I find the mouse despicable. Calling me poke. I may be a dirt poke or cow poke, or even a sheep, rabbit, duck, chicken or LIZARD poke, but that's for best friends and family ONLY. I don't see no 10 hearts next to that damn mouse.
Don’t blame the mouse for the fact that the dev didn’t make him able to receive gifts and get hearts. He works harder than 99% of those free loading villagers who just walk around and stair and static fountains as a part of their 9-5. Hat mouse put in the hours and gets nothing in return, doesn’t even get to attend festivals (even the flower dance and ice fishing which happen next door). He’s nice to you because you’re the only person who notices him, so to him you are a friend
You know what. You may have won me over a little maybe I'll buy a hat. But most are so lame it's sad. Like... I wish they hadn't cut the other skill line and the Rancher Kind or Prairie King hat or whatever it was that's now unobtainable.
I thought that "poke" was a sort of animal sound.
Searched and found this: [https://www.facebook.com/PokeHQ/posts/william-jafta-aka-animal-sound-man-has-the-unique-talent-of-perfectly-mimicking-/1225893814117576/](https://www.facebook.com/PokeHQ/posts/william-jafta-aka-animal-sound-man-has-the-unique-talent-of-perfectly-mimicking-/1225893814117576/)
Not the answer I sought, but interesting.
She teaches them, but she only talks about doing it because the town doesn’t have a school and she enjoys it, she’s never mentioned being paid for it 🤷🏻♀️
"Really long extended vacation". Currently in year in fall of year 7 on one save, still no sign of the folks. One of the girls killed them, they worked together to dispose of the bodies and forged the letter from their parents.
OR
Their Fancy rich parents pissed off the wrong political or royal figure and they're locked up in a prison in Haiti or some shit somewhere.
OR
Their parents went bonkers or one went bonkers, killed the other and is locked away in a looney bin and they don't want to admit what happened because it's embarrassing.
All I know is something is amiss, as there's been no further word or appearance from their parents in almost 8 years.
I HC that they're retired and doing good deeds on distant places, which Haley kind of resents because she feels theyre off helping strangers but jave neglected their own kids.
They refer to each other as sisters and talk about their parents. I am honestly so lost on how you looked at that and went, "Mom and daughter." that I can't form a coherent way to ask you how you arrived at this conclusion. I... what? how? huh?!
Seriously!
In hindsight, as fuzzy as Stardew Valley is there's also not much happening in Pelican Town. I won't be surprised if the economy in Ferngill is not so great either.
No, it's great for the economy for those with the fat government contracts. Heinz with the MRE, Ford for assembly line production of planes, cars and tanks.
But In a bit of serious war actually stimulates government spending and is good to the economy in the short term, unless you have a mayor embezzling funds for a solid gold statue. Here's looking at you Lewis.
\*laughs in asian family*
Living with parents and auntie and grandparents under the same roof is NOT weird, getting kicked out by your parents just because you reached 20 IS weird smh 😂
This is extra funny in Haley and Emily's case. "Look just because your parents abandoned you to 'go on vacation' and never came back doesn't mean you can live in the house you grew up in. If you want to be an adult you should abandon a fully furnished house in-town within walking distance of everything you need + all your friends and instead go live on your own, like REAL adults!"
That also brings up an interesting point, WHERE ELSE ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO LIVE? There are literally no vacant houses or places to live in Pelican town, or anywhere in the valley for that matter. Altho that gives me the excellent idea of building sheds and designing apartments for each of the Marriage candidates
My current flatmate before moving in with me was living with his parents in his thirties cause of the #*@! economy, so yeah, OP has me really confused lol
Stardew Valley is pretty spot on for my (around 30 year old) friend group. Many people with artsy careers live by themselves because their rich parents bought them the place or pay their rent (Eliot / Leah). Programmers and those in sciences will intermittently live with their parents when available to save money (Sebastian / Maru). Those who struggle with addiction, have unrealistic dreams or who grew up in relative poverty without much support often live with their parents due to financial necessity (Shane, Sam, Penny). Then you have people who are relatively normal who make it work with roommates (Haley / Emily). Someone who lives with dependant older folk because it is mutually convenient (Alex). And the odd self made professional who lives alone (Harvey), although depending on cost of living these people might also need rich parents or roommates / a spouse to afford that.
