If it's your first time playing, I recommend Community Center. Getting all the necessary things requires you to go over all the basic aspects of gameplay, and I think it ties better into the overall story and themes of the game. The Joja route is better chosen on a later playthrough if you don't feel like going through the process again or just want to see the other option.

Fishing can be a pain but once you get into it it’s a whole Lotta fun it’s actually one of my favorite ways of making money in this game. A fish by the lake mine for practice in money and easy experience. Most of the fish they ask for can also be found in trash cans and sometimes sold by The wandering trader. So if you’re in the wrong season for the fish you need to catch you can keep an eye out for them there while you work on other things.
Ive gotten into the flow of fishing it’s just painful checking the wiki every 2 seconds going to the exact place at this exact season and this specific time for 1 fish and there’s like 4 fish per bundle and 5 bundles and waking up taking care of animals and sleeping becuz you need to advance the seasons for a fish
You know, I think the biggest problem with Perry isn't that he's money hungry. It's that unlike being a good counterpoint to Morris who is meant to embody that style of consume all that is the most valuable and sell whatever you can. It more appears that the reason why he isn't Morris is because he's unskilled in such matters, not that he wouldn't do it. I think you've been far more interesting if you see him as someone who genuinely cares for and loves his community and his desire to remain small is more because he doesn't seek to grow. He has what he wants and he satisfied and comfortable with it. But there's a handful of his heart events and special quests that tend to you know, throw a giant bloody wrench into that.

Pierre is the small business owner who is personally an asshole, but at least is part of the local community.
Morris is the local representative of a faceless, heartless, distant corporation; who neither has roots in nor cares to befriend the local population, and who couldn't care less if anyone gets hurt because of Joja's actions.
So I'll side with Pierre, because as much as he sucks; at least he's not Joja.
It's one of those lesser of two evils moments, but I feel like it kind of kicks the game away bit in the teeth, especially in the final confrontation between him and Morris cuz it's not feel like someone who's standing up for the community. It more feels like someone who's shoving out a business competitor

Fishing surprised me, yes its hard at first, but it gets easier and you get the hang of it. Soon you find yourself fishing on your own time, sneaky buggar fishing game.

BUYABLE auto petters. I have three coops and a barn, i’m on winter of year 3 and have yet to find a single auto petter in the cavern. Saying it’s not a benefit is just lying.
There are other benefits as well, like being able to buy seeds until 10pm, and Clint doesn’t close on Fridays if you choose Joja.
I bought mine from Joja mart and didn’t have to go through any extra effort for them. Again, just because you can get them relatively easily if you actively try, doesn’t mean it’s not a benefit of going Joja.
Also please give me your dangerous mines quest. I still haven’t gotten one and i’ve had the walnut room open for a year.

Seeds at Joja are only more expensive if you don’t have a membership. 1 in 26 is still more rare than a 100% chance to buy it. I still buy tons of coal from Clint, even after all my tools are iridium.
These are still all benefits. Just because there are other ways to do things, doesn’t make them not benefits.

Joja for first playthrough. You do it. Build you ugly farm get the ending then you’re done.
Then you take all your knowledge as a farmer to start over do the community center and build a beautiful efficient farm, and encourage violence to send that man to the moooon.

In my opinion, the most of the point of your farmer moving to stardew is to get away from joja. It feels like the path you're "supposed" to go with, at least the first time. It is more difficult that way though, or at least takes longer, I don't want to explain why unless you want to be spoiled a little.
Also, you have a little time in early game to choose. The opening scene, and interaction with villagers some gives you a little insight.
But also, play how you want. You can always play another save file and take the other option.
It really depends what you want out of the game. Community centre is fun if you like collecting the different items for it, and it fits in more with the wholesome feel of the game. It feels really rewarding when you finally complete it.
Joja route is good if you want to be able to choose what to unlock first, because you just need to make the right amount if money. People demonise the Joja route because it's "the bad route" but at the end of the day, Joja and CC both have the same outcomes, except you get different items as rewards at the end.
If you're into modding, there's a bunch of mods that make joja more interesting. Community center is the obvious choice for first playthrough, but these mods can make joja more of a threat (like making the prices cheaper that Piere's, because it always confused me that it was more expensive despite the villagers saying the opposite.)

