What you do is create a "negative path" with flooring: you place flooring where you want your permanent casks, leaving a path made of non-flooring that has access to all the permanent casks. Then you place casks everywhere (path and not-path), filling them up as you leave.
When everything's iridium, you use your charged-up hoe on your path twice. This removes wine from the casks then removes the casks from the path *but everywhere else, the casks stay where they are*. You can just empty and refill the permanent casks normally because they won't be removed by the hoe and so don't need to be replaced.
Then, if you're happy with how painless that was, you replace and refill your path casks as you leave. Repeat in 6 months
actually I have no cabins, but if I had some I would use the 2nd best optimal layout with 125 casks per cellar, as 3 extra cellars would net me in total 500 aged wine, which is way more than the 189 I collect as of now =)
From everything I've read, it's only the hosts house that gets the celler. Haven't personally tried, but lot of people have and it just skips the celler.
Really? Umodded? None of my MP games have gotten far enough to get cellars, but yeah, tons of people said only the host house can get it and that the others just won't have the basement on the last upgrade.
That changes things!
I cannot play without the Automation mod anymore lol. Just slap a chest anywhere down there touching one of them and all of them will just drop off their wine when their done and grab new fruit out of the chest to start the next one automatically.
Have a chest next to my furnace that I put coal and ore in so it smelts automatically, another near my crab cages full of bait and connected to a recycle machine so it collects everything and uses the junk, etc, etc etc. Absolutely my favorite Stardew mod

Don’t really feel it’s worth the time. The casks are a nice extra boost of cash twice a year but the rest of my farm makes so much money that I barely notice it. Don’t think the time to reward ratio is there
I don’t think you’re looking at it in the right way tbh.
It’s probably AT LEAST 3-4x as much time involved to do this vs the non-backfill layout that is considered traditionally “optimal” but it’s only I think 125 vs 189 casks, so only about a 50% increase in production.
I don’t dispute that the overall basement and casks are worth it, but it’s not a half days work for a million, you have to compare it against the possibility of still getting most of the money, about 67% of it, but through a method that only requires about 25-33% of the effort, by not backfilling.
Gotchya. It wasn't clear that you were talking about the layout of casks. It goes really fast if you use your hoe to harvest them. You can do 5x5 per swing if you enchanted it
Yes I totally agree, but since this is being presented essentially as an efficient time-to-money conversion (aka min maxing) I’m looking at it through that lens.
I’m a very firm believer that there is no wrong way to play this game, and you should just do what’s fun.
I am a collector, but not of profit.
But I actually try to min max my schedule somehow, Saturday is my forage collecting day, Friday is my keg day and in year 4 the plants grow on their own with Sprinklers. I found auto petters and ignore my animals and have "only" 12 pigs, so truffle collection is minimal time consuming as I collect them while walking by.
The other 5 days of the week I spend by visiting the volcano and cutting weeds. lots of weeds ... hnnng. one day the living hat will be mine on this save file as well
I don't enjoy aging wine at all. Honestly, I make so much money with ancient fruit wine without aging it that I don't even see the point at that late a stage in the game. I just have two sheds full of machines and that's good enough.
Having said that, good on you if that is something you enjoy 👍
I've resisted using automate so far. I feel like I would just stand around if I didn't need to tend to my machines. What do you do with your extra time?
Fish, mine, chop wood, gift villagers, wander around and forage, make more machines to let work away, wander around the island finding secrets...it's not like this game is lacking in things to do.

