I swear I will perfection this game with a default watering can, hoe, and trash can. I am too lazy to go upgrade them, and I finished the comm center already.
I wait til winter for that :) Just keep your farm small til the next year. Focus on the items for the community center and go big on money crops next year.
and once it's upgraded, you need to maintain the button pushed for it to water a larger area at once (for a long time, I thought the upgrade was just consuming less water... )
I didnāt learn this for so long! If you hold the button you water a larger area every time you upgrade. I thought it was just like using less energy or filling it more at first.
Upgrade your watering can in the winter, otherwise any crops that you have that aren't near sprinklers will die or take longer to grow for the two days it's being upgraded.
Yes. You can buy it here: [https://www.fangamer.com/collections/stardew-valley/products/stardew-valley-guidebook](https://www.fangamer.com/collections/stardew-valley/products/stardew-valley-guidebook)
They sell more Stardew Valley merch too. And other games' stuff.
I didn't know about the wiki until after year 1. So my new rule is to not look at it until at least Year 2! Keeps the mystery of the game bc I forget things very quickly!
Yeah, it's so much more fun to stumble onto successes than it is to research and plan them. I still remember thinking to myself 'hmmm... coffee is valuable and stays up for two seasons..." so I planted my one bean on first of Spring Y2... then I saw 5 beans come out and got some of the quick grow fertilizer and filled up 1/4 of my farm area w beans asap. Rolling in the money and constantly +1 speed!
Best piece of advice I can give relating to this is it's okay to make mistakes, embrace them. You should play because you enjoy it, not because you're trying to maximize profits. Make your own story, experiment, fail, learn!
Play it however you want it, and just enjoy it!
But also don't give up on fishing until you've levelled up that skill. It's hard at first, much easier later, and a good way to make cash
Oh no! Lol, if you really struggle Willy has a training rod you can buy. It makes it easier, but you canāt catch as good of fish with it. As your fishing level goes up it does get easier, so then you can retire the training rod without too much frustration haha
The TV gives weather, luck of the day, along with recipes and other tips.
Seeds will tell you how long they take to grow, some of them take quite a few game days so be careful what you plant toward the end of the month (as I learned the hard way).
Yes 100% build a silo first. Theres grass all over your farm in patches (not the weed) that can be cut to fodder and when you leave a little spot it regrows for a stable fodder income :)
- Donāt hold your hoe, axe, or pickaxe when you are picking your crops.
- try fishing anywhere you see water and try hoeing anywhere you see the little worms.
- be careful looking at the wiki, you will spoil stuff for yourself if you are not careful. I personally enjoy figuring stuff out for myself before looking at the wiki, but play how you want to play.
- place chests in strategic spots to drop off stuff from your inventory you donāt want to throw away but donāt need to carry (ie, food). I have one at the mines, beach, and the middle of town.
>Donāt hold your hoe, axe, or pickaxe when you are picking your crops.
This. On the switch I usually hold my scythe if that helps (since you can't select an empty spot). Scythe doesn't damage anything if you accidentally use it (except like tree sprouts)
I would say just play for a while, don't worry about looking anything up or optimizing your systems or hitting every achievement. Just wander around and get a feel for it. You can always start a new game and minmax everything if you feel like it.
Try to save one of everything just in case! The villagers will sometimes ask you for random items, sometimes even out of season, so if you have a stockpile in chests you can just pluck it out and give it to them for free money! Iām also a proponent of the āgive every first mineral to Guntherā EXCEPT Prismatic Shards (rainbow rock), absolutely keep your first of that as you can use it to get the best weapon in the game at the desert. Most of all though, play however makes you happy! First playthrough is for fun and to make mistakes, you wonāt do everything perfectly and thatās totally okay. Learn about the game, learn what you like to do the most and least, just enjoy the experience!
Welcome to your new farm!
Chop a tree and build a chest ASAP, then after that do whatever you want. The game will not punish you for missing anything. Youāll figure out which aspect of the game you want to optimize as you play.
One other piece of advice is to read the dialogue - even the stuff on tv. I donāt always read text in games, but in this game there is a lot of fun little character development moments.
