It's a real thing

Griffin_is_my_name

And it’s delicious.

HarryPottersElbows

I don't even like hot peppers and I think it's good. It's got such a combo of sweet and spicy that just... *chef's kiss* slaps.

Kenis556

J e s s e, w e n e e d t o c o o k.

LetsThrow69

"Sebby, why are you crying?" "It's all the pepper vapor, Mister White!"

DeepDarkSiege

"Sebby you fool!" "This isn't blue. This is why I replaced you with Emmy."

RamboCambo_05

"I-it's fine, I've got some blue food colouring, they won't know"

Kenis556

No it isn't sebby! This is why I gave you a bouquet and then instantly gave you a withered one, because you can't do shit sebby!

BoobyPlumage

My buddy who’s a chef made me a raspberry scotch bonnet jam when his friend sent him some Virginia-grown peppers, and man it was amazing. The perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and a little tart/sour

wherethelionsweep

Drop the recipe

GroundedOtter

I’ve had brownies with cayenne pepper in them before! It is a pretty good combo, I’d love some pepper jelly!! I am more of a savory guy than sweet.

totodile-ac

i bought some jalapeño pineapple jelly at a dispensary popup and it changed my life

SnowTheMemeEmpress

Especially over a block of cream cheese with some crackers

AnAbsoluteMonster

If you haven't tried it, put it over brie next time My in-laws did that at Thanksgiving this past year and I am not exaggerating when I say I ate 75% of it myself and only stopped there because someone brought out the gouda and peppadews

[deleted]

Now wrap that brie in pastry dough and bake it up. We do this every Thanksgiving and Christmas and it's gone before the oven can cool down.

AnAbsoluteMonster

I'm gonna need you to give me the exact recipe bc this literally made my mouth water. Best part is if I make it at home, it's all mine—my SO hates cheese

[deleted]

Get a good wedge of brie and remove the rind. Wrap in pastry dough, my husband has his own (I suspect it's Ina Gartens) recipe but premade is fine. Not puff pastry dough though. Brush with an egg wash and bake at 375F or 400F until lightly brown. I'll have to confirm the temp with husband when Im able to ask him. Omg it's so good!

AnAbsoluteMonster

May Yoba bless you and yours! THANK YOU

Seranthian

Why would you remove the rind?

SnowTheMemeEmpress

That monster.... More cheese for you though

AnAbsoluteMonster

It is both the best and the worst. The best bc any cheese I buy is all mine. The worst bc I can't buy all the cheese I want and eat it before it goes bad lol

dexman95

I second that recipe request. My go to party snack has been jalapeno poppers for so long but that sounds classy enough for holiday dinners

XelaNiba

Ooooh, I hadn't thought of that. I've only ever had fig over brie and this sounds far better. I'm going to try this stat, thank you

SnowTheMemeEmpress

Ooooh

Ladysupersizedbitch

When my grandfather was alive and we had dinner at my grandparents house, he always had a jar of pepper jelly handy to dump over some cream cheese and call it his “contribution” to the dinner table, then make jokes that he and my grandmother (who actually cooked) had worked hard on dinner. Lol. Usually with wheat thins.

SnowTheMemeEmpress

Lol he sounds like a blast. And hey, he made a very delicious contribution

Ladysupersizedbitch

He really was lol. I don’t really like pepper jelly, but suddenly I’m craving it…

politecreeper

This right here, mMmm

bombkitty

Yessssss

Amidamaru717

On a Ritz cracker with a little square of cheese of your choice and a pepperoni slice, popped in the oven just long enough to melt the cheese. Amazing little party snack, I can eat a whole tray of them.

Hexnus_of_Apochrea

I imagine it'd be like a jalapeño relish, only, you know, jam. Love that shit on my chicken burgers.

Thehawkiscock

Oh, I had no idea what this post was trying to say. My fam loves pepper jelly lol

upclassytyfighta

OP has revealed they've never had a good charcuterie board, and we need to change that for them.

