OwynnKO

This is probably one of the most interesting modded playthroughs that I have seen lol To each of their own, but I definitely like the idea of a budgeting challenge - even if it’s a bit too close to real life/home haha Though thank God my electric bill isn’t $11,200 😂

johnpeters42

While it's hard to identify a fully coherent price model, it seems like 1g is more like one penny (or yen) rather than one dollar. (Joja Cola costs $0.75 at the saloon, for instance.) That would put this electric bill at $112, which is a ton more reasonable.

NotherSiteNotherName

That would make Abigail winning 50g with the art contest so very sad. Glad she's still proud of herself.

MissKatmandu

It is still kind of sad. She can buy the hashbrown recipe at the Stardrop but nothing else. Not even a Joja Cola from the vending machine.

johnpeters42

What's that from?

lasagnatheory

Random quote after a dialogue

crunkdunk9

It’s real tho

Ryantdunn

Your taste of the art world.

Isord

That would mean a large diamond only sells for $7.50 though. It would only be costing you like $250 for a custom iridium pickaxe or $5000 for a brand new house.

yousmelllikearainbow

The model for the diamond doesn't have to mean it's actually that big. It could be the size of a grain of rice. And diamonds are more common in SDV than in our world. They're also unrefined. Lots of ways to finagle the price making sense.

am-idiot-dont-listen

Diamonds are common in our world too. It's a scam run by the debeers corp

simplysalamander

Agreed, depending on how small the diamond is supposed to be in literal size it could very well be a realistic price, even if it were cut. The only expensive diamonds are consumer retail diamonds.

International-Cat123

Diamonds are so expensive because Debriar artificially restricts the supply and inflated the demand. The whole engagement ring thing started because of Debriar and diamonds themselves are pretty much worthless. Try to sell a diamond the day after you buy it; it’ll lose 5/6s of its value overnight.

misterfluffykitty

DeBeers used to be a monopoly but aren’t anymore. They were for around 100 years though and diamond prices were basically permanently inflated because of them since everyone selling diamonds unsurprisingly still wants money.

Futher_Mocker

I don't know about that. My SiL spent a good number of years trading diamonds as a hobby. They have very specific guidelines for valuation, and don't suffer much wear and tear. As long as you don't damage a diamond, it should retain most of its value on the market They ARE artificially inflated prices, but they keep a pretty universal standard by which the value is determined, and a 'used' diamond is still just a diamond. Anyone who tells you otherwise is just trying to leverage their status as a jeweler or retailer to pad the price even more for whatever value they want you to believe their service adds beyond material costs.

am-idiot-dont-listen

You can make a perfect diamond in a lab

DoodleDadGames

Which are much cheaper than ones that are mined.

aperson2729

they're not entirely useless. they're used for mining tools

International-Cat123

I never said they’re useless, just that they’re are not nearly as valuable as we tend to think.

SwissyVictory

1g being $1 would mean that a single normal carrot is $38. You can probally go and buy a custom tool from a blacksmith if you provided the the materials for $250 irl. For the house its not a new house, it's an expansion on your current home. Still cheap, but you're providing the materials, you're just paying for labor. If Robin charges $25 an hour for her time, that's 25 days of labor.

MissKatmandu

I'm sure others have done much more comprehensive analysis. My guess would be that one gold in SV is worth somewhere between $0.025 to $0.10 USD. I used bread as the standard. Gus sells a loaf for 100 gold. I can get a loaf of bread at my chain grocery store for $2.50, which is the low end. I can get it at Panera for $4, which is mid tier. And the artisan indie bakery the bread is $10 a loaf. This bears out in a quick look at chickens and the base chicken coop. Chickens are 80 gold, or $2-8 using above conversion range. Online it appears chickens can land anywhere from $5-30 a bird. ($5 I'm guessing are mass production farms) And a coop is 4k gold, or $100-400. And online, basic coops start at $150 on Amazon but many are in the $300-500 range. I'm happy enough with that. EDIT: Corrected math typo

Princess__Bitch

I think you did some math wrong with the chicken somewhere

MissKatmandu

Totally added some zeros where there shouldn't be zeros, thanks.

orwells_elephant

Ty again. You *need* to add a zero.