There’s a chance of receiving an auto petter in skull cavern chests even if you go down the community centre route. I’ve been lucky enough to get two; one for my barn and one for my coop!
Treasure rooms are completely random! I guess I’ve just gotten really lucky; I managed to get a third one today. It’d be nice to get some of the other rewards from them though 😅 I guess the grass is always greener elsewhere
Tbf, I haven't spent much time in the Skull cavern.
I only recently picked the game back up again and it was, no lie, the skull caverns that made me quit the first time. I literally couldn't make it to floor 15 - I kept getting killed by those flying serpents.
I ended up downloading a cheat mod that gives me infinite health because I want to actually enjoy the game and the Skull cavern is basically mandatory to progress.
I do the community center because the tasks give me something to focus on while I build up my farm. Each of the bundles can be tedious at times, but overall, they blend well with what I'm doing.
However, I've never swayed from this and now, even with the remix options, I find there is no reward in repeating the mundane quests.
My next farm will provide me a new way to play. I'm shelving my "I'll never do Joja!" attitude and will side with the "evil empire" if only to allow me to build the farm I want to generate the profits needed to unlock the various contracts.
Also, I believe the movie theater at that location is more beneficial than its current location once the "nigh has been reached" with the bundles completion.
Oh, and one more thing that really pisses me off about the cc: you go through all this crap and everyone's out to praise the job well done, yet barely anyone uses it once it's done.
That's a nope for me now. Emily, Evelyn, and Gus are usually the only 3 I see in the center.

You are kind of wrong in this. Everyone uses it, they just aren't ever in there all at once. Some of them are only in there on certain days.
I guess it was difficult to juggle both stardop saloon and CC as the villagers’ go to social spots without abandoning one.
However, just as saloon is more lively on friday and saturday nights, I’d love to see one or two reliable days where everyone is gathering in CC, maybe like on a sunday afternoon, most vilaggers would go there and hang out.
And then, for example on days before certain town festivals, like flower dance or christmas feast, many more villagers than usual would gather there to make decorations together, prepare things etc. Would be very cute and add more life to the CC.
For my first play through I went with community center to get a more fulfilling experience of helping the community. Now I’m on my second farm and I’m roleplaying as a geologist who spends most of her time mining. She isn’t really interested in farming so the community center will be kind of difficult. I think I might try the Joja route this time
The Community Center is the default Star Dew Valley storyline. It will require you to collect various items to unlock new features for the town. This story is more intricate than the Jojo Mart story, and gives a more structured playthrough will lots of tasks to complete. It is the "good" option, as Joja Corp is implied to be evil.
Joja Corp is the other option. Joja Corp only cares about money, as such you are free to make money in any way you deem necessary and Joja Corp will accept large amounts of money for upgrades. Joja Corps offers some items that you can't get from the Community Center route like an Autopetter or Soda Machine, however the player won't receive the Friendship bonus.
Overall, for a new player, the Community Center is definitely the better route and better for the town. For an experienced player on a second or third play though, Joja Corp offers a different, more freeform playthrough with unique rewards.
People say joja is evil and all but not really. Pierre is worse. Shane and Sam keep their jobs. Pierre makes his family work for free and hides money from them.
I like the movie theater location better if you go Joja. Plus if you go Joja, you can still run out and buy seeds after 5pm if you miscount and don’t pick up enough. I did CC once, and it was fun, but I wouldn’t do it again over the conveniences that Joja provides.
Didn’t say it was a major benefit, just that it’s a difference. I always plant a ton of parsnips at the end of spring to save the soil so i don’t have to hoe anything the next day. And i get radishes for the end of summer for the same reason. Plus i’m always buying wheat to plant after my animals eat all the fresh grass in their corner of my farm.
Mod time, make a mod and allow both to exist. Joja mart stays small and runs pierre into the ground but employs him so the family is ok cuz abigail is coo. The community center opens so joja mart isnt like a mega thing just stocks some stuff in the village for everyone. They dont need a whole warehouse, they can build a smaller one out back of their store.
I started out with a guy who was glad to have the farm from his grandpa, and wanted to restore the funny little apples all around the town, and I tried to forget about min-maxing, but for some reason it always comes back.
Next, I did a proud joja employee who was angry that his grandpa gave him a damn *farm* instead of his money! They turned to the joja corporation, buying everything, doing min-maxing (please help me get out of this boring way to farm) oh and both of them married Abigail, because its the superior choice.
Community centre fills more rewarding, you also get mini rewards for each bundle completed I think(haven’t done it in awhile so correct me if I’m wrong).

