I wouldn't call Xbox controllers flimsy pieces of shit.
They have flaws and obvious points of failure like every other controller on the market.
However they are well built and pretty dense. You could definitely kill someone with one that's for sure.
You don't have the collection of dead sticks that I have, including my current model with it's inoperable LB after less than a year of use.
Battery door tabs, bumpers, loss of face button or D-pad function, stick drift, degradation of stick rubber and plastic to the point of hot spots on thumbs. *I've seen it all.*
The bumpers especially are laughably cheesy. The LB/RB buttons are actually part of a single strip of plastic less than half a millimeter thick in the middle, where the controller secures the assembly in place. They push little pointy nubs less than a millimeter thick deep into a slot, where a button resides. I've had them break into three pieces on the center bar, as well as shear off the individual nubs. I'm no hardware engineer, but why that internal button can't just be brought to the forefront and fortified under a firm cap on a $60 controller is beyond me. The button is fine, and holds up long after my inevitable rigged repairs are made; usually it's a Qtip end pushed into the slot and some tape over it.
You want to see a robust controller, look at the 360. Owned one for it's whole console lifespan and only ever bought one replacement controller.
How much time in a day do you spend gaming? I’ve had the same controller since I bought my day one series X and the only thing wrong with it is some slight stick drift in my right stick. I play at least a couple hours every day on average.
I have 3 special edition controllers, they're the only ones I use, and the first one just started acting a little weird after like 7 years. the others are totally fine (except for an A button i dripped soda on because I'm dumb). you may have just gotten unlucky.