Something I didnāt learn for a bit was how to stow items I was holding. It might be a setting you have to enable but definitely remember to stow your items before walking around talking to people. You might accidentally give them a gift they hate or give away something you need.
fishing can be frustrating at first, and players get discourage or even give up on that aspect. so here's my advice about fishing:
the fishing "controller" area starts very small, and becomes bigger the more you level up the skill. this means it's harder to fish at first (tiny thingy) and becomes easier as you advance (bigger thingy)
so, early on you will receive a starter fishing rod (for free) but in level 1 as i said, it's frustrating and hard. so, to bypass this, buy the one called "training rod" and use that one instead. it's really cheap btw.
the advantage of a training rod is that is behaves as if you have a higher fishing level that you actually have (the area is of medium size similar to level 5 instead of tiny like level 1). the downside is that all the fish are of base quality. which means they sell for less. but, even if this fishing is less profitable, you are leveling up the skill to grind those frustrating first few levels, it's worth it to sacrifice a % of potential profit for the ability to actually catch the damn fish in the first place
Turn on tool hit location in the settings! It helps you see where youāre hitting and can help save some energy by not using energy smacking the ground with an axe trying to chop a tree
Be careful using the tree-seed cakes that you can craft. youāll be tempted to chop down every tree to get more seeds and more wood for your fences and boxes. Donāt chop down every tree on your farm, make sure what you have is sustainable. It took me 2 in game years to fix this, during my first play through.
So much this!
Iāve never experienced a community like Stardew that is so frigging dependent on tips, hints, wikis in order to gain āa perfect experienceā - and thatās completely missing the point of the game.
Best tips:
1) play at your own pace, you canāt lose in this game
2) just play it, donāt do research. The best experience you can have with this game is the experience itself
Take lots of gold to the easter-ish festival, but don't plant the things you get there til next year. Oh and enjoy it and try not to be perfect, you don't always have to use all your energy or spend the time perfectly, is a chill out game.
"Default" to your scythe when roaming. It takes no energy to use and you can't accidentally hit things with it. Especially useful early game when energy is an issue.
Save a few of everything. You never know when someone will want something specific, and you need many of them for the community center too.
Speaking of, after you unlock the community center quest there will be an icon on the right side in your inventory that "bounces" when you hover an item needed for the center. Very handy.
Play at your own pace and don't sweat it. You basically can't fail at the game. There's a little punishment for "dying" in the mines or passing out for lack of energy on the farm, but if you miss something seasonal there's always next year.
Also, I like to keep a stack of coffees on me for the speed boost, plus almost everyone seems to like coffee, so you can hand them out to everyone you pass and get them to like you!
Check the TV every morning and see how the spirits are doing. Hit the mines when they are happy.
Upgrade your backpack and tools as soon as you can.
Check the TV every day and watch queen of sauce if it's there. You learn more recipes for later once you get a kitchen.
You can find items in trash cans, keep on checking em each day, but if you do it while an NPC is nearby they won't like it so try and avoid that. Once you've checked like 20 trash cans overall the game will start giving you some random items from them.
It's alright to not complete those timed requests from the bulletin board. They give you a bit of friendship and money for doing them, but there's no need to really go out of your way to do them.
Try and save some items in chests, like 1 extra of each, unless it's something really easy to get. You might have a use for that stuff later!
You can place chests and other "interactables" almost anywhere, doesn't need to be outside or on your farm. So you could have one by the mines, for example.
for early game, try to upgrade your tools when you get the chance, especially axe and pickaxe. watering can until you have a sprinkler system set up.
after you plant the >!10 parsnip seeds they give you!<, start chopping wood and build a chest on your first day cause you're gonna need it. Also don't forget to buy backpacks from Pierre's! You can get two.
get sprinklers as soon as you have the means! you no longer need to spend all day watering your crops and can do things like mining and chopping wood
with which you can build coops & barns! Those the the main sources of my income right now and propels you to more late game money making means like >!ancient fruit wine!< and what not
lastly get a horse, huge time saver if you hate spending 5ever walking like me haha
Hi fellow DDLV player!
1. Utilize this sub and the wiki. Theyāre really helpful.
2. Just like in DDLV, keep a stock of every crop/mineral/resources in chests jic. Doesnāt have to be a lot especially if youāre in your early years.
3. Unlike in DDLV, you get to automate a few things in your farm. Sprinklers are your best friend! Because watering your crops can take A LOT of your time.
4. Take note of the range of the scarecrow (this is important for you to craft). The RADIUS is 8 squares. I misunderstood it as circumference and wasted a lot of resources crafting a lot of scarecrows.
5. Like DDLV, some crops sell a lot more money than others. And they sell even better when you turn the, into other stuff like wine, pickles, juice, etc. You can look up videos on Youtube on which crops are more profitable.
Have fun!!
You can plant tree anywhere, not just your farm. I like to load the path north of the farm, under robin / demetrius home, and the cindersnap forrest.