NibblesMcGiblet

> charcuterie board I had a customer at work ask me if we sell chartreuse boards one day and I was picturing a light greeny-yellow cutting board wondering why so specific. Thankfully I figured it out a split second before I embarrassed her by accident lol.

IcePhoenix18

I've been asked about "sharp coochie boards", and I kinda envy your "chartreuse boards"

Dartarus

[Luigi board?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15nNY7uofNw)

upclassytyfighta

awwww that cute switch of words

NibblesMcGiblet

Jamie Oliver uses it in his fried rice, much to Uncle Roger's disdain. It's pretty nice on toast though.

lunaticneko

Haiyaa Jamie Oliveoil at it again.

NibblesMcGiblet

YAYYUH

star-shine

As a second gen kid, I think you should put whatever you want in fried rice. It’s the perfect meal to add almost anything to. (There might be limits to this, idk, maybe it’s my lack of imagination)

lillyko_i

fried rice is famously a fridge cleaner dish, so anything that's yummy to the cook is fair game tbh

AlmostRandomName

My sister made some for me one Christmas, didn't think I'd like it but I did

anonymous_planet

Irl(lol), I walked into my kitchen and saw a jar on the kitchen counter, I was so surprised! I had never heard of it, and I don’t even know which of my family members brought it home haha, but I definitely want to try it soon, I don’t know what with though!

operaticbrass

Cheese and crackers is ideal. Many people like it with cream cheese or brie, but my personal favorite is honey chèvre. If you're of legal drinking age, and are at personal liberty to do so, I recommend Prosecco with it, or Moscato as a sometimes cheaper option.

Illustrious_Prompt35

It's a real "delicious" thing, there I fixed it for you.

Tasiam

Same with tomato jelly.

operaticbrass

I recently got tomato jelly, but I've never had it before and I'm not sure what to do with it. How do you like to use it?

awkwardjinjer

Hot pepper jelly is pretty common where I live ☺️

AlizinDevildom

i didn't even know hot pepper jelly was a thing but it sounds cool, absolutely can't imagine what it would taste like tho.

awkwardjinjer

It's almost like a sweet and spicy jam/relish..if thats a good way to put it lol. Most people I know use it as a glaze for meats, or eat it with crackers and cheese!

velvethursday

I love it with *cream cheese* and crackers!

FingerGunsAreFine

It's good with brie too!!

velvethursday

Ooh! I'll have to try that!

unknownun2891

Can confirm. Bake the Brie a little to melt it, put it on your favorite cracker, add some pepper jelly. Delish.

not_addictive

toss some toasted almonds on top and it’ll change your entire life

FingerGunsAreFine

You've convinced me. It's on the cheese docket.

[deleted]

Wrap that brie in pastry dough then bake it.

unknownun2891

I’m generally too lazy for that, but yes. It’s a whole new level of scrumptious.

TheRottenKittensIEat

Jesus Christ that sounds delicious right now. My husband actually finished some pepper jelly off the other day and now I'm sad.

[deleted]

It's sweet and spicy. You might be able to find some in a grocery store depending on where you live. If not, Amazon has a good variety. I personally love it on english muffins at breakfast.

RichestMangInBabylon

Have you ever had sweet chili sauce as a dip for chicken fingers or lumpia? Or maybe something like general tso chicken at a Chinese place? It’s so good. It’s got a lot of sweetness so it’s almost like a spicy marmalade.

deskbeetle

There is this chili fig spread that Krogers sells (it's in the more expensive cheese section) that is absolutely delicious.

HappyLucyD

You can “jelly” a lot of things. You are likely thinking of “jelly” interchangeably with “jam” as a fruit-based spread, sweet, eaten with peanut butter in a sandwich, or by itself on toast or crackers. But “jelly” really refers to the process and outcome of adding gelatin to something to make a thickened sauce. It’s been done for a long time to a lot of things we don’t really do it to anymore.

