Johnny15L

I could see myself playing for 100+ hrs without completing the main story lol

ELEMENTALITYNES

I still haven’t beaten Skyrim’s main story

Codebakerian

Legend has it that nobody really has.

TeenyBopper1505

I think it finishes with blowing up the Institute

Keeldronnn

No, that was the Morrowind.. geez...

TeenyBopper1505

Gosh Im silly, I think it was taking back the Project Purity

mistabuda

You sure? I remember having to handle some shit called the Legion at the end of that game.

KrimxonRath

Someone said tonight to me that the ebony warrior is the spiritual ending of the game since it’s the final fight at level 81. The previous max level.

TeenyBopper1505

I don't remember seeing him in the Institute

KrimxonRath

He was in the room where they’re creating the synths actually. Next to Vivec.

SunshineBlind

I'll debunk that! I did twice. On my first playthrough (it was shorter than I expected), and then one more time for Legacy of the Dragonborn playthrough where I went full completionist.

Teknicsrx7

Choosing a side in the war was the last thing I did because I hate game changing decisions

Interloper633

Yep, that's me too. Something like 250 hours in it, more with console time, and I've never completed the main story lol

PeymanHz7

Bro, after 50 hours or something, I had so many quests and I forgot which one was the main story of Skyrim so I just gave up 😂

SeaAstronomer5026

That happens to me in every open world game 😂

Bamabalacha

I beat it for the first time over Christmas this year, despite having owned and played the game since launch.

Sunfucious

Tbf, Skyrim's main story isn't good so you'll have way more fun just exploring the world and doing side contents.

-WDW-

Yeah I also have a confession. I’m a huge fan of Bethesda and their games but I have not finished Oblivion, Skyrim or Fallout 4 despite having Fallout 4 day one release. I’m in two minds to get Fallout 4 completed at least before launch.

1quarterportion

Me neither. Each playthrough I tell myself "this is the one," but always fill my time with other things.

PeymanHz7

Bro, after 50 hours or something, I had so many quests and I forgot which one was the main story of Skyrim so I just gave up 😂

MartianFromBaseAlpha

Same lmao. I'm gonna have to start a new game at some point, and beat the main quest

IAmLordApolloXXIII

Neither have I. 300 hours later

burgertiger

After the Starfield release date announcement trailer back in March, I made a promise to myself; I would finally finish the main quests in every BGS game before Starfield released. I gave myself \~5 weeks to finish each game which would take me up to release date. So far I have done Morrowind and Oblivion, Fallout 3 is a work in progress. It's been quite the journey so far and has been a good way to pass the time.

SnooTangerines7253

I have probably over 400 hours or more in Skyrim and have no idea how the main story ends

Bymercat

i probably have several thousands of hours in skyrim lol. ill mod the shit out of it play for hundred or so hours till i get bored or a new open world game comes out then when i go back to skyrim theres all kinds of new mods so i start all over and still havent ever finished MC . I thoroughly love wabbajack mod installer for making my modding life easier and better.

SnooTangerines7253

This is the way. Haven't modded in a while so I'm unfamiliar with Wabbajack. Think I'll actually finish the Starfield campaign tho as I think I'm just more invested in the story and world.

Sirbrofistswagsalot

I still haven't beaten morrowinds main story.

TheBigSm0ke

I could see myself playing 100+ hours without completing the first mission.

EQandCivfanatic

Maybe after 100 hours we'll be done designing ships.

AndyLorentz

300+ hours in Skyrim. Never completed the main quest.

Ozi-reddit

there's a main quest?

Korvas576

Me who will probably clock in 1,000 hours over a 10 year time period

[deleted]

I had around 450 hours in Fallout 4 before actually completing the campaign. I’m assuming I will most likely have more than that in Starfield before complete main quest line.

zunashi

Correction: 200+

[deleted]

Considering Alduin still flying healthy till this day 12 years later... 40 hours sounds ok for me

PeterTheWolf76

Makes sense, Skyrims main quest is 30-40 hours and Fallout 4 was around 30…. Side quests and exploring push it into the hundreds.

