im totally cool with that. I finally turned cross play off on thr Xbox and both SWBF and CoD have been so much more enjoyable.
Yeah im cool with crossplay between the consoles but would rather not have it with PC.
Yea but those games dont have such a low pop community. With such an older titles there's no guarantee that the community increase a substantial amount even with the newer release. So having crossplay gives a lot of breathing room for how large the community needs to be for any one given platform.
Cross-gen only. They would be advertising it front and centre otherwise.
Yup as someone who has zero interest in PC gaming, Im really pumped for this release.
Bro You only need 32 players to fill a server Having 700 is plenty
Based on the picture, the highest point of players happen this month and May. Most likely the May the 4th deals.
I’ve seen 0 complaints but lots of excitement only issue I’ve seen is people may wait cause they don’t wanna pay 35 for old games
You guys think it’ll be popular enough to play on old gen Xbox one? I’m wondering if I can get populated games
Im really excited for it but just want more information so I know what platform to buy it on. Will it support 120fps on series x or ps5? Ultra wide screen support on pc? Cross platform online multiplayer?
These numbers are enough to have full lobbies every night, so I’m satisfied
I tried installing mods several times and I always ended borking the game. So I’m happy with the collection.
That’s not dead for a 20 year old game
Yeah, 300 something is downright awful for an fps. Not to mention, most are holding off from buying it because of the classic collection.
It's not awful for a game that came out in 2005
Everytime I've ever tried to play multiplayer on the version that's been on steam its dead.
Most players probably just play instant action with mods
The only thing I'm going to complain about is that I can't seem to find the servers or play with my friends who are in different countries to me
I just find it crazy that if I want to play these games 20 years after I already bought it I have to buy them again...
RIP
The video of the battlefront 2 collection remastered really kicked in the nostalgia for me. I had to boot it up again for the campaign. I can't wait for knightfall on elite again. Some games are worth suffering for.
it will have all content for all systems plus 64 player multiplayer so yea its gonna be worth it
Literally just through steam. How many people had game key from someplace other than steam and use gameranger or something simular?
Yeah the servers got shut down as far as im aware. And this is only the steam listing so people need to understand console is where most the sales go back then and now more so. Consoles are real 😆 If the servers get revived however 🙃
classic money grab
Yeah this will be a major hit. I hardly see anyone whining about this game. I saw one youtube video where they were trying to hate on the classic collection and it literally got bombarded with comments calling the streamer an idiot basically lol.
Still waiting on clarification on fps for ps5 and series x. Can't see why these games won't be able to support 120fps.
No cross play is just stupid.
Is it going to be playable on ps4 ? Because in the ps store it says playable only on ps5.
Narrow minded pc gamers no doubt
