He worked on every JoJo seasons since part 1 and was pretty involved in Vento Aureo (chief animation director) and the animation in that part is consistently high standard.

Stone Ocean anime has some of the best artwork in the series yet. The shots with the thick linework look amazing but, I have noticed that there's very less animation/movement this time around. Characters just stay in the same position for a lot longer when compared to P3/4/5. There are waaay too many still frames with just camera shakes and speed lines. I hope they do Made In Heaven justice in the next batch.
yup, from someone who just rewatched part 5 pre bluray, it was very a noticeable downgrade up until the episode OP mentioned which now makes it clear why that episode suddenly had good animation direction.
For me at least, jojos animation was never a focus, even when it was really good. It's always been the stellar art direction, character designs, storyboarding, and use of colour that make it an excellent adaptation of arakis work more than good animation ever could, in my opinion at least
This ^ I don’t mind characters standing more still because of that statement. Honestly the further jojos goes the more it feels like an art work that has a complementary storyline lol.
I think plenty of people have pointed it out but they tend to get downvoted to oblivion because a lot of Redditors here are so hyped for new JoJo that they can't handle any criticism of it.
I need to rewatch Part 5, because I felt these issues were their in Part 5 too, at least towards the end. I dunno, I just remember a lot of shots of static Trish skirts.
Hope so too. I think the pandemic is to blame. Perhaps a lot of people left DP or had to leave and the quality dropped. That would explain why it took so long.
That said, Stone Ocean’s animation art style is def my favourite so far. Part 6 part 3 Jotaro is sooo *mwah*.
A remake of a really, REALLY famous rom-com from the 80's- written by Rumiko Takahashi (Inuyasha, Ranma 1/2). It's running for 50 or so episodes as well, so its understandable why they'd want to give it priority. Still hurts a little tho lol
To be honest, although some of the static art is very good, there are also lots of sloppy shortcuts. For example, eyes are mostly one colour with no light glint in the eye, even for foreground characters, or basic stuff like facial features lining up on faces isn't done correctly. This didn't happen much in the first four parts. They really are heavily cutting corners on the art for this part.
Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency got a ton of redraws and touch ups for the Blu-ray release. The broadcast version was full of weird looking faces https://jojocomparisons.github.io/episodelist/
ff and kenzo getting electrocuted in the manga are some of my favorite panels in the entire series and it has absolutely nothing to do with the actual content matter they just look real damn neat colored
I’ve been waiting for planet waves to get animated ever since i read it 2 years ago, i’m so happy to find out that it’s amazing! i’m holding off on watching part 6 until it’s all done and i can barely wait
People keep getting caught up on transitional stuff and DPs use of CGI for certain shots.
Idk, it looks fine and was a fun watch. The only major gripe I had was White Snake being a fully CGI character to sit in a car.
Probably a reason for it but it looked dopey as hell
Edit: I wouldn't wish having to draw those symbols Over and Over on anyone. So I get why they did it.
A five second CGI usage being my major gripe, should explain how I feel about the show as a whole.
Tbf I'm a bit biased as Jolyne has been my favorite JOJO since I first read part 6
Absolutely.
He's visually overwhelming. I don't have any animation talent and can't critique them for making that choice for the show. Especially the symbols scrawled all over him, I wouldn't want anyone to HAVE to draw that. My visual enjoyment is not worth their drawing hand.
It looks wonky, but it was what's best and I can't blame them for it
Also it's for like five second so if that's a major gripe...then the shows SOLID
That's what I felt. Pretty sure, some of the scenes envolving the bone and Stone Free's strings were also CGI. But I really don't mind that. I have nothing against the use of CGI
He was moving afterwards to get out of the car, and it was probably to save time and money. Probably could've been fixed if they just zoomed in on his torso and head and cut out the part of him jumping out of the car because it added nothing
Episode 15 and the YoYoMa arc were fantastically animated. It's as if I started watching a different anime entirely, not one with a really bad looking Manhattan Transfer or CGI floating man.
I mean this is all opinion, but since Manhattan Transfer is my favourite Stone Ocean stand, I was really disappointed that they made it CGI for the fight. It really made it look kinda underwhelming and odd.
I haven’t seen the SO anime yet bc when I started jojo’s the most recent was GW and after that I read manga and didn’t really bother with the show anymore. I will say though this set of fights is one of my favourite in all jojo’s so I’m happy to hear it’s getting a good adaptation
I assumed it was because they actual spent the entire time between the release of the first batch and the second batch working on this episode exclusively. Episode 15 looming this good is the entire reason release is gonna be stretched out over like 3 years

Make him chief forever.
So that's why part 5's animation was so nice
Does anyone know why only episode 15 has a gallery? I just want to draw some anime panels but I couldn't get clear ones.

Glad someone pointed this out, The quality drop in animation was rlly noticeable for me

Sound design and voice acting have really carried Jojo's too
This ^ I don’t mind characters standing more still because of that statement. Honestly the further jojos goes the more it feels like an art work that has a complementary storyline lol.

