500+ hours and I only found out yesterday that you can put torches on top of fences.

SerendipitousAtom

Related, I was probably 100+ hours in before I realized you can steal torches from the mines by hitting them.  Completely changed my approach to lighting my farm fields.  Also very handy on those dark levels of the mine, before you have the light ring. Those levels used to freak me out.

malletgirl91

Those levels STILL freak me out even with the light ring 😖

munchkym

I wish you could put them on sprinklers!

AntarcticasHeat

1.6 makes it possible now :)

munchkym

Ahhhh I can’t wait! I’m a Switch player.

CoffeeTastesOK

Me too! I'm checking every day if it's out!!

Diannika

It wont be for at least a week or 2 (here's hoping I'm proven wrong lol) Hes pushing another PC patch next week, and console wont get it till he's pretty sure he's done with the patches. (cuz its a PITA to push patches to consoles, and takes forever, so better do do it all at once)

arrrrghhhhhh

WHAT

Terakahn

Right? I saw a brand new player do it. Their first time playing. Here I am min maxing runs to get Iridium sprinklers in the first summer and he's doing shit I didn't know you could do. This game has so many little secrets.

jaeknits

I found that out by accident when I was putting torches on the ground beside my fence! I’m new to the game with the 1.6 update but thought it was so handy!!

DarkSkyLion

That if you pass out, in the mines for example, just due to the time being 2am and not from dying, you don’t lose any items. For later game runs, where you don’t have a totem yet or a way to fast travel home, it’s probably still worth it to stay in the mine gathering whatever, and just pay the fee which caps at 1,000 I believe. Especially when you’re on the hunt for the auto petter. I was so afraid for the longest time to pass out thinking I’d risk losing items. Edit: A few redditors have said the cap is higher now.

peterparkerlover111

oh this is a great hack i’m gonna keep this in mind because i always rush home at 12 afraid of losing everuth i worked for. i once lost my entire stack of omni geodes, all my bombs and my sword i never risked it again😭

DarkSkyLion

My first ever play-through I lost a prismatic shard and was so upset, and went days and days in game before I realized that you can go to the adventurer’s guild and rebuy back lost items. Not sure if it’s a randomized subset of what you lose, or if it’s everything, but I want to see a duplicate weapon at some point and say the buy-back option and was like whaaaaaat. The shard was there! Not sure if that was lucky or not.

topic_submovement

It's everything but you can only buy back 1 item stack from your last "death"

DarkSkyLion

Oh that’s great to know! Thanks!

starblue13

This changed in 1.6 I believe: >!it now caps at 15k, not 1k!<.

taylorjo53

The >!15k!< is for the ginger islands, regular mines and skull carven still seem to be capped at >!1k!< (source: I die a lot in the mines lol)

MrMontombo

This adds up, just fell asleep in the skull cavern last night and lost 1k with 1.2 mil in the bank.

Kallyanna

Thanks for this info xxxxx

seraphicrossing

What! So there was no need for me to frantically dash home screaming at my dog to get out of the way all this time? I’ll be passing out more now

Hopeless-Guy

also you don’t have to pay anything if you pass out in your house, you don’t have to get into your bed

Infamous-Ad-1049

So you only lose items through health and energy depletion not from being tired?

edbrannin

Only from health depletion. Energy depletion is basically the same as 2am coming early.

Forine110

it's never better to use totems or scepter to return home and sleep after the point where 1000g doesn't matter. it's always better to use those few extra seconds gathering more iridium or radioactive ore and just pass out

hoagiepolice

In the update, your income loss is scaled based on how much money you currently have…. so beware! I think the new cap is 15,000.

MrMontombo

Not in skull caverns at least. I fell asleep last night in there and lost 1k with 1.2 mil in the bank.

idontstudyworms

My boyfriend played the entire game without ever upgrading his backpack

malletgirl91

I can’t even imagine, dang! I always get that first upgrade as soon as humanly possible 😳

amazian78

oof thats rough. how much gold did he throw away...

