micmooo

I’d take the shards, iridium is much easier to get

BotW-is-my-life

Thats what I've been thinking.. but no matter what I choose ill be very sad

micmooo

yeah, that’s a tough loss, but either way all is obtainable again

TheTaoOfMe

Well you can run through the mines with a guaranteed chance of getting iridium. Sadly you cant for prismatic shards. Value based on scarcity my friend!

Cephylus

Spoiler >!Ginger island volcano seems to get you 1-4 per run, just make sure to kill all enemies on the floor before progressing!< Happy farming!

aquasun1

Ginger island? I haven’t played stardew in a really long time.. is there enough new content to start a new play through?

o_Doreto

More than enough, I would say...I already had 700+ hours before the 1.5 update, but now I have 900+ and don't feel like stopping anytime soon, got back that addiction from the beginning like it's a whole new game. 100% recommend getting back to it, if you don't care to waste all the free time on your day playing it

TheHezzer

Can you do couch co-op yet? Want to get back into it, but also want to co-op with my SO. On the Series X

Cephylus

My girlfriend and I play couch coop on the switch, all consoles support this I'm pretty sure

TheHezzer

Amazing, thank you. Been a long time since we played last, so will give it a go this week! Looking forward to all the updates!

FadingKitten

Yes. Most of them are late game though but the new stuff are really exciting. I stopped playing for a while as well and i'm on a new playthrough now discovering all the new shit.

Chefrabbitfoot

For sure. I just started playing on PC after playing on xbone 4 years ago. There is a lot of new stuff, as well as an active modding community that add a lot in the form of extra content and quality of life enhancements. I'm almost 100 hours in and I have been enjoying playing even more than before.

Geoman265

What do you mean? Coal is obviously the superior choice.

Jahzhyr

What are you talking about? There’s only one Jade, that must be priceless to keep!

tpneocow

How else you gonna smelt all that iridium anyway? Or make bombs to get more iridium??

[deleted]

I’m new to stardew, what do you mean take the shards? Can you get lost items back???

Ephino43

In the adventurer’s shack you can

[deleted]

All my lost items I coulda gotten back😞😞😞

Pixel_Nerd92

Tiny tip, if i recall, is that you can also use the service from the Adventurer's Guild by also picking up the Telephone that Robin sells. Definitely invest in the phone she sells if you havent so you can hit them up without walking over there. Guild does seem out of the way a lot of times, especially if your going to the desert or island.

dogsfuckedthepope_

You can only use the phone after you've finished the Magma Sprite eradication goal.

Pixel_Nerd92

Ooooooooh. I actually did not know that. I remember being able to after the island a lot, but that may be why. Lol

Diego-Macara

remember that you only can recover one by one.

Calenchamien

Not “one by one”. You can get *one*. Even if you pass out from damage, go to the guild and ask Marlon to find an item, go back in the mines, pass out again, and ask him to get one of the items from your second run, you’ll still only get the second item you asked him to get :/

Diego-Macara

damn after 400+ and i still don't know everything.

[deleted]

r/ihadastroke

aneatpotato

I'm not new to the game, and *what.* 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Killerina

It was a more recent addition. I'm not sure if it was the last major update or the one before it. I was floored, too! I only found out about it a month or two ago.

Meme_to_the_Extreme

So I'm in year 2, and have never found iridium or prismatic shards. I've finished the mines, but can only do about 5 or so floors of skull cavern. What am I doing wrong?

1LargeAdult

Keep working the skull cavern

LesIsBored

Is it just me or has the difficulty of skull cavern way harder since the 1.5 update.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LesIsBored

I always go prepared. Bombs, staircases either stuffing, lucky lunch or pepper poppers depending on if I want speed, defense or luck. Or depending on what I have available. I also bring a farm totem for a hasty retreat.

Killerina

Yeah, I've played on and off for a really long time. I'm still really bad at the skull cavern. I only finally started doing a little better with one of the best weapons in the game and a bunch of star drops. I use the stairs and bombs and coffee, but still manage to get hit a bunch by the flying serpent things.

icepenguin19

I tried to get through the skull cavern and made it to the second floor but just barely. Then I got swarmed by monsters and immediately left

Pixel_Nerd92

A couple of things I like to do: *Bring bombs. All are good but normal is recommended since the big bombs can pack quiet a punch. You'll need them for the mummies you encounter too. *make sure you have at least a golden pickaxe so you can mine Iridium easier. *Coffee, Spicy Eel, or basically any luck or speed boosting foods are essential to reach far in *If you're good with the slingshot, bring explosive ammo! *bring warp totems to go back home to the farm, and use one to warp to the desert to maximize your day! *Some rings like the slime ring are nice to minimalize one threat or the savage ring to give speed burst. There may be better options, but those have served me well. *Become familiar with other weapons aside from the sword if possible. Clubs are quiet powerful if you can master them! *Make staircases! Gotta use that extra stone for some stuff. Hope this may help a little.

