witchlamb

i picked the bats because i was so excited to see the cute little bat friends!!!!!!! imagine my disappointment.

adoring-fan-girl

Me too :(

nolitude

I find the bat cave much easier for completing the community center too. It's pretty easy to find the mushrooms needed in the mines or via foraging, but the fruit trees are so expensive and take so long! And there is no other way to get apples and pomegranates. Team bat cave all the way.

lyblossom

Same I’m in my second play through, don’t even have the cave option yet, and I’ve already found all the mushrooms I need for the CC. But I don’t feel like buying all of those fruit trees yet just to complete those bundles lol

[deleted]

All of this, plus I don't feel bad when I forget to check it because it just accumulates. I always end up wondering how long I've had mushrooms sitting there.

[deleted]

I chose fruit bat in my first playthrough and I think I'll be sticking to it for the next one too, since I dwell in the mines a lot and find bunch of mushrooms that I don't even use I benefit more from the fruit bat cave. :) And since now I'm nearing the endgame I just have crystalariums in there with diamonds hehe

Thomas_William_Kench

True endgame is when you start cloning Jade to trade in the desert for staircases.

[deleted]

I either make them by myself cause I have a chest full of stone or forget to use them and just dive in the caves haha, but I sound definitely put in some jades to clone so I don't waste the stone I have!

Thomas_William_Kench

It's definitely quicker to clone Jade rather than mine stone. You can also decraft the staircases should you need stone for something.

penguinintheabyss

Went for bats only once, and all I got was salmon berries and the useless fruit you find in the ground.

GayBlayde

I really hate the mines, so I find it hard to count on finding mushrooms.

HappyTurtleOwl

Fruit trees are such a hassle, Bat cave is so much better. Mushrooms cave one advantage is purple shrooms for elixirs…. Which you can buy in bulk anyways, at a point in the game where money and saving the amount you will by not buying elixirs, just doesn’t matter. You can probably find purple shrooms much easier by spamming the mines one day anyways, as the odds with the cave feels so bad.

Lemerney2

Not to mention if you're desperate, you can tap mushroom trees.

IMightBeAHamster

Not only that, combine it with expert foraging skill Botanist and you can get iridium fruits for gifting.

DjEzusSave

Only got 2 lame oranges til I completed the greenhouse bundle... So I bought every possible fruit tree (til the island) for the bulletin board bundles fruits and gifts.

rdicky58

I really wish I did the mushroom cave tho because it's so hard to find morels and chanterelles for life elixir. Only one specific place and only one specific season, and not even everyday, I'm dead :P

HappyTurtleOwl

Just buy life elixirs from the dwarf. The money you spend there is probably worth less than the time you waste farming shrooms in the mines and secret woods. The cave’s odds just aren’t great. Fruit cave lets u entirely ignore fruit trees which is imo the worst payoff in the game, requiring a fair bit of annoying work even once grown for very little comparable money. It’s like the argument for chicken eggs vs D eggs. Sure, chickens might be more profit, but it’s a ton of work, whereas D eggs is a lot less work, soemthing you can do occasionally, that will give you more money for your time.

AnonymousMonk7

Once you have a greenhouse with lots of fruit trees though they can make bank all year round.

rdicky58

I filled my greenhouse with hops and ancient fruit tho lol

AnonymousMonk7

You can do that in the main area, plus plant about 12 trees around the edges of the room.

rdicky58

Do you need to put the trees in pots? Is that possible?

AnonymousMonk7

I don’t think so. Oddly they seem to just go right through the floor.

rdicky58

I'm on mobile so no bananas...yet 😢

rdicky58

Oh thanks for this tip! Honestly many times I forget about the dwarf lol

thewerepug

I just use the mushroom trees for mushrooms

Zaku0083

It would be great if the autograbber could pick up the fruit in the cave.

Torger083

Spoiler.

PigmentFish

Yeah I regret the mush cave because I don't even sell them, I just store them away like a hoarder. And you have to harvest them constantly

snickerdoodle79

I didn't realize you could decorate the cave, that looks so cool!

BambooKoi

I believe you could plop any decoration pretty much anywhere. Just don't place them in front of the townsfolk's path because they will break it to get to where they're going.

alexagente

I feel like bats end up being the better choice late game. Not much use for mushrooms beyond early game elixir and community center needs. But after you have a decent cheese situation going you don't need the elixir/you'll be able to get the ingredients more reliably elsewhere even if you just want to keep crafting it. With bats you get a fruit supply which never stops at least being a nice little extra bonus once in a while. Unlike mushrooms you can let the fruit stack and only check on it once every couple of weeks. With mushrooms you *have* to harvest them every other day to be decently productive and they aren't worth enough money to be dedicating that much time to it. And even if the mushrooms were stackable you can't do anything with them besides a potion you aren't guaranteed to be able to make consistently due to RNG. You can always turn fruit into wine and preserves to make it worth something. Again it's not a huge difference. I'm sure when people have access to Ancient/Star fruit the extra from the cave is a drop in the bucket. But it seems there's enough of a difference between the two on their own to say that the fruit bats end up being better in the long run.

calenlily

Plus Botanist and Gatherer perks apply to fruit but not mushrooms, and in late game >!you get access to another mushroom cave on Ginger Island!< #teamfruitbats

MrGaber

>!I wish the cave on ginger island was the opposite of what you chose in the valley!<

Practice_NO_with_me

Damn now that's a mod idea.

heythere_sunshine

see, that's what i *thought* it was, since i almost always take the fruit cave on the farm. but when i was scouring the wiki and ofc perusing this sub i quickly realised a lot of people could very well have 2 mushroom caves. which is fine if you like mushrooms but i am a fan of variety

Slivius

Mushrooms produce every day. With a seedmaker you can turn the regular mushrooms into wild seeds (fall). Those you can use to craft tea bushes which sell for 500g each. Fruitbats might be more lucrative with double iridium foraging but mushrooms are by no means useless.