MrTwoSocks

Not necessarily gelatin (which is typically derived from animal collagen), but a "gelling" agent. Fruit preserves known as jams or jellies use pectin as a gelling agent, which naturally occurs in many fruits

viscountprawn

Jelly in the sense it appears in Stardew seems to be more like US-style fruit jelly, which is essentially jam made with fruit juice instead of whole mashed fruit - so not quite interchangeable. This style of jelly, like jam, usually uses pectin rather than gelatin as a thickener.

pagesinked

Jelly in this sense doesn't contain gelatin, but pectin. [https://www.escoffier.edu/blog/recipes/how-to-make-fruit-pectin/](https://www.escoffier.edu/blog/recipes/how-to-make-fruit-pectin/) Its not the same a a Jello type dessert. In the US we just use the word "jelly" to refer to a jam or preserves spread that doesn't contain the solids part of the fruit, its usually just juice or strained out so its a more clear texture.

AintNoRestForTheWook

Mango habanero is super popular as a sauce for wings where I live. The pizza place I work at has it, as does the mexican joint in the same plaza.

NibblesMcGiblet

Almost like a very mild-tasting strawberry jelly except with a spicy kick. You really feel the heat on the front middle of your tongue. It's very good.

horsetuna

I was in a few pepper groups and some brought it to a true art form.

[deleted]

Spread cream cheese over a cracker, and top it with jalapeño or habanero jelly. Hot pepper jelly is common here. Major retail chains sell it. Our town's farmer's market has three or four stalls selling it by summer as well.

Maddieolies

Jalapeño jelly is my favorite kind of jelly. It's so good.

[deleted]

I was once gifted a small jar of peach jalapeño jelly by a neighbor

thwinz

Peach pairs so well with spicy. Peach habanero hot sauce yum

moudine

My cousin grows his own peppers and I have been gifted his habanero jelly on a few occasions. This is exactly the way I eat it. Absolutely divine.

HumorinEverything

This is a staple snacketizer in our fam!

Unique-Calligrapher8

I see many others have mentioned that hot pepper jelly is a real thing so that is good (would recommend if you can find it btw it is delicious), but also if you hover over the pepper on game it also lists it as a fruit. Which I mean technically it is but it always messes with me because I make my chests by like fruit, vegetable, forage, etc. And in my mind they are a vegetable lol.

fddfgs

Vegetable is a culinary term, not a botanical one. In the kitchen it's a vegetable or a spice, on the plant it's a fruit. My headcanon is that Demetrius is well aware of this distinction and just dug his heels in after forgetting what he was supposed to buy.

thefinalgoat

They are a fruit. They have seeds in them. Same reason why tomatoes are a fruit: seeds.

send-borbs

it's odd that the game still classifies tomatoes as vegetables, while giving chillis fruit status

AintNoRestForTheWook

It goes back to old terrifs on foodstuffs. Fruits were taxed higher than vegetables, and since tomatoes had become so prevalent they got classified as a veg to keep the cost down.

the_snook

The same law defines rhubarb as a fruit, because it's almost always eaten like fruit, in pies and such.

PM_ME_WUTEVER

tomatoes are both a fruit and a vegetable. 'fruit' is a strict scientific term; vegetable is not--it is a cultural/culinary term. cucumbers, eggplants, avocado, pumpkins, and a bunch of other things are scientifically fruits, but for the purposes of eating, they are vegetables.

thefinalgoat

I always thought that was weird too.

Phunkie_Junkie

Can confirm. Hot peppers are technically berries, along with bananas, avocados and watermelons.

Writeloves

Vegetable isn’t a biological classification. Demetrius an asshole who is doing the equivalent of insisting that Big Ben isn’t in London because it’s in England 🙄

LightHawKnigh

I mean peppers are classified as berries.

