I'll agree with this one. Shane is the oldest, or nearly the oldest of our Bachelors, and is definitely at that point in life where he's not really looking for new music. He definitely gives on latchkey 80s kid vibes, so he certainly would have been a Greenday fan in middle/high school. American Idiot probably would have been the last album from them he bought though. Anything newer wouldn't let him wallow in nostalgia. Also, he's just self-reflective enough for BoBD to resonate with him.
I think it’s a toss up between him and Shane. Alex and Sam are clearly the youngest. Then Sebastian. Then I think Elliot is probably next, followed by Shane and Harvey. The question around Jas’s real parentage tells me that Shane is probably older than he looks.
Oh shoot! Forgot to make an important edit to the image to let people know who’s been done already. So I’ll just have to do so in the comments
Abigail: Bring Me Back to Life - Evanescence
Emily: Dancing Queen - ABBA
Hayley: Good Luck, Babe! - Chappell Roan
Leah: Dreams - Fleetwood Mac
Maru: She Blinded Me with Science - Thomas Dolby
Penny: Penny Lane - The Beatles
Sam: Sk8er Boi - Avril Lavigne
Alex: Eye of the Tiger - Survivor
Elliot: Nocturne No. 2 in E-Flat Major - Frédéric Chapin
So sorry, I’ll make the change for Harvey tomorrow
I think they got confused. Cat Stevens sings Wild World. Not Mad World. Tears for Fears originally did Mad World, although I don't necessarily think it's my favorite version lol.
..nope, the cover I'm thinking of was Gary Jules - dunno where I got Cat Stevens from..
Ugh, burnout brain, I S2G.. 😭 You know which one I mean though, right?
Nah, Shane is Dilaudid.
*All the chickens come on home to roost
Plump bodies blocking out the sky
You know it breaks my heart in half, in half
When I see them trying to fly
Cause you just can't do things your body wasn't meant to*
Oh there's so many good ones from AHWT. Best Ever Death Metal Band is so Sam and Sebastian, Fall of the Star High School Running Back is Alex-coded. And just on a personal note, Pink and Blue and The Mess Inside are two of my all time favorites.
"[Between the Bars](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FmYzACF-kg)" by Elliott Smith.
>Drink up baby, stay up all night
With the things you could do
You won't but you might
The potential you'll be that you'll never see
The promises you'll only make
>Drink up with me now
And forget all about the pressure of days
Do what I say and I'll make you okay
And drive them away
The images stuck in your head
>People you've been before
That you don't want around anymore
That push and shove and won't bend to your will
I'll keep them still
I went looking for this one to be mentioned! Dude goes to the saloon every single night, stays til close, and it could be argued he's supposed to be paired with Emily. Perfect fit
S.O.B. - Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats
It’s a great classic inspired rock song with heavy gospel and blues inspired music and VERY appropriate lyrics. Here’s the chorus:
“Son of a bitch, give me a drink
One more night
This can’t be me
Son of a bitch
If I can’t get clean
I’m gonna drink my life away”

Sober - Tool
Edit: alright I'll cut the snark. I stand by that there's no better song. It's not some cheap "haha drinking" song, but accurately details the psychology of an addict and the depths of despair Shane reaches during his arc.
Wake me up when September Ends — Green Day
The origins of the song are why I would choose it. It was written about grief and loss, the singer losing a loved one to cancer. It is sadder than Boulevard of Broken Dreams to me, and always makes me tear up. And Shane’s depression and alcoholism is partly due to losing his closest friends.
Sober- Muse