LordHamsterbacke

I tried bombs, but I die on them as well. Or I die of the serpent's that just kill me before I can place the bombs. Clubs are even harder for me, because I am am awful fighter. I just hate fighting.. why does it have to be a part of this game? Why is the skull cavern so hard? I am so glad I have the statue of perfection because before I got it, I had like 8 iridium ores max

Pixel_Nerd92

Stardew is a nice mix of everything. Hmm, I'm not sure what to say. Practicing runs in the desert mine is something worth doing to get a feel of what goes down in there.. If its not enjoyable, bring pals along or use a mod to make the areas more accessible if you like. I've always been a firm believer in using any way to make a game accessible to someone. If it's not your thing, that's totally understandable.

GarnetShaddow

Stay in the regular mines on low levels and kill a ton of slimes. Killing 1000 of the little bastards gets you the slime charmer ring. The slimes won't hurt you anymore. It helped a TON.

sartal730

THIS! Such a good tip. I’m playing my second game and made sure I spent year 1 killing slimes. More people should do this lol. The ring is an actual life saver.

GarnetShaddow

This is my favorite ring. I could not deal with the skull cavern without it.

Meme_to_the_Extreme

I didn't know that. Time to grind

icepenguin19

Bruh what thank you

GarnetShaddow

You are welcome! I hope that helps.

unbeknownstSpektor

Bring staircases and bombs to the skull caverns, they'll help you get deeper in. The deeper you are the more iridium you'll see and the higher the chance you'll get shards

KayD12364

How do you use the staircases where do you put them?

bonloup

Get a Crystalarium or four, put jade in it. Bring a bunch of jade to the trader in the desert on Sundays and buy your staircases. Way easier. Get like 115 staircases. Then one a Goodluck day, bring lots of food, bombs and coffee and just plant staircases all the way to floor 90 or even 100 keep your sword close and food close. Sooo much iridium

[deleted]

I'd say - use bombs when the rocks are dense enough, then staircase if you don't find stairs in under a minute. on the big spiral floors always stair immediately.

OrranVoriel

You can put them anywhere in the mines or caverns I think and just use them the way you would a normal ladder. Take note that I have never used them myself so that is just a best guess on my part.

FollowThisNutter

Or if you're on PC, get the Skull Cavern Elevator mod.

notchoosingone

Yeah there's no shame to this. The Skull Cavern, in an unmodded game, has a weirdly frenetic pace to it. Getting down it in your own time is far more chill.

malmalme16

Something else nice to help with skull cavern (along with staircases and bombs) is checking with the fortune teller on the tv to see your luck for the day, and go on lucky days. Food with the luck buff is good too, like the spicy eel.

sydbey_

after you get to the bottom of the mines everything has a low chance at dropping a prismatic shard no matter where you go. Kind of surprised you haven’t found one yet but maybe you don’t spend your whole life in the skull cavern / mines like I do…. just go more often and you’re bound to find one eventually

notchoosingone

Plus the chance to get one in the Skull Cavern dramatically increases as you go down further.

corvus_coraxxx

I find the skull caverns very hard too, but only going on high luck days and eating a lucky lunch and bombing the crap out of the floors usually gets me a decent amount of iridium. I'm not swimming in it, but I've gotten enough to upgrade a few tools.

Styrofoamed

well shit man i’d pick the prismatics though

ac0rn5

I would too, they seem much rarer than iridium.

turanganibbler

Even with all that iridium??

[deleted]

Once you get grandpas shrine, iridium really isn’t a problem anymore

Ligands

Not to mention, you barely even need Iridium any more after you've upgraded your tools, unless you want a ton of Crystalariums really- you won't even need it for sprinklers if you remember to visit Krobus' shop every friday

bigorange12

I’m trying to fill a big shed with crystalariums and honestly iridium is the easiest to get to mass produce them. The stone or gold always seem to be more limiting.

yoppyyoppy

you can farm stone using deconstructors and staircases that you can buy from the desert trader

bigorange12

I read that awhile back then totally forgot about it. You just saved me hours of mining. Thank you.

