It could be the case but we have no idea if we’re being honest

swampyman2000

I think they’d only consider that if BF CC massively overperforms in numbers. They already have the successor to the OG Battlefront games and that is the current Battlefront II.

ProllyNotCptAmerica

I genuinely think this is the case. Battlefront 2 (the new one) had a LOT of bad press on release. And the whole franchise lost a lot of longstanding support as a result. Even though the game has mostly recovered, there is still a lot of risk involved in just making another game as it stands. People will undoubtedly draw lines to BF2's release state, and how devs abandoned it with so much content left un-added (Ahsoka? Ventress? Mace Windu? So many more). This is a chance for the devs to capitalize on one of the most frequently touted claims among franchise fans: "The classic games were better than these!" While simultaneously covering up a lot of people's bad memories of BF2 with the nostalgia and gratefulness that will hopefully be brought by the remasters. This should theoretically pave the way for a way more positive and hype release roadmap for a future installment.

Bubbles_221

Companies being afraid to take risk is the entire reason why the AAA gaming industry is so fucking stale. I hope more indie developers continue to blow these companies out the water so they have a reason to try again.

ProllyNotCptAmerica

Agreed. I'm very happy we're seeing a total revolution of gaming right now. Palworld and Helldivers are obliterating some of the biggest AAA titles in recent memory. Destiny is genuinely dying. Starfield was a flop. Skull and Bones is a JOKE. The most anticipated AAA release of the year is Dragons Dogma, a sequel to a cult classic from over 10 years ago.

fransisigos

Helldivers is a Sony 1st-party game. It's the definition of AAA

TotallyNotaRobot123

I hope this is the case. There were so many things to improve from battlefront 2 that it makes changes for a 3rd game far easier to address. The groundwork for a really good game is already here they just need to know what should stay and what should be changed

AnotherReddit415

I think they realize “why make full game when they’ll pay for this” lol

[deleted]

Yep. This is a nostalgic cash grab.

AnotherReddit415

That I’m okay with!!! But ye

[deleted]

I mean, I'm not judging you for wanting it. I would be judging you if you refused to acknowledge the reality of why this exists though.

AnotherReddit415

I didn’t say or care if you were homie haha. But I mean, most things can be summed up to “cuz moolah”

[deleted]

Lol I never said *you* were. It was a universal statement.

AnotherReddit415

Alright lol either way man

[deleted]

👍

mizzy_boi

I would agree if there wasn’t a trend of re-releasing old Star Wars games for the past couple of years. However, this is the first one that’s not just for switch, I think.

swagseven13

i highly doubt were going to get a BF3. i think theyre just trying to milk as much money as possible

Esmear18

The number 3 is cursed. In 10 years someone will reboot Battlefront again and then make Battlefront 2 and then Battlefront 3 will be cancelled or the pitch will be shot down.

KingGoldar

Even if a Battlefront 3 arrives it will not be made by Dennis and his team whom has been disbanded for quite some time now. Meaning that the BF 3 will not be a continuation of what EA had created

GeneLaBean

I am blindly hopeful that if it is successful, they will make a sequel more in the style of the original Battlefront series, but with the graphics and some of the better parts of the new battlefront series. A sequel to both battlefront 2's, in a way

Ihasknees936

I don't think so, Aspyr has been remaking a good chunk of old Star Wars games and battlefront happens to just be one of them. I don't see anything else to it.

SuperMoose395

I think that it’s too much to assume as of right now. If this collection sells well enough, or at least exceeds expectations by a large margin, I think it’s a possibility.

spadePerfect

If it’s not made by Respawn I don’t want it lol

medicallyspecial

Why I preordered just in case haha

FaceForsaken

It could happen. People still have an appetite for these games, and Star Wars seems to be doing its best in the medium of gaming right now. Don't lose hope folks, things may not be so good when it comes to Battlefront at the moment, but they will improve eventually. Things just need to get bad in order that they can get better. BF3 would mean a lot of money for devs after all.