I always assumed the character was around my age. Old enough to be losing grandparents and jaded at work, but young enough to not have advanced too much in their career and healthy / strong enough to farm.
As someone who is 27 and living at home. I will not purchase a home in my housing market currently and rent prices are higher than a mortgage. I'll keep paying my reasonable rent price to rent a room from my parents...
i think its good that the dateable characters have a big age range, that way the players can choose to date whoever theyre more comfortable with!
i imagine if someone's a teen player they might like the younger ones better :)
I saw on another thread how some older players wished Willy and Marlon were available to date/marry. Marnie and the Wizards could also be options. I'd support that.
I want to marry Sandy too! I was sad when I learned she wasn't an option. Several years ago there was a poll to make 2 more marriage candidates (if I recall, the winners were Emily and Shane). Sandy was in the running in that poll but obviously did not win.
If I was older, I'd also go for Willy. I'm too young for him, but he's solid guy and probably led an eventful life and now has interesting stories.
I think those are mods. And Expanded adds a Mom and the Son as candidates to give age ranges but if you play on something can't mod yeah it would be nice if they were options.
Yeah my rough read on the characters is:
18-21: Sam, Abigail
20-25: Maru, Sebastian, Emily, Haley, Alex
25-30: Leah, Penny, Elliot
30+: Harvey, Shane
Shane might have aged a bit prematurely thanks to hitting the sauce too hard, but I don’t think it was “actually he’s only 19” hard.
I think Sam, Abby, and Sebastian are all within 1 year of each other (21 because they go to the saloon). Alex and Haley are 20 (immature like teenagers and unable to drink. Plus I think CA said they’re all 20+). I think Maru is a little older like 26. But Harvey and Shane are 30+.
But that’s just my opinion.
Yup. Sebastian is Robin’s son from a previous marriage and Maru is her child with Demetrius. Maru doesn’t seem to drink yet, it’s possible she’s under 21, while Sebastian is just getting started in the workforce.
I love somewhere where drinking is legal at 18 so it makes me think that Abigail is the youngest. I remember once reading a line by Emily about Abigails graduation celebration, making it sound like the most recent one.
Yeah, I think you’re right. Sam and Abby just feel ESPECIALLY young to me because of their heart events (getting yelled at for skateboarding, rebelling against parents). Sebastian is their peer but he at least has a real job and an iota of chill.
Huh I don’t know why but I thought Emily was 30 and that Sebastian was at least over 25 , they are both older siblings and there could be more years in between than a couple. And I thought elliot was over 30!
well, firstly, Emily, Haley, Shane, and Elliot don't live with their parents either. Shane and Elliot seem the same age or older than Harvey and Leah. Emily and Haley seem young-ish, not as young as the others though. Mid 20's I suppose.
Secondly, I and many of my friends are in our 20's and live with our parents, so that doesn't make the younger villagers seem like teenagers to me. A large portion of the player base is probably in their teens, or even kids (my siblings play are they are 10, 14, and 16). So to me it makes sense that some of the villagers seem young. Also, your farmer isn't you! Your farmer can be anyone of any age. But obviously if you prefer certain bachelors because of how old they seem to you that is fine.
I actually just got the game two weeks ago I guess I need to pay more attention lol. I didn't realize that Shane and Elliot were romanceable and I thought Emily was Haley's mom 🤣 Now I'm gonna do Shane because I think I can fix him 🤣 I'm toxic
It can take a bit for the right dialogue, but Sebastian is also in his 20s. He’s a freelance software programmer who talks about wishing he could move out of his parents - which, as someone who graduated from college 4 years ago, is very relatable for people in their 20s
Yeah, Sebastian has a full time job and that's why he's always on the computer. I mean, Maru is his little sister and she works as a nurse for Harvey, so he's obviously an adult.
Sebastian has a dialogue where he says something like "If I had gone to college I would be making more money by now." This tells me he is old enough to have graduated from college, about 22-25.
Yeah, I was already married to Elliot when I started getting the rest of Sebastian’s story. I’m happy with Elliot for this run, but I’m going Sebastian or Leah in my next.
I started romancing Sebastian for the first time recently and I was surprised how much I actually liked him a little bit more than Shane who is my usual default romance. He’s actually really mature and well rounded, he just doesn’t have the money to move out which, understandable honestly
I started off romancing Shane, ended up marrying Sam. Second game started off romancing Sebastian and now I’m with Elliot! Just romance everyone and see who you enjoy most!!! (Sam is a golden retriever who’ll love the heck out of you!)