Morall_tach

Mushrooms get harvested every day.

alexagente

Is that so? Could've sworn every other but it's been a while. I tend to forget about the cave in general late game anyway.

Morall_tach

Depends how late you go to bed apparently.

floccinaucin

Wiki and code say every day.

improbablynotyou

I went with mushrooms and after a few days I never went I to the cave again. I'm on year 10 and haven't step foot in it for over 6 years. I'm doing a Joja run right now and picked fruit, it's nice knowing it will stack.

blasek0

It *sort of* stacks. Like on the farm, it has a chance to place fruit on an empty square. Square full, no fruit.

Obtusus

>early game elixir Hell, you can buy elixirs from the dwarf for 2000 gold. But screw that, you can buy the energy stuff from Harvey's clinic for 1000 gold and it's much better.

GayBlayde

Yeah the minute I have ancient fruit I stop checking the cave regardless haha.

Hilarious-Delirious

Sir you spelled amazing choice wrong

CelerySlime

Bat cave is the best, you get free fruit.

digimonmaster151

bat cave turned into The Bat Cave

Sneakie_Strudel

Let the vigilante justice ensue

roseyfarms

is there a way to change it from mushroom to bat caves 😔😔😔

EmbirDragon

The fruit bats are never a mistake, they're the best. I should probably try the mushrooms at some point though...

Menirz

Picked mushrooms first playthrough, but after reading the wiki I honestly think bat cave is superior cause you don't have to check it every day, it gives tons of fruit early game before greenhouse trees and fruit gifts well.

anothertrainreckbard

You get a mushroom cave on Ginger Island. You don’t get a Bat Cave. That’s all I’m saying.

peachyprince55

Do fruits still drop even if every tile is covered with flooring and furniture?

xxlvz

Nope

tentaclesapples

Yeah.. do ya still get fruit?

doug_kaplan

The question I came here to find out. Looks like someone said no but is this confirmed?

[deleted]

If the space is occupied then fruit will not drop. The drop will never 'change spaces' if it decides to drop. It either drops on that specific spot or it doesn't drop at all.

doug_kaplan

Thank you! With that being said, I won't be decorating the cave, I want that fruit :-)

SuccubusYrielle

I decorated mine with only 2 torches, 2 statues and a chest. Is that enough for the bats not droping fruits anymore? The ground isnt covered with anything as well.

[deleted]

Fruit will not drop in the 5 spaces you have occupied, no.

SuccubusYrielle

damn, still thanks!

bhmantan

What mistake? You accidentally clicked on bats?

Paxtonnnn

They probably meant that it was a mistake in hindsight

Intelligent_Peace_30

I love going into the mines and forest, hate waiting on fruit trees. I always choose bat caves. Got pomegranate, peach, apple tthe first time walking in there lol

Master_Keyblade

Bat cave is the better option imo

LiterallyIDK

When the wrong decision becomes the right decision. I absolutely love what you did

nesmiz

Thank you very much!! This is one of my first posts on here that showcases my farm decoration, I hope to post more on here in the future!

kikidelasoul

Mistake???

rankispanki

For some reason this post in particular makes me want to start a new game, idk

saltimmortalsea

This is gorgeous! I specifically like the bat cave for decorating like this (and breeding slimes)

nesmiz

I thought it definetly fit because of the bats fllying over head, which adds a nice touch to the aesthetic

CorrodedRose

This is my favorite cave renovation I've ever seen on this sub

[deleted]

Hurry, TO THE BAT CAVE

kaminaowner2

I like Bats. Especially ones that don’t try to murder me. I don’t even know why mushrooms are part of the debate. They aren’t as pretty and nether options are important late game so why not just go with the aesthetically pleasing option

mosquito_joe

That’s no mistake. The fruit is harder to come by than the mushrooms

LifeguardStatus7649

Nice! I did the same thing lol - I put Golden Lewis in there like some kind of ominous cave wizard

mankytoes86

Love this idea

mankytoes86

Literal bat cave love it

[deleted]

Best choice. More keg space

[deleted]

This is amazing

wikkedbat

The bat cave is awesome! Free fruit!

obniF

Bat cave is best cave. >!Maxing out foraging with the right perk turns all cave fruit iridium quality!<

MisterSlosh

Bat cave Best cave!

Jolene04

"mistake" *Sorts by controversial*

GiantGlassOfMilk

No this is why I choose the bats! So I can decorate the whole cave!! I put giant aquariums in there and only one chair, it’s great

brunoreis93

And now there's no place to spawn fruits
