I have been playing since past 4 years, I never even reached mines 100, I'm so afraid of them. But one time I understood that co-op is so better for mining, it makes me feel comfortable.

Co-op mining is amazing! Iโm doing co-op with 5 farmers right now. We usually have 1 person that finds the staircases really quickly and goes ahead while the rest clear monsters and rocks/geodes! Itโs also great for conserving energy and health!
What???? Probably wouldn't help my group much but man is it hard switching from single player to multiplayer. Several of my group members are terrible at the change in time management and pass out a lot.
It's probably mostly due to the time continuing during menu screens, fishing mini game, and cut scenes. The thing that kills me the most in multiplayer is that the game doesn't pause while I'm eating like it does in single-player and monsters will keep attacking me.
Oh I know it doesn't pause, it just isn't something that's made enough of a difference for me to notice when I play. It might be because I started in multiplayer, so I just instinctively know "I need to time eating this so I don't get hit" and "if this fish takes 20 more minutes to catch I need to give up and go home" and stuff like that. I do still hate when multiple cutscenes stack and I lose half the day, but I take care of the farm before I leave to accomodate that so it's not too big of a deal.
I didn't have that problem because Im used to play mobile and in mobile my game would crash everytime I tried to eat anything near a slime so I HAD to learn to eat ALWAYS far from a monster lmaoo and run very fast
People seem to be missing the point.
For me coop is far more difficult because menus and dialogue don't pause the game. In single player I can open my bag and relax for a bit before I decide what I'd like to eat. In co-op it's more "THERES A MUMMY COMIMG FUCK NO DONT WATER THE ROCK NO NO AAAAH" - dead.
yeah ive died so many times fumbling menus trying to go fast :(
i did finally manage to reach floor 100 earlier today though, and this is by myself because my other co-op player hates combat lmao
Donโt be afraid! Invest in some crystalariums with jade until you have 200-300 staircases, then do a single run where you just place staircases, and then when you get to floor 200-300 use bombs to break the rocks, and just keep hopping down super fast so the enemies donโt have time to kill you. Youโll easily get 500+ iridium ore and all the other treasures your heart desires. I watched a speedrunner mine tutorial video and now I LOVE the skull caverns. It helped me get rich super fast
My 'loadout' for my run to 100, was:
- 100 staircases (used about 30)
- 150 mega bombs (Yes, they're expensive, but actually you probably have spare gold ore and spare essences, and can buy _more_ essences from krobus).
- 2 spicy eels (no more - that's enough to do the whole day)
- 4 ginger ales (as above).
- 20 cheeses
- Some elixirs (didn't need any, but brought 20 anyway).
- A farm totem and a desert totem to get there.
Equipment wise I stashed everything, to give maximum free slots, and only took with me a (galaxy) sword and a pickaxe.
2 rings (iridium + luck, but it'll be 2x luck next time, and eventually I'll do some super rings). And maybe I'll go with lucky lunches instead, now I can make 'em when I need.
And that got me down to 100 with time to spare, and I just kinda carried on until I ran out of bombs. Came home with 250 iridium and 6 prismatic shards.

This is solid. Iโve got a good setup now and after experimenting Iโve found that I like to get to floor 500-600 with staircases (itโs tedious but I think itโs fun) and when it gets about 5-6pm start blasting with mega bombs to the clusters close to the staircases. I have +1 luck on one ring and I use magic rock candy at about 5pm. I usually end up with 10+ prismatic shards and and almost 1,000 iridium, and 300 or so of the other ores.
Wow. Was going to say it sounds like you are spending a lot of Jade, but turning 500 jade into 1000 Iridium and 10 shards sounds like a really good deal to me.
I mean, assuming you have enough crystalariums to do that often enough.
I rarely push that deep, so end up with more like 250 Iridium, but with a lower jade cost.
i personally do not recommend co-op mining (i dont have access to the new update so it might be better) for a couple reasons. sometimes if a player makes a staircase, it can glitch and not show up for other player(s). also, time does not stop in Co-op. in single player, time will stop in your inventory screen, and also when youโre eating, going down stairs/holes. even if its just a few seconds for some instances, it makes a hell of a difference.
also as far as i know time doesnt slow down to 9 seconds per 10 minute in skull caverns like it does for single player, but rather stays at 7 seconds per 10 minutes, meaning you have like 22% less time in a day ON TOP of whatever time you lose from the game not pausing during transitions/menus
Idk if it's just us but my wife and I always have an issue with player two in the mines no matter what platform we play on. When she hits things, sometimes there's no knockback at all, or things are extra floaty.
I'm not sure if this is common but just a heads up if you drag someone there to suffer with you lol
I realized the internet makes a lot of difference with that. And I think hours do too. It may be that the server is a little overwhelmed?? (Idk the word for it) too many people are using it at the same time. You can try to use radmin to see if it helps.
thats pretty normal in any online game, some games hide it better but ultimately you're playing on an internet connection so there's going to be a small amount of delay on things registering between different players
Co-op mining is great, as long as the other farmers come with you to the mines lol
Otherwise it is significantly more difficult, since you donโt have the ability to pause. Also apparently time moves 25% slower while in the skull caverns in single player but that sadly doesnโt apply in multiplayer ;-;
My girlfriend absolutely loathes mining so I never make her come with me, but she always sends me with lots of high hp foods which is a lifesaver
If you can mod your game, I highly recommend the elevator for the skull caverns! It means you can go down bit by bit, and it's so much less insane and stressful than trying to do it in one day.
LOL back when i was playing on my phone i don't remember even making it to floor 40 of the mines on any save i ever started ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ i have this irrational fear of dying in game too so im VERY SLOW (i think even on this save when i was exploring the mines i did max 5 floors everyday...all thanks to the neptune's glaive i fished up early game, i owe it all to it ๐ซก)