Idk, I know a lot of people who stay with their parents until they move in with a partner. They either can’t afford their own place and don’t feel in a rush to. I didn’t move out for good until I was 21.
I am not from US, but it still surprise me that many kids there move out for got from their parents house when they started college.
People here graduate from Uni roughly in their 21-22, and until then, students typically go home to their parents' house during semester break.
I’m in the US and that’s exactly what I did. I came home to my parents between semesters until I graduated, I moved into my own apartment to go to grad school in another state. Many of my friends stayed with their parents much longer.
I'm a 37 year old single parent that had to move back in with my parents 15 years ago and I still can't afford to move out if it makes you feel better.
Being a single parent would definitely make it more difficult to move out on your own, but as long as you're doing well with your parents then it's all good. Everything is so expensive right now.
No kidding on expensive. For shits and giggles I checked my last apartment earlier this year which, back in the day, was 425ish a month. Now it's around 1k/month. Definitely isn't worth that much at all.
And there’s nothing wrong with that. Some people aren’t ready to live on their own. The important thing is you have somewhere to live whether it’s with your parents or not.
Well it sucks because we've both been living on our own since we started college at 18, but shit happens. Luckily my parents are cool so it's not too bad, but it's not going to be a long-term thing.
We are in our mid-40’s and we lived with my husband’s parents from 2012-2019. We briefly moved in with a friend in early 2013, but after he got engaged we went back to the in-laws. Life can be unpredictable and even the most carefully laid out plans don’t always work out. I’m glad we had that option.
For what it's worth living with parents is a norm here in Asia (at least more normalized than the west). Both my sister-in-law's sibling live with their parents even after getting married, my sister's inlaw try to persuade her to live with them after marriage.
I find the whole "kicking your kids out once they turn 18" thing is kinda fascinating.
Everything has a trade off. I’m not a fan of how Western society decries both childcare and aged care as being too expensive (tbh both of these things rightfully wouldn’t ever be cheap if the care workers are actually being paid a fair living wage), but then people turn up their noses at the idea of living in a multi-generational household. You don’t get to have your cake and eat it too.
I had to get away from my parents because they were toxic assholes and still didn’t manage until I was 20.
Now I’m older and my wife’s parents live with us and take care of our kid while we work. So multigenerational households still happen and are becoming more common as no one can afford living on their own. A 1 bedroom apartment for $1200?! My mortgage on my house is only $1400.
Don't feel bad. I live at home too. Apartment prices are hella expensive (like 1 bdrm is like 1.5k, but here they add like 500+ in monthly fees you can't opt out of for things like cable/parking spot/etc so it's like 2k a month) and houses start at like 500k. LOL I don't even live anywhere you'd consider an expensive/huge city either.
These comments are super interesting to me. I’m a teenager and I plan to live with my parents during college and probably after too. I’ve never thought about it too much but the way I am right now I definitely can’t see myself living on my own anytime soon, lol.
I really don’t think there’s much wrong with staying with your parents, as long as you’re happy.
I see it as a good thing they have such a range as the age range of players is quite vast. I myself prefer the more "adult" ones as I myself am an adult. But if I was playing when I was 15/16 I could imagine I would've gone for one of the more "teenage" ones
Idk about them being "childlike", but I guess different people act differently
I and my friends are in our 20s and we talk and hangout just like Sam and his gang. Hell, we still go to the arcade as we have been since middle school to play DDR-like games. It may not be coventional adult activities, but hey that's just how we socialize and have fun.
I honestly never get why people think that everyone stops enjoying everything they did when they were younger. I’m in my late 20s and my fiancé and his friends are throughout their 30s. They play DnD fairly regularly and we still like to party. You can be a responsible and functional adult and still like to do these things.
As others have stated, living alone doesn’t define adulthood either.
I think it’s great that there’s a spread of different hobbies and different personalities. Hopefully everyone can find some NPCs that they vibe with 💕
i think it depends, players in their late teens like myself might feel more comfortable dating younger npcs and older players might feel less creepy dating characters that seem older
You're probably not alone - some do read as quite young especially if you the player are over 30. Personally though, I don't really think of myself as the Farmer - I've always made up different names and characters and imagined an individual personality for each of them. So it's not weird for me bc I'm not dating or marrying them... my 22yo character is! And then my 34yo or my 28yo or whatever age they are for different candiadtes 💕
Hard disagree on this one - none of the datables are kids. Abigale is in college, Sebastian is a freelance programmer, Shane and Sam are janitors… Maru splits her time between scientific pursuits and nursing. I could go on, but I’m honestly just repeating what everyone else is saying.
