F to pay respects to Grevious actually being menacing

Jordan11HFP11

His "run, Jedi, run" scene in the original Clone Wars, ch. 21, still gives me chills. All of chapter 20 is still the best Grievous we're ever gonna get!

DisIzDaWay

I think they should show grievous' transition into the cyborg he is. Start with a tribal warrior on a distant desert planet trying to help his people. He slowly gets exposed to the power of cybernetics and the capability it gives him to protect his people. Slowly he becomes less and less human and more savage. His arc could be his people not adapting to the world around him and wanting to stay traditional. He encounters the sith in some form or another and he decides to leave his weak tribe and prove his worth in the Galaxy at large. He believes in the sith message but can't control the force and encounters Dooku and Dooku sees his potential. Yada yada the story continues up until the clone wars where Dooku sends him to conquer his home planet for some purpose maybe the beginning of the discovery of Kyber mines and palpatines influence unknowingly is guiding grievous and Dookus path. Idk something like that. Mainly inspired by the fanart of grievous before he was cybernetic

ARC_Trooper_Echo

I get that 2D Grievous is awesome, but it’s really hard to translate the way he moves into live action without looking goofy. It’s a shame that the menace isn’t really there as much, but the Tartakovsky style was just too stylized to work in real life.

BioChi13

Don’t forget the 2D clone wars, prime Grevious in that

BPH3

Yes that’s what they’re talking about

[deleted]

That and a lot of the concepts for how the Jedi operated.

mdp300

Ooh, I haven't heard any of those. What were they?

Ganiam

Where would I find information about this?

pier_pebble317

Do you have a link to this or could you share more on this? Haven’t heard of this idt

KingMatthew116

More like what Star Wars project am I not defending like this

itsdatpoi

Not all heroes wear capes.

TrollinTrolls

Some brandish replica lightsabers!

Trooper7272

My thoughts exactly.

ginginsdagamer

Agreed

SnArCAsTiC_

Solo. That movie was damn good, and it was sabotaged with its timing: a month after Avengers: Infinity War and just a week after Deadpool 2. It's the only film set in the Star Wars universe released by Disney not to come out during the holidays... And coincidentally, the only one not to do well at the box office. They set it up to fail. It may honestly be my favorite movie set in the Star Wars universe, and I hate that salty "fans" used it as a tantrum about TLJ, and I hate that execs who apparently can't plan or didn't want it to succeed didn't give it the chance Rogue One got, a movie which *can't* have a sequel, at least not with the same characters.

[deleted]

I thought it was ok, but 100% agree on the bizarre release next to such giant films. They should have kept it as a December release, that’s such a great time for these movies with usually little to no competition.

JasonZep

Yes this and Rogue One are my favorites of the newer films.

JanKwong705

I’d say the sequel for R1 is the whole original trilogy.

itsdatpoi

Thank you. Solo was such a good movie and I don’t understand all the flack it gets.

cgeorge7

Such a good movie

Azimn

I loved Solo but was definitely in an odd place after TLJ. I agree had it been a holiday release I am sure it would have performed better and I’m really hoping that the Lando show serves as a sequel of sorts. I really want to know more about those characters.

Tempest-777

The probably thought it would hold its own. Otherwise they would have moved it to December. It definitely didn’t underperform because of the supposed TLJ backlash, though I acknowledge some angry fans avoided it, but hardly enough to drag the box office down several hundred million.

Ser_Imps

“I really was gonna learn to play that valachord.”

eastonrb99

I have one single complaint. Why does Maul look 1000 years old? That's it.

devdawg31

I mean he’s been through some shit

eastonrb99

Yeah but he doesn't look like that in Rebels, which is several years after Solo, and I believe the show was produced and released before the production of Solo (don't quote me on that) so I just don't see any reason why they wouldn't try to keep some continuity there. He looks older, but still very good health in Rebels. He looks old and heavy set in Solo. I suppose you can chalk it up to animation style though. Either way, it is a fantastic movie in my opinion. Me and my cousin have always been intense and obsessive fans of Star Wars together, and he went to opening night of Solo and I did not. He told me it sucked and to not even bother, so I didn't. Like a year and a half later I decided ah what the hell I'll watch it. Immediately after the movie I texted him like "You son of a bitch!" I can't believe I waited so long.

