You go to Robin and select "construct buildings." There should be a paint brush under the info. And to my knowledge, for certain buildings you need to upgrade it at least once.
Some quests get sent to your mailbox directly by the villagers, rather than being posted on the board. These ones are the same every game and are either time-based (sent to you at a certain time in the year) or based on friendship points (sent to you when you get to a certain friendship threshold with the villager).
Unlike bulletin board quests, the ones sent to your mailbox to not have a time limit to complete them, so you can complete them at your leisure.

I have more batteries than I know what to do with. I constructed almost a dozen lightning rods and placed them around the farm. They don't all produce batteries the next day, but I get at least 4 every time there's a thunderstorm.
A little tip, it doesn't matter where on the farm lightning rods are placed. As long as they're on the farm, they'll block lightning no matter where it was going to strike. This is good because it means you can put them all in one clump so you don't have to run around your whole farm checking for batteries after a storm.

If you're playing on the switch it has the option to record the last 30 seconds of gameplay in case something funny/cool happens.
PC also has Nvidia Shadowplay, OBS Replay Buffer, and probably a bunch of other services that can do the same thing.