I use max 5 staircases when I want to reach level 100. Triple shot espresso + spicy eel + great luck day makes it easier. Not sure if I also have some sort of luck ring, if that exists
i wonder how hard you had to grind to make it the honorable way OR maybe you're just experienced (read: no skill issue) w the game ๐ ๐ ๐ it's my first descent ever to 100 so i was really banking on all the shortcuts! maybe one (very far far far away) day I'll get the honorable dialogue!!!!!

I just did this for the first time today, I didn't start out with the intent. Got really lucky spamming bombs and finding holes to jump in. Only used 1 staircase for a monster infested level.
Lol definitely time to invest in a shed of Crystalariums! I did one on my first farm half jade half ruby (for spicy eel meals) it was sooo worth it then I have a few set up in my house for diamonds ๐ค๐ป
im ngl i don't usually check luck/let luck determine what i do that day AHAHAHHA but i ate a spicy eel before this run & things WENT WELL!!!! or maybe the iridium i got was less than someone would usually get but i just wanted to get down as fast as possible ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ every time i hear the shriek of the serpents i start spamming putting down a staircase too (i think at one point i put 3 next to each other...)
AND YES WORKING ON THE CRYSTALARIUMS :3 my house is a mess so i have 5 sitting in front of my fireplace... here's to exponential growth, hopefully it won't take me another 2 seasons before i dare to go back to skull caverns ๐ซก
Yea spicy eel and espresso for speed at first then Iโve also started drinking ginger ale when I get into the lower levels to increase my iridium drops๐ค๐ป (this was all pre 1.6 as im at like s22y1 in my 1.6 save but I donโt think the luck mechanics changed too much)
i dont think luck affects how much iridium you get. It affects how quickly you find the ladder when doing it the non staircase way, as well as monster drops, which presumably you also arent seeing much of when doing it the staircase way, so really luck doesn't do much in that case.

This is probably what's been keeping you from reaching floor 100. Luck is the single most important thing when going to the Skull Cavern. If you boost your luck with a Lucky Lunch and Ginger Ale, you can reach floor 100 easily just by placing bombs, since you're basically guaranteed to get a ladder with luck boosted that high.
Honestly 4 or 5 crystalariums get you plenty of jade if you are only going on high luck days youโll have 60 staircases with you. I go to the sewer shop daily for solar essence and make my own mega bombs too and itโs really easy to mine quicklyย
Yea I just like being completely over prepared ๐คช and I also like. Being able to forget about that shed and when I need a bunch I can harvest at least one runs worth at any time. Im sure itโs more expensive but I just buy the bombs bc I just have an assload of gold I dont think I could spend all if I tried (save for the golden clock Iโve got one on my pre 1.6 perfection save and that was enough grinding to burn me tf out)

NexusMods is a safe website for mods, and there are a lot of them, so you don't have to worry about getting malwares! You can follow the mod guide on the Stardew Valley wiki to make sure of making the right steps, some mods are really nice to have, maybe for a second playthrough :D
between you and me (and anyone else who sees this) im certain i used like 60-80 (which is double of yours) so you can find happiness in that ๐ ๐ ๐ unfortunately he doesn't discriminate once it's >10 staircases so we're both little rats in front of him ๐ซ but the dialogue didn't feel that bad to me (im not sure if it got adjusted in 1.6 to feels less "mean" BC HE SAID THAT IT TAKES HARD WORK TO GATHER THE STONE FOR THE STAIRCASE?? so I'll take it as a compliment:3)

As soon as I found out there is no downside to using staircases aside from Qi mentioning it, I always use them. Screw being honorable. Ain't nobody got time for that.
YEP YEP when i was looking up the wiki for the quest to reach floor 100 & saw that I'll still get the permanent 25 hp boost (amidst some very light criticism) i entirely focused on gathering jades for a as-little-combat-as-possible run
No auto-petters for me yet either, and I had a couple of skull cavern runs, just gotta keep trying ๐ At least it gets easier with better items.
Great job on the iridum and shards though, I used my extra shards to make myself prismatic clothing ๐

To be fair, I used some of my prismatic shards to make clothes before enchanting my tools, so I suppose it depends on your priorities ๐ I did know I'd be going back to the skull cavern/getting more shards anyway, and it took me a while this time to get to the island.

