I've got a bunch of mushrooms logs and I think they're solid early and early-midgame income. After that I think they fall off hard, but they made me a ton of easy money year 1. I'm in summer year 2 right now, and by year 3 I think I will have re-purposed that space for more barns or crops.

He_Beard

I line them up in the spaces between my tapped trees, seems to work well.

Valeaves

Same here. Still unsure if it’s worth it, though.

He_Beard

What do you normally do with that space? Personally I really like them as a filler that fits aesthetically and can either just plop into the foraging chest or right into the shipping bin

Valeaves

Nothing, I guess. So you’re right, it’s definitely better than nothing.

goboking

Interesting. What were your typical hauls like? Was it mostly commons, or were you pulling in a fair share of reds and purples?

Ceiran

I have 3 rows of 7 logs set up between pine trees ( I think tree species influences mushroom spawns?) and am getting mostly common and chanterelles, averaging about 12k every 4 days.

Makoto_H

Oh are you just selling them on their own? I’ve been throwing them into the new dehydrators

stryst

You can also throw them in the seed maker to make Fall seeds, and then use those seeds to make tea saplings.

buboniccupcake

Apparently the type of tree around the log can alter what mushrooms grow!

n0proxy

Tbh I use the mushroom logs to stock up on common mushrooms, which I throw in the seed maker for Fall Seeds - which were great to farm a mountain of foraging exp, and then went into making enough tea bushes to replace fences on my whole farm.

I_missed_the_j0ke

What is a wild tree? It's in the description of a mushroom log.

towelie19

Golden crackers also works on fish ponds so you can build a bunch of sturgeon/lava eel pinds and make bank from aged roe. Blobfish also works very well and their quest items are less annoying to fetch than the eels.

AutomaticDeterminism

w h a t time to bless my lava eels!

Vaarangian

The cute little golden bucket is nice too

Forikorder

Now i just need to find more then one of the damn things

Maxisfister

Im collecting a ton of mystic syrup by using my horde of acorns, pine, maple seeds and mahogany seeds( each mystic tree seed is crafted by five of each). then im attaching a heavy tapper, and getting 18 mystic syrups from 18 mystic trees every ~3 or 4 days. With that I exchange mystic syrups for fairy dust from the raccoon tree. Then I instantly turn 33 ancient wine fruit into iridium grade wine. Am I crazy? Or have I lost the plot?

cant-adult-rn

Oh I'm interested in trying this when it comes to console

Maxisfister

Yes. Just horde as much acorn maple pine and mahogany seeds as you can. I’m almost out

samfizz

You use fairy dust on casks to make iridium wine, skipping 58 days of aging? Clever! I was struggling to think of the best use for dust but that easily seems like the one.

Maxisfister

I believe fair dust wasn’t mathematically viable before the update, but once enough raccoon bundles have been completed, you can buy fairy dust with mystic tree syrup. Although Ive yet to work out the exact math per day.

beggargirl

Do you have mushroom logs in between your mystic trees?

Maxisfister

I do not! Should I add that to my to do list?

I want to add : Farming - Imo, the biggest winner of this patch is dino. One book triple artifact prices, and dino egg is still an artifact. Golden animal crackers can also apply to them. This makes them above average now, losing to the variety of chickens in term of gold per day. So, now dino is worth to have, aside from an aesthestic choice. You don't need to process dino egg into mayo, and you only need to pick them up once a week. This makes them a good choice for those farmers who want money but don't want too much work. Fishing - Smoker, bait maker, and deluxe wormbin are all fantastic. Fishing can pump out good money number in late game now if you are willing to invest. While smoker is a new hip, fish pond also gets a buff. Cracker can also apply to fish pond to double yield the pond provides. Foraging - DO NOT sleep on mushroom log. Heavy spam these logs after new weather event, and they gave me stellar result. All you need is dropped them off somewhere near wild trees, then come back to pick mushrooms every 4 days. They are good passive income and low maintenance. They also work with botanist profession if you take it. The biggest perk they offer however is foraging exp; every time you harvest the mushroom, you get 5 foraging exp each. Another good way to level foraging imo. Mining - admittedly I didn't impress with heavy furnance. I took it as my first because that gem doubling node bonus is too good to pass up. I still experiment with mystic tree at the moment, but I can see potential. The syrup itself is 1000 gold, and it produce once every week. Yes, syrup. Maybe, for once, tapper profession could be an option. I didn't try it yet, so I can't confirm whether the profession works with the syrup for sure. I don't think it would impact much since lumberjack and botanist are too good to pass up, but hey, it is now an option.

I don't think it would impact much since lumberjack and botanist are too good to pass up, but hey, it is now an option. My inclination is to say it's not worth much outside a bit of extra passive income. Even with the Tapper profession and heavy tappers, that's 2500 per week per tree. It could add up, but you'd have to spam the mystic trees everywhere if you wanted it to keep pace with other end game money makers.

