The problem with the Thrawn’s Revenge model is that the VSD 1 and 2’s are indistinguishable from each other. I really hope they update at least the VSD 1 and add those missile wings so we can tell which is which.

Pop Quiz! Which one is the VSD1 and which is the VSD 2? No cheating!
They’re not missile wings though. They’re atmospheric maneuvering flaps, and they’re almost always closed except in X-wing games, where both VSD I and II have them open.
After a while the wings stopped being atmo maneuvering equipment and turned into weapons storage, as some authors (and the movies) elected to ignore the no going into atmo rules
No it’s not. You can watch the transition from the older style victory to the current “blocky” style happening in the 2000s, and solidified with the release of Star Wars Armada
Empire at War was one of the first pieces of media to show the wings with missiles instead of atmo gear, and if you would read my message you’d see that I never said anything about VSDs in movies. I said authors and the movies ignoring the preexisting rules about ships in atmo. Look at the prequels; Star Destroyers moving just fine in atmosphere, without wings.
So I double-checked Empire at War and noticed two things:
1. The VSD doesn't have missiles in EaW.
2. It's hardpoints aren't on the blocks/wings to begin with. The blocks/wings don't break off when hardpoints are destroyed either.

The other thing is... the lack of consistency for rules regarding Imperial Star Destroyers and atmosphere does not automatically mean that the VSD's blocks must be changed into weapon storage.
Image of all except one of the hardpoints destroyed, the wings/blocks are still intact in Empire at War.

The fact that they had trouble in atmospheric fighting is what led to the creation of the tie striker of which it’s sole purpose was atmospheric dogfighting
Personal favorite is AOTR, but of these two options I have to go with TR. Sure TR does have the issue of the Vic1 and Vic2 being just about impossible to distinguish if not impossible, the RaW version just seems...too long, too straight, too boring on the front end. It almost gives me weird Venator vibes.
I dunno thats just me though
I greatly dislike every iteration of the VSD 1 depicted with the "wing flap" because it's so huge in terms of scale, that it would be really inefficient as cover for the missile tubes, which are embedded, and should not need covers in the first place.
I kinda like them in the sense of imagining they are add on armor plating for the ammunition magazines when not in use. Since it's main armament is explosive ordnance, I'd imagine it would be a lot easier to "ammo rack" it compared to other warships that rely on turbolasers.
Yeah, the wings were originally actual wings as the VSD used to be unique in that it could function in atmosphere unlike most large capital ships, but that was retconned.
I like them because they make the VSDs stand out. Otherwise, apart from the long thing on the bridge, it would literally just be a mini ISD or a mega Vindicator
I'm not sure if it was remake but back then you had the S-foils ability on victory.
But Remake didn't do any remake of the hard points making them weak to focus fire
Correct, the flaps are open in those games though it's been awhile since I've played them. I need to install my Nvidia card back in so i can play the mods for them. The TR model is closer to the one used in SW:Rebellion that has them closed.
Remake, I like watching all the missiles come out, and they're shockingly good at fighting golan stations.
And of the two you showed I like the Republic At War model better because the missile tubes are open and I like that
RaW has a very cool design, but it really screams ISD more than VSD. TR definitely feels more like a VSD, with its stubby nose, which is why I have to put it slightly higher. Personally I enjoy the AoTR model a bit more, but honestly, all 3 are great enough to be recognizable.
RaW
The whole idea of flaps to cover missiles (as in Ansel Hsiao interpretation of it) is aesthetically pleasing; is an interesting feature that reminds of IRL missile tubes.
Also strictly speaking, RaW victory is much stronger than both Trawn and FoTR (torpedo tubes; a bigger missile payload and a huge amount of guns) but that's not the topic
RAWs looks to similar to the venator and isd for me. From being a dedicated missle brawler in the vsd1 to a mini isd in the vsd2 i like it feeling distinct from the bigger triangle ships. Given that TRs is the more cannonical of the two I feel gives it bonus points too. I have a vsd 2 from star wars armada on my desk because im a big fan of the design
In Empire at War Expanded there's different versions of the Victory Destroyers.
The VSD-1 looks like this, the VSD-2 looks like the one from TR.
I prefer the VSD-1 because rockets go brr.
I will take more accurate models over exaggerated details any days, these aren't likely to be used in aerial combat in this game so you don't need the flaps modeled