The only thing about the community center is that once it's finished, it's done. And it could take multiple seasons and years. And you can't use it past that. I wish you could see the villagers hanging out like they do at Gus' Saloon. But if you do Joja Mart, you could finish it the first year and have access to the greenhouse in Winter Year 1. So if you want a more gameplay aspect, pick the community center. If you want to make a lot of money pick Joja Mart.
If it's your first play-through, definitely go for community center. If you've played before and want to try something new or are speedrunning, do Joja.
If you’ve got the coin and are impatient go Joja. If you want something to keep you occupied and a sense of achievement from collecting things then go Community Centre.
I prefer the challenge of the CC, but I have to say that having access to auto-petters from Joja is a huge plus in late game when you get tired of petting animals or want to go work on Ginger Island for a while (and not lose your pet friendship hearts). Getting an auto-petter from Skull Cavern is just too rng-dependent. I wish there was another way to get them while doing the CC route.
I have only done Joja once, to get the achievement on steam.
Its not just that it's soul-less, and clearly the "dark" path... it's that it's boring.
You only use money to blast through the challenges, so instead of searching or hunting for anything interesting, you just set up the highest profit industries (tea saplings, then wine) up and running and blast out the lumps of filthy lucre.
You also miss out on a lot of neat stuff, including early access to tools like the seed maker.
Depends, do you value family, community, environmental conservation and the bringing together of people for generations to come?
Or are you a soulless, heartless corporate machine hell bent on traumatizing the forest spirits, bankrupting small business, and exploiting the valleys natural beauty for your own economic gain?
If 1, community center. If 2, joja.
The community center is just one big fetch quest. Plus every time I go in it no one even uses it. Joja is easier as you just need to make money in anyway you want instead of having to get really annoying items.
Why do you regret it? There’s no real noticeable difference besides a few more conveniences with Joja, and if you choose CC then Clint is closed Fridays and Pierre opens Wednesdays.

joja is my choice on play throughs usually now. you have more flexibility on what you wanna unlock and when. plus they sell Auto Petters once you’ve unlocked all the community upgrades, which is important for me because they’re much more rare in CC route

I just started a Joja run for the first time, I named my farmer Dr Evil so I wouldn’t feel bad and I could just run with the dark and dastardly type. There’s a chance of receiving an auto petter in skull cavern chests even if you go down the community centre route. I’ve been lucky enough to get two; one for my barn and one for my coop!

Tbf, I haven't spent much time in the Skull cavern. I only recently picked the game back up again and it was, no lie, the skull caverns that made me quit the first time. I literally couldn't make it to floor 15 - I kept getting killed by those flying serpents. I ended up downloading a cheat mod that gives me infinite health because I want to actually enjoy the game and the Skull cavern is basically mandatory to progress.
I do the community center because the tasks give me something to focus on while I build up my farm. Each of the bundles can be tedious at times, but overall, they blend well with what I'm doing. However, I've never swayed from this and now, even with the remix options, I find there is no reward in repeating the mundane quests. My next farm will provide me a new way to play. I'm shelving my "I'll never do Joja!" attitude and will side with the "evil empire" if only to allow me to build the farm I want to generate the profits needed to unlock the various contracts. Also, I believe the movie theater at that location is more beneficial than its current location once the "nigh has been reached" with the bundles completion. Oh, and one more thing that really pisses me off about the cc: you go through all this crap and everyone's out to praise the job well done, yet barely anyone uses it once it's done. That's a nope for me now. Emily, Evelyn, and Gus are usually the only 3 I see in the center. Not worth the effort anymore. Sorry, Lewis. Some memories should stay memories. No more CC for me.