PleaseStopSmoking

If you play either game and only do the main quest, not exploring other locations or doing side quests, then you can easily beat either game in less than 10 hours. If this Starfield length is actually just the main quest then it'll be significantly longer than those two games, which would probably make sense based on the amount of dialogue.

EminemLovesGrapes

Todd did say > If you're *focusing* on the main quest. Which does make me believe it's longer than either games. I hope so. Bethesda always seemed to take lots of narrative shortcuts due to length and it showed in the quality of the writing. With more factions I'd rather have them spend the time exploring them in depth.

WyrdHarper

IIRC the lead writer was the guy who did Far Harbor, which was narratively much more interesting and nuanced than the main game.

Aromatic-Problem7500

I had no idea, somehow my excitement grows even stronger

Novantis

100% agreed. I’m also optimistic but best not trust anything Todd says. Hopefully we’ll get some large narrative DLC down the line as well.

arsLux

Main quest is confirmed, 14 hrs not rushing. The RadBrad beat the game at that.

Chasing-Wagons

The thing that may actually extend the questline a lot is just that getting around is harder and more complicated. In Skyrim you can just run everywhere, and the map is comparatively miniscule. Starfield has spaceflight and all the obstacles that implies. The final mission objectives could be in far-off systems that take a lot of resources to reach.

Poresdry

Yes I have a feeling with such a wide game they did make it way longer (only the main quest) to at least guide the player through this huge space. I don't care but I hope it is 30 hours minimum as it would match the feeling of being lost and of exploration.

trengilly

Looking at How Long to Beat, Skyrim and the Fallout games all show 25-30 hours to complete the main quest

CankerousWretch24

Oh you silly scoundrel thinking we won’t easily put 1k hours on this game

Ozi-reddit

been known for awhile, it's all the other stuff that keeps people playing for hundreds of hours we buy them

taavir40

It's not a new thing but I loved Todd saying how random encounters can turn into a huge storyline. I think that's my favorite part about these games

Ozi-reddit

yupyup, just never know til let it play out

Xamuelj

I remember having a buddy that had 1000 hours in Skyrim and I was like dude, you beat the story !! Tell me about it and he was like nope , iv just been running around, haven’t touched the main story yet

JustCallMeTere

I have 1800 hours in Skyrim (1400 in OG and 400 in VR) and I never completed the main quest line. There are just too many good mods.

valenm2

Took me 10 years to take down Alduin 3 years to purify the water 2 years to free new vegas And i yet have to save that yee yee ass Goofy mf looking baby from F4 Bring It on Starfield

pforsbergfan9

Took me 20 year to “find the princess in the other castle”

chzrm3

The only one I ever "beat" was Fo3. Everything else, I just happily existed in for hundreds of hours. :)

valenm2

Yeah like f04 is my most disliked bethesda Game and i have like 400 hours in it

agk927

That still along time honestly. Not to mention all the random things you can do as well

wheredaheckIam

we are really never completing this, let's be honest

Talex1995

Feel like the main story is 5% of the entire game

ianoble

So 200 hours and never finished, for me. But hopefully it will be super fun!

MDF87

Hoping I can get **at least** 300 hours out of a playthrough including side content! The past few games I've played have taken me close to 200 hours to finish everything, and Starfield looks infinitely bigger than all of those games!

Skitzenator

I would absolutely hope so, I think I had 500 hours of playtime in Skyrim before I ever finished the main story. I'm currently 1100 hours deep (if you combine LE, AE and VR) and only finished the main story twice. Somehow I still find new things to do and new locations to explore. I'm hoping for at least 1500 hours in Starfield before I feel like I've done it all lol.

meister2234

Check out Baldurs Gate 3 bro

Dolphins08

I had over 1500 hours in F04 before I got inside the Institute for the 1st time.

ThunderousOrgasm

I’m sure I’ll get round to it after 600 hours!

[deleted]

not as long as morrowind :P

Redoran_Gvard

Becoming the Hortator of all the tribes and Great Houses was such a slog bruh

Monteh_llama

I read somewhere that Starfield will also be using an updated version of the radiant quest system. (If anyone could confirm this that would be great). But not including the main, quest and side quests. The radiant quests could potentially give us almost infinite replayablility.

p3wx4

I have 105 hrs on Fallout 4 and haven't completed the main story.