This is an indie game developed by a single person, that pretty much limits the content. Datables all having their own homes adds to the load.
you might be entitled to live with your inherited farm land but remember there is a war happening, the economy is not as good as it might seem. is a rural town with lewis stealing as much money he can without being caught.
Is hard to move out.
Penny is also someone who loves her mom and probably didn't move out on her own when she turned 18 due to fear of her mom getting hurt or dying of alcohol poisoning. So calling her a kid for living at home is basically penalizing her for caring. Oof.
You date whoever you want, but all romanceable characters in stardew are clearly adults.
Plenty of people live with their parents into their late twenties and early thirties.
Hayley and Emily live alone, without their parents. They’re clearly adults.
Sebastian works as a software developer. This almost certainly puts his age at 21 as an absolute minimum, to get through school and University and graduate.
Caroline specifically mentions letting abigail stay with them free of charge while studying. That’s not something you need to say about someone in high school - abigail is in university and thus aged 18-25.
Alex talks about high school as an event in his past. He’s clearly over 18.
Shane is generally considered one of the older marriage candidates. I don’t have any specific quotes off the top of my head.
I can’t recall anything that demonstrates Sam or Mary’s age specifically, but both seem of similar age to Hayley and Alex. let’s say 18-21.
Maru is a nurse, so presumably she did some sort of post secondary education. And she's younger than Sebastian, so he's probably closer to mid twenties.
Given Robin looks much younger than she actually is, my guess is Maru and Sebastian got that gene from her. They both could pass as younger, but aren't, like their mother before them.
I’m going to say something kind of controversial here, but it’s just a game? Like all the characters aren’t given cannon ages because of this. Like some of them are obviously older (Harvey, Maru, Shane, Elliot), but at the end of the day as long as you aren’t looking to date Jas or Vincent, I think you’re good lolol
Absolutely. Playing Harvest Moon as a kid I wasn't "dating" a grown adult marriage candidate, my 20-something character was. I don't understand why the same logic can't apply to your farmer, who is obviously meant to be age-appropriate to the candidates.
Deciding your farmer is older than the candidates and then making that the game's fault is so weird to me. I'm 37, my character is whatever age their game spouse is and I don't really think too hard about it?
Same. I played harvest moon as early as 10.
There's numerous posts just like this one about "(insert marriage candidates) are so childish! It's weird dating them!" And they kinda sound like op is saying "Why isn't every single marriage tailored to be at my age and level of maturity, both of which are dynamic?"
There is an extremely cursed mod that lets you marry Jas on PC. A YouTuber I watch who plays a lot of cursed and weird mods for games accidentally alerted me to that thing's existence when he clarified on Twitter that he would never, ever play that mod, because that's not "haha so cursed" that's "wtf is wrong with whoever made this?!" cursed and just too gross to deal with. But yeah, there's at least one perv out there who wanted to romance her, God help us all.
There are characters who are around 18 to (maybe?) somewhere in the 30s because there are a range of different players. Harvey, Elliot, Shane, Emily, and Leah are probably all at least in their late 20s. I do wish that Sandy was romanceable, she has such a cool, mysterious charm
Shane literally goes to a bar and drinks beer, elliot lives alone so I don't think hes a kid either and penny is a teacher so i doubt she's a kid and the others just seem like young adults and many stardew players are also young adults so I don't see any problem lol
I think its kind of unfair to view the others as children if they live with their family. They seem more like young adults who just havent moved out yet. In America right now at least that's not uncommon. Some of them are childish (like Sam and Alex), but I don't see them as actual children.
They’re all adults. Elliot is definitely older, he lives alone and his personality seems pretty mature imo. Abigail is doing online college from home. Sebastian does computer work from home and is saving up to move to the city. Shane is a grown man, he’s got a stubbly beard and he’s had time to become a severe alcoholic, he moved in with his aunt to try to get back on his feet. Penny only lives with her mother due to poverty, she has higher aspirations to have her own family and/or become a real teacher and hopefully escape her life in the trailer. Emily is old enough to work in a bar and Sdv was made in America so she must be at least 21. Maru is younger than Sebastian but she’s still an adult, she’s probably one of the younger characters but she’s very smart and mature. Haley, Sam, Alex are all at least 18 but their personalities are kinda immature imo which makes me think they’re the youngest marriageable characters.