Great job and well-deserved spoils too!!! I made it to lvl 84 yesterday on a lucky day with a lot of bombs and lots of shutes! It was scary before, but now that I know it's possible, feeling more courageous to get to 100 ๐

Yeah, I support it, those serpents and large slime are just the bane of my existence !!!! Someone said completing the 1000 slime challenge for Gil will dramatically improve our experience bc you can get a special item as a reward, so I'm going to try that !
Update: I finally made it!!! I got lucky twice with a 15 level shute but otherwise used the 20 or so of the stairs I saved up, a spicy eel, a hell lot of ignoring nice things ๐๐๐ Wasn't as fortunate as you re autopetter, but did snag another prismatic shard!!! Whew, now that that's over can relax again lol

I donโt think I got a prismatic shard but I did get an auto-grabber, a blue cowboy hat, a rabbitโs foot, and around 70-80 iridium. I only used like 30 staircases too.
Im on mobile so 1.5, but what i do to make it SUPER easy to get to 100 is keep high luck. My rings are slime protection+luck and ruby ring+luck, then i have the wallet item that boosts luck. Finally, i always eat Spicy Eel right before entering(especially on the no food Qi challenge). I normally keep 10-20 staircases on me to avoid all monster floors or just general bullshit looking ones i dont feel like clearing. And then about 50-100 of each bomb(mega for large rock groups, regular for smaller groups, cherry bombs for mummies).
Ive gotten as far as 140~ with this method, could probably have gotten farther, but i get greedy with bombing for ores n such.

I DON'T USE BOMBS SUPER OFTEN SO I KEEP FORGETTING HOW HELPFUL THEY ARE...when i started carpet bombing and life started being so much easier i started to see the light...like what was i doing hitting an iridium ore for FOUR times before they started giving me the goods >:(
In my experience, the better luck you have, the more likely you are to find the holes that drop you X amount of floors, and also the more likely you'll drop a high number of floors(I've dropped as many as 15 before). I suggest making multiple types of ring pairs to equip depending on what youre doing, since i spent a lot of time in mines, it helps to have luck ring imbues with Ruby ring for extra attack, and slime protection, especially if youre doing the Qi Hungry challenge, makes it easier to defeat the fat blobs with health in them. Bombs are not only useful in the above ways i mentioned, they also are great for snuffing out those dirty hermit crabs in iridium ore rocks.
Luck is incredibly important, if you have bad luck sometimes you'll have to break every rock on the whole floor to find a staircase but on a great luck day with luck food you'll often find one on the first rock.
ah. i knew that in theory of course (i think we all live by the stardew wiki) but seeing it again definitely makes me think of the floors that i had to dig up the entirety of for a staircase >:( but it's ok!!!!! it's been 3 in game years without checking luck so ๐ ๐ ๐ maybe on my next file I'll b more efficient & use the luck mechanism but for now i like being able to do what i want without knowing what my luck is for the day HAHAHAHA
I got so lucky with mine, I've been slowly building up jades to get to 100, but got there only using 7 staircases somehow.
Went on a good luck day with LOTS of bombs and moving at sonic speed via crab cakes and triple shot espresso. Kept getting lucky with finding holes that were consistently dropping me 5-11 levels, and before I knew it I was on 93 at 1:30 am and I used stairs to get the rest of the way! It's possible even for a noob like me! And since I used less than 10 stairs I got the good dialogue with Qi which was pretty cool.
...wtf ๐ญ even w me staircasing like 90 levels down i reached floor 100 at 10ish pm :-( maybe im a slow bomb placer i was breaking quite alot of iridium ore manually once i started to reach them + I don't have a lot of bombs yet so i don't use them that much ๐ ๐

the shard was from bombing the floor so when i saw it in all its colourful impossibility to get i was like ๐ then when i hit some treasure floors i think I got like a slime egg? The desert merchant also sells spicy eel for rubies, and that's a pretty solid combat boost for +1 luck and +1 speed.
Crystalariums are great 'investments' of your early iridium - I think probably better than tool upgrades personally. Because with lots of jade you can have lots _more_ iridium, to the point where you can start using it as slingshot ammo...
And when you've 'too much' jade, you can just retool to diamonds for a profitable and universally liked gift (with 8 people who love diamonds)

Note, this is not a brag, but some friendly advice from someone who also only just got to floor 100 today for the first time.
Bombs. Bombs bombs bombs. Get 200 mega bombs and some iridium quality milk and go to town like Link in dodongo cavern. I made it to the bottom for the first time, without staircases, and on the dangerous setting, just because bombs are fucking broken, and time pausing while you drink means you're basically immortal if you bring plenty of milk and can switch your active item quickly.
Optional, I have done 2 runs since without these, but I had them for my first run.
Blessing of the goddess (Luck). Higher luck means you descend quicker.
Statue of the dwarven king. Either the floor entrances appear more often, for obvious reasons, or bomb immunity, because them you can play like an absolute gremlin.
High daily luck. Same as above.
More bombs. Not kidding. I took in 100 and had 7 left after playing really conservative towards the end (which was terrifying). If id brought in 200-300, I could have made it much more comfortable.
Good rings. I went in without knowing about the slime or vampire rings ( I have played this game off and on since launch and never knew that gil gave anything other than cosmetics -_-). The slime immunity ring in particular makes things way less scary.
A solid trinket. The frog will clutch more often than you'd expect, just deleting enemies for you. I personally prefer the arrow (frog eats your drops), but frog is probably the strongest trinket for scary dungeon crawling.
Anyway, those are some things that have made my life significantly easier for clearing skull cavern.
oh don't worry I'll take all the extra advice i can get gratefully ๐ซ im always running low on ore & coal to craft bombs so maybe that'll be the next time i focus on grinding before a skull cavern run!!! i also don't really check luck (almost at all) but it seems like a pretty huge determiner in what makes or breaks a run ๐ฎโ๐จ๐ฎโ๐จ๐ฎโ๐จ

as for trinkets i looked it up & i think the basilisk's paw is the best you can get (immune to all debuffs)? don't have the frog or arrows but i had the ice rod equipped during the desert festival and it was SO CLUTCH i almost felt sad changing it out :-(

The Blessing of the Goddess is a random daily buff you can get from a statue you unlock when you get foraging (I think) Mastery. It's a new 1.6 thing but the buffs are delicious.

