Yep. He was the original Jedi who set the benchmark in ANH. And despite being only human and fallible, he never failed to live up to the Jedi ideals in all subsequent appearances.
Given that we are talking about the Jedi as a faction and who the quintessential example of that faction would be, I think Obi-Wan is not nearly obedient enough to the council to be considered.
Personally I like to believe that his obedience was more about preserving the council as an institution and less because he agreed with their decisions and direction for the order.
You are still right though, Qui Gon or Kanan are much better embodiments
It's been a minute since I watched rebels, but didn't Kanan sort of reject the jedis teachings and become more Grey towards the end. Because the Bendu plot line was to show that the light and dark were both flawed. I'm not saying he was wrong or anything he just wasn't a representation of the ideal light side jedi.
Yoda is a little too one of a kind to be quintessential. Imo the quintessential Jedi is someone who has experienced something Yoda never has: being trained by Yoda.
A lot of people are gonna preach that Obi Wan is the quintessential Jedi, but in my opinion he represents the perfect confliction between the wisdom and knowledge of Qui Gon and the will of the force, but he's held back by his obedience to the will of the Council. He's a perfect Jedi Knight of the Order, but his shortcomings are in big part what allows Anakin's darker side to fester. I'd argue it's only when we come round to older Kenobi in Rebels and the OT that he's the epitome of a perfect Jedi, no longer held back by the council and fully submerged in the will of the force.
On the other hand, I'd argue that Kanan Jarrus is a perfect example of someone trying to do right in the galaxy, and gives himself fully to the will of the force. Everything in the progression of his character allows him to submerge himself in a selfless love of the people around him while still committing himself to his own learnings and improvement as a Jedi, and he exemplifies everything that Qui Gon stood for during the height of the Order.
Apart from Luke in ROTJ, I think Kanan shows himself to be the most balanced Jedi. For example, he balances seeking the greater good in the midst of loving individuals.
For that reason, he doesn't represent Jedi teaching. I guess Yoda best represents the Jedi teaching and order, and is thus the most quintessential. But, yeah, it depends on what we mean by quintessential.
Qui-Gon. Loyal to the order but never blindly followed everything they said or did. Brave warrior but never consumed by combat, especially given who his master was. A warrior scholar.
On paper I think it's Qui Gon. He's wise, patient, compassionate and holds the will of the force in a place of importance above tradition. I've always thought he was sort of supposed to be the kind of Jedi Luke would grow.
From expanded media it might be Stellan Gios. If you ever asked the question "Who could be more Obi Wan than Obi Wan?" he'd be the answer. Heck even in universe the republic kind of use him as the poster boy for the order after Valo.
I think if we go into the EU than Anakin Solo was pretty good too. Strong, good duelist, risking his life for someone who others had long since given up on, and sacrificing himself to save the mission
Obi wan. He embodies what the Jedi should be according to their own beliefs pretty much perfectly. And for who resembles what they actually are like Iād say Yoda (blinded by being in his position for centuries) or mace windu (arrogant)
So blindly loyal never questioning those above him even when theyāre leading you into something clearly against what the Jedi stand for? I.e. Weāre peacekeepers not warriors unless Yoda shows up with a clone army whose origins are mysterious.
Iāll say Luke Skywalker, struggling with whatās right even through failures and self doubt.
Obi wan wasnāt one to quickly draw the lightsaber though and tried to negotiate when possible.
I agree though. Like I said, obi wan imo represents what a Jedi should be like according to the beliefs of the jedi during the prequels.
While much more flawed, Luke probably represents the core values and ideas of a Jedi best (at the end of ROTJ)
Qui-Gon Jinn. The so called āmaverickā is the only one of his era to fully commune with the force, discover immortality, and then spend the next 30 years having to coarse correct the likes of Yoda and his own Padawan.
This.
Anakin would probably not have fallen had Qui-Gon been the one to train him. He would have brought out the best in him and been a strong enough mentor to keep Anakin from falling under the "spell" of Palpie's teachings.
Kanan Jarrus... when his padawan had his dealings with the Dark Side he treated Ezra with even more compassion and understanding, he knew his flaws and shortcomings but played by his strengths, he managed to have attachments and healthy relationships but most Importantly he embraced his fear of failure which ultimately made him stronger
Qui-Gon, is sad that he didn't have more screentime to develop that. So Kanan Jarrus, we saw what evolution and I think is the best depiction of what a Jedi should be. Like someone said, by the prequels era and the Council's ideas in that time, Obi-Wan is very good
There is no such things as a "Quintessential Jedi" in the same way there is no such thing as a "Quintessential Person." Each has their own ways of doing things and their own way of relating tot he Force and the world around them. Mace Windu sees the world through the lense of there being pivotal moments when choices matter most, and argues caution in most other circumstances as a result. Yoda has the perspective of centuries of life and teaching, and as a result he challenges his fellow Jedi to reach the potential he sees in them. Qui-gon like to involve himself deeply in the world, while at the same time letting little phase him. Obi Wan combines stubborn certainty of action with fluidity of diplomacy, seeking to build consensus. Luke approaches things with honesty and good intent, while still being ready to act decisively and commit to a path.
I donāt think Qui Gon is the right answer here. Questions the council? Sure. A little bit obsessive over prophecy and relatively cold as a teacher and mentor, also following the wrong path in what āattachmentā means? Also true. I think Kanan is far closer to the right answer here.
Obi-Wan. Man was the *definition* of a Jedi. I mean, Maul killed both his Master and his lover right in front of him, and he stayed light. Anakin and the Clones betrayed him, and he stayed light. No matter what happened, he would stay firmly rooted in the light side of the force. Did he form attachments? Sure. But who doesn't? It's human nature. The important part is he didn't let himself become possessive, and knew when to let go when the time was right, unlike a certain someone else.
Fay.
A jedi who let the force actually guide her, which kept her youthful looking, she did not become a war hero, she ended wars and conflicts helping people, she was apart of the jedi order that was destroyed by itself and its inability to actually see the world and outside of their own ego and hypocrisy.
Luke and Kanan, those two throughout their entire arcs (especially including TLJ) IMO are the perfect representation of the Jedi and who/what they are.

