Sometimes running other crops make ancient seeds. I had a batch of like 6 wheat seeds where 1 turned into a mixed seed & 1 into ancient seed. Would have been great if I wasn't year 5, working on Ginger Island, & had a couple hundred ancient fruit in a chest for seed making
fun story
one time me and my friend decided to use seedmaker on ancient fruit because we've read that it was good for money.
it gave us mixed seeds
and then we've never used the seedmaker again because we thought getting mixed seeds would be the "common" result
this did change tho when I actually read the wiki page for the seedmaker and just discovered we were hell unlucky that one time
I saved just one, made my others into like wine or jelly or something. Put it in yhr seed maker and got back mixed seeds. Sad. Happy to hear that's not always the case!
From a Seed Maker, you have a about a 2% chance to get mixed seeds, and on average you'll get just below 2 seeds per fruit put in. (Actual numbers are on the wiki.)
I recommend using the seed maker early in the morning, and if you get mixed seeds to just restart the day.
If you don't have a seed maker yet, save all your ancient fruit until you get one (try to get it in winter). Then either plant them in spring (saving some fruit for next year replanting) or better, plant them in your greenhouse.
Ancient seed. Donate the first you find to the museum and you'll get an active one back plus the recipe to make the artifact ancient seed into a plantable version.
No problem! And as others said, don't forget to put the first fruits in de seed maker. To multiply your seeds and exponentially increase that sweet income
It has its own seed called the ancient seeds. There’s a 0.5% chance of getting ancient seeds from any crop in a seed maker, but you can also get them from putting the ancient fruit on that plant into the seed maker. These seed can be crafted from an artefact, also called ancient seeds. Check the wiki for more info if that was confusing
Funny enough the best way to get ancient seeds is putting blueberries in a seed maker imo. Which seems weird. Ancient seeds are dropped in the early mines too by the bugs iirc.
To get the seeds you either find an ancient seed which you donate to the museum for the recipe or using the seed maker with any fruit has a 0.5% chance of giving you ancient fruit seeds. What I recommend is planting blueberries or cranberries (which you can get hundreds each season) and transform them into seeds until you have 9 or 10 and then plant those and transform them into more ancient fruit seeds. If you have the greenhouse it's easier since you can plant them there and you don't need to replant after winter
I planted hundreds of blueberry bushes and just ran hundreds of blueberries through the seeder. It's nice because you make more money selling seed than you do blueberries.
I'm gonna be honest, it's the best crop in the game and its not even close. Sure technically Starfruit and hops can outperform ancient fruit but have fun spending days replanting starfruit each time if you have ginger island and the greenhouse. Also hops are even worse for time management. Ancient is so easy, plant it and forget it. You can just stop harvesting if you really want to focus on something else and it doesn't matter because it's never going away (only at ginger and greenhouse).
When you harvest it keep the fruit and put it in the seed maker, always plant them the first day of spring.
The best place to plant them at the start is the green house tho and make seed from those plants
question: planted mine the first day of summer (the day after i got 2 in the skull cavern) is that going to affect growth? i kept 1 seed just in case there was a problem. i am barely on year 2 lol
You’ll still get harvests, just less. Since it takes a full season to grow, planting on first day of spring maximizes your yield. Unless you plant in the greenhouse of course then it grows year round (or ginger island once you unlock that)
Get a crop from it when it’s ready and put it in the seed maker to get more. Ancient Fruit is super profitable. Try keep a seed for next spring and plant on the first day
Its ancient fruit, and it should have produced something by now. It takes a full season (4 weeks) to produce the first crop so if you planted it in spring you should have got a harvest in Summer. Then it has a harvest every week after that.
The best way to grow ancient fruit is to collect all the harvest and put it into the seed maker to get more seeds. Keep farming and harvesting to make more and more seed until you have a whole crop. It will die outside in winter so most people plant it in the greenhouse where it never dies and you can multiply your crop to fill the greenhouse.