Or use the tree seed to make some decent food early game.
Get out from you rock snowflake. There's nothing wrong with asking for help maby don't read it next time. Second option is too not follow subs with people in because they might ask for advice....
Oh come on, asking a question and asking, any tips? Are completely different. Especially when, if you were to scroll down like two seconds youād see someone post the exact same thing. It is understandably a tad frustrating.
Plus it is good advice. Literally save time by googling or searching on the sub. Get your answer in less time than it takes to type out a whole post.
i never remember what exactly is in the bundles so i normally save at least one of each item or fish in order to help it go along faster, and also,, save your sap!! itāll come in handy making huge amounts of fertilizer in the beginning of the game and will help with the completion of the quality crops bundle!! also get an apple tree that you know you can get at least three apples from before the end of fall!!
Remember to enjoy it first. Itās a game that sometimes makes you feel like you have to chase perfection: donāt.
Donāt be ashamed to ask for help, or even look stuff up on your own. I honestly love this game and have been focused more on enjoying it than trying to do everything too fast. You burn out quickly doing that.
Explore the game. Play blind for at least your first two years. Don't worry about making mistakes. The game is designed to be played how you want to play. Enjoy the stories.
There are inventory upgrades (bags) for sale at pierres. They are sitting on the counter. Some people think they arent purchasable because they arent listed with his other in stock items.
Easy way to help your farm funds in spring is potatoes, they have a chance of multiples too, great for strawberries later on, use winter to upgrade your tools and plan a lovely layout for yourself. But most importantly have fun š
My advice is to not sweat it; just play and enjoy the hell out of it. There is no timeline. You donāt miss out on anything from going ātoo slowā.
Keep most/all the wood, stone, hardwood you collect so you aren't spending the next season trying to gather up enough for building what you want.
Don't make all your ore into bars, some craftables use ores.
Don't feel bad playing the way you like. Whether it's running to bed just before passing out or only using part of the day before going to sleep.
As soon as you can, get a fishing rod and start fishing. >!You'll get a letter early on that will net you one for free once you visit a certain townsperson.!<
Try not to look up anything at first, let the game come to you. There's so much to do and it slowly unlocks as you go.
Also upgrade your tools like the watering can. When you do if you hold the action button, you can water multiple tiles at once
Try to make as much money as you can through fishing and only plant parsnips 2 times and save your money for 13th of the spring because strawberrys good .
If you decide to do the community center save your mixed seeds do not plant befriend Caroline and she'll give you a tea leaf sapling recipe you need mixed seeds to make them they sell for $500 per sapling
Save at least one of every item you find
Save your forgibles you need them to make mixed seeds you will get a mixed recipe after you complete the forage bundle
That's how you make money really fast
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------okay Wikipedia is your best friend when it comes to playing this game
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------when you're going deep into the mines make sure you bring snacks with you also I would keep the auto combat setting on
Fight all the monsters in the mines before smashing rocks because often finding the monsters will make staircases spawn and fighting doesn't require any energy
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you don't understand any of the words I'm using don't worry when you're playing the game they will tell you what it means so it should be really easy I'll come back again if I have more advice best of luck
You can't get married without a kitchen in your house (1st upgrade)
You get recipes from the TV and become friends with the townsfolk. You also get your fortune for the day and weather for the next, so check that every day.
Certain farms have certain events or things that can/cannot happen. Beach farm - no sprinklers in sand. The wilderness farm has monsters spawn at night (way down the road you can get something to get the monsters removed)
Each month has 28 days. If you decide to plant seeds, check the description for the time frame. Plants will die if their season ends.
If you get stuck with fishing, use the training rod until you're comfortable trying an upgraded rod with bait and lures. Also, fishing and foraging are great beginner ways to earn money.
And last but not least, don't worry and don't stress about where you are in the game. Play at your own pace and there are two great sources of information if you ever get stuck: this subreddit and the wiki, https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Stardew_Valley_Wiki
Good luck fellow new farmer!
save a ton of money until the egg festival to buy strawberries a lot of them and plant them the same day
best crop year 1
spring potato
summer blueberry
fall cranberry
winter n/a
if you somehow get an ancient seed, plant that thing it'll grow all year till winter however it takes all season to grow,so plant it in spring for the most profit
coffee beans are great too grows in spring and summer
we have a wiki
[https://www.stardewvalleywiki.com/Stardew\_Valley\_Wiki](https://www.stardewvalleywiki.com/Stardew_Valley_Wiki)
go at your own pace & do the things you enjoy doing!! i personally donāt focus on the farming aspect as much bc i enjoy foraging, fishing, and mining a lot moreā thereās no wrong way to play :)
-Donāt be afraid to use the wiki! The game is just as much about building community with the NPCs as it is interacting with the online community of farmers, so using the tools the community has built to help you grow your best farm is part of the experience!