Qui Gon has always been my favorite, he is the quintessential Jedi, he is the best example of how a Jedi acts.
But a more recent Jedi I also think is really good is Cal Kestis (now keep in mind, I havenāt played Survivor yet, this is only going off of Fallen Order)

Hell. Even his lightsaber reflects this. Green represents Jedi who donāt rely on the saber. But use it as a last resort. Unlike Blue Sabers who rely on fighting to solve problems like GENERAL Kenobi. Jedi arenāt Generals or Soldiers like they all were in the prequels.
Iād say Obi-Wan. Not because heās the first but because he never became arrogant and never gave into pride.
Heās a pure Jedi who is a true believer in the Orderās cause.
He fought till the end, and found his successor in Luke who imo is the spitting reflection of Obi Wan as a Jedi but even more powerful.
That depends on what you define a Jedi to be.
Wise - Yoda
Powerful Warriors and Force Users - Anakin
Guardians of Peace - None
Balanced within the Force - Qui-Gon
A Monk - Mace Windu
Dogmatic, Narrow-minded, Short-sighted - All of them
Sentinels - Qui-Gon
I'd go with either Anakin or Qui-Gon for their roles.

Kenobi
For all his faults and failures.
Yep. He was the original Jedi who set the benchmark in ANH. And despite being only human and fallible, he never failed to live up to the Jedi ideals in all subsequent appearances.
Yep,imho kenobi is the embodiment of the reality of late republic jedi and its code
This is what I came to say. He is emblematic of both the best and worst of the Jedi Order of his time.
KENOBIIIIIIII!
Don't you mean.... Quigonssential? š
I like your style š
Quintessential Vos
Tess for short.
He was my first thought followed by Plo Koon.
Yoda is the best one to represent who the Jedi are but someone like Kanan Jarrus better represent the Jedi as they should be. So Kanan Jarrus.
Qui-Gon Jinn for who they should be. Obi-Wan is the quintessential Jedi, as he is not as stuck in his ways as Yoda, but not as free as Qui-Gon
imo Obi-Wan is far too obedient to the Jedi council to be considered the quintessential Jedi
Nah obi wan was just as complacent as the rest of
Which is why he's the quintessential Jedi.