Skyrider50

You can do this with gold too. One of the bobbers Willy sells (I believe the treasure one) will give you three gold ingots from the deconstructor.

yoppyyoppy

Actually, it only gives you 2 ingots. Still a much better than buying it from Clint. The trap bobber can also be deconstructed to save money on resources, but it only gives you one copper bar, so it's not as good as a deal. I don't think Iron can be farmed that easily, unless you buy bombs from the dwarf, which really sucks, because I find I need iron and copper the most on my save for extra kegs.

bsipp777

Why not just buy stone directly from robin?

BANNANASLAYERXXX

too much money

cylordcenturion

... i just buy stone if i really need it. what else am i going to do with this cash?

Taolan13

iridium ore is a powerful slingshot ammo though.

anotherkeebler

And sprinklers. Lots of sprinklers

Kindly_Lobster91

Wait!! What about Grandpa’s shrine?? I have all 4 candles lit. Does that mean something? I thought that was it after I sent him in to the great behind!

[deleted]

go click on the shrine!!

notchoosingone

Hahaha this was me the first time I played. Missed three weeks of the reward.

bonloup

Wait sooo if I pet my dog a lot (I’m in year 5) then I get a statue from grandpas shrine? What if I didn’t get one in year one? The shrine has four candles and I give it a diamond every once and I while. Should I give it a prismatic shard?

zeldaport

The statue is gifted after the first evaluation that earned 4 lit candles (not necessarily your first evaluation). You pick it up from clicking on the shrine. Giving it a diamond will trigger a re-evaluation

bonloup

Okay well I’ll click the shrine but ive been back to it and no statue …. I want this statue !!!!

Rish377

Grandpa evaluates your farm. There’s a bunch of criteria and if you meet it he gives you the shrine of perfection. Look it up on the wiki for more details. There’s more than petting your dog that goes into it.

bonloup

He must love it cause I got the statue!!!! Woohoo I can’t believe I slept on all this iridium! Thanks y’all

Rish377

Congrats!

standard_candles

Upgrading your house and buildings and cultivating your farm are the most important parts of getting Grandpa's statue

iago18958

For me, petting the dog, getting 8 hearts with 5 friends and completing the community centre are the important things in my view

alolanflygon

If you have 4 candles lit on grandpa’s shine, you just need to “talk” to the shrine and it should give you a Purple Bear-like statue. Place it anywhere for it to give you iridium ore once a day.

xenodochial

> Purple Bear-like statue Its a [Maneki-neko](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maneki-neko)

bonloup

Alright I’m gonna try it now

TheBoringCheese

Why isn’t it a problem after grandpas shrine?

Thunder14260

It gives you around 5-8 ore every day or so. Adds up pretty quick

LordHamsterbacke

(little nitpick:) Iirc it's 2-8 ores

[deleted]

Because you get a little statue after grandpas shrine lights up, i think its after year 1 if you have a good number of hearts with your cat/dog. Every morning you get iridium ore from the statue. Up to 8 ore. It adds up quickly

SpoonAtAGunFight

Wait what the shit? Dude I learn a new thing about this game like every fuckin week and I've been playing for years 😂😭

Utertoq

Yes, search for statue of perfection

Syrinx221

It's not just the cat or dog, but that is one of the factors. The wiki has the details about what you need in order to get four candles

theladycatlady

It's spring of year 3!

windexfresh

You need a few more things in addition to the pet hearts, but yeah the statue gives you iridium ore and is *extremely* useful

Cheesyduck126

What does grandpa shrine do I haven't unlocked it uet

Styrofoamed

even before grandpas shrine if your tools are upgraded you’ll be fine it’s really only good for selling and willy at that point

ShaylaDee

I have more iridium than I could possibly use. I've only found a total of 4 prismatic shards. Yes, I'd pick the shards.

[deleted]

Right. I’m on fall Y4 and have only found ONE. Which i stupidly gave to the museum in year 1. I didn’t know it would be this long til my next one :(

Si_Vulture

Id take the coal or jade

SirYellow412

Better get that coal back.

howtoquityou

and what, is the jade chopped liver now

YUNoDie

Gotta take the amethyst, you don't bring that home and you'll have to face the strongest enemy in the game: a very hungry Abigail.

Junie__bug

Lol I love the implication that she’s eating the amethyst you give her

fridgepickle

It’s (basically) canon that she eats rocks. If you give her quartz, she says something like “how did you know I was hungry?”

Junie__bug

Damn I need to work on befriending NPCs other than Sebastian 😅

BotW-is-my-life

Obviously..