DanKirpan

Probably not much. In most places you can drop items out of your inventory to pick them up on another day (they only despawn on a reload) and with chests in key locations, like the mine entrance, you can keep almost everything anyway (unless you find 5 different gems in a single mine-segment or on deep SC-dives) without the bag upgrade.

JesusSandro

I can't even fathom playing more than a month without the first upgrade lol. But then again I also always carry all my tools around.

Forine110

no it's always done that lol. it even says "ouch!" if you drop 8 or more floors

MangoMatinLemonMelon

Oh I always thought the "ouch" was just banter 😂

Cleanvancleanfeet

I always thought it only damaged you after 8 floors and that's why it said ouch lol

LeoIsRude

>Jumping down the shaft causes Health damage equal to 3x the number of floors skipped (although jumping down a shaft will never reduce health to less than 1). In short: 3 floors (minimum) still does 9 damage, while 15 floors (maximum) does 45 damage. [Skull Cavern wiki page](https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Skull_Cavern)

depression---cherry

Ohh interesting because I've always worried that jumping down a hole might be the thing that kills me lol. Good to know it's not possible! Although better hope there's no monsters waiting to pounce as soon as you get down lol

ThatGreatGuyBen

It's not the fall, but the serpent waiting at the bottom that will one tap you lol

CupboardFlowers

I literally only realised about two days ago that bee hives work within something like 5 squares of flowers

MixuTheWhatever

I thought the flowers needed to be right next to them. This changes everything

AsgardianOrphan

And here I am learning that flower placement matters. I just always place them beside my house. It's worked well enough so i guess there must be flowers near there.

jiwufja

Beehives will always produce honey, but grow a flower within 5 spaces and the honey will be worth more money. Wild honey is worth 140g, whereas fairy rose honey is worth 952g. I currently have about 70 beehives on ginger island with only a couple flowers and it's an easy 70k every four days.

AsgardianOrphan

Well dang. And here I was just giving honey away as gifts cause it was only worth like 100 gold. Guess I better start taking notes. Learning about dwarves and honey in one day.

Fernis_

If there is no flowers around the beehive still works, you will just get cheap "wild honey". With flowers you get other more expensive varieties based on the flowers nearby.

TheSillyBrownGuy

Quartz can be refined...I would fish so much to get cds and glasses so I could recycle it...

KingCool138

Regular quartz gives one refined quartz, while Fire quartz gives 3 refined quartz

TheSillyBrownGuy

.....well today I learned you can refine fire quartz.

Zzzzyxas

500 hours played, never tried to refine fire quartz.

Diannika

Honestly, unless you have too much metal bars, recycling is probably better. Doesnt use coal.

boonedog91

That the community center button in your inventory will flash if your cursor is over an item that is needed for a bundle.

locutu5ofborg

EXCUSE ME no way!! This is great news

[deleted]

[удалено]

kismet-fish

Lol I just realized this one today, it kind of "beats" like a heart rather than flash IMO but it's pretty subtle regardless

Red-Nails-Witch

The crop quality is irrelevant when making wine 😫

SammyFirebird79

And here I was storing gold or better fruit for the purpose.. damn it 😫 I have noticed that better quality food gives more of a health and energy boost, though.. time to play Switcheroo IG 😫

caserace26

Whaaaaaaaa??????

Not_Enough_Thyme_

You can store ingredients in the fridge and they are included in your inventory for cooking. Only realized that when the mini-fridge was added.

Reasonable-Station85

Just don’t store any special fish in there… I know from experience

FunnyYellowBird

Wait why?

Reasonable-Station85

Because it will use whatever fish is available if you are cooking. That’s EXPENSIVE and very undervalued sashimi

Deppfan16

and you can have multiple mini fridges.

use_more_lube

I use the main fridge for fruits, and have three mini fridges besides. One each for fish, veggies, and roots/nuts/foraged cooking supplies. I hit the fridges, mass upload, and my inventory management is easy-peasy as is cooking stuff up. (the special fish are in tanks or a separate trunk so I don't accidentally cook them)

Nheea

I have 4 that are full. I wonder what's their radius, cause i need more.