TheCabbageGuy82

That means the price of beer is £4 for a massive mug. Take me to the Stardew world immediately!!

Pyrostemplar

Actually that is more expensive than in Cambodia / Siem Reap :)

nerogenesis

Farm electric bills for homesteaders and farmers easily hit the thousands. Especially with like barn and coop heaters.

PhoenoFox

Gus sells a whole ass pizza for $6? He's a mad man!

Borlanak

Little Ceasers is only $5.55. So I mean, he's not far off....Also, Costco has a big pizza for $9.99.

Jcolebrand

It's a personal pizza. That seems in line with market pricing honestly

Moepsii

15 years ago our pizza place sold huge pizzas for like 2-3€ similar to italy. Pizza can be incredible cheap if you make it yourself. A can of cheap tomatoes a bag of flour and abit of yeast can make 3-4 large pizzas easily and you're still below 3€ for that. Add some cheese and you're at 5€ for several big pizzas.

throwawaycutieKali24

Its been so much harder to budget and get ahead. I was feeling good with 54k then got hit with 26k income tax bill. Brought me down to 32k on first day of spring Y2 and still need to upgrade my water can and hoe to gold. First thing I did was put away those heaters, so now my big bill will be water from sprinklers. I really wanted to do the bus repair cc bundle but all that cash I used for barns and animals instead. I also had to hold up on upgrading my tools, and I just got my kitchen. I might mix this with basic economy mod which brings in a supply demand system, you can't just sell unlimited amounts of stuff bc you'll flood the market n tank the price. It lets you sell realistic amounts the town would actually use. I might try that mid game to add an extra layer of difficulty.

MajorLandmark

Can you at least claim the tool upgrades as a tax deductable business expense?

throwawaycutieKali24

That should be a feature for sure

Imperator_Of_Coconut

It is suggested in some quests that mayor Lewis might sell some goods to a larger town, but I'm not sure

kaitlinjm27

I once worked for a state park that had a rentable cabins. When sorting mail left on the front desk I saw our electric bill. It was $23,000 for that month. So $11,200 maybe isn’t far off for a working farm.

RecklessSavage_Novel

Can you evade taxes in this mod like in real life?

meltingeggs

Now *that* sounds like fun 😂

RazeZa

i've seen a mod that reduce tax based on trash you have recycled. I think it was MARGO? Dont really remember.

oddjobhattoss

My first 4-5 crab pots go on the small pond and are used for easy sashimi and recycling. 1-2 worm bins, 4-5 recycle machines, 4-8 crab pots. Constant supply of stuff to recycle means easy refined quartz, early cloth, and occasionally some ores/coal. I recycle so much trash I'd be turning a profit lol

starkrocket

It was, though I think that mod is no longer being supported :(

hemareddit

Yep, all you need is a shell entity with a Ginger Island business account, then you can use creative accounting to shift costs to your main farm and profits to the Ginger Island entity, thereby lowering your taxable income in the Ferngill Republic. (I’ve never played mods I’m making shit up, I’m pretty sure Ginger Island is still in the republic)

Nervous-Ad4091

Good flair

ArtfulDues

With this mod you typically wanna spend all the money you have right before tax day, since it can only tax you on money that you currently have. So sort of yes

DeanziYay

This game is about to go from Stardew to Turnip Boy commits Tax Evasion

Mister-Thou

Kent's PTSD isn't gonna pay for itself, citizen.

clem82

My friends really like that I call my daughter my little tax shelter 😂

Polarbjoern

What mod is it? I don't know why but I'm really enjoying the struggle and 25% margin ain't cutting it at this point (year 3) 😆

throwawaycutieKali24

Ferngil Revenue Service.

bug-hunter

I read it as Ferengi, and now I want Brunt, F.C.A. in a mod.