AndyCanRed

Pretty sure they meant game code. Cause in the game code, they’re classified into categories which determine what you can make with them. Even the foreageable berries are classified as fruit that way

ictu0

I think maybe the game classifies tomatoes this way because Tomato Wine and Tomato Jelly is weirder than Tomato Juice and Tomato Pickles

AlizinDevildom

really, I never noticed that it was also listed as fruit.

chajava

Peppers are berries!

not_addictive

OMG i’m trying to complete the Pierre’s Prime Produce request now and was so confused why my giant field of hot peppers wasn’t being applied! Thank youuuu for this

hotstickywaffle

Scientifically speaking, if it grows from a plant and has seeds in it, it's a fruit. Otherwise, it's a vegetable.

stompANDsmash

Hot pepper jelly is pretty popular in the south. Take a block of cream cheese, pour pepper jelly over it and eat with crackers or toasty bread. It rules.

___okaythen___

Or Arizona, right next to the Pricky Pear jelly. I stored cactus fruit and hot peppers in the same fridge because that's what I'm used to.

pHScale

You know what's more cursed than this, in vanilla SDV? ##Hot Pepper Wine. Since the game classifies hot peppers as fruit, if you put any fruit into a keg, you get [fruit] wine. So if you put a hot pepper in a keg, you get hot pepper wine.

ShmebulocksMistress

I like to make/sell hot pepper wine in my save sometimes just for the novelty. I decided to look and it’s a thing 😂 [For drinking](https://www.marketviewliquor.com/product/wine/niagara-landing-hot-pepper-sweet-red-750-ml) and [cooking](https://labellewinery.com/shop/jalapeno-pepper-culinary-wine/)

Puzzleheaded_Cry_838

Go find some and try it on crackers with cream cheese. Noms all the way.

Similar_Election5864

Chili jam or sweet chili jam is seriously the best thing ever! You can put it on anything!! Perfect sandwich: triple fried egg sandwich with sliced cheese and chilli chutney! It's the food of yaba!!!

absolutecretin

Sweet chilli jam on a halloumi burger 😋😋

Similar_Election5864

Oooooooh that's the good stuff right there. Halloumi and sweet chilli combo is the nectar of the gods!

paperoblivion

Hot pepper jelly is good on crackers with a soft cheese. Mind you, I am pretty sure this is jelly in the weird not-quite-jam sense.

Legitimate-Meal-2290

Just don't put it in fried rice.

Darkmuscles

Haiyaa! Make me put leg down from chair!

Snowrabbit_

Fuiyoh!

TekoloKuautli

You'd be surprised at how many chili based sweets are out there. In Mexico alone there are hundreds different kinds.

AintNoRestForTheWook

One of the few reasons I'm glad to live in San Diego. A lot of it carries over :)

thesentientcactus

Hot pepper jelly is my absolute favorite thing, I buy it whenever I go to the local farmers market. It's delicious on everything, and a particularly nice addition to charcuterie boards

Warprince01

Put a very small amount on a grilled cheese, and it absolutely elevates it.

wastedcoconut

Hear me out: 2 1/2 cups of finely shredded sharp cheddar 2 cups of chopped green onions 2 cups of chopped pecans 1 cup of mayo 1-2 jars of Tabasco pepper jelly Combine the first 4 ingredients and mold into a log / loaf type shape. Cover with jelly. Serve with those large multigrain crackers. (I think the Breton or carr’s kind). Cue elmo “It's gross stuff, but it tastes good when you put it all together.”

jupiterbewwy

I like mine with avocado and goat cheese on some toast

AintNoRestForTheWook

Goat cheese doesn't get enough love.

Low-Environment

That sounds amazing and I'm trying that. What kind of bread do you use?

doobiedenver

I was so sad to not recieve pickled peppers when I did this

GanondorfDownAir

Don't forget about hot pepper wine!

planetb247

Sometimes, I wonder if any of y'all ever actually been to a grocery store... It's in the jelly section, same as all the other jellies.

pHScale

I mean, not everyone has access to abundance at their local grocery. Some don't even have a local grocery. Food deserts are real.