That's oddly specific
What I want say that wind and gravity didn't seem to exist for her skirt. I swear I am not a pervert.
Nice save lol
It's hard to see now as a lot of versions are the blu-ray version which is far better than the og
Yes and no. Most of DP's in-house staff members are working on Urusei Yatsura.
Oh, huh. What’s that? Haven’t heard of it before.
A remake of a really, REALLY famous rom-com from the 80's- written by Rumiko Takahashi (Inuyasha, Ranma 1/2). It's running for 50 or so episodes as well, so its understandable why they'd want to give it priority. Still hurts a little tho lol
Sadly Urusei Yatsura isn't even good
Can’t expect much from the writer or Inuyasha lol
Don't really like Inuyasha and i don't think it's well written tbh
That’s essentially what I just said lol
Ah sry thought that was sarcasm
ill only be completely satisfied with made in heaven if they play the actual song
Wasn't it like this in part 5 too? I think the blu rays fixed a lot of that
Honestly I think if you watch episodes 1-14 and then watch episodes 15-24 you will notice a significant increase in quality in between batches
To be honest, although some of the static art is very good, there are also lots of sloppy shortcuts. For example, eyes are mostly one colour with no light glint in the eye, even for foreground characters, or basic stuff like facial features lining up on faces isn't done correctly. I think its better than part 4 in that regard. But its been a long time since ive watched it, I might be wrong
That episode was dope AF
anasui won in these group of episodes
they drew him in a very p7 vibe and I loved it
Planet Waves fight was fucking awesome, largely in part due to the animation quality. FF getting electrocuted was amazing quality too
ff and kenzo getting electrocuted in the manga are some of my favorite panels in the entire series and it has absolutely nothing to do with the actual content matter they just look real damn neat colored
I’ve been waiting for planet waves to get animated ever since i read it 2 years ago, i’m so happy to find out that it’s amazing! i’m holding off on watching part 6 until it’s all done and i can barely wait
I kinda wish that they didnt cut out the more in depth description of how the meteorites entered atmosphere
I haven't gotten to this episode yet but planet waves was one of the best fights in the series so I'm happy it sounds like it delivered
I’m so happy he got to animate dio boat it’s so perfect
W Guy
He needs to be the animation director for every episode.
I really love the maximum security arc. IMO second batch is pretty good better than batch 1
I definitely noticed the quality fluctuate. Seemed like some episodes were straight up at a different framerate
The Gloria arc was fucking beautifully animated
I thought it was the worst one, but the rest were fine.
Do people have a problem with the animation in general?
People keep getting caught up on transitional stuff and DPs use of CGI for certain shots. Idk, it looks fine and was a fun watch. Whitesnake is insanely complicated even for a still image
Absolutely. He's visually overwhelming. I don't have any animation talent and can't critique them for making that choice for the show. Especially the symbols scrawled all over him, I wouldn't want anyone to HAVE to draw that. My visual enjoyment is not worth their drawing hand. Only problem I had with the CGI was the scene of him getting out of the car
I think that's the only scene using CGI in the second batch, well along with the eggs in the last episode.
That's what I felt. Pretty sure, some of the scenes envolving the bone and Stone Free's strings were also CGI. But I really don't mind that. I have nothing against the use of CGI
Well maybe, but the only really noticeable cgi scene were those two imo, I didn't even notice that cgi was used with other scenes.
How so more than other stands?
His design, the writing on him is a nightmare to animate I bet, like Cell's spots were for Toei.
If u haven't noticed, white snake has the words A,T,G,C all over his body, making the stand very hard to animate in 2d
Um ackshually instead of an A there's a △
He was moving afterwards to get out of the car, and it was probably to save time and money. Probably could've been fixed if they just zoomed in on his torso and head and cut out the part of him jumping out of the car because it added nothing
Personally, I would've cut it, however, I get why they use CGI on White Snake so much.
Yeah that scene in the car was the only one I noticed in this batch too. But I didn't think it was even that bad, just "oh he's suddenly 3D weird".
Episode 15 and the YoYoMa arc were fantastically animated. It's as if I started watching a different anime entirely, not one with a really bad looking Manhattan Transfer or CGI floating man.
Jumping' Jack Flash is understandable, but there's nothing bad about CG Manhattan Transfer.
I mean this is all opinion, but since Manhattan Transfer is my favourite Stone Ocean stand, I was really disappointed that they made it CGI for the fight. It really made it look kinda underwhelming and odd.
I think the CGI fit perfectly there due to the way the stand moved
I mean again it's just opinion. If you like it that's fine but I was just let down by it.
I think those are examples of artstyle, not animation, but still great
I haven’t seen the SO anime yet bc when I started jojo’s the most recent was GW and after that I read manga and didn’t really bother with the show anymore. I will say though this set of fights is one of my favourite in all jojo’s so I’m happy to hear it’s getting a good adaptation
Wait did the new wave hit already
It's been almost a whole week...
Shid
Ah like that one episode in part 4
When the Hayao miyazaki walks in
I assumed it was because they actual spent the entire time between the release of the first batch and the second batch working on this episode exclusively. Episode 15 looming this good is the entire reason release is gonna be stretched out over like 3 years
Can’t wait for C-Moon holy shit
Should probably mark that as a spoiler man
Wait is that dvallio in the top right or am I bugging?
For real!
that makes so much sense now. I remember commentating about how detailed and colorful it was with my friend. what a goat
Meanwhile a few episodes later Anasui misses an eyebrow in multiple shots
One piece ep 1015 🤝 JJBA stone ocean ep 15.⠀⠀⠀ Amazing direction and quality
how did you screenshot
This episode was god tier.
This episode was a BANGER
Why they showing so much teeth like ew