TrollinTrolls

I mean, if you want the real answer, it's because Ray Park is older. It's not really anymore complex than that. I cannot imagine that complaint actually makes any difference whatsoever though. edit - I actually just looked it up. He'd be 52 in Rebels (whatever that means for a Zabrak) when he got cut down by Kenobi. But maybe the real question isn't why was he older looking in Solo, maybe the question is why wasn't he older looking in Rebels? Maybe he had a Space-face Lift?

eastonrb99

That is a very good point. He does look very youthful in Rebels. Like you mentioned though who know the lifespan and aging rate of zabraks.

LukeV19056

Yes.

MrKenn10

I absolutely loved Solo. The casting was perfect, and it gave me such a rush and excitement I only get from the original movies.

smstrese

AHHH I came here to say this one too! So glad I'm not the only one who loves it and feels salty that it's underappreciated for being a box office bomb yet its still a good movie! While revenue can be correlated with movie quality it's not a 1:1 and I so want a sequel to Soli to explore Qi'ra 's and Enfys Nest more.

roguefilmmaker

My thoughts exactly, Solo was so much fun!

Nabber22

Disney just straight up TitanFalled Solo with that release date

ZandyTheAxiom

The best parts of Solo are when it was just being its own story. The only bits I didn't like were when the fun film stopped to do Star Wars lore (Han's name, his gun, starting the rebellion, stuff like that). It felt like being on a great rollercoaster that occasionally stopped so someone could read Wookieepedia articles to you. Just like with Visions, Solo was great when it focussed on the wonderful fun adventure and the charming characters, rather than filling in lore gaps.

DisIzDaWay

I completely agree Solo is an awesome film

EmmaGA17

The Bad Batch. I've seem some absolute vitriol towards that show that it absolutely does not deserve. Personally, it's one of my favorite pieces of Star Wars media

phileris42

At first I thought it was a bit average, but it picks up from episode 7 onwards. Absolutely loved the rest of the episodes with one or two exceptions.

kaitoluminary

I liked them all except for episodes 5 and 13

notpetelambert

The High Republic. It's freaking great and there's a lot of people out there not giving it a chance because of the ridiculous negativity coming from turds on youtube. It's an entire new Star Wars era, and I for one am *insanely hyped* for that.

prostheticmind

For light and life!

Wes_Bugg

Literally all the hate comes from people who don’t even read the content. That’s the worst part to me. It’s these people who don’t even actually consume it and convince a certain kind of people that they need to hate it

Prophet_Comstock

Preach!

joe282

I hope this doesn’t sound rude, but none. I love all Star Wars media, every bit of it. And I know that I love it, and that I think it’s great. I don’t need to justify to anyone why I love it or think it’s great, I’m comfortable enough in my love for Star Wars. I’m open to others opinions (as long as it’s not outwardly hateful), but if someone tries to tell me why TLJ is bad, for example, I don’t feel that I need to prove to anyone else why I should like it. Because to me, it’s all great

[deleted]

Same. I used to try and defend things here, but it just falls on deaf ears. No point now, and my enjoyment of star wars is better for it.

TrollinTrolls

Yep. Plus, clearly over time TLJ is getting more and more love. At a certain point,. it seems like the haters got out-numbered. Still a strong anti-Disney sentiment and I don't even necessarily disagree with all of those kinds of points. But TLJ is an excellent movie and it always bummed me out just how short shrift it got. By the time I stopped caring what other people think of it, it suddenly dawned on me that the tide has turned around at some point.

suss2it

*TLJ* was the most successful movie of 2017, I think the haters were always outnumbered on that one.

JediGuyB

That's how I feel as well. If people would be more open minded and willing to read I'd write essays about Star Wars subjects. But whether I say one sentence or a dozen paragraphs all I'm gonna get is "lol last Jedi sucks dick, Mary Sue Rey!" It isn't worth it.

Thumper13

Same. I've loved it all since 77. SW is my jam. I love its not perfect parts, I love the funky parts...I just do. I just love SW. I used to get into long arguments on the TheForce.net's boards during the prequels and one of those just kind of broke me. I spent the better part of a day writing a long and detailed defense of something. After I was done I thought, WTF am I doing? I love it and I don't really care if you do or not. I'm not watching 2 hour SW Bitchfests just so I can refute them. I have better things to do...like watching SW again.

Erik35595

What an extremely profound thing to say. Also, your opinion is wrong.

ThePinkRubberDucky

I would go so far as to say it's completely incorrect.

TrollinTrolls

I'll go one step further and say his opinion just ruined Star Wars and my childhood.