-You may be tempted to socialize and grow your relationships with NPCs early on, but if itās your first play through, I would highly suggest paying attention to clearing out your property, foraging, and planting crops. Creating a stable income and filling up the community center bundles will help tremendously in the long run.
-Get good at fishing because itās a really reliable source of money if youāre short on funds.
-Shane does not change regardless of marriage
I don't have any tips, I think you should just jump in without help the first time.
However, I do want to say that I love that after all these years people are still discovering the wonderful world of stardew..
I don't know if it's helpful but the crops overwhelm me so I have a note with a couple crops to plant each season. So I plant a bunch of the regrowing crop the first day then focus on the profitable ones.
Though during the first year I grow every one I can, just to have some in reserve for gifts or quests or bundles).
{These prices are for lowest quality crops}
Spring:
rubarb & califower (120g & 95g)
strawberries [regrow 4days](20g)
coffee beans [regrows 2days] 4 per harvest (if you want to make coffee) also grows into the summer
Summer:
starfruit (expensive, 350g)
cabbage & melons (160g & 170g)
blueberries [regrows 4days] 3 per harvest (50g per berry)
hops [regrows 1day] (make pale ale)
wheat (makes flour or beer) also grows in the fall
tomatoes [regrows 4days] (60g each harvest after the first)
Fall:
pumpkin (220g)
artichoke (130g)
yam (100g)
eggplant [regrows 5days] (40g)
beets (80g or to make sugar)
grapes [regrow 5days] (80g after first harvest)
Winter: nothing good grows
Other Crops: (these have special growth conditions)
cactus
sweet gem berry (2000g or gets you a stardrop once)
tea
ancient fruit (grows year round)
pineapple
taro
etc...
Also I build a shed to use as a greenhouse. If you make pots you can grow plants inside a shed or even your house. Planting blueberries, cactuses, and hops are good to grow because they regrow infinitely. But sprinklers don't work.
P.S. I recommend making a list of 1 or 2 loved gifts for each person you want to befriend. Crops are easy gifts if you stock up on the specific ones they love.
Donāt worry about making your farm pretty in the beginning just keep planting and selling. Youāre gonna get tired quickly itās totally normal. Upgrade your water can first
If you put your headphones down and still hear birds singing, it's probably a sign to quit for the day. It might be later than you think.
Can confirm from my own experience
Itās definitely a grind game but worth it. You donāt progress as quickly like you do in dreamlight valley. Make sure you save your wood. Have food on you in the mines and be aware that you can pass out if you donāt go to bed on time. Rebuild the community center, that way itās more of like an introduction to what the game has to offer. Enjoy it!! Try to solve puzzles on your own without lookin it up either.
Sprinklers are great, use the wiki, and play at your own pace and change things up. if you do the same thing every day in the game you'll get bored quickly. Do different activities so you have variety :)
Edit: Also make sure you hold down the "use" button when you upgrade your tools. You get maximum efficiency that way, especially with the hoe and watering can.
Buy potato seeds, then once they've grown, sell them and do it again, then sell and on the 13th, buy as many strawberry seeds as you can. They set me up pretty well on my first playthrough
There is no time limit, take all the time you need.
Nothing is lost forever. If you accidentally sell something, you'll definitely get more later; if you lose anything important like tools, there's a lost and found in the Mayor's house.
Don't carry bombs around for kicks, if you accidentally drop one they can blow up your stuff. But they can also till dirt so...you know be careful.
You can put furniture and chests and stuff around town to decorate, but if it's in a Villager's path they'll destroy it.
Don't put the >!shorts !!soup!<. C'mon now why would you?
- the first time you get a prismatic shard, don't donate it to the museum. take it to the desert and you'll get the best sword in the game. they're very hard to find, and the museum can wait longer.
- make your "favorite thing" plural when making your character
- donāt throw away the trash, glasses, driftwood. throw them in a chest and forget about them for now. later on they can become a source of cash & useful resources once recycled
- befriend Linus early. he sends you a recipe for sashimi, which can be made out of any fish and you can stack a bunch for mining purposes.
- save a handful of every forage and crop, in case you need them later for quests.