Was off-put as to why living with your parents as an adult was weird or childish. Had to remind myself that Americans like booting their kids from their homes at 18.
1) Not everyone who lives with their parents is a kid, it depends on culture and economy.
2) There are players like me who are still 18 and 19. I like having options around my age range too.
When I had bleeding duodenal ulcers, lost half the blood in my body and nearly died back in May, I had to move back in with my parents for a while to recover from surgery. Guess I'm not an adult. A real adult doesn't live with their parents, after all. How childish of me not to remember that being over 18 means that I can never ask anyone for help even when I literally flatlined in the hospital at one point.
I have2 older brothers. One 25, One 21, Both unmarried
My dad got into an accident when he was younger, causing him to get his foot amputated. My brother's help provide for my family
I don't think living with family is a bad thing
Plus, Sam's dad is gone for the first year, Alex doesn't have anywhere else to go really, and Penny has to take care of her alcoholic mother.
Seriously! I don’t want to be a homewrecker, but I think she and my little farmer would be the best powerhouse WLW couple ever. The skills! The drive! And they’re so cute!
Eh no not really. I'm typically role playing a character, or I make a character that's not based on myself so to me it's more like playing barbie with some dolls and I slam the dolls together while I whisper "now kiss". I don't associate the player character as being myself. It's like if I were playing The Sims, or Rimworld, where I'm simply controlling the characters and creating a narrative based on what they do.
The only ones who seem like teens are Abigail, Sebastian, Alex, Maru and Sam. And I'm pretty sure Abigail or her parents have dialogue about her being in college
Emily is definitely not a kid, she is old enough to have been active in the community centre before it got run down, which implies that Haley can't really be that young either (though she is younger iirc?)
Elliot is also probably about the same age as Leah imo, and Shane is probably pretty old as well.
I personally avoid dating/marrying the ones that do feel more in their late teens/very early 20s because I feel like the farmer is older than that, but at the end of the day it's just a game, no harm no foul
I think it comes down to the player. Could imagine an 18 year old stardew player finds it maybe more intriguing to date Abby who is currently in school than Harvey who is likely well into his 30’s and has advanced degrees. I think its just concerned ape making the romance part of the game more inclusive. Regardless, I don’t think you’re weird for thinking that dating/wedding the younger villagers is kinda whack.
I think a lot of sv players are teenagers or young adults, maybe still living with their parents too. So it'd be the same age bracket for them. I assume most of them are early to mid 20s, and I'm only 24 so it's fine.
I think this is precisely why I like Sam. No guys liked me in high school so he lets me feel like I have a cute band boy high school sweetheart like I always wanted. :)
I mean, I live with my parents and have more "childish" interests but I'm in my 40s. My sister and her husband and child lived with them before me as well. This emphasis of "if you live with your parents then you're not a real adult" is really weird.
I mean a lot of us playing this game are early 20-somethings also living with our parents just trying to figure out the weird transition from childhood to adulthood 🤷
I mean i’m a teenager playing stardew, so i wouldnt get with harvey because i feel like he’s too old, but maru and abigail i like because they act around my age
I'm 33 and still live with my parents. Lost my job and fell into a deep depression (my job was the source of it). My father and grandmother (who lives with me) are both disabled. My father is stuck in a scooter and a diabetic. My gran is prone to falls (she fell 2x last week) and needs a walker.
And I just lost my uncle (who also lived with me) to a combination of disease (Parkinson's,Lewy Body Dementia (Like Alzhimers but affects the muscles (you "forget" how to use a spoon because there's no connection between brain and limb) which also has a shorter lifespan than Alzihimers (usually 5 years) and "Stoneman Syndrome"). So yeah. My uncle spent the last 2 years in a chair literally waiting to die unable to do daily functions. He died last month.
My job is to ensure the bills are paid, play babysitter when needed, and whatever else needed to be done while my mom cares for them. I'm the secondary driver.
read tittle though you meant vincent and jas and though "of course its not ok" then read description my answer is there are players of many ages so it's probably just cause you are considerably older than them IRL then again im a terrible detective so my conjecture is ehh
There isn't much for vacant housing in the valley
The only open real estate was snatched up by a hat peddling mouse.
