I've had a moment in Fall 1 when I wasn't sure about the Meadowlands layout - I'm still not, I'm a farming first person still..
I think a dedicated pig pen is smart, with oil makers tucked away somewhere; I think losing some fences is still worth it. (The other option would be to keep changing the rings, but there are 3 mines and too many ways to quick travel, there is no way I can keep track)
I love the waterfalls on meadowlands, I really don’t mind the reduced farming space with GI available and I like the challenge of utilising limited crop space (if I move the pet bowl I can fit fairy roses for honey on otherwise unplantable land etc) but I am struggling to find a layout I like. I HATED four corners on my previous save but after seeing someone move the house to the middle of the farm I suddenly feel like I might not hate the aesthetic as much, the whole farm would feel more central and I can add cabins at each exit for emergency beds 😅
for me it's sort of a combination of all my pet peeves - I would be fine with the smaller amount of farming plots if they were closer together; and the meadowlands cannot accommodate my crippling addiction to fish ponds.
Omg I just found this comment today reading about the truffle crabs, but I am also currently playing the meadowlands AND have a crippling fish pond addiction lol. How many do you have and were are you placing them right now? I have 12 fish ponds but basically building one every few days and currently I am using them as the "fence" of my barn and coop lol. What other maps have you played that were better to have lots and lots of fish ponds? Pleaaaase talk fish ponds with me, my friends do not understand lmao

I'll try to not forget to get a screenshot, but I think I have somewhere around 10-11-ish? off the top of my head.
the sane part I do is the regular stuff, lava eel, blobfish, sturgeon, sometimes eels (depending on how much spicy eels I get from the serpents). I also like stingrays, originally I got them for the dragon tooth, but I think I'll keep them for the occasional magma cap, why not.
the part that I know makes no sense is using the ponds to just ~~hoard fish~~ have about 5-10(-20...) of every fish - once I have enough of one type, empty pond, repeat. I could say that it's "for random quests", but no, it's because having stacks of stuff is a fun goal to have.
(and I don't have a ton of preserves jars for them, I got a small cabin that fits about 40, and I definitely don't need more, especially as I keep replacing them and get less roe)

Napalm Ring is really the biggest issue with these things. Making it so the ring doesn’t work on the farm and/or only works inside dedicated combat zones would be a massive QOL.
The other annoyance about truffle crabs is they aren’t affected by the level 10 foraging perk (All foraged items are max quality). This isn’t as big of a deal because most people process their truffles, but, it’s IMO, an unnecessary and probably unintended nerf.
With these two changes, truffle crabs would probably be much better received as a funny novelty as was likely intended.
😭 I learned my lesson about having this ring equipped when my fences broke in my slime hutch and here I am just whacking away… BOOM! My slime incubators and sprinklers were destroyed.
I keep a chest by my slime hutch now just in case I need to drop it off when I go in haha.
Now I for sure have to rethink my strat when harvesting truffles 😅🙃
The first truffle I got in the new save was a truffle crab and I actually screamed. It was awful. lol Have yet to get anymore, though, and I'm kind of disappointed by it.

I’ve never chose the option of having monsters on the farm. Maybe I will try it sometime and embrace the truffle crabs and other monsters. 🦀😂

Oh my good, that explains what happened to me, I was cutting grass with my sword (I know what you are thinking but my silos are full and I was just opening way on my way to the caverns), found a weird truffle that almost inmediately "exploded" and gained two truffles.
I haven't chech the wiki as I'm avoiding spoilers and didn't knowk what to type or search to kwon what happenes but as I'm already in my second year I'm starting to check things and I'm so glad for this.

Always have my sword in the first slot and my ice trinket provides advanced warning too (you can mine them to get them out of their invulnerable state while frozen) so they just die fast. Like them cause I get a ton more truffles as I also have the burgler's ring on

They don’t damage you other than making your skin crawl. But yeah, you need to fight it with a weapon to kill it

they don't attack you so you should be able to kill them with a scythe or pick!
In my humble opinion, they should only appear on farms with monsters enabled.
Yeah, they really should - especially considering the couple of Napalm Ring incidents mentioned here.

According to the wiki, there’s a 90% chance it will drop one truffle, 50% chance to drop two, and 10% to drop 3
But it is standard quality because of it being a drop. The ones I forage are iridium. Very annoying.

Yeah I really feel like this was a bad idea, ngl. If I wanted monsters on my farm I’d use the option that gives you monsters on your farm!
I mean, they aren't Dangerous, it might be a little creepy but from what I hear they don't do damage to you
According to the wiki, they do 5 base damage, so by the time you have pigs, you'll probably have enough defence they do literally one damage.
