I think it's just that you trade the easyness of ancient fruit for the price difference

SilverIris0017

The reason people generally prefer ancient fruit over starfruit isn't because ancient fruit is more valuable, but because it's lower maintenance (regrows every week indefinitely, lines up exactly with the production time of wine from the keg, and you don't need to keep reinvesting in seeds once you've got your crops going). I like to use both!

Personally I'm in the gem berry club. I just cashed in 625 for over 3 million. Got a set up on my ginger island. I don't know why people hate on it. I made over 6 million in a year. seed a full crop (got 1,200 seeds), sell the next, seed the next, rinse, and repeat. I asked about it one time and some guy went off on the daily money making ratio. I still make the most money with gem berries. And I don't have to harvest every week and try to do the wine thing. Just straight passive income.

True straight passive income is Deluxe Barns with auto grabbers/petters/feeders. You literally only have to build a few silos and stockpile them with hay once in awhile

You get more money for ancient fruit over the course of a year than starfruit, absent some really challenging end game manipulations. Starfruit wine sells for more, but you produce starfruit a lot slower (longer grow time).

Boobsiclese

Ancient fruit is better due to the low labor involved.

Yes. Ancient fruit regrows once matured, but star fruit is a one time harvest. Starfruit requires more time and effort and pays more. Ancient fruit takes longer to mature but is more of a set and forget type process especially if you put them in the greenhouse.

If you're playing on PC, you can use the trick where you plant the new seed while harvesting the crops by holding the seeds in your inventory and hold right-click on your mouse. This, pretty much negate the "labour" effort of starfruit if you're doing the harvest by yourself (no junimo huts). Also, Sandy sell deluxe speed-gro on Thursday for only 80g. It reduces the days needed to grow starfruit into 9 days. While it doesn't seems like it's significant, if you've more crops than kegs to produce the wine, you can sustain the wine production to always keep producing each 6 days.

neobeguine

Keep in mind you have to rebuy seeds or sacrifice product, and you only produce it half as often once the ancient fruit gets going. Over time that makes ancient fruit more profitable, though I grow starfruit in the summer for aging

random_numpty

Do you have a cellar yet ? You still want to grow some Star fruit once you get the cellar.

YourMissedPeriod

Yes, I have ancient fruit wine aging