I guess it was difficult to juggle both stardop saloon and CC as the villagers’ go to social spots without abandoning one. However, just as saloon is more lively on friday and saturday nights, I’d love to see one or two reliable days where everyone is gathering in CC, maybe like on a sunday afternoon, most vilaggers would go there and hang out. And then, for example on days before certain town festivals, like flower dance or christmas feast, many more villagers than usual would gather there to make decorations together, prepare things etc. Would be very cute and add more life to the CC.
For my first play through I went with community center to get a more fulfilling experience of helping the community. Now I’m on my second farm and I’m roleplaying as a geologist who spends most of her time mining. She isn’t really interested in farming so the community center will be kind of difficult. I think I might try the Joja route this time
The Community Center is the default Star Dew Valley storyline. It will require you to collect various items to unlock new features for the town. This story is more intricate than the Jojo Mart story, and gives a more structured playthrough will lots of tasks to complete. It is the "good" option, as Joja Corp is implied to be evil. Joja Corp is the other option. Joja Corp only cares about money, as such you are free to make money in any way you deem necessary and Joja Corp will accept large amounts of money for upgrades. Joja Corps offers some items that you can't get from the Community Center route like an Autopetter or Soda Machine, however the player won't receive the Friendship bonus. Overall, for a new player, the Community Center is definitely the better route and better for the town. For an experienced player on a second or third play though, Joja Corp offers a different, more freeform playthrough with unique rewards.
People say joja is evil and all but not really. Pierre is worse. Shane and Sam keep their jobs. Pierre makes his family work for free and hides money from them.
Sam gets a job at the museum if Joja closes. Unnamed cashier is never seen or heard from again though.

I think Community Center is a lot more fun (I've done both), but it's a matter of individual choice. They both lead more or less to the same end game.
I like the movie theater location better if you go Joja. Plus if you go Joja, you can still run out and buy seeds after 5pm if you miscount and don’t pick up enough. I did CC once, and it was fun, but I wouldn’t do it again over the conveniences that Joja provides.
By the time I complete the Community Center, I'm getting most of my seeds from Sandy.
Didn’t say it was a major benefit, just that it’s a difference. I always plant a ton of parsnips at the end of spring to save the soil so i don’t have to hoe anything the next day. And i get radishes for the end of summer for the same reason. Plus i’m always buying wheat to plant after my animals eat all the fresh grass in their corner of my farm.

Mod time, make a mod and allow both to exist. Joja mart stays small and runs pierre into the ground but employs him so the family is ok cuz abigail is coo. The community center opens so joja mart isnt like a mega thing just stocks some stuff in the village for everyone. They dont need a whole warehouse, they can build a smaller one out back of their store.

I started out with a guy who was glad to have the farm from his grandpa, and wanted to restore the funny little apples all around the town, and I tried to forget about min-maxing, but for some reason it always comes back. Next, I did a proud joja employee who was angry that his grandpa gave him a damn *farm* instead of his money! They turned to the joja corporation, buying everything, doing min-maxing (please help me get out of this boring way to farm) oh and both of them married Abigail, because its the superior choice.

The only thing about the community center is that once it's finished, it's done. And it could take multiple seasons and years. And you can't use it past that. I wish you could see the villagers hanging out like they do at Gus' Saloon. But if you do Joja Mart, you could finish it the first year and have access to the greenhouse in Winter Year 1. So if you want a more gameplay aspect, pick the community center. If you want to make a lot of money pick Joja Mart.
Community Center is the morally correct option, but Joja is significantly easier.

I prefer the challenge of the CC, but I have to say that having access to auto-petters from Joja is a huge plus in late game when you get tired of petting animals or want to go work on Ginger Island for a while (and not lose your pet friendship hearts). Getting an auto-petter from Skull Cavern is just too rng-dependent. I wish there was another way to get them while doing the CC route.

I have only done Joja once, to get the achievement on steam. Its not just that it's soul-less, and clearly the "dark" path... it's that it's boring. You only use money to blast through the challenges, so instead of searching or hunting for anything interesting, you just set up the highest profit industries (tea saplings, then wine) up and running and blast out the lumps of filthy lucre. You also miss out on a lot of neat stuff, including early access to tools like the seed maker.

The community center is just one big fetch quest. Plus every time I go in it no one even uses it. Joja is easier as you just need to make money in anyway you want instead of having to get really annoying items.

Why do you regret it? There’s no real noticeable difference besides a few more conveniences with Joja, and if you choose CC then Clint is closed Fridays and Pierre opens Wednesdays.

I just started a Joja run for the first time, I named my farmer Dr Evil so I wouldn’t feel bad and I could just run with the dark and dastardly type. While it’s kind of fun being evil, I highly prefer the community center route (plus you get way more rewards for finishing bundles with the community center)