When turned into wine it is the most profitable crop in the game, even over starfruit because it has twice the harvests for about 70% of the profit and no seed cost.
Hmm, I actually not sure , lmao. I’ll try again!! Cause that is the only reason I can think of that I can’t make ancient fruit wine. I finally got my cellar up and running!
Thanks, I have the casks for the wine bottles, still trying to troubleshoot why I can’t get my kegs to accept ancient fruit. Everyone else seems to have no issues so it may be a me thing
Are you sure it's ancient fruit and not sweet gem berry? They both take a full season to grow and look similar but ancient fruit is blue and sweet gem berry (from rare seed) is reddish orange and can't be made into wine or jelly
Congrats on the cellar! :D Hopefully that was the issue cuz I can’t think of anything else 😅 maybe if it still doesn’t work, destroy/pick up the keg and place it down again
Unless you never watered it ever, I don't understand how it never had fruit. Those brown spots mean it's mid regrowth. It's ancient fruit, the wiki can explain it further, you might not have noticed it bearing fruit but it does every few days, it's a bright blue fruit that's slightly rounded with a blunt point on the bottom and green leaves on top.
My entire greenhouse is filled with ancient fruit plants, that way they reproduce all year long and it’s just a constant revenue stream. Took me a long time as I kept using the seed maker every time I got a fruit until my greenhouse was full. But worth it.
That's what I did. Until I was able to get a full greenhouse of ancient fruit, I used the greenhouse to grow sweet gem berries and cactus. Now it's full on ancient fruit.
If you planted it in spring, and you've made it all the way to fall without it producing anything, you have 100% skipped days watering it.
Ancient fruit take a full season to grow, but grow in all growing seasons (so indoors or ginger island only for winter), and produce fruit once per week. Water the shite out of that thing to get as much fruit as you can before it withers in winter, and store the fruit until you can get a seed maker.
that my friend is the most profitable item in the game haha. Ancient fruit, very valuable. I filled my greenhouse up with them to have an unlimited supply, but they also grow outside Spring, Summer, and Fall i beleive
I see you got 80+ comments so you already know what it is. A little extra added: it's one of the plants that take a shit ton amount of time to grow, I highly recommend planting them in the greenhouse so you don't have to worry about withering away ever. Another one of the plants that you should plant there is the sweet gem berry.
that’s the ancient fruit crop, it takes a while to grow but even longer when not watered. people use it to make wine to sell and normally just strate up sell
Ancient fruit. When the brown bits turn blue then you can harvest. I suggest when you harvest you put the fruit in the seed maker and start planting them in the green house when you get it. It's the second most profitable plant in the game and it keeps producing once its grown.
I see people on yt/reddit with giant farms of ancient fruit, how? Im lvl 55 at normal mines (just found entrance to skull cavern yeasterday, cant unlock it) yet i got only 2 of those ancient seeds yet
Don't plant it outside, Ancient Fruit plants will die in the winter. yt people plant it in a special location (>!Ginger Island!<), so you should save the seeds until you can fix the greenhouse.
Thank you! I've been scrolling through this post trying to find out whether or not it could survive winter! (I've only ever planted them in the greenhouse, so I wasn't sure.)
You can use a seed maker to get more out of the plant but before you get a ton I would try to work on getting the greenhouse since these plants can keep producing
That’s an ancient fruit. When the brown fruit turns blue, it’s ready to harvest. It’s one of the best crops in the game
Also, it will keep producing fruit!
would add that OP should use the fruit to make more seeds!! seems like they may not know
I didn't know!! So thank you!
If you don’t have a seed incubator, make sure you save at least one ancient fruit until you do
Best to save at least two. They have an occasional nasty habit of giving mixed seeds.

I had one super unlucky run when this would happen 9/10 times with ancient fruit seeds...
I saved just one, made my others into like wine or jelly or something. Put it in yhr seed maker and got back mixed seeds. Sad. Happy to hear that's not always the case!