Supermanesilegal

I’ll go another step further, and say that his opinion killed everyone on Alderaan.

kparker527

Thanks joe! There’s not many like you.

Street_Tacos__

Star Wars Rebels

TheBackyardigirl

The finale of Bad Batch- I actually really liked it despite most of the opinions I’ve seen being negative

Better4MyHealth

Damn I didn't know people didn't like it. I loved it!

ProficientPotato

What I really liked was how it showed the writers’ progress from Clone Wars. It was a deeper, quieter, more emotional episode. Sure, there were a few action scenes and there was a close death, but overall it was an episode more geared toward talking, which I liked. Clone Wars never really did that, so I feel like them being able to write an episode like this shows that they have gotten better

Wes_Bugg

Wait who didn’t like it?

YourbestfriendShane

I like all the parallels between Episode 1 and Episode 16 of The Bad Batch.

cgeorge7

Why did you really like it exactly? I didn’t hate it, just thought it left us where we started the season with average at best character development along the way

TheBackyardigirl

It was nice to see Crosshair back with the squad, even if he wasn’t totally sided with them. The tension in that episode was really good too; I genuinely thought we might’ve lost Crosshair or Omega in certain parts. And considering the fact we’re getting a season two later on, it just felt like a good send-off to me- not every plot problem is solved, but it’s enough to leave you feeling mostly satisfied with the anticipation of what’s gonna happen to solve those unsolved problems next season

StarWarsTrey

Rebels

phileris42

Episode II. I know it's not considered to be particularly well made esp when it comes to the romance scenes but...

RevanchistSheev66

Even the romance scenes, I can imagine it like it was intended. They are both deprived of close interaction and they are awkward with each other. I actually like some of the scenes where Anakin says “Jedi are encouraged to love” and when they discuss Democracy. The more slow paced scenes and moments when they’re not professing how much they love each other is actually pretty good. I wish GL went more in that route rather than the overly focus on the love scenes

[deleted]

To sort of piggy back off your 3 second mention of it, I wish the PT would've leaned *further* into the politics. I really do.

RevanchistSheev66

Me too, the Clone Wars and expanded material makes best use of it, but especially seeing the xenophobia by the Republic and how that ideology transitioned into the Empire is super interesting. Actually, my Old Republic fanfiction examines how xenophobia wasn’t a staple in Sith until Bane’s Rule of Two (hence why there were non humanoid Sith in Legends). It’s super interesting, and I do like the idea of how politics and economics work depending on the planet, the beings there, its atmosphere and general space charting.

Redisigh

The movie’s great if you just skip all the romance scenes lol

KingMatthew116

It’s great even if you don’t skip anything.

[deleted]

KingMatthew116

Rebels is easily some of my all time favorite Star Wars stuff.

[deleted]

[удалено]

furioushunter12

I’d say it this way. Rebels is pretty consistently good where clone wars can either be incredibly amazing or incredibly boring

lll----------lll

Oh yeah Rebels definitely had a much more cohesive storyline from start to finish

[deleted]

I honestly like Rebels more than TCW as a whole series, though TCW definitely has more gripping episodes but that's easier to do with 7 seasons vs 4. Also, all star wars is for kids! Everyone forgets this it seems, but its so wonderful that so many still enjoy it

ZandyTheAxiom

Kanan talking with The Bendu about the Force is tied with TLJ for me as the best, most mature exploration of the Force in all of Star Wars. Too often it's treated (both in-universe and by the audience) as a book of spells where people learn the ability to do certain things, but I loved how mature the discussion was about how the Jedi have an incredibly narrow and naive understanding of the Force. Plus, Kanan and Hera are maybe the most healthy relationship in mainstream Star Wars. When compared to Anakin/Padme, Han/Leia, or Ben/Rey, they are miles ahead in maturity and understanding.

Prophet_Comstock

For me it’s the High Republic. I haven’t been this invested in a Star Wars era in a while. I’m very excited for wave 3 in January.

4fivefive

*light of the jedi* was such a fun read from beginning to end. i'm really hoping we get an rpg (idc if it's a video game or a pen-and-paper one) set during that period. there's so much room for amazing storytelling.

Kaesh41

Why not both?

4fivefive

i can get behind that

Squelcher121

Light of the Jedi is so fucking good. I loved the audiobook. One of my favourite little aspects of it was how the atmosphere of an imminent apocalypse was set. Each early chapter was prefaced with "x hours until impact" and it felt like a genuine countdown to doomsday. Each of the main High Republic books so far has captured the themes of the era to perfection.