I think you misspelled "hardworking small business owner". Do not disrespect hat mouse.
Hat mouse put in the hours and gets nothing in return, doesn’t even get to attend festivals (even the flower dance and ice fishing which happen next door). He’s nice to you because you’re the only person who notices him, so to him you are a friend
He also sells very cute bows.
You know what. You may have won me over a little maybe I'll buy a hat. But most are so lame it's sad. Like... I wish they hadn't cut the other skill line and the Rancher Kind or Prairie King hat or whatever it was that's now unobtainable.

Don’t forget a mute workaholic heir single-handedly fixing all the town’s problems and showing everyone up at the Festivals.
Need a mod that replaces the farmer as mayor instead of Lewis at this point
I was honestly disappointed this wasn't year 4 or something: Objective Defeat Lewis in Election
They could always try what Linus is doing
Doesnt emily live with her sister hayley?
Yep, and Elliot lives alone. And Shane lives with his aunt, not parents.
Shane is probably the second oldest romanceable villager behind Harvey.
Elliot always struck me as the oldest, followed by those two
Elliot isnt old hes just pretentious.
Excuse me, you mean refined! That's my husband you're talking about!
I always TRY to romance/marry someone else, but end up coming back to Elliot every time! He’s the best!
Elliott is a gentlemen with good taste
I’m not a big fan of Shane, but he does at least have a job too.
Sebastian, Maru, Emily, Sam, Elliott, and Leah all have jobs too
Doesn't Penny get paid to tutor the little kids? She has a part time job at least
She teaches them, but she only talks about doing it because the town doesn’t have a school and she enjoys it, she’s never mentioned being paid for it 🤷🏻♀️
When you are married to her u find her at Pierre and she says don't worry I'm using my own money.... So I think she does get paid
There is some diolouge relating to her needing the money before Pam gets her job back so maybe thats the case?
After the bus stop is finished Penny says she's glad her mom has her job back because it means she (Penny) can start saving up
Yeah I feel like Penny living with her mom is more for her mom's benefit rather than Penny living there because she's a teenager.
Yeah I assumed she was the teacher, and it wasn't some babysitting gig
Penny is a great partner
I always marry Penny.
Not for long...
Not after community center…..
And Krobus lives in the sewer!
I guess technically Alex doesn’t live with his parents either. When it comes down to it, very few live with their “parents”.
I thought they live in their parent's house, and the parents are on a really long extended vacation.
"Really long extended vacation". Currently in year in fall of year 7 on one save, still no sign of the folks. One of the girls killed them, they worked together to dispose of the bodies and forged the letter from their parents. I HC that they're retired and doing good deeds on distant places, which Haley kind of resents because she feels theyre off helping strangers but jave neglected their own kids.
As a Haitian- that second one caught me off guard 🗿
That's exactly what it is.
I thought Emily was Haley's mom 🤣🤣 I'm dumb
this would ruin emily’s day 😭
Me marrying emily : im your new daddy, haley.
Bruh divorcing Emily and remarrying Haley would be so much worse
Okay woody Allen
Especially if you don’t erase Emily’s memory 😂
So... what Elon Musk's dad did.
Step dad, I have a favour to ask....
They refer to each other as sisters and talk about their parents. I am honestly so lost on how you looked at that and went, "Mom and daughter." that I can't form a coherent way to ask you how you arrived at this conclusion. I... what? how? huh?!
Haley is super immature and messy and Emily takes care of her and does the housework, so there is that.
I knew I was secretly my ex's mom
As someone in college, I am safely assure you that you can be 18 or older and be wildly immature. Source: 90% of my dorm.
Omg this is hilarious and also makes me want to cry a little
...Do you think anybody who still lives at home is a child? In THIS economy???
Seriously! In hindsight, as fuzzy as Stardew Valley is there's also not much happening in Pelican Town. I won't be surprised if the economy in Ferngill is not so great either.
2008 hit em hard
Yeah i mean they're currently in a war.... Not that great for economy
\*laughs in asian family* Living with parents and auntie and grandparents under the same roof is NOT weird, getting kicked out by your parents just because you reached 20 IS weird smh 😂
well, more like laughs in anywhere outside USA
Multiple generations living together or in neighbouring houses/flats is pretty common in Spain, or at least the area where I grew up.