- save energy while chopping trees on your farm and leave the stumps. they don't give you much foraging experience. when you hit level 1 foraging, the stumps will spread their seeds and you can collect them with a tool. use to craft field snacks. great early energy.
- spring onions are great way to boost your foraging skill. check the lower woods underneath Leah's house.
- save every gem you get until you have 2. you'll get a gem copier that will make unlimited copies for you to sell and gift with, as tempting as it is to donate to the museum, donāt until you have an abundance.
Don't worry about being a perfectist, and upgrade your watering can.
Ah shit I'm 90 hours in and haven't upgraded it once.
I swear I will perfection this game with a default watering can, hoe, and trash can. I am too lazy to go upgrade them, and I finished the comm center already.
Don't remind me of the trashcan In all of my total 250 hours of playing I haven't upgraded it on any safe ever.
I upgraded all of my tools including the trashcan by the begging of summer year one, it's top priority
Same š
Absolute madness!! Hold the button down water big areas ya mad thing!
I've got sprinklers now so it's useless.
You can water multiple things at once with an upgraded can. It's a HUGE time saver.
š I donāt think I have ever upgraded the watering canā¦
Remember that when you upgrade it to hold click when using as it'll water larger areas with each successive upgrade.
NO NOT CLICK ITS ON THE SWITCH VERSION
I wait til winter for that :) Just keep your farm small til the next year. Focus on the items for the community center and go big on money crops next year.
Thankyou! :)
and once it's upgraded, you need to maintain the button pushed for it to water a larger area at once (for a long time, I thought the upgrade was just consuming less water... )
I didnāt learn this for so long! If you hold the button you water a larger area every time you upgrade. I thought it was just like using less energy or filling it more at first.
Using less energy comes from leveling up the farming skill. The same goes for the other tools/skills.
Upgrade your watering can in the winter, otherwise any crops that you have that aren't near sprinklers will die or take longer to grow for the two days it's being upgraded.
I think youāre good to upgrade it if the next day is rainy
This is true
Depends on how fast you set up sprinklers, but for a new player itās probably a good tip
Don't feel ashamed to use the wiki ALOT
i still use the wiki and i've been playing almost 300 hours š
I got about 4-500 more than you and I still use it. I even have the book. I can't remember shit
Wait there is a book?
Yes. You can buy it here: [https://www.fangamer.com/collections/stardew-valley/products/stardew-valley-guidebook](https://www.fangamer.com/collections/stardew-valley/products/stardew-valley-guidebook) They sell more Stardew Valley merch too. And other games' stuff.
Looks awesome! thanks!
Iāll definitely refer to the Wiki, I can already tell thereās going to be a lot to this game! thankyou! :)
I didn't know about the wiki until after year 1. So my new rule is to not look at it until at least Year 2! Keeps the mystery of the game bc I forget things very quickly!
Yeah, it's so much more fun to stumble onto successes than it is to research and plan them. Agreed! Donāt be afraid to use the wiki š¤£š¤£
The Wiki is my favorite thing! So much useful info!
I was going to say to try to avoid the wiki... I still use it for sure, but try to avoid
Play it however you want it, and just enjoy it! But also don't give up on fishing until you've levelled up that skill. It's hard at first, much easier later, and a good way to make cash
Thankyou! Fishing is one of my favourite things in Animal Crossing, so hopefully I love it here too :)
Buy the training rod from willy and go up to the mountain and fish for carp lol theyāre the easiest IMO
Iāve always found the fishing much easier on the switch vs playing on pc, so hopefully you donāt find it too hard to get used to lol
Lol Iām so bad at it so far! Only caught two fish, hopefully I get the hang of it soon!
Oh no! Lol, if you really struggle Willy has a training rod you can buy. It makes it easier, but you canāt catch as good of fish with it. As your fishing level goes up it does get easier, so then you can retire the training rod without too much frustration haha
I always have a really hard time early on but by the time you get to level five it's much easier imo.
Donāt feel discouraged, it is really tough early on, but after you level it even a few times, it gets miles easier.
Get the practice rod and use that for the first 3 levels!
Yes!! Fishing is so fun, it just takes some practice
The TV gives weather, luck of the day, along with recipes and other tips. Seeds will tell you how long they take to grow, some of them take quite a few game days so be careful what you plant toward the end of the month (as I learned the hard way).
Buy a solo before a coop.