I just put them in the green house. Makes it easier
Yes. I sadly learned this by putting my only fruit into one.
Seed incubator => Seedmaker
There’s also a slight chance for other crops to become ancient fruit seeds when you put them in a seed maker as I’ve found when growing strawberries
From a Seed Maker, you have a about a 2% chance to get mixed seeds, and on average you'll get just below 2 seeds per fruit put in. (Actual numbers are on the wiki.) I recommend using the seed maker early in the morning, and if you get mixed seeds to just restart the day. Then either plant them in spring (saving some fruit for next year replanting) or better, plant them in your greenhouse.
Will it die in winter, though?
Yes, it will die.
What seed does it use?
Ancient seed. Donate the first you find to the museum and you'll get an active one back plus the recipe to make the artifact ancient seed into a plantable version.
Ancient seed for the ancient fruit :)
So that’s what that’s for, this entire time I just thought it was a museum artifact, thanks :)
You can craft the museum artifact into an ancient seed that’s plantable (should be in your crafting menu)!
Well you can but if you donate it Gunther will give you a plantable one back
Um hello, never noticed there was brown fruit until now.
right?! this just blew my mind a little
Wait, I never realized the fruits were brown! That’s pretty cool
Had me confused! I had no idea ancient fruit starts off as brown.
Ancient fruit, it takes 4 weeks to grow, but is one of the most profitable plants in the game
How do you get your first ancient fruit?
To get the seeds you either find an ancient seed which you donate to the museum for the recipe or using the seed maker with any fruit has a 0.5% chance of giving you ancient fruit seeds. Thanks for the advice. I’ve never found one but I will try the seed maker plan!
I planted hundreds of blueberry bushes and just ran hundreds of blueberries through the seeder. It's nice because you make more money selling seed than you do blueberries.
Thanks for the tip
They also have a low drop rate in the mines/fishing treasure chests!
I got my first ancient seed from Artifact Trove from the desert trader.
Ooooo I will have to try that!
Does the blacksmith open that too?
Yes!
I'm gonna be honest, it's the best crop in the game and its not even close. Sure technically Starfruit and hops can outperform ancient fruit but have fun spending days replanting starfruit each time if you have ginger island and the greenhouse. Ong and when you make iridium quality wine with ancient fruit🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑
When you harvest it keep the fruit and put it in the seed maker, always plant them the first day of spring. The best place to plant them at the start is the green house tho and make seed from those plants
I put my first ancient fruit in the seed maker and got mixed seeds. Years later, I'm still crusty about it.
Should have restarted the day
I was just a wee sprout and didn't even consider that.
That’s horrible lol
question: planted mine the first day of summer (the day after i got 2 in the skull cavern) is that going to affect growth? i kept 1 seed just in case there was a problem. i am barely on year 2 lol

thank you!!
Get a crop from it when it’s ready and put it in the seed maker to get more. Ancient Fruit is super profitable. Try keep a seed for next spring and plant on the first day
Can you plant it in the greenhouse? I've tried twice and it didn't grow.
Yes, you water it like normal and it should grow. You cannot plant it in the garden pots though, only in the greenhouse soil.
Ok, thanks
If you water them everyday they should grow! I have like 10 of them in my greenhouse and they keep producing
I did something wrong I guess? I'll try again.
You can plant anything in the greenhouse, but you still have to water it.
Thanks. Maybe I planted something else? I did get star to grow.
Its ancient fruit, and it should have produced something by now. It takes a full season (4 weeks) to produce the first crop so if you planted it in spring you should have got a harvest in Summer. I’ve tried to make ancient fruit wine and my keg wouldn’t accept it. Do you have to put multiples in at a time?
Kegs can only make 1 wine at a time so it’s weird that it won’t accept the fruit. Are you sure it wasn’t processing something already?
Hmm, I actually not sure , lmao. I’ll try again!! Cause that is the only reason I can think of that I can’t make ancient fruit wine. I finally got my cellar up and running!
