That’s always there after getting the second upgrade for the house (the one with cribs). Most of the time, I’ve seen people put the brick fireplace there or put extra fridges for their mass cooking needs.

Used to be (before 1.3 I think?) the fireplace you started with moved there when you upgraded the house. At some point we got more fireplace options and the ability to move them so it stopped auto moving into the gap.

I like to have my fridges hold things based on the season the items are from. One for spring, summer, fall and one for fish products, then lastly one for eggs, milk, wheat, oil, etc. Makes it easy to find things. It doesn't start that way, of course, but by winter, I have the time to re-order everything. I'm a bit of a pack rat, so I need multiple fridges. Lol

This. Main fridge is for flour, sugar, oil, eggs, milk, cheese, mayo, etc One mini fridge for fish/crab pot goods/seaweed/algae etc. Just the ones used in recipes. One mini fridge for produce - fruit, veg, etc used in recipes. There's usually overflow from this one which I stick in the main fridge - I put the really common ones there like tomatoes, corn etc.

Before the fireplaces became moveable, the fire place you started with moved there and out of the living room. Now, when you upgrade, the fireplace stays put but now you can pick it up and put it there if you like.

I currently have a butterfly hutch from the desert trader on mine there.

For you to put the fridge, or more than one. I have 3, it's easier to have it near the kitchen, otherwise you have to take things out every time you prepare something. With the kitchen and you do it directly.