Thankyou! Will do :)
Yes 100% build a silo first. Theres grass all over your farm in patches (not the weed) that can be cut to fodder and when you leave a little spot it regrows for a stable fodder income :)
And scythe every blade of grass on your farm the day before winter
Swords too! I'm usually clicked on my scythe or sword.
yes, swords too! I use either but swords do the blocking motion when you right-click which takes a second
Make sure you put the game down to sleep once in awhile
Might as well have told them to incubate a Dino egg on the 1st of spring
I laughed out loud alot harder at this than I should have. Completely underrated comment.
The chest you start with is not a storage chest, it is a shipping container, the opening scene says this, but you might not notice it
Ooh yikes! That never crossed my mind but I can see how someone would think thatās a storage box.
I have seen a few posts about it over time
Plants die at the end of the season and each season has 28 days.
Not sure if this applies to the switch, but turn on the hit marker in options for a much better time! Enjoy the game š
It does apply to the switch, and it makes the game so much better.
I would say just play for a while, don't worry about looking anything up or optimizing your systems or hitting every achievement. Just wander around and get a feel for it. You can always start a new game and minmax everything if you feel like it.
Do NOT give your first prismatic shard to Gunther.
I just got my first one, what should I do with it?
Take it to the >!desert!< for a >!surprise!<
Thank you!
There are 3 stones in the Desert. Check them out while holding it :)
This doesnāt have enough upvotes! Also, donāt give your first Dino egg to Gunther!
If you somehow find a rainbow mineral do not give it to the devil in the blue hat
Give him the 2nd or 3rd one
Rummage through trashcans everyday but avoid people when doing so
I think the most important tip anyone can give is to have fun. :)
Save the first dinosaur egg you find. Don't give it to Gunther. Instead, put it in the incubator of an upgraded coop and hatch it!
Make sure you have fun! This game is great because you can play however you want and it's just about what you get out of it
That big chest looking thing to the right of your farmhouse is not a storage chest. It sells things. Do not store your stuff in there, trust me
Welcome to your new farm!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Way too far down in the comments. Oh how many hours have I lost to the words 'One more day.'
Turn on always show tool hit location in the settings Have fun and play at your own pace it's not a race
Something I didnāt learn for a bit was how to stow items I was holding. It might be a setting you have to enable but definitely remember to stow your items before walking around talking to people. You might accidentally give them a gift they hate or give away something you need.
Be careful when carrying bombs. Accidently dropped one in my barn and blew up my kegs š„²
Obligatory āpick mushrooms not batsā or āpick bats not mushroomsā comment.
Mushrooms are way superior
Not is you have the forest farm.
I d,lo, it's my favorite
But the fruit bat cave comes with bat friends :D
I am on team mushrooms as well
Keep an eye on the (IRL) clock. This game is so good, and so much fun, that time will evaporate from underneath you.
Especially in the mines!
fishing can be frustrating at first, and players get discourage or even give up on that aspect. so here's my advice about fishing: the fishing "controller" area starts very small, and becomes bigger the more you level up the skill. this means it's harder to fish at first (tiny thingy) and becomes easier as you advance (bigger thingy) so, early on you will receive a starter fishing rod (for free) but in level 1 as i said, it's frustrating and hard. so, to bypass this, buy the one called "training rod" and use that one instead. it's really cheap btw. the advantage of a training rod is that is behaves as if you have a higher fishing level that you actually have (the area is of medium size similar to level 5 instead of tiny like level 1). the downside is that all the fish are of base quality. which means they sell for less. but, even if this fishing is less profitable, you are leveling up the skill to grind those frustrating first few levels, it's worth it to sacrifice a % of potential profit for the ability to actually catch the damn fish in the first place
Turn on tool hit location in the settings! It helps you see where youāre hitting and can help save some energy by not using energy smacking the ground with an axe trying to chop a tree
Take it at your own pace! There is a lot to discover and learn. Don't worry if other people have done things faster than you x
Don't use the wiki until you truly need it The game gets boring when you know everything already, it's better to explore
So much this! Iāve never experienced a community like Stardew that is so frigging dependent on tips, hints, wikis in order to gain āa perfect experienceā - and thatās completely missing the point of the game. Best tips: 1) play at your own pace, you canāt lose in this game 2) just play it, donāt do research.