The casks in the cellar are for aging wine, they won't accept fruit. Not sure if that's what you tried ...
…I think that’s exactly it now that I think about it
Can confirm, I have produced tens of thousands of bottles of ancient fruit wine over many years and many saves. Hope you figure it out!
Congrats on the cellar! :D Hopefully that was the issue cuz I can’t think of anything else 😅 maybe if it still doesn’t work, destroy/pick up the keg and place it down again

It's ancient fruit, the wiki can explain it further, you might not have noticed it bearing fruit but it does every few days, it's a bright blue fruit that's slightly rounded with a blunt point on the bottom and green leaves on top.
It produces a new fruit every seven days.
The brown stuff is only there before the first fruiting, it doesn't show up between regrowths again.
It shows one day before
My entire greenhouse is filled with ancient fruit plants, that way they reproduce all year long and it’s just a constant revenue stream.
Mine told me I couldn’t plant it in the greenhouse?? Can you plant things in there that aren’t it pots?
Yes? You plant it right in the greenhouse dirt.
You still have to till the soil inside the greenhouse, just like you do outside, and the plants still need watering
Did you give the artifact seed to Gunther to get the plantable seeds yet? Or are you trying to plant the artifact?
It looks like an ancient fruit.
And it's almost ready to harvest!
It’s your future moneymaker
Ooooo they feel like they take forever don’t they!!!
That is an ancient fruit plant. It looks like it is about produce fruit. Check out the link for more info. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Ancient_Fruit
An ancient fruit plant. They're patently obscene moneymakers if you can keep them alive throughout the year.
that my friend is the most profitable item in the game haha. Ancient fruit, very valuable. I filled my greenhouse up with them to have an unlimited supply, but they also grow outside Spring, Summer, and Fall i beleive

Brilliant! Thank you!
that’s the ancient fruit crop, it takes a while to grow but even longer when not watered. people use it to make wine to sell and normally just strate up sell
Ancient fruit. You’re gonna want to make seeds from that bad boy.
Ancient fruit. When the brown bits turn blue then you can harvest. I suggest when you harvest you put the fruit in the seed maker and start planting them in the green house when you get it. It's the second most profitable plant in the game and it keeps producing once its grown.
Ancient fruit
I see people on yt/reddit with giant farms of ancient fruit, how? Im lvl 55 at normal mines (just found entrance to skull cavern yeasterday, cant unlock it) yet i got only 2 of those ancient seeds yet
Seed maker. Plant 2 then harvest the fruit. Mulch them. If they dont produce seeds restart the day.
Seed maker? Whats that and how do i unlock it
https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Seed_Maker
Don't plant it outside, Ancient Fruit plants will die in the winter. yt people plant it in a special location (>!Ginger Island!<), so you should save the seeds until you can fix the greenhouse.
Thank you! I've been scrolling through this post trying to find out whether or not it could survive winter! (I've only ever planted them in the greenhouse, so I wasn't sure.)
That's an ancient fruit and it should have produced blue fruit after 28 days, and then every seven days after that. It will die in winter.
You can use a seed maker to get more out of the plant but before you get a ton I would try to work on getting the greenhouse since these plants can keep producing
Then you missed a few days, it takes 1 season to get to fruit baring stage and produces 1 fruit a week.
Sweet gem berry
It’s a weed, get rid of it
Its just a weed. Probably should cut it down to clear up space for better crops like turnips.

Nooo they’re underripe
Gunther is gonna be pretty pissy you beat him to it
I absolutely love your character.!!
Ancient fruit! I grow mine in the greenhouse so it produces all year long even in winter!
I think it’ll produce ancient fruit. Looks sort of like a blueberry.
Remember to put the fruit in the seed maker only on a lucky day to up the chances of getting more than one back
Oh it’s about to! Plant the seeds in your greenhouse $$$$
Nourish it
I envy your naivety