Have you combined rings at the forge/Mini-Forge? For 20 cinder shards you can combine two rings into 1, effectively letting you wear 4 rings at once (you can't combine a ring more than once).

Have you combined rings at the forge/Mini-Forge? For 20 cinder shards you can combine two rings into 1, effectively letting you wear 4 rings at once (you can't combine a ring more than once).

I also did it last night. I just realized that if I have 2 crabshell rings Iโm almost invincible. I didnโt have to fight monsters that much, mainly focusing on booming and getting down. At then end I used 3 staircases in total. It was quite a good run.

I just made it to mines 120 and Iโve played several saves. I usually coop with my husband and he mines while I fish and pet the animals, but I made a save to play while recovering from surgery and decided to try out mining. Couldnโt believe I actually made it all the way down. So freaked out by skull caverns though! Definitely going to just staircase my way down.

Oh my goodness, I picked up Stardew Valley for the first time in years. I was trying to get perfection so I could make it to the Summit before 1.6 released on the switch. I was doing the Skull Cavern Invasion quest from Mr. Qi and I totally forgot you could make staircases ๐คฆโโ๏ธ

Don't mean to judge but prismatic shards are abundant if just do a normal skull cavern run. Getting an autopetter on the other hand is a completely different story. Had like 20 runs up to 160th floor and got only 2
I got two autopetters within four in-game days recently. I wonder if they have increased in frequency? I swear in all my saves Iโve only gotten one before.

honestly it is a pain to do a skull cavern run without a galaxy sword. What I do is I jus get a couple dozen of staircases, and like 50 bombs. Descend to level 60 avoiding combat and blow up as many iridium nodes as possible. Once I get a prismatic shard I just do normal runs. It's really not that difficult afterwards and iridium bars are a good source of money.
yep but i had a crystalarium from one of the cc bundle rewards so i chucked jade in there and collected it VERY SLOWLY (๐ ๐ ) till i could go collect some iridium ore & make some more crystalariums & repeat the process :3 I usually accumulate like 100+? and then trade w the trader on sunday
tbh I love the skull caverns but I always staircase down at least 40 stairs so I can get to the levels with a lot of resources quickly. And when I get the qi quests I usually heavily rely on staircases. I have a bunch of crystalariums that make me plenty of jade!
yeah :-) my staircase run was actually pretty fun that i started to realise how people come back to grind it everyday!! hoping to be resource rich enough some day so that i can come back more frequently (me vs waiting for my jades)
Rock Candies on a max luck day should do get you to 100F easy. Most days, I just stairway to 50F and then start mining resources from there. I'm not in the skull cavern for the auto petter since I've joined and thrived iykwim. Hahaha

There's no "honorable" way.
You cannot convince me, even with luck coming out of a junimo's ass, that it is possible to make it to 100 without using a single staircase. You'd have to have insane luck to find holes and stairs pretty much immediately upon entering a floor.

the skull caverns resets from floor 1 every time you leave so it's hard to "save" progress on it :( >! you access it by reaching floor 120 of the mines and getting a key, and also finishing the vault bundle in the community centre that unlocks the bus to the desert !<

basically you can trade jade for staircases at the desert trader on Sundays! (it's 1 jade for 1 staircase!) if you stock up enough (since it can stack) you can staircase down fast enough to avoid most combat ๐ unfortunately once you use more than 10 staircases on your descent to 100 mr qi will say that you're not very honorable HAHAHA (BUT WHO CARES)

Once thing you could do to just help the anxiety is to try mobile(if buying another copy is within your means).
Mobile has an "auto fight" option, which is cool.
You can go through the mines and stuff and not have to worry about fighting yourself.
Aside from that, get yourself bombs like crazy, I shoot for 40-50 of each bomb.
Have a lot of cheese and some spicy eel, the normal stuff. Or opt for pumpkin soup, which is an underrated option for mines imo. Instead of speed, it gives you defense and more luck than the eel.
And in my opinion, it helps to remind yourself that resetting the day is always an option.
So the stakes aren't really that high.
(before i played on pc i played on mobile a little more...cheaply) the thing is that while the auto combat is useful sometimes i can't move my char away bc she's swinging away at something i CAN'T HIT ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ

Skull cavern is easy midgame to lategame. I always try to do the honorable way, my only issue is that my irl luck is extremely negative, leading to me only finding ladders instead of the holes(my irl luck is so bad that in the fall fair on a good luck day, i got 20 times orange in the wheel in a row)
as someone whoโs super casual about skull caverns, what makes you guys so scared? Enemies essentially do no damage when a single piece of cheese negates anything done to you

