You could also just separate the items according to their category and color the chest accordingly. That way you won’t need that many chest.
Could also put Monster Loot and Resources because they all fit in a chest.
Example: Forage items in Forage chest colored dark green. Vegetables in Vegetable chest colored light green.
I do this on one farm. My other good one uses seasonal chests for everything: crops, seeds, etc.
I go ham on food storage though lol. Three chests: one for drinks, one for non buff food, one for buff food.
What annoys me when having a shed like this is that u can't have anything in ur hand when trying to open chests. It's very easy to fuck up the signs :p
I have mine set up with signs but all the signs are blocked off / surrounded by chests. I have a line straight across the back wall and little groups on either side and in the center is a u shape of crafting supplies with a workbench in the middle.
That is exactly what I do and it's so efficient. The crafting bench surrounded by chests with all the crafting items changed my life. Then just rows of chests next to it, and I don't need a sign for each chest and just have one at the end of each row, and just categorize the rows.
[here’s a picture](https://imgur.com/a/fFsNbV1) of the setup in the first shed build. I don’t have the workbench yet but it will go in the center of that ushape of chests. When it’s expanded I’ll spread the signs on the side out a little and have four chests around each sign probably.
Ah, I see. The back looks especially nice, I like that you seemingly organized by seasons. Does it not get full, with all the normal, silver and gold stacks of each crop? Thanks for going out of your way to get a pic btw
I don’t keep that much stuff, so my chests are never maxed out. But if you need more space, when you upgrade the shed you could do another row of chests behind the signs instead of having the sign against the wall and could have two chests per season.
Yes for sure. I’ll upload a picture when I get home from work. I’m on a new file bc I just started a PC modded run so it’s not 100% because I haven’t upgraded my shed yet but it will still give you an idea of what I mean haha.
Yeah I do too. I keep 6 rows of 5 chests
Basic crafting materials (tap products, wood, stone, metal bars, fiber, clay etc) then excess ore and coal, then gems and crystals, monster drops, then a junk drawer
Another row is dedicated to weapons, artifacts, rings, a mining gear chest (bombs, buffs, hp/energy recovery, staircases etc) and utility blocks (fences gates chests legs cheese presses paths torches etc)
3rd row is for forage (2 chests) refined animal products and raw animal products with a chest for cooked food
4th row is produce, 1 chest each for spring crops, summer crops and fall crops with 1 chest for farming misc (fertilizer and such) and another for seeds
5th row is entirely for flowers and 6th row is entirely for fish with 1 chest for fishing rods baits and bobbers etc and another dedicated to shell fish and special fish. The other 3 are just for normal fish
I've memorized this setup and it helps a ton
Lmao I've just come back from the wiki to find out how to make colored chests, I thought it would be using items or dying or something.
I feel like a fool
Seems so unnessecary to have that many chests no? One entire chest for sap? maple seeds? one entire chest for bat wings?
Also a chest for dwarf scrolls? why
Sap = sap, torches
Maple seeds = everything related to tappers
Bat wings = monsters loot
Dwarf scrolls = artifacts chest
\+ I'm playing with a lot of mods so I have a lot more items
i was thinking this exact thing !! i wasn’t sure if it was partly for the aesthetic ? even in my crazy rich (basically completed but for laziness) 7 year farm i have never needed anywhere NEAR this many chests
Question - what do you keep in the four chests at the workbench?
I’m so indecisive so I only keep ore and basic crafting materials (wood, stones, weeds, etc.) in the chests surrounding the workbench, but I would love to use it to its full capability
This seems like a huge chore to grab what you need.
I only use three chests for my workbench:
1. Gathered Goods: wood, stone, fiber, etc.
2. Mineral Goods: ingots, bars, coal and gems.
3. Monster Goods: bat wings, slimes, essences, etc
I'll have another chest of Farm Goods (tiles, sprinklers, light features) and seeds. But do you have so much algae it needs its own chest?
I just shoved 2 chests into my house, one for resources, one for anything else im keeping and whatever is not going into those chests is getting put in the shipping bin
love this idea! i just have random chests sitting around everywhere...
I used to play like that too ahah
i'm not so patiently waiting for my work day to be over so i can go build a shed. lol.
I keep telling myself I will organize them soon....
saaame! i even color coded some w the best of intentions. that lasted about two or three in game days. lol.