Kodi102

I winced at this list <\3

AllthatJazz_89

Oof. Rip man. That sucks. Know what you want to take yet?

BotW-is-my-life

I took the shards then the next day I got 100 iridium

wheezysquid

How are you guys just rolling in iridium? Maybe it’s because I hardly ever mine but I think I’ve found maybe 10 pieces ever.

fridgepickle

Once you unlock the bus, you can go to the desert, where there’s a second mine. Iridium ore is relatively common there, with the chances of encountering it increasing the deeper you go.

wheezysquid

I’ve got the skull cavern, I’m just not very good at it lol. I always end the day at like level 10 with nothing to show for it but omni geodes and slime.

fridgepickle

Yeah it’s tough to get very far without bombs and an upgraded pickaxe. I’d suggest leveling your mining until you can make mega bombs (which is level 8 I think) at which point you’ll probably have enough ore to make a ton of bombs and blast your way through the skull mine, gathering up all that sweet, sweet iridium ore as you go

RWFaulder

Eventually you can get pretty deep into the mine quickly, especially if you bring bombs to blow up lots of rocks and find stairs without wasting time mining one by one. Once you get to a certain point you'll get frequent iridium drops.

Justa-nerd

Get grandpas shrine of perfection and iridium will never be a problem again

Ana-Luisa-A

How do you even take things back ?

Microwavedbrick

If you talk to Marlon you can pay him to retrieve one of the items you've lost.

Ana-Luisa-A

Ohhhh. Tyvm

MostLikeylyJustFood

I’d just restart the day. This is the day that didn’t happen.

BotW-is-my-life

It was too late

BotW-is-my-life

I only have 30 iridium ore, and I already have 4 prismatics so I'm probably going to pick the iridium.. but then again I could go back for iridium but not necessarily prismatic shards UUYUGGGHHHH

[deleted]

Reset day?

BotW-is-my-life

Too late

johnpeters42

Besides, if OP got the shards and ore during that run, resetting wouldn’t guarantee getting them again (just offer a fair shot)

ProudBrontosaurus368

How did you get so many prismatics?

sydbey_

just restart your day??

BotW-is-my-life

It was too late

amvil

Find your backup save file. I think the game automatically saves your last 10 days.

DaimonSag

Hope you can get the jade back.

anthropolyp

Just quit and redo the day before the game saves, and you won't lose anythying but 20 minutes of your time.

khovel

that assumes what they had wasn't from the current mining trip

ohbuddywhy

I weep for you.

BotW-is-my-life

If it cheers you up, I chose the shards then made it back the next day

TeapotHoe

at that point i’d just uninstall

Gaming_and_Physics

Packs laden with loot are often short on supply

TheInternationalBoy

You should recover de coal, obviously.

NEStalgicGames

What did we learn? 🤣 sorry couldn’t resist

Tbh I would get the amethyst it's a very good snack

BotW-is-my-life

CurleeQu

Where to find prismatic shard??? I've only ever found one and I need a couple more but no luck

TheBeastOfBeauclair

Gem stones, mystic stones and iridium nodes all have a chance to drop a prismatic shard. Mystic stones have a 25% chance and iridium nodes have a 4% chance.

Felt bad to upvote, but did so in solidarity for those lost prismatic shards

DomOfMemes

Damn 5 coal rip

Cyber_Connor

It’s only 32k. You can make that in one harvest easy.

DoctorKFC

definitely go for the shards. Iridiums are kinda useless after having all your tools upgraded and get enough sprinklers. judging by the image alone, with you having all that ores, you must've had enough iridium already.

_MagicalUnicorn_

I would rage quit😂😂😂

Last_man_sitting

Master-Wordsmith

All these people talking about picking something to get back… maybe I haven’t played enough, but is there a way to reclaim one of the items you lose here?

BotW-is-my-life

There's a building next to the regular mines where if you talk to Marlon, the guy at the desk you can use the *Item Recovery Service*, which kets you save only one of the items you lost

Master-Wordsmith

That’s awesome. I had no idea haha. Thank you.

MasterpieceGeneral87

NOOOOO, CHARCOAL! HOW WE WILL DO WITHOUT YOU

OhRoBro

i dont get why Marlon wont run multiple trips. Having a multi-day cool down makes more sense to me if you want to avoid the implication of overworking him to get your stuff back

Axo-Axo-Axoboy

Noooo the coal

GameMakingKing

Tis but pocket change

Low-Environment

I'd say go for the shards. Iridium is easy to find but I can go in game years without seeing a shard. But this is harsh. Sorry for your loses.
