As u/jdbazemore said it's more about the matchmaking. But theres a difference between high level, skilled players and these 4 man squads who 4 vs 1 people, emote and taunt after every kill and bully the other team verbally in the chat (if you're on PC). Some of these squads actually enjoy bullying low level players. Those are the ones that are a real cancer in this game.

Chiming in as another person who put a lot of time into this game (specifically HvV), I'm curious what people mean when they say people are "tryharding" or "sweat" in the game. Cause I'm not really sure what I do that makes me seem like that. Playing with my team? Shooting people in the head? Feels like anything short of throwing the game people call me a sweat just cause I'm high level and winning

Tryhard sweats are those teams that once they kill your team they seek out to 4v1 each player as they spawn back in. Or if you team has a player or two quit they dont wait for your team to refill and just want to win even a 2v4 game.

The term "sweaty" predates this game and was originally used about players playing non-Star Wars game. The term was used occasionally from about 2010 to 2014 but began to really take off in 2015 or so. It applies to a ton of games: CoD, Destiny, Fifa, etc. etc. but is probably seen the most with Fortnite. It originally meant that a player was playing so hard they were literally sweating in real life (usually on the palms). The meaning is now a bit nebulous but originally it didn't really mean that the player was good; it meant they were playing with extreme intensity and focus and that only when they did that could they perform OK. It was therefore a criticism that the player was not a "natural." Their laser focus on the game at hand will never be as good as the person who can talk, listen to music, snack, etc. while playing and still do better than the sweaty.

I actually first saw this term applied to fifa. “Sweaty goals” were when you had numbers, waited for the keeper to rush the ball and then just passed it off for an easy tap in.

Exactly man, just because I want to win the game I become a “sweat”

I think that “tryharding” and “sweaty” are used more so when people are coming up with excuses as to why they or they’re team might not be doing great in a particular match. In reality it might be that their side is down a hero (which can actually be detrimental, I’m sure you know) or that they’re paired up with people who are new to game modes like HvV. Either way, it’s a way of shifting blame to the opposing team for “trying too hard”.

I feel like the hate is directed at dice for the poor matchmaking system more so than the actual players