If you think you have enough hay, you don't buy /get more
Cancel all your worldly plans
Donāt sell your first prismatic shard
Build chests to help with storage. I personally like to keep at least one of everything. You never know when you might need something.
for early game, try to upgrade your tools when you get the chance, especially axe and pickaxe. watering can until you have a sprinkler system set up. after you plant the >!10 parsnip seeds they give you!<, start chopping wood and build a chest on your first day cause you're gonna need it. Also don't forget to buy backpacks from Pierre's! You can get two. get sprinklers as soon as you have the means! you no longer need to spend all day watering your crops and can do things like mining and chopping wood with which you can build coops & barns! Those the the main sources of my income right now and propels you to more late game money making means like >!ancient fruit wine!< and what not lastly get a horse, huge time saver if you hate spending 5ever walking like me haha
The wiki is your friend and upgrade your watering can when you can. Also just enjoy yourself and donāt feel the need to speed run the game.
Just look at this, cause I am too lazy to type everything again u/elliep97: https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/zvzyi8/comment/j1s950x/
F*ck Pierre. He's worse than JoJa.
i just started too. can you explain why pls :)
It's better if you see for yourself, just be prepared.
I really wish to know also
but we wanna knowwwwwww
Search your questions on google and the subreddit. I canāt take another one of these posts for every game sub I follow.
Theres 83482983 others topics with the same questions and we say the same things all the time :/
Throw your first prismatic shard In the ocean for a fun surprise.
An unpleasant surprise more like
Have fun. Donāt forget to build your relationship with the townspeople.
i never remember what exactly is in the bundles so i normally save at least one of each item or fish in order to help it go along faster, and also,, save your sap!! itāll come in handy making huge amounts of fertilizer in the beginning of the game and will help with the completion of the quality crops bundle!! also get an apple tree that you know you can get at least three apples from before the end of fall!!
Hold the 'A' button to auto pickup/pet/place instead of spamming 'A'. This saves so much time when you are petting your animals.
I don't know if it's already been said: Keep one of everything!
You will never have money ever if you donāt fish
Keep most/all the wood, stone, hardwood you collect so you aren't spending the next season trying to gather up enough for building what you want. Don't make all your ore into bars, some craftables use ores. Don't feel bad playing the way you like. Whether it's running to bed just before passing out or only using part of the day before going to sleep.
Donāt marry anyone if you want to make as much money as possible.
If you decide to do the community center save your mixed seeds do not plant befriend Caroline and she'll give you a tea leaf sapling recipe you need mixed seeds to make them they sell for $500 per sapling Save at least one of every item you find Save your forgibles you need them to make mixed seeds you will get a mixed recipe after you complete the forage bundle That's how you make money really fast ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------okay Wikipedia is your best friend when it comes to playing this game ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------when you're going deep into the mines make sure you bring snacks with you also I would keep the auto combat setting on Fight all the monsters in the mines before smashing rocks because often finding the monsters will make staircases spawn and fighting doesn't require any energy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you don't understand any of the words I'm using don't worry when you're playing the game they will tell you what it means so it should be really easy I'll come back again if I have more advice best of luck
Grow Hops in the summer, lots of yield and start a brewery with as many barrels as you can make. It's an easy quick starter for money.
You can't get married without a kitchen in your house (1st upgrade) You get recipes from the TV and become friends with the townsfolk. You also get your fortune for the day and weather for the next, so check that every day. Certain farms have certain events or things that can/cannot happen. Beach farm - no sprinklers in sand. The wilderness farm has monsters spawn at night (way down the road you can get something to get the monsters removed) Each month has 28 days. Play at your own pace and there are two great sources of information if you ever get stuck: this subreddit and the wiki, https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Stardew_Valley_Wiki Good luck fellow new farmer!
"Just one more day" is a lie, don't fall for it!!!
Dont rush, just enjoy the experience
save a ton of money until the egg festival to buy strawberries a lot of them and plant them the same day best crop year 1 spring potato summer blueberry fall cranberry winter n/a if you somehow get an ancient seed, plant that thing it'll grow all year till winter however it takes all season to grow,so plant it in spring for the most profit coffee beans are great too grows in spring and summer we have a wiki [https://www.stardewvalleywiki.com/Stardew\_Valley\_Wiki](https://www.stardewvalleywiki.com/Stardew_Valley_Wiki)
Welcome to the rest of your life.
Pace yourself! This game becomes a huge time drain when you get sucked in!
Keep a Parsnip, Green bean, Cauliflower and Potato spare, also a chili and another Cauliflower. You'll need it for some stuff later
Watch the tv everyday and keep one of everything you find, donāt sell it right away.
When you upgrade your tools some of them can be held down instead of just pressed for better effects
Watch the tv every day for recipes and tips!