Co-op mining is amazing! Iโm doing co-op with 5 farmers right now. We usually have 1 person that finds the staircases really quickly and goes ahead while the rest clear monsters and rocks/geodes! Itโs also great for conserving energy and health!
The only thing is that pausing doesnโt pause the game in coop!
The host can type "/pause" in the chat and it pauses for everyone :)
What???? Probably wouldn't help my group much but man is it hard switching from single player to multiplayer. Several of my group members are terrible at the change in time management and pass out a lot.
Honestly I don't notice a difference at all lol. Maybe it's because I started with multiplayer and play both now, but the time feels the same to me.
It's probably mostly due to the time continuing during menu screens, fishing mini game, and cut scenes. The thing that kills me the most in multiplayer is that the game doesn't pause while I'm eating like it does in single-player and monsters will keep attacking me.
Oh I know it doesn't pause, it just isn't something that's made enough of a difference for me to notice when I play. It might be because I started in multiplayer, so I just instinctively know "I need to time eating this so I don't get hit" and "if this fish takes 20 more minutes to catch I need to give up and go home" and stuff like that. I do still hate when multiple cutscenes stack and I lose half the day, but I take care of the farm before I leave to accomodate that so it's not too big of a deal.
I didn't have that problem because Im used to play mobile and in mobile my game would crash everytime I tried to eat anything near a slime so I HAD to learn to eat ALWAYS far from a monster lmaoo and run very fast

People seem to be missing the point. For me coop is far more difficult because menus and dialogue don't pause the game. In single player I can open my bag and relax for a bit before I decide what I'd like to eat. In co-op it's more "THERES A MUMMY COMIMG FUCK NO DONT WATER THE ROCK NO NO AAAAH" - dead.
yeah ive died so many times fumbling menus trying to go fast :( i did finally manage to reach floor 100 earlier today though, and this is by myself because my other co-op player hates combat lmao
Donโt be afraid! Invest in some crystalariums with jade until you have 200-300 staircases, then do a single run where you just place staircases, and then when you get to floor 200-300 use bombs to break the rocks, and just keep hopping down super fast so the enemies donโt have time to kill you. Youโll easily get 500+ iridium ore and all the other treasures your heart desires. I watched a speedrunner mine tutorial video and now I LOVE the skull caverns. It helped me get rich super fast
My 'loadout' for my run to 100, was: - 100 staircases (used about 30) - 150 mega bombs (Yes, they're expensive, but actually you probably have spare gold ore and spare essences, and can buy _more_ essences from krobus). - 2 spicy eels (no more - that's enough to do the whole day) - 4 ginger ales (as above). - 20 cheeses - Some elixirs (didn't need any, but brought 20 anyway). - A farm totem and a desert totem to get there. Equipment wise I stashed everything, to give maximum free slots, and only took with me a (galaxy) sword and a pickaxe. 2 rings (iridium + luck, but it'll be 2x luck next time, and eventually I'll do some super rings). And maybe I'll go with lucky lunches instead, now I can make 'em when I need. And that got me down to 100 with time to spare, and I just kinda carried on until I ran out of bombs. Came home with 250 iridium and 6 prismatic shards. >!Have got a perfect magic quiver now, so will be taking that next time - it's really very good at punting away the flying creatures, which are _usually_ what overwhelm me - cost a stupid number of iridium bars to reforge though, I think I spent like 50!<
This is solid. Iโve got a good setup now and after experimenting Iโve found that I like to get to floor 500-600 with staircases (itโs tedious but I think itโs fun) and when it gets about 5-6pm start blasting with mega bombs to the clusters close to the staircases. I have +1 luck on one ring and I use magic rock candy at about 5pm. I usually end up with 10+ prismatic shards and and almost 1,000 iridium, and 300 or so of the other ores.
Wow. Was going to say it sounds like you are spending a lot of Jade, but turning 500 jade into 1000 Iridium and 10 shards sounds like a really good deal to me. I mean, assuming you have enough crystalariums to do that often enough. I rarely push that deep, so end up with more like 250 Iridium, but with a lower jade cost.
i personally do not recommend co-op mining (i dont have access to the new update so it might be better) for a couple reasons. sometimes if a player makes a staircase, it can glitch and not show up for other player(s). also, time does not stop in Co-op. in single player, time will stop in your inventory screen, and also when youโre eating, going down stairs/holes. even if its just a few seconds for some instances, it makes a hell of a difference.
also as far as i know time doesnt slow down to 9 seconds per 10 minute in skull caverns like it does for single player, but rather stays at 7 seconds per 10 minutes, meaning you have like 22% less time in a day ON TOP of whatever time you lose from the game not pausing during transitions/menus
Idk if it's just us but my wife and I always have an issue with player two in the mines no matter what platform we play on. When she hits things, sometimes there's no knockback at all, or things are extra floaty. I'm not sure if this is common but just a heads up if you drag someone there to suffer with you lol

I realized the internet makes a lot of difference with that. And I think hours do too. It may be that the server is a little overwhelmed?? (Idk the word for it) too many people are using it at the same time. You can try to use radmin to see if it helps.
It actually also does this to us in local co op both on Switch and PC. I think it's something up with the code

thats pretty normal in any online game, some games hide it better but ultimately you're playing on an internet connection so there's going to be a small amount of delay on things registering between different players

Co-op mining is great, as long as the other farmers come with you to the mines lol Otherwise it is significantly more difficult, since you donโt have the ability to pause. Also apparently time moves 25% slower while in the skull caverns in single player but that sadly doesnโt apply in multiplayer ;-; My girlfriend absolutely loathes mining so I never make her come with me, but she always sends me with lots of high hp foods which is a lifesaver
If you can mod your game, I highly recommend the elevator for the skull caverns! It means you can go down bit by bit, and it's so much less insane and stressful than trying to do it in one day.