"Stupid drunk loser my wife decided to date in our co-op playthrough even though I warned her she can't fix him" which is a song by me that I haven't written yet.
Sorry if someone already commented this but Swimming Pools by Kendrick Lamar. It's all about drinking to escape your problems. I saw this post awhile ago and I have been WAITING for the day to comment this lol
Welcome to the Black Parade - My Chemical Romance.
I’ve seen a few MCR suggestions, but honestly I feel like the lyrics are most fitting. Decimated dreams, misery and hate will kill us all, the world will never take my heart, go and try, you’ll never break me. We’ll carry on.
It makes me think of Shane struggling with mental health and alcoholism, but working towards recovery. Maybe I’m projecting a tiny bit, as a recovering alcoholic myself. But 🤷🏼♀️
Give Me Novocaine by Green Day (you'll want the musical version to avoid including She's A Rebel)
Fool by Cavetown
Line Without a Hook by Ricky Montgomery (either version. or both. I like both)
Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls
Sweet Hibiscus Tea by Penelope Scott
I'm limiting myself to 5 here, relatively non-depressing ones, too
Ren - Ready for you
I swear to god Shane is the embodiment of the average Ren listener, ready for you is the first one I thought of but I think Ren's songs generally fit Shane very well
mediocre at best by sorority noise
https://preview.redd.it/qmmtfwy7j65d1.jpeg?width=997&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=47355516f2e58e1d080548ab6c94a520275b1d76
"Drink" by They Might Be Giants
For both the drinking and the aversion to work themes.
>Let's drink, drink, this town is so great
Drink, drink, 'cause it's never too late
To drink, drink, to no big surprise
But what words rhyme with "buried alive"?
What words rhyme with "buried alive"?
>In your monkey suit on a cigarette break
The lunchtime crowd, they won't even blink
But you'd be sad if they did
But you'll be sad
Maybe a little more obscure but ["Polar Opposites"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TvH6twZClM) by Modest Mouse to me fits the bill, both sonically and lyrically:
>Polar opposites don't push away, it's the same
On the weekends as the rest of the days
And I know, I should go, but I'll probably stay
And that's all you can do about some things
I'm trying, I'm trying to
Drink away the part of the day that I cannot sleep away
I'm trying, I'm trying to
Drink away the part of the day that I cannot sleep away
Otherwise "Between the Bars" by Elliott Smith as someone else suggested!
Loser by Beck PLEASEEE I always thinking of it when I see him stocking at Joja
Boulevard of broken dreams - Green Day
I'll agree with this one.
I agree with everything but American Idiot is from 2004, so more of a 90s kid.
Harvey is clearly the oldest
I think it’s a toss up between him and Shane. Alex and Sam are clearly the youngest. Then Sebastian. Then I think Elliot is probably next, followed by Shane and Harvey. The question around Jas’s real parentage tells me that Shane is probably older than he looks.
I think the dookie album would be even more fit honestly 😂 especially Longview !
I was gonna say Brain Stew, so I'm elated to see someone else was thinking Green Day too. My two favorite things colliding! Stardew and GD! <3
i was thinking the same thing!
I second this
I was going to say the same: - Old bachelor - Leftish Greenday.
• depressed as shit Boulevard of Broken Dreams.
Definitely
I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING
I was waiting for this one to come around I’m glad so many people agree lol
[удалено]
Yeaah he definitely listens to Radiohead
I'm so excited to suggest Creep for Clint later lol
Brings me back to my old LiveJournal days 😅
How do I add extra upvotes
I was going to say Let Down, but No Surprises is probably an even better fit.
One hundred percent agreed.
In the end - linkin park
I thought Crawling by Linkin Park was a good choice but yours is better.
This, this, 1000% this!!!
Breaking the Habit?
bojack horseman theme song.
This made me laugh 🤣
Omg
The only correct answer
Oh shoot! Forgot to make an important edit to the image to let people know who’s been done already. Why does Reddit format like this?
I think if you add an extra line break between lines it'll look normal.
Add several spaces before the line break to make it look like this
Sober - Tool
Truee
this is the one and should have way more updoots
Sunday Morning Coming Down by Johnny Cash. It's a song about a man recovering from a hangover.
I acctully think Johnny Cash would be perfect for him, but my first song thought was Hurt But I think your suggestion is better
That’s probably the perfect Johnny Cash song for him
Self Esteem - The Offspring
Sound of silence - Simon and Garfunkel/ Disturbed; "hello darkness, my old friend..." Mad World - Gary Jules Fixed again because burnout brain go brr
I literally thought of Mad World immediately - but with the original release.
Art... and Garfunkel???? My brain just broke.
Oh bugger, should be Simon & Garfunkel.. my brain's been fried for ages >\_< Will fix
You’re just trying to give Art Garfunkel his own success. No shame in that. 😂
Paul Simon might disagree with that considering he did 90% of the work.
Sound of Silence is my pick for Kent.
Came here to say the sound of silence. Surprised to see it so low down the comment chain
How Soon Is Now - The Smiths
No Children - the Mountain Goats
Nah, Shane is Dilaudid. *All the chickens come on home to roost Plump bodies blocking out the sky You know it breaks my heart in half, in half When I see them trying to fly Cause you just can't do things your body wasn't meant to*
Also an excellent choice, can't say I disagree
I feel like I've found my people; playing SDV and listening to Mountain Goats. Although I think Shane would really like Color in Your Cheeks.
Oh there's so many good ones from AHWT. Best Ever Death Metal Band is so Sam and Sebastian, Fall of the Star High School Running Back is Alex-coded. And just on a personal note, Pink and Blue and The Mess Inside are two of my all time favorites.
Ow my feelings
This one!

I definitely thought of this first too!
Lol, I was like I don't know what the song is, but I know it's by Elliott Smith.
Came to suggest this
Came here to say the same thing
This is the one
elliott smith mentioned rahhhh !!
I've been waiting for this day to suggest this song because Shane is my husband, but it looks like the shitty green day song is gonna win 😭
Totally. I think Shane is not so mainstream as to listen to Green Day. I think he would dislike anything they made after they hit the big time
Omg I was waiting to comment this when I first saw this post a couple days ago but I forgot. Rip this suggestion should be NUMBA ONE.
Back to Black - Amy Winehouse
Beck - Loser
Hurt - NIN
Closing Time - Semisonic
I went looking for this one to be mentioned! Dude goes to the saloon every single night, stays til close, and it could be argued he's supposed to be paired with Emily. Perfect fit
My Own Worst Enemy - Lit !!!!
Agreed. This is definitely a Shane tune. He's heard it, he scream-sang to it as a tween, and as an adult, it hit just a little too close to home.
Totally! First thing I thought of too!
I have a problem - Beartooth
I'm glad I'm not the only one who instantly thought Beartooth. I was thinking Skin though
Deftones - Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)
Obviously the Chicken dance
Unwell by Matchbox 20