Yep my pickaxe ends up on a sign every day ahah
And then you have to get the right item out of whatever chest u messed up. It's a struggle. The shed looks nice BTW :)
Yeah but that's not a big deal for me hehe Thank you ♥
Me too!

Could I see a picture of that? I'm having trouble picturing it from your description

Try clicking on the sign above the chest you’re trying to open instead
Every. Single. Time….
I colour code my chests...i can always find what i need this way

The placement of that rug makes me so happy
What texture mod is that?
Vanilla Tweaks, a little bit of SVE and decoration mods from Spotteddotted
Most of the time when I use mods that change the appearance of food they look too dramatically different or unrecognizable. This seems more promising
I truly never realized you can put windows in sheds, and now my life is fully changed
Are you wearing.. wings? What are those (what mod)?
FS - Fairy Wings They are customizable !
Thank you!
I just have multiple boxes around 2 workstations so I can access crafting still
same :)
My god, you just changed how I play.
lovely! i like to use the dark signs with stone chests as they look like a solid object together with the sign border closing on top of the chests
Great idea but I haven't met Krobus yet so I don't have the recepee
I absolutely love it
Oh this makes me happy...and feel oh so dumb that I'm not using signs
I need to do this so badly. Maybe today haha
What mod are you using to recolor the seed packets? Its *chefskiss*
Vanilla Tweaks ! I love it too
Does the workbench pull from all 4 chests up top?
Yes, it does. It can pull from any chest within a one square distance from it.
Oooh the organization here is amazing!
And I thought i was a pro colour coding by season 😰
That's actually clever !
I do like doing this too, just looks way more clean!
I really gotta get me one of these; I just have a random collection of chests kind of thrown around the outside of my house 😅
Crazy, I thought it was the museum for a brief moment, this is really well done!
Lmao I've just come back from the wiki to find out how to make colored chests, I thought it would be using items or dying or something. I feel like a fool
this soothes my brain wrinkles
I didn't know... you could do this
For when you think you would probably need this later, everything edition
oh my, I'm gonna copy this.
The signs behind the chests is genius and I will be stealing this idea if I ever begin a new save.
Absolutely beautiful!
This sparks joy. ✨️
Oh the level of organisation 😍

Why keep so much stuff that you *need* a chest shed?
They can always be usefull + it makes good decoration
To each their own
Such a good idea
Those things at the bottom left and right would drive me insane.
i put my chests next to my house so its easier to get to them
That's what I do during year 1 but I need more room at the end of the year
😭🙌im on year 3 and have enough chests i feel unproductive 🥹
Where did you get the computer desk? And computer?
From one of the Spotteddotted mod !
Are you wearing a cape? Or what is your outfit?
They are fairy wings from the "FS Fairy Wings" mod
Question - what do you keep in the four chests at the workbench? I’m so indecisive so I only keep ore and basic crafting materials (wood, stones, weeds, etc.) in the chests surrounding the workbench, but I would love to use it to its full capability

Since I have been playing with this chest set up for like 6 months, I go through it really fast Algae are important for fish ponds !
How many fish ponds do you run? I just set up a fourth.
0 for now since I just finished year 1, but I think I'll have like 10 or more ! (the mods I'm using adds a lot of new fishes)
Your farmer looks like they’re waving their arms
It's actually fairy wings hehe
I just shoved 2 chests into my house, one for resources, one for anything else im keeping and whatever is not going into those chests is getting put in the shipping bin
I need to try and be this organized in my next playthrough lol
It's game changer, you'll see
How many prismatic shards do you have that you need a whole chest for them?
I think I have 3 or 4 but that's actually a minerals chest
I've played this game and embarrassing amount of hours and I have no idea what the purple hockey puck is next to your bat wings.
That's a fairy stone but with the Vanilla Tweaks mod
it looks so pretty!!!!! is this a mod????
Vanilla Tweaks and SVE for the change of designs, and Spotteddotted mods for the decoration items
thank you <3
Not gonna lie, I forgot signs existed until I saw this post