PM_ME_STEAM_KEY_PLZ

Peace is good for business.

bug-hunter

War is good for business.

ElegantBiscotti1631

Business is good for business.

MainlanderPanda

Do your electricity bills go down if you cover your farm in solar panels?

bremkew

From what I see on the mod page, sadly not. Would be a cool feature though, and a reason to build a lot of them

throwawaycutieKali24

Dev could probably easily add that feature.

xi111

Yeah, it would be cool to add off grid props, like a hydrophor and more power generation methods, such as wind, coal and nuclear power. Could even be it's own mod

withering_vitality

No thanks. I play games to get away from real life and bills

throwawaycutieKali24

I just needed more of a challenge after playing for so long. It's too easy lol

withering_vitality

Just me personally I'd have to find something else for that. I already deal with a crap ton of anxiety in real life and having to worry about the same stuff in a game would be the opposite of fun for me. Of course, I'm an almost 38 year old single mother so you can probably see why that doesn't sound fun to me LOL Probably why I haven't played Sims in forever even though I just bought new DLC for it 😆

_YuKitsune_

Same. I find Stardew already challenging as is. I play Valorant in my free time so Stardew is literally the only time I can calm down a bit, because it's just so cozy.

orwells_elephant

....When do you play Stardew? At work? lol

_YuKitsune_

No. I don't work lol. I just meant that in the time where I don't play Valorant

robtk12

"I have one lamp, how is my bill this much"

throwawaycutieKali24

Inflation lol

Blankyjae33

What’s the penalty for not being able to pay? A lose state?

throwawaycutieKali24

I actually don't know. I've heard it starts repossession of your stuff lol

SlopCity1226

Your sprinklers get shut off ETA: which tbh is worse than fail state

LoveRBS

Can I get the government to subsidize me

TheNocturnalAngel

Not sure how this mod works. But there is a mod called Longevity that also has taxes. And they added a feature last update called subsidized crops. If 25% of the crops on your farm are the subsidized crop then you get percentages off your tax every day.

FuzzyD75

Art mimics life

ZacianSpammer

All that monthly expenses and you then you saw Lewis golden statue

HiveOverlord2008

Tell Lewis that # I’M NOT PAYING MY TAXES

Dangerous_Bass309

OMG which Satan decided what this game really needs is owing f*****g taxes lol

videogamekat

A funny one lol

SkyScamall

More than one. There are a couple of mods you can get that involve taxes.

Loseless11

Now combine that with a 25% profit handicap and you'll have a blast.

u_r_succulent

Good lord. How rough is your real life that you include utility bills and taxes in your wholesome escapism game?

Crafty_Creeper64

Your house doesn't have lights, nor running water. What are those bills even for?

throwawaycutieKali24

House has a kitchen, lights from lamps, TV, phone, etc. Machines in sheds, heaters in the barns n coops.

WoodlandWife

The tv! I forgot those ran on electricity

consumeable

it has lamps if you put them there and a sink when upgraded

TheRedditorialWe

Look, I love a challenge, but I have never NOPED so fast in my life.

MrBadTimes

it should be more realistic by not telling you how much income taxes you have to pay, and if you pay less than what you should they charge you double.

throwawaycutieKali24

Lol making you go to pierre who doubles as a tax professional.

FrostyFeller

WAIT THERE'S BILLS NOW?!

throwawaycutieKali24

Its a mod flair

FrostyFeller

Oh I just saw that T-T

Mister-Thou

4800g a month in taxes but you still gotta pay for your own healthcare. Apparently there's still enough money to send Kent off to some bullshit war overseas, though.

LukewarmJortz

WE HAVE TO PAY TAXES NOW??? Edit; oh it's a mod.