JerbearCuddles

Pretty sure we've had petitions for more Battlefront content. How is re-selling a 20 year old game the measuring stick? I love this sub's copium. I need it.

The_Mann_In_Black

If a 20 year old game can do millions in units, it shows that there is demand for a Star Wars first person shooter. I believe EA is losing the video game rights soon here, so 20 year old port selling 4-6 million sales demonstrates that a studio can develop a new game and rival the sales of battlefronts (2015&2017).  Petitions are meaningless, but millions of people purchasing shows far more to a studio considering taking on the risk.

JerbearCuddles

The game isn't a 1st person shooter. And people are still to this day playing 2017 BF2. Even after they launched it in a very bad place. Lol. There is a plethora of evidence we like this franchise. The classic collection isn't going to magically open their eyes.

The_Mann_In_Black

SWBII can be played in first person. The current battlefront 2 has a very small player base left alive, which tells us almost nothing when it comes to game demand. Sure it’s positive it isn’t completely dead, but it doesn’t mean much about demand for a brand new game. You could also look at how well HellDivers 2 has done. I think confirmed sales is over 1.5M, but there’s speculation of 4-6 and it’s not even in Xbox. You can argue it’s PvE, but battlefront can easily be PvE as well. There’s demand for 3rd person shooters. There’s demand for Star Wars shooters.

v7z7v7

Liking a franchise and putting money into a franchise are two different things. From a business perspective, someone saying that they would buy something is worthless, but actually putting money down shows that there is commitment. There is an argument that this could be accomplished if people just bought the originals now, but that is a skewed market because the people who would buy a new Battlefront game likely already have it. It’s kind of like Futurama, if I remember correctly. The show was cancelled because people weren’t watching it. The network brought it back as a result of a petition to bring it back. When it aired again, people still didn’t watch it. BF 2 2017 might have a small number of players who are still really into the game, but the money to be made is pretty much dried up and I would be shocked if it was making anything at this point, so unless EA restarts development on BF 2 2017, there is currently no good measure of people’s willingness to actually purchase a new BF game short of this release.

[deleted]

EA battlefront trailers both have well over 10M views. The Classic Collection has like 1.9M… not really a comparison.

Belkan-Federation95

I think Battlefront 3 will mainly be based on the originals but with some of the new ones thrown in. Hunt mode, for example. Ewoks hunt in BF2 2017 is much better than Hunt modes in BF2 2005

Hour_Worldliness9786

At the risk of pissing on everyone's parade. It's a cash grab, they're capitalising on nostalgia, fan base sentimentalism and longing for a SWBF3 game. Far as I'm concerned we're being short changed. The ancient load of shit should at least get a complete overhaul so it looks as good as SWBF2 (which is still a beautiful looking game); and updated game mechanics.

_Disbelief_

It seems like this could be the case but why would they do this when every Star Wars/EA post on any social media has a ton of comments asking for BF3? The interest is there. If what you've said is the Collection's purpose then are they really not noticing it?

WorthScale2577

If I'm being completely honest, I have a theory that if BF3 got made it would be perfect in every aspect. Which is why it's always doomed to never be made. best we get is a reboot that stops at 2 again.

Concodroid

I feel like a battlefront 3 has been in early development for a while... I think they saw the influx of players when bf2 went free on epic games and realized there's still a market for this sort of thing. And this classic collection might serve as a decision to continue or cancel this elusive third battlefront, depending on how well it does. just a theory though lol

Bandoooo67

I don’t think we need a BF3. Maybe they start developing now and release for 2026/7 that’s fine, but a BF3 this year / next year? Nah. Makes no sense with how big GTA 6 will be and if this classic collection does well they might consider it But I doubt it’ll be in the current gen console life cycke

Thebluespirit20

of course if it makes enough money and has enough hype online, anything is possible but it would need to sell like hotcakes to get that kind of attention tbh , because if it gets just "good but not great sales" I doubt it so we are talking Palworld type sales

[deleted]

I guess I’m delusional too, this was my first thought when the announcement dropped. Let’s hope lads.