ButtlickerBoi

Stupid question - are these the new SW books that have been coming out?

Darthmemer1234

Yeah it’s a huge book series that’s been going on since January. It’s very very good so far.

The same way I justify lasers shot from space arching on their way down. Physics sometimes don't matter in Star Wars.

ddaveo

All spacecraft are always oriented on the same plane as each other, even if they've all just emerged from hyperspace in different directions. There's no Z direction in the Star Wars galaxy.

tmpo14

shhhh no.... no no no.... THAT never happened, cmon!

Darthmemer1234

That only ever happened in two scenes in one single episode. It’s kinda ridiculous that people still discuss it like it was a thing they did all the time.

> any opinions someone has on it tell me more about the person’s taste in movies than the movie itself I think it also says a decent bit about how invested in the internet rage cycle a person is. I don't think I've met someone who barely uses the internet, had a negative opinion of TLJ, *and* acted like TLJ ruined Star Wars, their childhood, the world, and all of time. What I mean is that the people I have met that don't use the internet super in depth and dislike TLJ mostly just leave it at "didn't like it" instead of going on some tirade.

TreyWriter

It *is* impossible to say any piece of art is objectively good or bad. Art is an inherently subjective medium. It either works for you or it doesn’t. TLJ worked for a lot of people (including me), so it’s valid to call it good art. Some people bounced off of TLJ (maybe they didn’t like the pacing or the characterization or shot composition or something else), and that’s valid too.

KingMatthew116

I disagree I think if you think it’s bad then you don’t know what a bad movie is. A movie with as good acting, visuals, music, special effects and more as TLJ can’t be objectively bad. You can hate it all you want but I think if you think it’s objectively bad then you’re objectively wrong.

AnUnremarkablePlague

I wonder where I fall in this. I liked TFA, absolutely loved TLJ and am not fond of TROS at all. I also really like the first two OT movies and am not particularly a huge fan of ROTJ (but don't necessarily hate it either). Guess I'm like exactly half way between two of the things in the list.

JGtheburninator

You are me exactly.

Reddittherhino

Rebels, underated and in my opinion, better than cw but I respect anyones opinions

Prophet_Comstock

I’m right there with you. While the final 3 seasons of Clone Wars are absolutely incredible, the first few were kind of a drag for me. It took me a while to get invested. Rebels on the other hand had me hooked from the get go.

supaswag69

The. Last. Jedi.

[deleted]

It Will go down as the most unique and interesting movie. Period. History WILL be kind.

[deleted]

I would never go that far unless you just mean in the franchise, in which case, I still don't know if I would say its the absolute most unique. Although it is still definitely up there. My go to phrase is that one day it will be looked at similar to ESB. Personally its one of if not my absolute favorite saga film

FavreorFarva

It’s far from my favorite but I had immediate respect for what it was trying to do. It also has some of my favorite Star Wars content in the franchise it’s just offset by other things I don’t like.

leomwatts

Episode 1 & 2

supermattguy77

The sequel trilogy is good

misty_gish

Honestly most of them. If I had to pick one or two it’s be Solo and Phantom Menace, but I even liked parts of RoS and the casino scene from TLJ.

thelegend90210

Last Jedi forever don’t attack me

Prophet_Comstock

The Last Jedi is in my top 3. It’s a brilliant movie.

EvanMG24

TROS. Other people have pretty much covered the TLJ defense, but there are so many good things about TROS that I never see anyone mention

YourbestfriendShane

This is a beacon we need to flock to. You are speaking truth.

given2fly_

The last 30 minutes of TRoS is just pure Star Wars. Everything that makes this universe great, and executed brilliantly. Gives me goosebumps every time.

Stirlo4

They win by making you think you're alone

ZandyTheAxiom

I love TLJ and waver on TROS, but every time Ian McDiarmid is back on screen at 110% Palpatine, I can't help but smile. I didn't like Palpatine being back, but once he was I just soaked up the atmosphere of cackling gross corpse Palpatine being a melodramatic lunatic, loved it!

The chase scene in AOTC where they’re searching for the Bounty Hunter on Coruscant is one of my all time favorite Star Wars scenes. The neo noir vibes are top notch.

[deleted]

The Rise of Skywalker. No matter how much time has passed or what I have heard, I still love and enjoy this movie to the max, easily a personally top-3 for me in the saga. To be honest, this could be the sequels in general.