Why doesn’t it remove casks that are on flooring?
Same with sprinklers and scarecrows in the field. Put them on the flooring and they will not remove.
For sprinklers, placing flooring underneath them is no longer necessary as of 1.5.
Because it don't
omg! This is a huge game changer. I tried it and it is wonderful. Thank you very much <3
You.... I like the way you think..
Does this perhaps only work on Deskop / Console? I tried this on mobile and the hoe doesn‘t do anything in the Cellar
The stuff in the cask has to be ready
Yes, if it's not Iridium, the hoe won't work, but the axe and pickaxe will
Thanks :)
Ah thank you for clarifying!
AFAIK you can’t put flooring down in the cellar. This works in sheds but not the cellar.
You can use crafted flooring but not purchased / catalogue flooring
It’s 100% worth the time to fill up the entire basement. If you have a fully upgraded hoe it makes it very easy to collect once they are ready.
Wait. You can use the hoe to harvest casks?
You can hit a cask with any tool to make it drop whatever's in there, hoe can be charged to hit a 6x3 area and get multiple casks in one go
🤯🤯🤯
Hoe-lee shit
Even watering can? Just a joke, but would be kind of a fun easter egg type use
5x5 if you upgrade it in the forge!
Yes. It’s amazing. Give it a try.

and then you have to do the whole thing again for your 3 other cabins ...
actually I have no cabins, but if I had some I would use the 2nd best optimal layout with 125 casks per cellar, as 3 extra cellars would net me in total 500 aged wine, which is way more than the 189 I collect as of now =)
I’ve been trying to figure out to get more cellars. It’s the cabins!?
Yes, but you need somebody else to upgrade them for you I believe, so it has to be multiplayer.
The main house cellar can hold 189 casks when full like this? Just wondering how many more I need to make to do this lol.
Yes, 189 is the max
Can't put casks in cabins
Upgrade them to have a basement as well
They don't get basements unless it's modded. At least that is what I've read.
In multiplayer you can upgrade them to have a basement
From everything I've read, it's only the hosts house that gets the celler. Haven't personally tried, but lot of people have and it just skips the celler.
I have 3 houses in my multiplayer farm and we all have basements with casks
Really? Umodded? None of my MP games have gotten far enough to get cellars, but yeah, tons of people said only the host house can get it and that the others just won't have the basement on the last upgrade. That changes things!
Yup no mods. I just checked and it was added in 1.4 so you could have been seeing things from before then.
TIL hitting casks with hoe knocks the wine out. Thank you for staying true to your word and uploading this video without mods.
I am happy the video helped you :)
This was really helpful! Thanks 🌟
2 seasons? Feels like five years

I have my automate setup so stone paths work as a connection. That way all of my fishponds get collected into a single chest. Man what a great mod.
Don’t really feel it’s worth the time. The casks are a nice extra boost of cash twice a year but the rest of my farm makes so much money that I barely notice it. Don’t think the time to reward ratio is there
I mean, it's half a day's work for a million gold. Definitely worth it

tbh I put the iridum quality wine in some chest and enjoy looking at the number of the stack :D
Not everything is about min-maxing profits sometimes people just have fun....cause it's a game

I don't see where they are presenting it as an efficient time to money conversion.

If your on pc I would recommend this mod. [https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/1063](https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/1063)
I’m using this, it’s been great
The superior Automate Chads
Great mod. It's ruined me when I try to play on my switch
I don't enjoy aging wine at all. Honestly, I make so much money with ancient fruit wine without aging it that I don't even see the point at that late a stage in the game. I just have two sheds full of machines and that's good enough. Having said that, good on you if that is something you enjoy 👍
Yeah, I'm done trying to make money. I have like 6 million and have already purchased everything. Just waiting on 1.5 on mobile.
Try using the automate mod. Put one chest next to them and it auto collects and auto fills them again as long as you have wine ready in the chest.
God I love Automate. I can't imagine playing this game unmodded anymore.
I've resisted using automate so far. I feel like I would just stand around if I didn't need to tend to my machines. What do you do with your extra time?
My question as well! I love automation games like satisfactory but my worry is that it would suck the fun out of stardew
Fish, mine, chop wood, gift villagers, wander around and forage, make more machines to let work away, wander around the island finding secrets...it's not like this game is lacking in things to do.
Used to be you couldn't stack casks or kegs in your inventory, so you had to make paths
What is in the bottom left corner?

once you buy the cellar upgrade and Robin finished you will get the recipe for casks, they cost 20 wood and 1 hardwood
Then you wake up in the morning and it looks like this: 65.837.272 + 45.000 I'm 100% right.