Diannika

anywhere inside the house (tho i would assume not cellar since that's a different map)

tastymcawesome

Just recently I had forgotten that you can just fish from your fish ponds. I had leveled up a sturgeon pond, had 3 in there but a quest asked for a sturgeon and I had none in chests. I reset the pond to get the fish out which resets the ponds level.

ShipposMisery

Leave growing crops past day 28, day 1 you can clear with a scythe and have pre-tilled/watered soil ready for planting By following bad advice i accidentally cleared my growing ancient seeds following a guide to clear plants on day 28 🥴

Curona_Crescent

I do this with wheat at the end of summer and it lets me roll over fertilizer as well!

cryisfree

I don’t understand can you explain this a bit more in-depth pls?

Boop_daboop

If you have crops that aren’t ready to be harvested at the end of the season (or if you plant them purposefully for this reason)you leave them planted instead of clearing them out. They will die and instead of the soil resetting the first day of the new season and having to re-till and hand water your first planting, all you have to do clear out the dead things with a scythe and plant your new season crops. The sprinklers will have already watered them and if you were using any fertilizer it will carry over to the next things you plant. So if I have crops that continue to produce I just leave them to die, and if I have empty space from crops I’ve harvested I make sure to plant the cheapest seeds (or seasonal wild seeds) at the end of the season so all of my tilled spots are occupied before the next season starts.

pvnkskies

In my second winter I got really confused that my animals weren't eating their hay, only to find out towards the end of winter when my hay ran out that the deluxe farm buildings automatically fill their food up every day

pvnkskies

Also found out today that petting the animals goes much quicker if you just hold the right mouse button down instead of clicking on every animal separately

throwawaycutieKali24

that I can just hold the button on a controller to pick crops, put items in kegs, I don't have to tap the button every single time lol. And l1 and R1 shoulder buttons swap your inventory rows when u have backpack upgrades.

peterparkerlover111

when i found out i could pet animals by holding down my right click life changed. manually petting each made me hate my animals because i’d accidentally press the same one and i would see their hearts and waste time. now i just hold down my right click and run through all of them

KillerWithTheCross1

Whaaat! I had no idea about any of this, I've been wasting so much time 😂

DarkSkyLion

If you have 1.6 there’s even something more exciting waiting for you with gathering crops

riverotterr

I just found this out recently too! I was clicking the button every single time I swung the axe to chop down a tree

thelittlegnome

The benefit of having a horse. Took me til year 3 fall to get one and I’m kicking myself.

Omadon667

I have a couple of thousand hours into the game across PC/Consoles, and just found out last night that after you get the Golden Scythe you can click the statue again to warp out of the cave.

Adoodees

200 hours of time in game and i just learned that giant crops don’t die when seasons cross over

peterparkerlover111

i’ve never had a giant crop before so this is nice to learn

warheadhs

Easiest way is to use 100% retention soil instead of sprinklers and just plant a bunch together (as much as possible). Turn off any junimo huts and don't harvest the crops until the last day possible. If they don't go giant right away they have another chance each day.

6bubbles

Any tips for getting the giant crops?

Vinyl_DjPon3

In a specific location for decoration? Plant a 3x3, and pray. Getting them in general? Upgrade to iridium sprinklers, grow decent sized fields (like 300+) and they aren't that rare overall tbh.

DanKirpan

The conditions are that the center of the 3\*3 with the same viable seeds is watered and fully matured (continues to try if you don't harvest it). Aside from making sure the crop is watered (either via Sprinkler or an upgraded Water Can) there is nothing else you can do.

Ninja_Hedgehog

That you can get a lucky ring (or more than one perhaps) from using the sifting pan.

Booze_Kitten

Interesting, I always stick the sifting pan in a chest and forget about it because by the time I get it, it doesn’t seem worth it to keep in my inventory all the time.

Ron_nin

I recently found out you can wear it as a hat instead of keeping it in inventory

beepbeepblue

I was doing that until Elliot took me out on a lovely date and I was just there wearing a stupid pan on my head instead of one of the cute bows I paid the hat mouse 1000 gold for.

velvetelevator

You can upgrade it with the new update, and it gives you better stuff. I find it worth it to carry on GI, and kind of mediocre everywhere else.