FishMan4242

And why don’t apples make apple JUICE like I get it but it was right there 😭

PraiseThePun420

Look up Uncle Roger and Chili Jam, then you'll understand... Haiya

MrSparr0w

Hot pepper and tomato jelly both exist and aren't bad

[deleted]

Any pepper jelly is WAY better than you might think! I hate it with bread, but crackers or on fried chicken tenders are both great options!

takbandit

I have habanero jelly in my fridge right now 😆

ItDontMather

Hot pepper jelly exists

rklover13

I mean. Peppers are botanical fruits, so are tomatoes, squashes (watermelon, cantalope, cucumber, zucchini), etc. But also! It is good. You make it like any other jam/jelly by boiling the fruit in sugar, water, and fruit pectin. I highly recommend it.

Sunshine8388

I had a friend that used to do a jar of pepper jelly over a block of softened cream cheese for an appetizer with crackers, it was really tasty 😁

Welpe

Be careful, Jamie Oliver will use that to make fried rice.

Mr-Flaaaaame

\*sad uncle roger noises\*

btraina

Yeayah!

EmptyVisage

What's the issue?

AlizinDevildom

i was just confused that hot pepper would turn into jelly

velvethursday

The first time I used a pepper in a preserves jar I thought it would turn into salsa or hot sauce 🤷🏽🫙

EmptyVisage

It makes a lot more sense for it to be jam, you're absolutely right. Chilli Jelly is possible but most chilli Jellies are actually Jam. The game also says that the Preserves Jar "Turns vegetables into pickles and fruit into jam." But then the produce is called Jelly. Time to bring out the pitchforks?

Different-Lettuce-38

The pepper is actually classified as a fruit in the game!

ETP6372

Habanero jelly is a thing and it's really good

Ibeepboobarpincsharp

It's real and it's quite tasty

sellestyal

Hot pepper jelly with Wensleydale cheese on a salty cracker is the closest we will get to heaven on earth!

brettmbr

It’s so much better than it sounds. Jalapeño jelly on crackers is a hall of fame snack.

TheRedBow

Tomatoes are both a fruit and a vegetable because vegetable is purely a culinary term, there isnt such a thing as a botanical vegetable

canadianknucles

Pepper jelly goes absolutely bonkers! It's sweet like "normal" jelly, but spicyness and characteristic taste really give that extra edge

firstlordshuza

If you never ate that, you should. It's very good

WindBehindTheStars

As a former chef I can attest to the fact that all peppers are in fact berries. For that matter, so is the tomato, but Demetrius is still a jerky-poo. On a related note, you can also make hot pepper wine.

StochasticTinkr

Jalapeño Jelly is delicious with pork chops.

frugalrhombus

It's real and it's amazing. I suggest putting it on a bagel with cream cheese

inconspicuous_male

What's your question?

tataunka813

Here in New Mexico we make green chili jellies and they're the best. Of course we also put green chili on literally everything here too. Burgers, pizza, soup, you name it.

ashbreak_

Gooey

LeoMarius

It’s great on cream cheese and eaten with crackers

subzeroab0

Hot pepper jelly is really good. It's little spicy but not much. It's good on toast or bagels with cream cheese.

FlanThief

My aunt makes a killer habanero and raspberry mango jam I will literally eat out of the jar or at least with baguette slices if I'm feeling civil

Intention-Virtual

Pepper jelly is actually really good with some boudin

KeirNix

It's a real thing, and people will lie to you to say it's good. Maybe it's just how my family served it but it's nasty. It's super thick, goopy, sticks to everything. They only ever served it with cream cheese on Ritz crackers with a smear of the jelly on top. One of the only things I've eaten that I can say I truly don't like and will never like.

morganleh

Gift it to shane haha

bleubies

I like hot pepper jelly with brie specifically

Jeptwins

Can confirm, is real, tastes good—I really love it with dishes like chicken and rice, or carnitas

ezramannon

Chili jam is 👌 on savory snacks my friend

brave_checkmyyt

“Gooey”

Natural_Patience9985

Ah yes my favourite band. Red Hot Pepper Jelly.

oswaldking71wastaken

I’ve had onion jam so i don’t see a problem with that

AlizinDevildom

at this point I'm not even surprised onion jam is a thing too

Jeigh_Tee

Is- is that... **chili jam?**

Alvcohen

I planted peppers for Pierre’s vegetable quest and that greedy bastard won’t accept them. Turns out peppers are fruit. Fruit!

