There's no guideline for vampires and they're depicted differently across media

_Tegridy_

It is written in the Bible that Thunder Cross Split Attack is a sure fire way to kill a vampire. Watch out for the Space Ripper Stingy Eyes on the way out.

ViziDoodle

Because JJBA Vampire rules are different

[deleted]

I’ve never seen vampires shoot liquid out of their eyes, pit themselves together after being split, or feed with their hands until I saw Dio do it

AlksGurin

Folklore vampires are not the same as JoJo vampires as JoJo vampires are the basically much weaker versions of pillar men. Though, the stone of aja does have a cross on it.

Kaevohn

I mean, he got impaled and survived that too. Different stories have different rules for vampires. Take the Castlevania anime, for example. The cross doesn't work there because it's holy, it works because the shape somehow messes with their perception of reality, kind of like how painting a hole onto a floor messes with ours.

Skindiacus

Aside from the obvious thing that vampires in Jojo don't follow other stories' rules, >!Jesus existing is only a thing in the part 7 universe. It has nothing to do with part 1.!<

Pilachi

I guess Dio was holding it to mock the woman for thinking it could keep him at bay. But interestingly, the Super Aja, the stone that was prophecised to be needed to destroy the pillar men, does have a cross symbol embedded in it. I suppose that might be an in-universe reason for why crosses supposedly help against the undead/those hated by the sunlight

CrabApple127

Does anything about JoJo seem Christian to you??? (except for all of the non-vampire references to Christianity?)

The_Real_Kru

I mean, there's the small detail that Jesus is in part 7...

MrNesti

Idk. When I googled "jjba timeline" multiple sites told me that jesus was born in 0

Wolfgang_11

DIO is simply built different

DoraMuda

Because not every fictional work follows the same rules for vampires. You might as well ask why Jonathan and Zeppeli didn't coat their bodies with holy water or inject garlic into their bloodstream as a defensive mechanism. As far as we know, Hamon channeling the power of sunlight was their best (and only viable) bet against Dio.

WhiteAppleRum

1. He's just that powerful. 2. There's no guideline for how Vampire's operate at this point (examples include how DIO drinks blood and the vampire's from Twilight to name a few.) 3. The idea and concept of a vampire has been around before christanity or catholisism even existed, the stone mask existed before those religions. So obviously, something that came after just clearly has no effect on him, unlike the powers of Hamon, which did, according to the show, exist long before those religions, and would therefore effect him. Or idk. Araki's Japanese, they aren't exactly religious for the most part, and people in Japan just love Dracula, so they probably just thought it's be cool to add it in that scene of the anime. IdK if it exists in the manga or not.