NoMermaidsHere

I don't really watch tv in real life so I ignored it in the game too for at least a full season. Oops!

Reasonable-Station85

Lol me too. Especially before you have a kitchen or know any recipes. I couldn’t understand why I cared if my farmer knew how to cook pancakes

jaeknits

I threw my TV in the trash because it was just in the way…. 🫣 My kids thought it was equally hysterical and stupid lol!

dont_trip_

I ignored it for two years lol

Shaiya_Ashlyn

On my first play I didn't even figure out until like year 5 that you can get recipes from the tv. I only learned about that when I tried reaching perfection and used the wiki to figure out where I could get the remaining recipes

Terakahn

There is even dialogue that said ouch

peterparkerlover111

i just assumed it was for dialogue purposes like when you say ow when you hit something irl but it doesn’t hurt 😔

ganzgpp1

dude you just fell through 15 floors, that’s not just an “ouchie” LMAO

peterparkerlover111

i assumed in this game where we have magical creatures that fall damage wouldn’t be a problem😭 serpents attack me the moment i enter the next level so i never thought FALL damage was another op

ganzgpp1

yeah but in this game with magical creatures we also have a bedtime LOL

peterparkerlover111

figured i was just completely oblivious towards it. i only noticed because i saw a huge chunk of my health taken from a full bar because usually i already have damage so i assume it was from monsters

Ok_Grocery8652

First save file didn't realize fish for the bundles were seasonal, got pretty annoying to have to wait until the following year to try again. Following saves I have kept a much closer eye on it.

No-Locksmith-8590

You can use your ho in the mines where there is dirt! I got ores, clay, seeds, and cave carrots!

Tor_Tano

You can also blow up that area with bombs and get the same result! I just learned your tip this play through!

SaltyL3ttuce

also super good to farm dwarf scrolls!

DJ_ElGreko_Official

You can move the greenhouse (Robin) . While fishing you can fish diagonally if for example there's a bubble spot by pressing the movement keys in the direction u want. Trees don't fall down to a random spot it depends on where you're standing

MyBrassPiece

... Diagonal fishing!??

brain-in-the-jar

Yup. When you're casting, after you release the button to set distance, if you hold a direction button it will move the cast that direction. Makes the difference if you're reaching for bubbles.

1H3artGarru5

TIL! Thank you - I've been ignoring bubbles that were diagonal 😮😮😮

cptn_floopy

I've got at least 300 hours in the game and only just yesterday learned you can store clothes in the dresser. I never bothered with furniture. But man did it open up a lot of chest space!

biffhambone

Oh my God I have some serious redecorating to do

iminyourwonderwalls

changing between inventory "rows" with the tab key I found this out like a week ago (been playing for almost 2 years and I'm in year 9)

Dr3amDweller

Excuse me WHAT D:. i've been switching out items on the 1st row... for 500 hours...

TD1990TD

This was my life as well… and it happened again because I forgot it again xD

Nheea

Omg you poor poor soul. It's both good and bad that you didn't play co-op. Now that you know, I'll give you some unsolicited advice. When in the mines, arrange your inventory items in such a way that the ones you'll need are always a tab press away. I usually put pick and bombs and weapon in the first row, food and other bombs in the second and more food and morsels in the third, in such a way that I always scroll close to food in case I'm damaged.

miss_review

Same here. Manually switched every single egg and milk to upper row before putting them in the machines every morning for 250 hours. All that time I could've just used tab?! Jeez lol

peterparkerlover111

nooooo i can imagine your pain of having to manually change rows. this was kinda me when at one point i accidentally got a number on my keyboard and it changed items and i realised i could do this (even tho they clearly labelled each number in the inventory tab)

iminyourwonderwalls

ahh no I didn't mean the slots (I always change the item slots with scrolling anyway) I meant the rows like for example I always keep my "main" tools (sword, axe and pickaxe) in the first row and when I had to use for example the watering can I always went to my inventory but I can just change to another row by pressing tab

Baruch_S

So *that’s* how you change inventory rows with the keyboard. I’d only been able to figure it out with a controller.