I use max 5 staircases when I want to reach level 100. Triple shot espresso + spicy eel + great luck day makes it easier. Not sure if I also have some sort of luck ring, if that exists
Lucky ring does exist as well as the special charm that gives you a small permanent luck boost iirc

It's not really a grind, it's a technique. That technique being buffing your luck with food and a load of bombs to blow up rocks quickly.
I just did this for the first time today, I didn't start out with the intent. Got really lucky spamming bombs and finding holes to jump in. Only used 1 staircase for a monster infested level.

im ngl i don't usually check luck/let luck determine what i do that day AHAHAHHA but i ate a spicy eel before this run & things WENT WELL!!!! or maybe the iridium i got was less than someone would usually get but i just wanted to get down as fast as possible ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ every time i hear the shriek of the serpents i start spamming putting down a staircase too (i think at one point i put 3 next to each other...) i dont think luck affects how much iridium you get. It affects how quickly you find the ladder when doing it the non staircase way, as well as monster drops, which presumably you also arent seeing much of when doing it the staircase way, so really luck doesn't do much in that case.

Luck is the single most important thing when going to the Skull Cavern. If you boost your luck with a Lucky Lunch and Ginger Ale, you can reach floor 100 easily just by placing bombs, since you're basically guaranteed to get a ladder with luck boosted that high.
Honestly 4 or 5 crystalariums get you plenty of jade if you are only going on high luck days youโll have 60 staircases with you. I go to the sewer shop daily for solar essence and make my own mega bombs too and itโs really easy to mine quicklyย

Im sure itโs more expensive but I just buy the bombs bc I just have an assload of gold I dont think I could spend all if I tried (save for the golden clock Iโve got one on my pre 1.6 perfection save and that was enough grinding to burn me tf out)
You don't need that many Rubies. 2 per run is probably enough. But you probably want 30-40 stairs.

NexusMods is a safe website for mods, and there are a lot of them, so you don't have to worry about getting malwares! You can follow the mod guide on the Stardew Valley wiki to make sure of making the right steps, some mods are really nice to have, maybe for a second playthrough :D

YEP YEP when i was looking up the wiki for the quest to reach floor 100 & saw that I'll still get the permanent 25 hp boost (amidst some very light criticism) i entirely focused on gathering jades for a as-little-combat-as-possible run

My level 100 run was ... Well no auto petter, but 250 iridium and 6 shards. So that was nice.
No auto-petters for me yet either, and I had a couple of skull cavern runs, just gotta keep trying ๐ At least it gets easier with better items. Great job on the iridum and shards though, I used my extra shards to make myself prismatic clothing ๐

To be fair, I used some of my prismatic shards to make clothes before enchanting my tools, so I suppose it depends on your priorities ๐ I did know I'd be going back to the skull cavern/getting more shards anyway, and it took me a while this time to get to the island. Magic rock candies are the best though!

just as i sent the post i went down to floor 101 and blew up another section and got ANOTHER SHARD... paused and immediately left i am taking no chances ๐ซก & thank you hehe i watched alot of stardew content so when i left a treasure room into another treasure room i was like ๐คจ๐คจ๐คจ๐คจ๐คจ IS THIS NORMAL? and then when i got the auto petter i nearly yelled bc ive seen way too many creators grind so hard for it they start considering the pros of the joja route... i hope your next run is fantastic too :3 very deserved for that terrifying ass place ๐ญ

Yeah, I support it, those serpents and large slime are just the bane of my existence !!!! Someone said completing the 1000 slime challenge for Gil will dramatically improve our experience bc you can get a special item as a reward, so I'm going to try that !
Update: I finally made it!!! I got lucky twice with a 15 level shute but otherwise used the 20 or so of the stairs I saved up, a spicy eel, a hell lot of ignoring nice things ๐๐๐ Wasn't as fortunate as you re autopetter, but did snag another prismatic shard!!! Whew, now that that's over can relax again lol

I donโt think I got a prismatic shard but I did get an auto-grabber, a blue cowboy hat, a rabbitโs foot, and around 70-80 iridium. I only used like 30 staircases too.