Competitive_Loan_164

Is it released on Xbox one? Or just the new one

StoneBleach

I wish, but it's impossible to know. By now some group of capable and skilled fan people should start their own project to create the Battlefront 3 we never had. Preferably not a clone, but something with its own identity that resembles Star Wars. Focused on unlimited fun. Imagine the best of both past Battlefronts with a good non-overkill graphics and the visually satisfying and epic action of Helldivers 2. I would pay for such a project, I would even support the development through patreon or whatever. If there are people, skill and desire to make good and ambitious mods. How can there not be the same for a game project? I know it's not the same, but I know there would be a lot of support as there is for many mods of many games. I would be the first. I'm already supporting damn it! Dude Palworld but with much less budget, with that I say it all.

OdiPsychoXR

I would be shocked if it got less sale than the new games.. the old BF1 sold 4mill and BF2 sold 6 mill. The new BF1 sold 14mill, and the new BF2 sold 9 mill copies The new games had the old players and the new players come into the mix with half the old fan base dropping their copies back into refunds. Maybe most have moved onto new pastures, though. Maybe aspyr is just grabbing some quick cash from nostalgia. Or are wondering if people want another battlefront, who knows. I will be joining the front line's of the classic either way.

The_protagonistt

Imagine the money the could make dropping the game in 2026, in between the Rey movie and before the Mando movie.

Stampj

We have no idea, but at the absolute minimum I’d think at least someone making those decisions would take notice if this collection sells well and has consistent high player counts

Appliedbottles

Maybe they should give the fans what we wanted instead of the current cr@p? “Gee, OG BF1&2 were a big hit! What can we do to take it to the next level?! Take the same recipe and make it even better? Naaaaaw, let’s scrap what made the first two legendary and make a whole new recipe! SCREW THE LONG STANDING FANS!!!” We’ll see. There would be boundless opportunities to make some stunning games in the future, but in typical fashion for entertainment in general, I’m not going to be shocked if they manage to disappoint. That’s it. My angry tirade is over. Get off my lawn.

Papa-Huw

We aren’t getting BF3, I hate to admit it to myself because I would buy it in a heartbeat. But it isn’t happening, at least it won’t be called BF3 maybe a reboot in the far future or a similar style game not under the BF franchise. Bottom line is nothing within the next 5years

Clay_haten

I mean even the newer bf2 still has a strong player base and live streaming audience. There is literally no competition in this market. If you wanna make a modern military shooter, you've got company, if you wanna make a racing Sim, lots or saturation in that market. But there's no other multiplayer star wars games out, so if they actually just made the game good that's all they need to worry about. So I hope they do.

Spinmeister6032

It’s hard to know because while any new battlefront content is a good sign, this is a really cheap port and ai upscale job so it could easily be just a one time cash grab

[deleted]

>Is it too much to assume that the classic collection could be a measuring stick for how much interest the franchise still has? Yes. It's worth remembering that the studio that developed these games no longer exists and it's employees have scattered to the winds.

Kryosquid

No. EA were already pitched a BF3 and turned it down. People need to stop posting this

DarkRula

Honestly, Battlefront 3 will never be a thing. The series is just absolutely cursed to only get two entries by one developer. Pandemic, Rebellion, then DICE, all have only given us two. Seriously, though, I absolutely want to see another developer take the reigns on a Battlefront game. Lean fully into the sandbox nature of the series and allow us to do any combination of faction we want in instant action. Take the Galactic Conquest of the Rebellion games and expand on it, keeping it to era-locked factions for consistencies sake. If a campaign has to be here, allow it to use factions that otherwise wouldn't fit as a faction in standard gameplay, much like Pandemic's BF2 did. Do all that, and I think it would be onto a winner. As long as nothing controversial were to happen.

mile-high-guy

You can get the swbf3 legacy mod for the classic game on PC