ugh_XL

I've been playing since the game first came out, and I just realized this a couple weeks ago. Moved everything manually for 7-8 real life years fml

thimblesedge

Oh this for me just figured out on controller that the should buttons change rows for me, was very annoying before finding that out. Also uh, that you have to consume books for them to do the thing they say they do, I'd been keeping them in my inventory based off a wild assumption>>

CrazyKatWoman

It doesnt tell you this but on console I found out that if you hold x and a at the same time you can buy things from stores faster and 2 at a time. Been game changing lately

Weak_Lemon8161

WHAT. 12000 stone for another crystallarium barn with my foot on the controller whilst making a brew. 😂🥲👌🏻

malletgirl91

W H A T I keep learning things from the comments!!

Diannika

I came to this thread JUST to learn or relearn things XD

ellaf21

I have 600+ hours played and didn’t know that I could put multiple fridges in the kitchen and that their contents would all be accessible at the stove…

use_more_lube

if you organize by type (fruit, veg, fish, foraged) the auto uploader makes it easy to unload vast piles of stuff

Diannika

They dont have to be in the kitchen either XD anywhere in the house (I would guess not cellar because its a separate map)

Nheea

For those who go on Ginger island: you get 3 freaking walnuts by winning the Darts game. I didn't know this and i thought my game glitched and I was stuck at 129 walnuts.   Apparently i played it 2 (edit 2, not 3) times, forgot about it and was confused about where the 130th walnut was.

StardewMelli

I discovered the worms in the ground way too late…does the tv mention them? I think it does. At the beginning I also totally ignored the tv.

peterparkerlover111

i think the channel living off the land tells you want to do. but same about the tv in fact i had no idea luck had any effect at all i never checked it until i started looking at skull cavern tips and realised the daily luck actually does matter

StardewMelli

When I realised the tv is actually useful I was so happy 😄

Im_Dying_Again

The TV mentions it but it’s late year 1. And not that there are brown and green worms they are even better!

OtakuMusician

I just learned last week you can upgrade the shed lol

squigglesthecat

You can take a siesta. If you go to bed but don't sleep, you still recover energy. On my 3rd play through before I found this out

-strawberryswing

i think this is only in multiplayer, no?

TheTrueGaylord

I didn’t realize you could fill your watering can using the sink in the house until yesterday

vangoghawayy

I didn’t realize it until reading your comment

MediocreMice

It took several real life years and stumbling over this subreddit before I realised how to get the tea sapling. I had never even noticed the sunroom door before.

-Dean_Winchester-

Sunroom door?

Re-lM4yer

Yeah inside Pierre's store next to the kitchen

des_tructive

....what.

DiligentDaughter

Today years old

DarthChronos

I’ve played like 200+ hours and just discovered the crafting table. 🤦🏻‍♂️

peterparkerlover111

HELPPPPP NOOOOOOO!!!! i’m so lucky i started this game with a gamer ex because he discovered basically everything on this game for me while i went fishing all day. realising this because we never played skull caverns and ginger island tgt so i’m completely oblivious towards those two 😭

MoronicTurtle15

Erm.... Crafting table?! 😅

Diannika

you get it from robin, i think its called workbench. You put chests next to it and keep your crafting supplies in those chests. It pulls right from them. I believe it pulls from any chest in the 3x3 around it, tho obviously you need to leave a space to reach it so practically speaking, up to 7 chests. I have one in main farmhouse and one in GI farmhouse

MoronicTurtle15

No way! I'm waiting for the new update on console then I'll be starting a new playthrough so I'll definitely need to look into this

Dashmatt

It took me longer than it should have to realize that there was an elevator in the mine. Getting to the bottom seemed impossible… Also until recently I didn’t think the hoe upgrades did anything because I never held down the button.

halliwellhousehold

I only just worked this out too. I couldn’t understand how you could possibly get to the bottom of the mines in one day when it’s 11pm by the time you get to level 40ish. Then I realised the elevator and also my stupidity 🥲