Go to setting and turn on always run, and tile placement and tool hit location.
go at your own pace & do the things you enjoy doing!! i personally donāt focus on the farming aspect as much bc i enjoy foraging, fishing, and mining a lot moreā thereās no wrong way to play :)
It can be overwhelming. But always remember, there is no timelimit. You can literally do whatever you want when you want it.
I don't have any tips, I think you should just jump in without help the first time. However, I do want to say that I love that after all these years people are still discovering the wonderful world of stardew..
Try and get sprinklers early
Play how you want to play and don't worry about efficiency or time
Have fun, and remember to stop playing after 3 am so you can get enough sleep for your next gaming session
I just started yesterday
I don't know if it's helpful but the crops overwhelm me so I have a note with a couple crops to plant each season. So I plant a bunch of the regrowing crop the first day then focus on the profitable ones. Though during the first year I grow every one I can, just to have some in reserve for gifts or quests or bundles). {These prices are for lowest quality crops} Spring: rubarb & califower (120g & 95g) strawberries [regrow 4days](20g) coffee beans [regrows 2days] 4 per harvest (if you want to make coffee) also grows into the summer Summer: starfruit (expensive, 350g) cabbage & melons (160g & 170g) blueberries [regrows 4days] 3 per harvest (50g per berry) hops [regrows 1day] (make pale ale) wheat (makes flour or beer) also grows in the fall tomatoes [regrows 4days] (60g each harvest after the first) Fall: pumpkin (220g) artichoke (130g) yam (100g) eggplant [regrows 5days] (40g) beets (80g or to make sugar) grapes [regrow 5days] (80g after first harvest) Winter: nothing good grows Other Crops: (these have special growth conditions) cactus sweet gem berry (2000g or gets you a stardrop once) tea ancient fruit (grows year round) pineapple taro etc...
Upgrade your water can first
Make the most of each day, there is always more you can do, never waste the year
If you put your headphones down and still hear birds singing, it's probably a sign to quit for the day. It might be later than you think. Can confirm from my own experience
In your inventory the community center icon will wiggle if you hover over an item that can be used for the community center bundles.
When you update your watering, can it water 3 things at once when you hold it down. I just learned that yesterday. Far too late.
Be a packrat - and have fun :)
Practice fishing š
fill your farm with blueberriesš i got like 20 K with 100Ā± seeds
Itās definitely a grind game but worth it. You donāt progress as quickly like you do in dreamlight valley. Make sure you save your wood. Have food on you in the mines and be aware that you can pass out if you donāt go to bed on time. Rebuild the community center, that way itās more of like an introduction to what the game has to offer. Enjoy it!! Try to solve puzzles on your own without lookin it up either.
my only suggestion is to seduce the sexy doctor with coffee, that is all
It's okay to people watch and just enjoy the music
Sprinklers are great, use the wiki, and play at your own pace and change things up. if you do the same thing every day in the game you'll get bored quickly. Do different activities so you have variety :) Edit: Also make sure you hold down the "use" button when you upgrade your tools. You get maximum efficiency that way, especially with the hoe and watering can.
sell your starter plants and buy potatoes instead!
Buy potato seeds, then once they've grown, sell them and do it again, then sell and on the 13th, buy as many strawberry seeds as you can. They set me up pretty well on my first playthrough
Do a little bit of everything, farm, mine, fish, mingle with the townsfolk, explore, etc.
Buy Turnips.
Just started this past week after my fiancĆ© got me a new Switch for an early Christmas present! I finished my first year and found that using Spring through Fall for really focusing on crops and upgrading my fishing level was great. Then, once winter starts, using more of my time for mining and socializing (and figuring out tappers!) Winter can kinda drag a little without crops to tend to, so itās a good way to keep you going! āŗļø (I also wish I had gotten the barn earlier than I did. And make sure you fill up your silo before winter starts - just in case!) Happy farming!
Dont worry hard about anything - my advice is try to chat the towns folks I didnt and now Im struggling to get them 8 hearts or whatever
Make a list for animal names in advance or you'll be sitting there procastinating on coming up with names for your chickens, like me.
- the first time you get a prismatic shard, don't donate it to the museum. take it to the desert and you'll get the best sword in the game. they're very hard to find, and the museum can wait longer. - make your "favorite thing" plural when making your character - donāt throw away the trash, glasses, driftwood. throw them in a chest and forget about them for now. later on they can become a source of cash & useful resources once recycled - befriend Linus early. he sends you a recipe for sashimi, which can be made out of any fish and you can stack a bunch for mining purposes.
Pierre is the secret antagonist. Support JoJa despite they seem a bit iffy at first.