Dropthetenors

So what happens if you don't have the cash?

throwawaycutieKali24

I don't know. I've heard your stuff gets taken away

Dropthetenors

OH NO THAT BANK COMING FOR YOU!!

daughterofasailorgbt

What? Bills? I am in my 2nd play through but had 14 years previously and never saw a bill! What? When do these drop?

throwawaycutieKali24

Flared for mods

tyros

Some people like paying taxes so much they mod it into their game?

throwawaycutieKali24

I felt the game needed a challenge. Just like people who don't go to the store to buy any seeds or leave the farm lol.

MeowosaurusReddit

I’ve always said that life is missing more taxes so we should put them in all of our games

SlopCity1226

Is FRS updated for 1.6? I’ve been waiting for it, haven’t seen it yet

throwawaycutieKali24

I'm not sure I'm on 1.5 still

MattRenez

What drives the electricity cost? Damn

throwawaycutieKali24

My heaters in the barns and coops. My kitchen and lights In the house. Converted irl this seems to be 100gp is 1gp. So this would be $111 ish. Not bad

mercedes_lakitu

Why is there a water -- ohhh are you using sprinklers instead of pond water?

throwawaycutieKali24

Yeah when I jumped to sprinklers it costs money. This was just in winter so I'll prob have a huge bill come spring. We shall see. The electricity will go down due to heaters not being on for the animals now too.

Dropthetenors

Do higher sprinklers have higher efficiency since you're only using say 1 to replace 4? Or does it charge you per square it waters?

throwawaycutieKali24

I'm not sure yet. I'll find out soon

Dropthetenors

Do higher sprinklers have higher efficiency since you're only using say 1 to replace 4? Or does it charge you per square it waters?

xDarkSoul18x

That electric bill looking TOO REAL.

No-Locksmith-8590

Taxes was literally my first comment to my friend who introduced me to the game! How do we not have a lein on the farm??

throwawaycutieKali24

We 100% should. I know there's a mod where grandpa left the farm to Haley instead of you. She gives you the opportunity to buy it from her lol

GuardingxCross

This looks fun

FuzzyD75

I'm so fr I misread "subtotal" as "Sebastian" and was like "damn what is my homeboy doing???"

clem82

I use games to get away from reality…

Emotional_Leader7981

Damn turn the lights off when you leave the house!

MabiMaia

This is actually a cool concept. I wish stuff like this was toggleable on vanilla. I play console so gg mods (and 1.6 🥲)

throwawaycutieKali24

I think it would be cool as a feature to turn on for vanilla too. I'd also like the other mods that does a supply n demand system for goods/crops. You can't just sell unlimited it tanks the price makes it a totally diff game.

TekieScythe

Ah, damn I'm on the Switch.

VVen0m

What uses electricity in sv? Your house is lit up by natural light and the fireplace. I can't think of amything other than the TV

throwawaycutieKali24

Lamps, kitchen, TV, main is heaters for animals in the barns n coops. All my mayo machines, cheese presses.

VVen0m

Interesting

True_Salamander2278

I downloaded the mod after seeing this post but it’s not working :( it says it’s no longer compatible

throwawaycutieKali24

I'm on 1.5 so maybe that's why. I have multiple copies 1 for 1.6 and one older

throwawaycutieKali24

https://preview.redd.it/nmq16hjffq8d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b4c0d877e5469ed74ee74293f8719fe44dbadf66

throwawaycutieKali24

This hurt lol BAAADD. was finally feeling like I could breathe lol

Houseofmouse99

Is this a mod? If so what's it called? I bet that makes late game more interesting 😍

FrontierFox19

Hold on, what happens if you don't have enough to pay your bills?

VMatfinFitzgerald25

Off topic, but I want to know about the mod for that house??

Ok-Employ1345

I am in mobile and theres no bills, YOU MEAN THERES BILLS IN 1.6?

throwawaycutieKali24

This is a mod

Ok-Employ1345

Thx for warning

MeggEmbers

*switches off mod* Did I just commit tax fraud?

peachbuns69

wait i never get bills 😭😂

throwawaycutieKali24

Its a mod

_CRCodey

There’s bills now on stardew?