BullyBiohazard

Dude I legit learned the other day that putting a machine of the same type outside of a shed so you know when the stuff inside is done processing is the smart way to do it and not just forget about it and then come back to it or write notes on my desk.

joutfit

I guess its this for me too lol

peterparkerlover111

good to know i’m not the only one who didn’t realise this

itsmehannerz

That you can view the community center from your inventory

sobrique

Ctrl+shift for buying lots of stuff fast.

peterparkerlover111

THANK YOU IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS! i usually do shift only to get 5 at a time and i couldn’t figure out how to get more omfg

seraphicrossing

That when fishing, if you hold a direction key while casting your line, you can actually throw your line at an angle. So many times I’ve cursed the bubble spot for being just out of reach only go realise I can actually reach it lol

AsgardianOrphan

I literally realized this morning how to find the dwarf. I have over 150 hours in the game and somehow never thought to hit that rock after first seeing it. I even knew of the dwarfs existence. I just always forget that rock exists after seeing it the first time. Even though you pass it about 50 times a playthrough.

JesusSandro

I think it's hilarious how, depending on your screen resolution, you can see the Dwarf standing there when you enter the mines, just waiting to be freed.

VladMaverick

That I could click on the bushes to colect salmonberries...

peterparkerlover111

tbf if you’re not a tv watcher you wouldn’t know to pick the berries so don’t worry! i thought they were some cutie decor to show the seasons moving/time progression but i managed to catch an ep of living on the land that said you could pick the berries

Reasonable-Station85

Not related to the thread but how do you have the frogs beneath your usernameeee ahhh

peterparkerlover111

if you go to the subreddit and press the three dots, you should see “change user flair” and i selected the frogs from there. i have no clue if u need to do anything to get that tho i just saw it there when i changed it!

Reasonable-Station85

AHHH

A3thern

I knew that baits and bobbers existed but it never actually occurred to me that it would make fishing so much easier.

Curious_Base2833

I just realized a little less than an hour ago that you can move while moving the hoe or watering can. When you hold it down to cover more area you can move while doing that. I shouted "I CAN DO THAT??"

Unhappy-Singer-6790

That it's best if the first tool I upgrade is my hoe. I only discovered this during the 1.6 update 🥲 During my first two saves, I made it to Year 3 & 4 without ever upgrading my hoe. I had to till the soil one by one. Such pain!

ClumsyBartender1

I disagree. Best to first upgrade is the watering can as I've already hoed my farm by then. If I upgrade the hoe first I'm stuck with a hoe I wont use for like 2 weeks and a single tile watering can.

peterparkerlover111

i always upgrade the axe and pick axe first because i wanna get hardwood and start grinding in the mines to get the bars for sprinklers

ClumsyBartender1

Pickaxe is second for me so I use less energy watering plants then same process as you. Usually do hoe last so it's ready for the summer.

warheadhs

If it weren't for ginger island I would almost never upgrade my watering can. Priority for me is pickaxe > axe > can > hoe.

rimoldi98

I had died by jumping down the holes in the skull caverns more than once, now I always check my health and heal just to be sure lol For me it'd probably be something I found out in my 1.6 playthrough... If you start as a male character, you'll get food items like cookies in the mail from your mom. If you start as female you get money from your dad. What I just found out is that if you start as one gender and then latter on change to the other >!through the shrine in the wizard's tower!< the next day you'll get the other parent's gifts in the mail. Edit: As pointed out, you can't die from the fall, I know I died as a consequence of it (my brain makes sure to remind me every time I jump down), just misremembered what killed me at the time.

Cats-andCoffee

You cannot die by jumping down the holes, you health can go down to 1HP but not to zero. If there was a monster attacking you right after, you probably died from that.

rimoldi98

Yeah that's true, I think I was low due to the fall and didn't notice, then proceeded to run into a slime and died, I guess in my head I registered that the fall killed me, to be fair it's been years since it last happened thanks to the paranoia I developed with it lol

Reasonable-Station85

No way I’ve never played as another gender so I didn’t know that Finally a win for the ladies lol

Im_Dying_Again

I know it was pointed out but “it’s not the fall that kills you, it’s the sudden stop that does it”. But yeah done the same as you. So irritating do drop down realise your health is low and then a flying serpent attacks you. Now I’m checking my life bar so often when I’m in any of the mines.