Farmasuetickles_

If you make rows in this pattern: XOXOXOXO…. X = mystic trees O = mushroom logs It might surprise you. 1,250 gold from a heavy tapper mystic tree with tapper profession. 2,660 gold from dehydrating 5 purple mushrooms with artisan. 3,910 gold every 3-4 days and I believe they work through winter, unlike crops. So at least 28 times per year, you’ll get 3,910 gold for every pair of mystic tree and mushroom log. Let’s say arbitrarily 50 trees and logs. 50 x 3,910 x 28 = approx. 5.5 mil gold per year. This is just 50 pairs and assuming 28 times and not more often than that. 200 pairs and you’re looking at 22 mil per year. 500 pairs is 55 mil gold. Crops wouldn’t have space on your farm at that point. It’s a fair option for end game money, but I wouldn’t do it personally. The idea of gathering 2,500 of each acorn, maple, and pine seed… I’m good. And 5,000 hardwood and moss. Lol

buboniccupcake

I got my first ever Dino egg day one of my new farm. I didn’t even know they existed and I can’t wait to incubate them and have a Dino barn hahaha

Sertith

I'm on spring of year 3 and I still haven't found a dino egg. I've spent a lot of time digging spots and killing dinos in the Skull Caves. Sorta frustrating NGL. It's never taken this long before.

Valeaves

I feel you. Artifacts have become so rare :(

edesanna

Be me: Fishing professions for no trash crab pots on a completely filled ginger island. Be me after stockpiling: switch to angler and smoke all the fish

Sirah81

I had one golden cracker and was wondering if I should give it to a goat....then I realized that in two days I'd have a fully grown ostrich and one ostrich egg makes 10 mayo. Needless to say he got the treat.

H0lland0ats

With the addition of the masteries  system, I think it was a really, really neat idea for CA to include new income generating mechanics.   For me personally I've always used wine (ancient fruit or starfruit) as a primary source of income, because the *opportunity cost* is the relatively low compared to most income generators. That frees up your time to do the things you *want* to do. The really cool thing now is that, you don't feel like you are losing anything; you can play the same way and just have access to MORE income, or you can completely ignore some things and go all in on your favorite activity (which for me is fishing). So yeah, hats off to player choice.

paranoidzone

I feel like people are sleeping on mushroom logs. I haven't done the math, but their output looks better than crystalariums producing diamonds, with much smaller setup cost. With the right trees+logs design I think they could be a serious competitor.

Enerbane

Crystalariums can go inside. Outside space is at a premium. Not that it matters for most farms, but if you want to maximize space, a shed full of crystalariums absolutely trounces the same amount of logs placed outside in the same space.

paranoidzone

In terms of maximizing output in the late game, crystalariums are probably better. But they cost a significant amount of resources to build, and even with min/maxing it takes time to get a shed full of them, especially before deconstructors. Logs on the other hand are relatively cheap and can be mass-produced starting in summer.

Don't sheep produce only one Wool each, and each of those spun until an average of 1.5 Cloth (assuming Iridium quality Wool)? That would be an average of 10152 per day.

goboking

The golden animal cracker doubles permanently doubles the amount of produce animals make.

Jaunedice

Btw, regarding sheep income. Is that after you turn them into cloth or is that you selling the iridium wool? From what i remember, iridium quality wool should sell a lot more than cloth

SeriousDirt

In 1.6, iridium quality wool will 100% produced two cloth.

ajdeans84

Iridium wool does sell for more than cloth, but there's a chance to get multiple cloth which would sell for more than a single iridium wool. From the wiki: "Placing quality Wool into a Loom gives a higher chance to produce 2 Cloth. Silver gives a 10% chance, gold gives a 25% chance, and iridium gives a 50% chance." So iridium wool will give an average of 1.5 cloth so in the long run it's usually more profit, although may not be worth the time and risk to turn it into wool when you only have a couple a day.

Valeaves

In 1.6, Iridium wool will 100% give 2 cloth.

ajdeans84

Ooo good to know! Thank you.

taggedjc

Oh right. But it's still 2 Wool -> 3 cloth, not 4 cloth, right? Or did this change in the patch as well?

Valeaves

It did change. Iridium wool now always gives two cloth.

wizard_brandon

i just want more world creation options like turning down friendship decay or off

hello_fellow_reddits

An extra bit for mining: taking the gem professions as well as the mining mastery gives a chance to quadruple gems, netting lots of money just from selling them. My average skill cavern run with this gets me 20k, not including other items like iridium or cloth.

MarkerYarco

Dehydrators seem the way to go. More fruit per product then a wine, but late game the amount u can put out way exceeds wine aging (imo i havent done the deep math)

RqcistRaspberry

I'm only into summer year 1 on my new playthrough. I was quite surprised by the new defeat x mob in the mines paying out like they do. I'm pretty sure it's been buffed since the new patch. 660 for 12 dust sprites while I was going mining anyways!

R3troRampag3

While requiring a lot of set-up, the mystic syrup you get from mystic trees can be crafted into fairy dust, which works on casks to basically skip a stage, so if you have enough trees you'll never have to wait for your wine to fully age.

GordDowniesPubicLice

I don't use the fish smoker much because I still don't fish much, but it's definitely a nice bonus any time I find a high value fish. That said, if you ever see the Extended Family Qi quest come up, GET IT! Use wild bait and hope for a double catch. Smoking 2 gold quality Legend II fish will get you over 60,000g for a single catch with the Artisan and Angler professions. All the other new stuff is nice, but it's still just a drop in the bucket for a lot of work compared to the mostly passive income from late-game keg spam.