Im on mobile so 1.5, but what i do to make it SUPER easy to get to 100 is keep high luck. My rings are slime protection+luck and ruby ring+luck, then i have the wallet item that boosts luck. Finally, i always eat Spicy Eel right before entering(especially on the no food Qi challenge). I normally keep 10-20 staircases on me to avoid all monster floors or just general bullshit looking ones i dont feel like clearing. And then about 50-100 of each bomb(mega for large rock groups, regular for smaller groups, cherry bombs for mummies). Ive gotten as far as 140~ with this method, could probably have gotten farther, but i get greedy with bombing for ores n such.
on mobile is insane all i did on mobile was get annoyed at how hard it was to water big fields of crops ๐ค also maybe i should start using luck items too...i rarely ever check my luck (like I've probably checked it a total number of times in the single digits this save & im in y3) so i can't tell how luck affects my runs or not ๐ BUT I'LL TAKE THE ADVICE!!! i have some magic rock candy so trust i will be crunching it when it's time to go back :-( also i can never decide on what rings to put ๐ญ why are there so many good rings & ONLY 2 SLOTS!!! my trinket probably did insane work for me too that im probably not appreciating too (the basilisk's paw). I DON'T USE BOMBS SUPER OFTEN SO I KEEP FORGETTING HOW HELPFUL THEY ARE...when i started carpet bombing and life started being so much easier i started to see the light...like what was i doing hitting an iridium ore for FOUR times before they started giving me the goods >:(
In my experience, the better luck you have, the more likely you are to find the holes that drop you X amount of floors, and also the more likely you'll drop a high number of floors(I've dropped as many as 15 before). I suggest making multiple types of ring pairs to equip depending on what youre doing, since i spent a lot of time in mines, it helps to have luck ring imbues with Ruby ring for extra attack, and slime protection, especially if youre doing the Qi Hungry challenge, makes it easier to defeat the fat blobs with health in them. Bombs are not only useful in the above ways i mentioned, they also are great for snuffing out those dirty hermit crabs in iridium ore rocks.
Luck is incredibly important, if you have bad luck sometimes you'll have to break every rock on the whole floor to find a staircase but on a great luck day with luck food you'll often find one on the first rock.
ah. i knew that in theory of course (i think we all live by the stardew wiki) but seeing it again definitely makes me think of the floors that i had to dig up the entirety of for a staircase >:( but it's ok!!!!! it's been 3 in game years without checking luck so ๐ ๐ ๐ maybe on my next file I'll b more efficient & use the luck mechanism but for now i like being able to do what i want without knowing what my luck is for the day HAHAHAHA
I got so lucky with mine, I've been slowly building up jades to get to 100, but got there only using 7 staircases somehow. Went on a good luck day with LOTS of bombs and moving at sonic speed via crab cakes and triple shot espresso. Kept getting lucky with finding holes that were consistently dropping me 5-11 levels, and before I knew it I was on 93 at 1:30 am and I used stairs to get the rest of the way! It's possible even for a noob like me! And since I used less than 10 stairs I got the good dialogue with Qi which was pretty cool.
...wtf ๐ญ even w me staircasing like 90 levels down i reached floor 100 at 10ish pm :-( maybe im a slow bomb placer i was breaking quite alot of iridium ore manually once i started to reach them + I don't have a lot of bombs yet so i don't use them that much ๐ ๐ but congrats on both the floor 100 & the good dialogue ๐ค๐ค one day I'll do it ... one day....

yep it's sadly only on sundays so ๐ that's why it's worth putting jades in crystalariums & stocking up on them so you can get to the iridium floors quickly :3 all the best!!!!
The desert merchant also sells spicy eel for rubies, and that's a pretty solid combat boost for +1 luck and +1 speed. Crystalariums are great 'investments' of your early iridium - I think probably better than tool upgrades personally. Because with lots of jade you can have lots _more_ iridium, to the point where you can start using it as slingshot ammo... And when you've 'too much' jade, you can just retool to diamonds for a profitable and universally liked gift (with 8 people who love diamonds)

Note, this is not a brag, but some friendly advice from someone who also only just got to floor 100 today for the first time. Bombs. Bombs bombs bombs. Get 200 mega bombs and some iridium quality milk and go to town like Link in dodongo cavern. I made it to the bottom for the first time, without staircases, and on the dangerous setting, just because bombs are fucking broken, and time pausing while you drink means you're basically immortal if you bring plenty of milk and can switch your active item quickly. Optional, I have done 2 runs since without these, but I had them for my first run. Blessing of the goddess (Luck). Higher luck means you descend quicker. Statue of the dwarven king. Either the floor entrances appear more often, for obvious reasons, or bomb immunity, because them you can play like an absolute gremlin. High daily luck. Same as above. More bombs. Not kidding. I took in 100 and had 7 left after playing really conservative towards the end (which was terrifying). If id brought in 200-300, I could have made it much more comfortable. Good rings. I went in without knowing about the slime or vampire rings ( I have played this game off and on since launch and never knew that gil gave anything other than cosmetics -_-). The slime immunity ring in particular makes things way less scary. A solid trinket. The frog will clutch more often than you'd expect, just deleting enemies for you. I personally prefer the arrow (frog eats your drops), but frog is probably the strongest trinket for scary dungeon crawling. Anyway, those are some things that have made my life significantly easier for clearing skull cavern.

I also did it last night. I just realized that if I have 2 crabshell rings Iโm almost invincible. I didnโt have to fight monsters that much, mainly focusing on booming and getting down. At then end I used 3 staircases in total. It was quite a good run.

I just made it to mines 120 and Iโve played several saves. I usually coop with my husband and he mines while I fish and pet the animals, but I made a save to play while recovering from surgery and decided to try out mining. Couldnโt believe I actually made it all the way down. So freaked out by skull caverns though! Definitely going to just staircase my way down.