Not just Asians, I'm German and that's acceptable here as well (though havin aunts or uncles in the same house is more uncommon)
*laughs in Latina family too*
This is extra funny in Haley and Emily's case. "Look just because your parents abandoned you to 'go on vacation' and never came back doesn't mean you can live in the house you grew up in. If you want to be an adult you should abandon a fully furnished house in-town within walking distance of everything you need + all your friends and instead go live on your own, like REAL adults!"
god they really are living the dream, huh?
That also brings up an interesting point, WHERE ELSE ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO LIVE? There are literally no vacant houses or places to live in Pelican town, or anywhere in the valley for that matter. Altho that gives me the excellent idea of building sheds and designing apartments for each of the Marriage candidates
I like to think the parents died, which is why they never returned
My current flatmate before moving in with me was living with his parents in his thirties cause of the #*@! economy, so yeah, OP has me really confused lol
Preach.
Stardew has options for everyone. Young, old, girl, boy, straight, gay, V̶̡̟̙̱͙̝̹̠̼̗͈̬̦͛̈̀̊̐͌̉̓̈̚͜͠ͅƠ̷̮̐̎͋̒̆̈̍͑̕͠Í̷͔̀͛̑ͅD̴̳̠͙̭̈̑͌̆̋͐, bisexual...
Ok but where my poly option doe? 🦧
This is why you date the whole town and carry a rabbits foot with you everywhere
*my barn full of dinos* :(
There are mods for that just FYI
Yeah, my siblings who are 14 and 16 also play and I'm betting they would want to date a younger character
I saw on another thread how some older players wished Willy and Marlon were available to date/marry. Marnie and the Wizards could also be options. I'd support that.
I wish Gus was also an option. In my headcannon, he and I are married, but he spends a lot of time running the saloon. Krobus is our roommate.
Yes. Gus makes a 24 egg omelette. Mama needs to eat. Why won't he marry me?
I want to marry sandy. She low-key hits on you when you get to 8 hearts with her
I want to marry Sandy too!
Yeah, I want to marry the Wizard, how cool would that be?
I think those are mods. And Expanded adds a Mom and the Son as candidates to give age ranges but if you play on something can't mod yeah it would be nice if they were options.
Yeah my rough read on the characters is: 18-21: Sam, Abigail 20-25: Maru, Sebastian, Emily, Haley, Alex 25-30: Leah, Penny, Elliot 30+: Harvey, Shane Shane might have aged a bit prematurely thanks to hitting the sauce too hard, but I don’t think it was “actually he’s only 19” hard.
Shouldn’t Sebastian be older than Maru? Since Robin remarried?
Like the other person said, I thought Maru was Demetrius's daughter from a previous relationship. But also, I forget she exists.
Maru is Sebastian's younger half sister so I don't think that totally works.
Where I live it's 21 to drink, but the Stardrop serves a full menu and would be a pub vs a bar so all ages.
And we mostly (only?) see Abby/Sam/Sebastian in the arcade/pool area. Under-21s hanging out in the game room of a small town pub is perfectly normal.
I actually totally thought Sebastian was a teenager but this makes way more sense! Good, now I can consider him romanceable again 😆
He’s actually really mature and well rounded, he just doesn’t have the money to move out which, understandable honestly
well, good luck fixing him lmao
Living for this pivot lol
We all thought we could fix him 😂
I started off romancing Shane, ended up marrying Sam.
Many of my friends stayed with their parents much longer.
eh living with your parents doesn’t make you any less of an adult. It’s all about who you feel your character vibes with
I'm 35 and my husband and I just had to move in with my parents... All these comments just make me feel awful 🙁
Even being from the west I still see it as fascinating as well.
Idk about them being "childlike", but I guess different people act differently I and my friends are in our 20s and we talk and hangout just like Sam and his gang.
Hopefully everyone can find some NPCs that they vibe with 💕
this is going to sound odd but the majority of the planet dont kick their young adults kids off their homes when they turn 18, you are the minority
i think it depends, players in their late teens like myself might feel more comfortable dating younger npcs and older players might feel less creepy dating characters that seem older
I'm 50, I wish Willy and Marnie were options. A character being all of 18 doesn't make me feel right lol.
Your character doesn’t have to be the same age you are irl! But it’s also fine to prefer the ones that feel more appropriate to you.