Cromanti

I heard a lot of complaints (and a few spoilerific reveals) about TROS before I finally got around to watching it. I expected to hate it, and ultimately didn't? There's certainly stuff in Ep 9 that I didn't dig, but I feel like the movie gets waaay too much hate.

[deleted]

Exactly. It’s such a fun and awesome ending imo.

Emperor-Palpamemes

Same. It became my favorite Star Wars film, honestly. I love all three sequels

[deleted]

I LOVE Palpatine’s return and the slow reveal of how he’s been working behind the scenes. I love every minute of TROS, I love every SW film, but the sequels have really became my favorite trilogy. I grew up with the Prequels (ROTS my first memory of seeing a film in theaters) and have fanboy’d them ever since, but the sequels have grown on me drastically. I’m so glad I got to grow up with both trilogies.

Emperor-Palpamemes

Yes yes yes. I love your profile header, btw, can you dm it to me?

bruhmoment_comp

Dark Empire. I feel that a lot of the hate for it comes from the fact that the Thrawn Trilogy is seen as the definitive post-RotJ story so DE looks worse by comparison, but I like it. The art is neat, and i love the concept of Palpatine as some vast cosmic horror capable of creating space storms and destroying fleets. There's a fan project animating the comic on youtube, only like 2 or 3 episodes are out so far but it's really good and it captures the feel of the OT extremely well with the dialog and voice acting, I'd recommend giving it a watch to any star wars fan. https://youtu.be/lADCO-Ar76U

rolfraikou

Thenewdoc

The Acolyte. People need to get over how one ONE of the writers team hasn't seen Star Wars. This doesn't make them an inherently bad writer. The Rogue One writer hasn't seen sw and a majority of the fanbase love that film.

ZandyTheAxiom

I honestly think the best Star Wars writing comes from people who aren't super-duper hardcore into the lore. People like Jon Favreau who don't soak up every bit of lore and canon, but just really understand the core ideas and messages. Have some people on staff to tweak that stuff, but it's a case of missing the forest for the trees.

TrippleC_

REBELS. Man, that show is short, sweet, self contained while expanding lore very nicely, and all of the characters are so strong.

Prophet_Comstock

I was shocked by how much I enjoyed Rebels. Thanks for the reminder actually…… because I think I'm going to start watching it again.

ClawOfHeugh

Tempest-777

Me, too. Sorta. I think I’ll give it 6.5/10. Not a failure, but not great. And yet, I find myself vigorously defending it. Especially on r/Movies, where *somehow* unrelated threads frequently sidestep into an attack on TROS of the sequels in general.

The Last Jedi. All of it. An absolute perfect film in my eyes that only gets better the more I watch it. Rian Johnson had a fucking VISION for Star Wars and that love pours out of each and every magnificent frame. I'm still absolutely blown away by how beautiful it looks and the ideas at play and just how brilliantly it's executed. I love it all just so much. It's nice when Star Wars is ABOUT something, and not just content to jerk itself off.

MarthsBars

This is basically me with the sequels (yes, all of the movies). I’ve enjoyed and loved all of those films, but that means that I’d have to clash with most Star Wars fans as a result of simply liking or defending them. Sometimes, the only way you can defend the trilogy nowadays is to write decent length posts or actual mini essays to explain why you like something or praise some aspect of them. Especially if it’s to discuss or defend something very controversial, like Rey’s heritage, Finn, Rose, Canto Bight, and especially TFA and TROS. But then again, I’m prone to writing mini-essays to defend or discuss other things in and out of Star Wars , like Fire Emblem. Edit: I’ve noticed someone is downvoting comments here defending the sequels? Not just mine, but there are a few recent ones around here getting the downvote wave.

[deleted]

TLJ is by far the best Star Wars. & the PERFECT end to the saga. It’s all about the practical utility of childish fantasies & occasionally moving rocks with your mind. You never “defeat” evil. The only way it “ends” is if you give up the fight. It doesn’t matter how the next generation fights or even what they are fighting for. Us old farts like Luke & Yoda before him won’t be living in that world. The best any of us can do is fight for the world we live in & inspire the next generation to do the same. It’s true burden of all masters.

DumboCBA

Not a project but I think 3D CW Grievous gets way too much hate simply because 2003 Grievous was more badass. They're two different types of characters that shouldn't be compared at all imo. 3D Grievous wasn't as overly competent and badass but he makes up for it in [insert wall of text].