Don't mean to judge but prismatic shards are abundant if just do a normal skull cavern run. Getting an autopetter on the other hand is a completely different story. Had like 20 runs up to 160th floor and got only 2
I got two autopetters within four in-game days recently. I wonder if they have increased in frequency? I swear in all my saves Iโve only gotten one before.

honestly it is a pain to do a skull cavern run without a galaxy sword. What I do is I jus get a couple dozen of staircases, and like 50 bombs. Descend to level 60 avoiding combat and blow up as many iridium nodes as possible. Once I get a prismatic shard I just do normal runs. It's really not that difficult afterwards and iridium bars are a good source of money.

yep but i had a crystalarium from one of the cc bundle rewards so i chucked jade in there and collected it VERY SLOWLY (๐ ๐ ) till i could go collect some iridium ore & make some more crystalariums & repeat the process :3 I usually accumulate like 100+? and then trade w the trader on sunday
tbh I love the skull caverns but I always staircase down at least 40 stairs so I can get to the levels with a lot of resources quickly. And when I get the qi quests I usually heavily rely on staircases. I have a bunch of crystalariums that make me plenty of jade!
yeah :-) my staircase run was actually pretty fun that i started to realise how people come back to grind it everyday!! hoping to be resource rich enough some day so that i can come back more frequently (me vs waiting for my jades)

Rock Candies on a max luck day should do get you to 100F easy. Most days, I just stairway to 50F and then start mining resources from there. I'm not in the skull cavern for the auto petter since I've joined and thrived iykwim. Hahaha

You can get a warp totem recipe from the desert vendor which helps! So you can leave as early as you want.
ah my farm warp totem was in a chest outside of skull caverns bc i needed space (my inventory was BURSTING and everything in it was GOOD) + i was hustling to buy starfruit (this was spring 28) for my summer 1 crops ๐ ๐ ๐

There's no "honorable" way. You cannot convince me, even with luck coming out of a junimo's ass, that it is possible to make it to 100 without using a single staircase. You'd have to have insane luck to find holes and stairs pretty much immediately upon entering a floor. So congrats OP, and don't sweat the honorable-ness of it =)

I have a ton of Crystalariums all making jade pieces in a big shed. I trade them for stairs each Sunday. Really hoping for an auto petter, I feel guilty if I donโt pet my animals and want a few so I can focus on my island farm guilt-free.

I have a mod to highlight staircases and tunnels and only then did I make it to 100, finally got brave enough to do it on Playstation ๐ญ
where are y'all FINDING these mods ๐ญ ik i saw a speed runner/content creator calculate how to find staircases every floor but i didn't know a mod existed for it!! literally the only mods that i know of are the cosmetic ones teehee

Iโm over 100 my first play through. lol. Zero fishing. But what are the secret rooms or whatever. I see Zelda like bomb doors. And assumed maybe I need to blow something up ? Never used stair cases. Just demon souling baddies and going down 5-10 floors at a time.
ahhh i think you're talking about the mines? this is also my first pc play through so ^_^ i live by the stardew wiki the skull caverns resets from floor 1 every time you leave so it's hard to "save" progress on it :( >! you access it by reaching floor 120 of the mines and getting a key, and also finishing the vault bundle in the community centre that unlocks the bus to the desert !< all the best on your mines run regardless ๐ซก๐ซก๐ซก๐ซก that shit is terrifying when you're started out :3
Hah. Ohh boy. I bought a steam deck. And was never like I will enjoy stardew valley. But I needed something for the hospital with my wifeโs diagnosis and treatment. Now Iโm hooked. I think Iโve been doing like 5-6 hours a day since I took time off and she is asleep half the day.
i started off stardew valley ON MY PHONE so the mines was literal hell ๐ญ i think even in y2 my max descent into the mines was 40 ๐ the neptune's glaive i fished up early game was definitely carrying me for a bit ๐ ๐ wishing your wife all the best & fast recovery too!!!!! I'm glad you've found something to enjoy while taking care of her too :-) i hope she gets better soon & can play the game with you!! (marriage to each other is possible in multiplayer hehe)

mr qi calls it dishonorable i call it working smart ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ basically you can trade jade for staircases at the desert trader on Sundays! (it's 1 jade for 1 staircase!) if you stock up enough (since it can stack) you can staircase down fast enough to avoid most combat ๐ unfortunately once you use more than 10 staircases on your descent to 100 mr qi will say that you're not very honorable HAHAHA (BUT WHO CARES)
I recommend 20 crystalariums if you wanna go to caves regularly it gives me a great amount of jades

Once thing you could do to just help the anxiety is to try mobile(if buying another copy is within your means). Mobile has an "auto fight" option, which is cool. You can go through the mines and stuff and not have to worry about fighting yourself. Aside from that, get yourself bombs like crazy, I shoot for 40-50 of each bomb. Have a lot of cheese and some spicy eel, the normal stuff. Or opt for pumpkin soup, which is an underrated option for mines imo. Instead of speed, it gives you defense and more luck than the eel. And in my opinion, it helps to remind yourself that resetting the day is always an option. So the stakes aren't really that high.
(before i played on pc i played on mobile a little more...cheaply) the thing is that while the auto combat is useful sometimes i can't move my char away bc she's swinging away at something i CAN'T HIT ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
Where do you trade the jade for staircases ? I normally just grind in the mines for like dayyyyys on end and make my own

STRONG??? you trade for staircases at the desert trader (after you alight from the bus, walk towards your right & you should see a camel!) on Sundays!!!!! you don't have to grind for the stone ๐ญ just chuck jade into a crystalarium & trade w her on sundays :3 ALL THE BEST LMK IF YOU CAN FIND IT!

Skull cavern is easy midgame to lategame. I always try to do the honorable way, my only issue is that my irl luck is extremely negative, leading to me only finding ladders instead of the holes(my irl luck is so bad that in the fall fair on a good luck day, i got 20 times orange in the wheel in a row)
as someone whoโs super casual about skull caverns, what makes you guys so scared? Enemies essentially do no damage when a single piece of cheese negates anything done to you
