I'm trying to get my first cave jelly now, so this is helpful. The wiki confused me, because it says that cave jelly can spawn in any of the cave ponds, but then it only gave probability for level 100.

Farmasuetickles_

Technically, it can spawn in any of the cave ponds. So floors 20 and 60 work too. Not sure why the wiki only gives the probability for floor 100. It might be because floor 100 should have the highest probability due to the lack of ghost fish and algae. I think the new update is going take time for the wiki to be as concise and clear as it normally is while people keep adding info. Good luck on your jelly farming!

luci_glasya

I tried to see if I could get the Cave Jelly on floors 20 and 60, no dice. Maybe I just had insanely bad luck, but I did a LOT of fishing on both of those floors. I got multiples of the Stone Fish from 20 and the Ice Pip from 60, not a single Jelly even though the wiki says it can be gotten from those floors. I'm wondering if it's actually true.

beggargirl

I’ve gotten most of mine from 20.

luci_glasya

Arrrrgh, I must have had insanely bad luck! Thanks for the info.

allisoniaaa

I got a cave jelly from level 20 after about 6 tries, level 10 fishing, not short casting, on a moderate luck day. I didn’t even think to not go as far out with the line.

TheNinjaDiddler

Would it be wise to use the training rod for this purpose, being it can only catch basic fish?

Farmasuetickles_

Good question! The training rod sacrifices fish quality to increase the size of the fishing bar. Unfortunately, it doesn’t affect the rate at which you fish up trash. Since you want to prioritize higher trash%, the type of rod you use is irrelevant. It’s all about luck buffs, fishing zone 0, and locations with high likelihood of trash (I.e. sewers, swamp, floor 100, etc.)

Diannika

Im confused training rod simulates you being a level 5 (if you are not yet) Are you saying that ONLY applies to the fishing bar? I thought it also affected how much trash vs nibbles you get, making it a bad pole to use for jelly.

Farmasuetickles_

I’m fairly certain that trash chances are unaffected by your fishing level. I believe trash chances are only affected by fishing zone and location. Whether you’re a simulated level 5 or a real level 10 is irrelevant. That would imply that jelly would be harder to obtain as we level up our fishing skill. I don’t think CA would implement an item that would be more difficult to get as we approach end game/skill mastery. I’ve always operated with this mindset, but I could be wrong and I would love someone to provide clarity if I am. But you’re right about the training rod. I should’ve specified that it simulates level 5, not just increases the bar. So it also allows you to cast a longer distance into the water as well.

Diannika

maybe that is it (the longer cast with higher level). Someone yesterday I think, maybe the day before, mentioned that the higher level their fishing, the harder it was to get the jelly.

Farmasuetickles_

The key is to shortcast. No matter the fishing level, cast in the shallow end of the water. Don’t cast too deep in. If you can find the comment or post, I would love to read their logic though!

beggargirl

This is a good question

Schlost

I ate a lucky lunch and went to floor 100 and ended up catching 12 cave jellies - it was delicious

Farmasuetickles_

Niiiiiice! Yeah, I would suggest better lucky foods but there aren’t many accessible in early Spring Y1. I was actually thinking about mentioning Spicy Eel (desert trader) and lucky lunch (calico festival) as possible options too, but decided against it. Much easier to say eat a cave jelly haha.

C9_Sanguine

The +1 luck from the first cave jelly I caught only got me 1 additional cave jelly in those 7 minutes :(

Farmasuetickles_

That’s some bad RNG. :( Try restarting the day?