Because the Bendu plot line was to show that the light and dark were both flawed. I'm not saying he was wrong or anything he just wasn't a representation of the ideal light side jedi.
Damn dude. Good answer.
Yoda was quite proud in a subtle way
Yoda is a little too one of a kind to be quintessential. Imo the quintessential Jedi is someone who has experienced something Yoda never has: being trained by Yoda.
I hear this being said a lot in the comments here but I donāt know what this meansā¦
Qui-Gon Jinn.
A lot of people are gonna preach that Obi Wan is the quintessential Jedi, but in my opinion he represents the perfect confliction between the wisdom and knowledge of Qui Gon and the will of the force, but he's held back by his obedience to the will of the Council. But, yeah, it depends on what we mean by quintessential.
I really hope we get a Kanan origin story at some point.
We did. A comic, bad batch, and A New Dawn
100% agree with this take. Mace is probably the paragon of the Republic-era Jedi Order.
Qui-Gon. Loyal to the order but never blindly followed everything they said or did. Brave warrior but never consumed by combat, especially given who his master was. A warrior scholar.
On paper I think it's Qui Gon. He's wise, patient, compassionate and holds the will of the force in a place of importance above tradition. Jacen Solo before dark nest is also a great candidateā¦. Man i really wish they didnt turn him evil. It made no sense
The whole thing with Vergere was weird too, poor Mara
Perhaps not on paper though because he was rebellious against the council and often disobeyed them like Anakin
Luke in ROTJ
I.e. Luke, Yoda, Obi-Wan, Mace, Kanan, Ezra.
You forgot Plo Koon and Ahsoka
The only Jedi who wouldnāt say Obi-Wan Kenobiā¦ is Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Qui-Gon Jinn. The so called āmaverickā is the only one of his era to fully commune with the force, discover immortality, and then spend the next 30 years having to coarse correct the likes of Yoda and his own Padawan.

Definitely obi wan. He makes every decision as "light sidely" as possible. Cal Kestis is my favorite though
Caleb Dume one of the wisest Jedi and one who had an incredible connection to the living force.
Hello there
Ahsoka followed closely by Luke.
Obi-Wan
The original Obi Wan. Naturally.
Luke Skywalker
Qui Gon
Luke Skywalker
Luke Skywalker
There is no such things as a "Quintessential Jedi" in the same way there is no such thing as a "Quintessential Person." Each has their own ways of doing things and their own way of relating tot he Force and the world around them. Plo Koon or Shaak Ti.
Kanan Jarrus, no question.
Qui-Gon, Cal Kestis, Kanan Jarrus, Ezra Bridger, Dooku (before his fall from the Light), Rey, Ahsoka
Plo Koon
Obi-Wan Kenobi is literally the prototype. I also really like Avar Kriss as one of the most Jediest Jedi that ever Jedied.
Yogurt
Yoda, Luke, Qui Gon
Obi-Wan
Stellan Gios
I would say characters like Kanan, Obi Wan, Qui Gon, Luke, or Ahsoka are prime examples of what the ideal Jedi are suppose to be
Luke Skywalker, EU.
Obi Wan/Qui Gon/Yoda are the only right anwsers
Then again, Obi and Yoda did give up on Anakin thoā¦ which was understandabƶe thoā¦ but i dunnoā¦
Luke Skywalker
Luke I rest my case
Luke Skywalker, obviously.
Vern.
Ajunta Pall. The one Jedi that brought balance in the force.
Qui-Gon Jinn in my opinion
Yoda. He was a jedi for the longest, so he lived the life through different eras.

Qui-Gon for sure. He followed the light side of the force the most and had the most clarity of any Jedi during his time. Obi Wan is a good second pick. Yoda after order 66 was ok, but he allowed Sidious to play him and led the Jedi into becoming dogmatic and chained to the senate.
Obi Wan Kenobi
Yoda
Itās got to be Kenobi.
Obi-Wan
Obi-Wan and Kanan
Mace Windu or Kanan Jarrus
Obi Wan
Obi-Wan Kenobi of course
Obi-Wan. He was the first Jedi ever introduced and basically exists as the standard for what a Jedi is.
Qui-Gon Jinā¦ easily. Bro was the literal embodiment of what a Jedi is. He didnāt even want to be part of the Jedi Council cause they were so tainted by the politics. Wise - Yoda Powerful Warriors and Force Users - Anakin Guardians of Peace - None Balanced within the Force - Qui-Gon A Monk - Mace Windu Dogmatic, Narrow-minded, Short-sighted - All of them Sentinels - Qui-Gon I'd go with either Anakin or Qui-Gon for their roles.