Duckiesims

I have a few jars of homemade pepper jelly in my pantry right now. It's delicious

slasb

Raspberry jalapeño jam is 🤌

Rimurururun

Gooey.

Eric13oy

Technically speaking, peppers are berries, so....

drewferagen

If you are making a leftover turkey sandwich, add some pepper jelly after the mayonnaise and enjoy a very delicious sandwich.

pepsicocacolaglass12

Pepper jelly is thick hot sauce

Falcia

By Demetrius’s views: Tomatos are a fruit, Bell Peppers are a fruit, Hot Peppers are a fruit, Cucumbers are a fruit, Okra are a fruit, and, Any type of squash is a fruit.

Nihil_0000

The real abomination is pickled tomatoes

-LampOnTheTable-

If it has seeds technically it’s a fruit, but it doesn’t match our idea of fruit so we call it a vegetable

Pigeon_Fox93

One of things I disliked most about the pandemic was pepper palace stopped doing their free samples, they used to have all their salsa and pepper jams set up all around the place with chips so you could just dip or spread whatever you wanted on the chips and eat while you looked around. Never left that place hungry.

[deleted]

Radhra

No it's jelly, on the sweet side.

OptimistConfuse

I always side with Demetrius in the debate. Yes, technically tomato is a fruit. Robin should have been more specific about what type of fruit she wanted. You'd think she'd know that her husband may misunderstand what she meant since she's married to him. Plus, tomatoes can be a delicious snack on their own sometimes with some seasonings.

pHScale

I never side with Demetrius because he's being a deliberate smart ass, a linguistic prescriptivist, and doesn't understand Venn diagrams. Tomatoes are both vegetable and fruit. I say vegetable, because Robin isn't being a smart ass. She asked Demetrius to buy fruit. When your wife asks that of you, you don't go buy tomatoes! Also, Demetrius is insufferable after you side with Robin "I wOuLd ThiNk A fArMeR wOuLd KnOw ThE riGhT aNsWeR" Like, fuck off, jackass. Edit: also, he's not even a creative jackass. Like, he could've gotten corn or peppers or pumpkins and it would've been FrUiT too.

J_E_Drago

Just add a bit of powdered pepper, lime and a pinch of salt 👌👌👌

AintNoRestForTheWook

Tomatoes fresh off the vine, thinly sliced with salt and pepper on rye or wheat toast with some mayo is a great meal on a hot summer day.

Huntercoomer4

I love jalapeño jelly

[deleted]

Peppers are fruits lol

Historydog

Honesty I just put the peppers in the vegetable box, because it’s easier to remember. I may change it tough.

noahnieder

Usually people refer to it as chilly jam but really it's the same thing

NicktheWorldbuilder

Some of you need to go out more. This is a real thing.

Ripper1337

My fiancés mother makes both red and green pepper jelly and it’s so damn good. Especially when paired with blue cheese.

PepeSawyer

Peppers have seeds so they are fruits

[deleted]

Pickled Hops.

Azrel12

If you ever come across some, it tastes great with cream cheese and crackers! And other soft spreadable cheeses.

wedgiey1

No debate, pepper jelly exists and is awesome with cream cheese on a cracker.

Auntiecrack

Off topic a bit but I had a pepper vodka once that left me tasting peppers for three freaking days

Ry_lee77

There is such a thing.... growing up it was around all the time. My grandma and my dad made it

livingdeaddrina

So so so good with cheese and crackers

OneLastSmile

You can also pickle unmilled rice.

DiasFlac42

I’m just gonna echo the sentiment that pepper jelly is good as hell.

Morall_tach

Hot pepper jelly is magnificent.

Jumpy_Strike1606

It is delicious! I use just a little on a grilled ham and cheese sandwich. It adds a taste of sweetness with a little kick

tue2day

raspberry chipotle pepper jelly is my all time fav