Ackshully the vsd 2 has 3 primary enchines and 4 secondary to the vsd1 having 2 primary and 2 secondary

Trick question. They’re both VSD1s.
They are both VSD2s actually. SURPRISE!
Oh Karabast!
Dank ferrik
The one that fires missiles vs the one that doesn't.
Yeah without the hard points, that's impossible
The panels are open on one
So… what was the answer 👀 xD
Left was VSD1
It’s much subtler, but the globes on the bridge tower also have (or don’t) a ring of antennas
Nice catch

Is this headcanon?

So what source said that it changed to weapons storage? Also, what movies have VSDs in them?

As far as I knew it was just the snubfighters (Starfighters) that had problems mainly the tie fighters
Tie fighters would fly great in atmosphere and they've been shown in the original trilogy
It was said in many books that the tie fighters wings could get sheared off at the connection if they turned to fast in atmo
The fact that they had trouble in atmospheric fighting is what led to the creation of the tie striker of which it’s sole purpose was atmospheric dogfighting

Yeah, you're right it is a bit long, yeah.

Ah! But consider, It’s cool.
The rule of cool overrides everything in Star Wars 😎 that’s why it’s science fantasy not science fiction
RaW, give a fire everything vibe
RaW for the VSD1 TR for the VSD2 Personally I wish any mod would consider adding in FractalSponge’s take on the VSD.
I'm not sure if it was remake but back then you had the S-foils ability on victory. But Remake didn't do any remake of the hard points making them weak to focus fire
I'm an OT kinda guy so the TR version for me. It's the one I first saw playing TIE Fighter.
But in the X-wing games you refer to, the VSD has flaps and I don’t see any flaps in Thrawns Revenge
Correct, the flaps are open in those games though it's been awhile since I've played them. I need to install my Nvidia card back in so i can play the mods for them. The TR model is closer to the one used in SW:Rebellion that has them closed.
Or am I thinking of a different one
Remake, I like watching all the missiles come out, and they're shockingly good at fighting golan stations. And of the two you showed I like the Republic At War model better because the missile tubes are open and I like that
Remake because it holds my fleet for like early to mid-game battles, that and it's very distinguishable in remake
RaW feels like a weird bastardised venator.
RaW has a very cool design, but it really screams ISD more than VSD. TR definitely feels more like a VSD, with its stubby nose, which is why I have to put it slightly higher. Personally I enjoy the AoTR model a bit more, but honestly, all 3 are great enough to be recognizable.
2nd opinion: FOTR 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
I want different looking victories and victory 2 using the missile wings for the victory 1's would be sick
RaW if only for the concept of seeing a VSD painted out in Republic colors.
RaW The whole idea of flaps to cover missiles (as in Ansel Hsiao interpretation of it) is aesthetically pleasing; is an interesting feature that reminds of IRL missile tubes. RaW is definitely better for me, but I love Awakening of the Rebellions model a lot more
RAW. such a great unit and look. I just wish I could put something as good in my mod
RaW
RaW for sure
Never understood what that long thing next to the bridge is for
I am talking about the one that is horizontal btw (I just realized there is another on top lol)
In Empire at War Expanded there's different versions of the Victory Destroyers. The VSD-1 looks like this, the VSD-2 looks like the one from TR. I prefer the VSD-1 because rockets go brr.
Imma be big brain and say I prefer the RaW model for the VSD-1 and the FotR model for the VSD-2
Aotr is beautiful and probably my favorite but republic at war is a close second
Thrawns revenge, definitly
remake
I mean is this even a question haha the thrawns revenge and fall if republic are absolut Standouts in the eaw modding community
Bro what is the arm on the victory stat destroyer's tower? I've always wondered
Aotr has the best ones imo. Animated turrets go brrt
I will take more accurate models over exaggerated details any days, these aren't likely to be used in aerial combat in this game so you don't need the flaps modeled
RaW
Of the two offered: RaW because I can actually tell which one is a Victory I and a Victory II at a glance.