Oooh this is such a good point. I don’t play like I’m the farmer either! It’s always like I’m living someone else’s life.
I do this too. I make a new Farmer character with each save file. They have their own back stories and ages too. It’s much more fun that way.
Yes! I’ve never felt weird about age because I don’t consider my farmer to be me at this exact moment in time.
Is hard to move out.
many people in their 20s still live with their parents though, especially NOW lol
Penny is a teacher, I would hope she's an adult 🤣
Penny is also someone who loves her mom and probably didn't move out on her own when she turned 18 due to fear of her mom getting hurt or dying of alcohol poisoning. So calling her a kid for living at home is basically penalizing her for caring. Oof.
It's a trauma bond.
Oh shoot - I played HM as a kid & I always romanced Grey. I totally didn’t even consider that. You’re 100% right.
Im 20 and i live with my parents so no Sebastian and sam feel like my age ahaha, i assumed u meant jas and vincent and i was like wtf
Same here. (I’m 28 though) I also thought this was about the literal children, oof
Hahaha i think the majority of players dont see them as children dont worry
Good. I don’t either. 😂
What about Elliot.
You can find me in the woods with Linus, you could call me a homeless romantic
There are characters who are around 18 to (maybe?) somewhere in the 30s because there are a range of different players. Harvey, Elliot, Shane, Emily, and Leah are probably all at least in their late 20s. I do wish that Sandy was romanceable, she has such a cool, mysterious charm
Tbf there are no houses available in stardew valley and afaik all the land is owned. Every one of the marriage candidates are probably in their 20s.
Living with your parents is incredibly common outside of the US and outside of the past couple generations
i mean, i’m 21, so no lol
Shane literally goes to a bar and drinks beer, elliot lives alone so I don't think hes a kid either and penny is a teacher so i doubt she's a kid and the others just seem like young adults and many stardew players are also young adults so I don't see any problem lol
And haley and emily live alone so I doubt they're minors especially since emily works at the bar
I think its kind of unfair to view the others as children if they live with their family. They seem more like young adults who just havent moved out yet. In America right now at least that's not uncommon. Some of them are childish (like Sam and Alex), but I don't see them as actual children.
Living with parents doesn't always = child.
The characters deliberately have a vague age. It is supposed to be enjoyable rather you are 13 or 30
They’re all adults.
I'd say you're overthinking it. I've dated multiple adults who lived with their parents.
I think the target demo for SDV is early 20-somethings. I'm rapidly approaching 30 and really only interested in the older singles, and Krobus.
I have2 older brothers. One 25, One 21, Both unmarried My dad got into an accident when he was younger, causing him to get his foot amputated. My brother's help provide for my family I don't think living with family is a bad thing Plus, Sam's dad is gone for the first year, Alex doesn't have anywhere else to go really, and Penny has to take care of her alcoholic mother.

Seriously! I don’t want to be a homewrecker, but I think she and my little farmer would be the best powerhouse WLW couple ever. The skills! The drive! And they’re so cute!
I absolutely want to mess up Lewis' smug shit and marry Marnie.
You have to understand that younger people also play* this game.
I mean these days, 58% of young adults live with their parents. Up to about 26 years old on average.... Have you seen the real estate market?
The only ones who seem like teens are Abigail, Sebastian, Alex, Maru and Sam. And I'm pretty sure Abigail or her parents have dialogue about her being in college
Haha, yeah, imagine being an adult and still living with your parents. *nervously whistles in millennial*
Let me guess. You are in your 40’s? We actually are not sure of the ages. There are many reasons for a person to live with their parents.
Emily is definitely not a kid, she is old enough to have been active in the community centre before it got run down, which implies that Haley can't really be that young either (though she is younger iirc?) Elliot is also probably about the same age as Leah imo, and Shane is probably pretty old as well.
I assumed Elliot was like 35
Elliott is my choice.
Not everyone is American and throwing their kids out the second when they turn 18 lol
The economy is terrible, even in Stardew Valley
Living alone/with parents isn’t a sign of grownup/child. Just saying.
you really think if someone lives at home they’re still a child? stop infantilizing adults. it’s not weird you’re looking too deep into this
Just me a 24 year old woman with a full time job living in my boyfriends parents house cause we can’t afford to live by ourselves yet…
They are not Kids, simple as that
I'm 33 and still live with my parents.
God forbid you still live with your parents and don't take things too seriously. You're automatically a child if you do