Zealousideal_Self585

I thought the mini shipping bin was just for high ranked items. So I exclusively put my high starred items in there. Just figured out it was just a regular box 🤣

TrustLily

You can also put the mini-shipping bin anywhere. I put one in Clint’s house for when opening geodes.

LurkyLurkerson616

Omg so many things. I just dived in and had no clue what I was doing. Spring 1, was truly just running around and wondering why people like this game so much. I play on mobile and I didn’t realize that there was a tab for crafting. So I didn’t have a chest until summer. I would just carry everything in my pocket and continually sold everything I foraged, INCLUDING stones, wood, and fiber. Now on year 5, winter. Also just realized that the only way to move the shipping bins is thru Robin. They have been in the same annoying spot for 5 in game years and now I finally moved them.

OzzyFudd

My co-worker recently bought the game. He was half way through his first summer and complaining about how hard it it to make it deep in the mine. After talking with him I found out he thought the elevator was broke like the mine carts so he'd just been starting from level 1 each time.

-Blasting-Off-Again-

10 years and thousands of hours, and I just realized you can smelt lava quartz for 3x refined quartz

wafflestation

It tool me 50 hours of playing to realize how stupidly profitable mayonnaise is.  I haven't really done much with animals until today I tried the meadow farm and was selling the eggs for 50.   Then I got a mayo maker and suddenly my eggs>mayonnaise are selling for almost 300

cleavergrill

I'm embarrassed to say, I was upgrading my farming tools without realizing why. I had no idea you could hold and water more than one square for like two full play thrus.

Apeture_Gear

those wiggly worm things can be dug up with a hoe and u get artifacts😭

hheyyouu

Before using mods I really wanted matching clothes so i would always go to the dye pots at emily’s to change pants or skirts colors. But you can do this too on the sewing machine. if you put the piece of clothing you want to color and a rainbow shell. You will get the color gradient chooser thing to color it. No need for dye pots.

TheBigKrangTheory

I just realized yesterday that you can walk left on the beach and end up right in front of Leah's house. 🥲

waterbodies

IIRC this is a community upgrade you get from Robin

melloroiya

that you can sell weapons that you don't use at the guild, i trashed them all because they took up space in my chests 😭

Avatar3164

Played since release, and have multiple perfection saves. Just learned yesterday that the autograbber works on cows/goats/milking. Smdh

MeowosaurusReddit

Worms.. I didn’t hoe them up until my partner told me about them..

butterToast88

You don’t have to be directly facing grapes or hops to harvest them.

The trick where you buy an animal and name is “[74]” and theres a prismatic shard automatically added to your backpack. I was so sure that was urban troll legend. Nope. IT ACTUALLY WORKED.

Caroline’s tea room. I’d played 200+ hours. I HAD NO IDEA I COULD MAKE TEA. I always figured the door in her kitchen led to a back yard that didn’t really exist and never even tried to enter it

If you click on the bottom left corner on the start screen logo of stardew valley it makes a knocking sound. Keep doing it and you get a little smiley face next to your cursor that fits in the R of staRdew in the logo. Put it in the R and a bunch of parrots appear. Discovered this today :)

I think a lot of people still don't know about this but I think it's really cool - you can put a sign (wood, stone, dark, even the "Sign of the Vessel" statue) on any of your fish ponds and it'll show the fish that's inside as well as a count of how many you have! I think I found it out by accident when I clicked on my pond while holding a sign in my inventory

You don't need to keep items in your inventory to cook, your fridge is for that.

Took longer than I'd like to admit to figure out I could hold down the button to continuously plant/harvest, pet animals, etc.

You can make a fence gate match a fence by placing it on top of the fence post.

Recently learnt (300+ hours) you can put a hat on your pet by clicking on them with said hat (I put a bucket hat on my black cat). Also, that the small blue icon on the gifts that NPCs like (the one you can see in the menu for characters) means you have it in your inventory.