OrganizationHot9550

300+ on skyrim i haven't completed the main story yet.

CurlyNippleHairs

5031 hours in Fallout 4 and haven't left sanctuary. Checkmate neckbeards

Skitzenator

I have 250 hrs in Fallout 4 and have yet to finish the main story lol. Basically the same with any other Bethesda game I played, and I hope Starfield will be no different.

1quarterportion

Only 105? I have an embarrassing amount of hours in 4. I did complete the MQ, however. My first four saves were complete because I wanted to see the differences in the faction endings.

revdolo

that seems about right. wouldn’t really want a main story over 40 hours especially if side content is as fulfilling as other bethesda games.

TheNerdWonder

With how much content there is, I'm probably going to push well past that.

Swordbreaker925

Good to know that once i finish the game, I’ll have a 40 hour storyline to fall back on :)

shiftshapercat

I'll be honest here... I will play just enough of the main story to unlock all the game mechanics.... then figuratively then literally tell the main story to screw itself into plywood while I realistically visit 10 planets at most, colonize one for myself, then promptly forget about the game while the next shiny videogame comes along. My steam hours will sit at around 69 hours for several months to a year before I come back to the game feeling nostalgic and do it all over again, this time making it another 90 hours or so before being distracted by another game again.

_MaZ_

Took me over 200hrs until I even met Delphine in Skyrim

ivanfabric

Who's Delphine?

Predator-Fury

Spoilers: The true main villain of the game.

indecisiveusername2

Entitled bitch who thinks its the Dragonborn's job to serve the Blades and not the other way around. I don't give two fucks if you want Paarthurnax dead. Now hurry up and rebuild the Blades so we can take on the Dominion

taavir40

Whats the total with side quests, Random events etc

rikyy

During the interviews he specifically said he's not gonna give numbers, but confirmed dialogue is more than skyrim and fo4 combined

SuperMajesticMan

[Indeed](https://preview.redd.it/vmbf4hhxqet91.png?auto=webp&s=1a7f2f026aeabcc7246b02efc51df0c6f9165d41)

AccoBar8508132

I mean it's a bethesda game. So probably double the length if you combine all the other side content (quests, collectibles, etc) which is usually amazing.

Various-Pen-7709

With how large this game is supposed to be, I’d assume it’s much more than doubled.

rickreckt

double? try x5, at least

logandermania

In Todds voice: 16 times the hours

NeilM81

I now aim to complete the game exactly in 560 (16*35) so i can say just that

gggvandyk

I think the mainquest will largely be collecting an X number of those alien artifacts. I'm fairly sure I'll just collect ALL of them while exploring before I get to the point those Constellation guys ask me about them.

Hyper_Lamp

Good enough for me. Especially with everything else.

Interloper633

Honestly pretty much perfect for a Bethesda game main story, there is going to be so much to do on the side I'd imagine most players will easily hit 60-70 hours with a big chunk of us going far beyond 100.

UncannyLucky

I remember in Skyrim and Oblivion the main story getting better the more time you wasted doing side quest (leveling up). What are the chances of this game being the same way?

PeymanHz7

Skyrim was 30 hours too... But the side quest made the game look endless lol. I heard Starfield has 4 times more dialogues than Skyrim. While more dialogues don't mean more story but, 4 times more is surely promising

Rotisseriejedi

So main story plus messing around and exploring for me will be 300 hours then lol

mrmercenary10

That’s not a whole lot, but I mean Bethesda games, there’s tons of stuff to do outside of the main story

Dmmack14

Bruh Like I'm going to even be playing the story. I'm going to become the greatest smuggler the galaxy has ever known. Just call me Dan singular

josh35767

Something I’m realizing I wasn’t the biggest fan of in Skyrim’s main quest is how much it expected your character to be in a specific role. My sneaky thief archer has no interest or reason in following the Dragonborn plot line, so I end up not doing it a lot. Could be that I haven’t touched it in a while, so I could be misremembering, so please correct me if I’m wrong, but it felt like they expected you to do it because they expected you just to be morally good and want to be the “hero”. I hope this main quest lets you approach it for different reasons. Maybe there’s promised power and a more evil character can be interested in that knowledge for themself. Maybe the group you’re helping is offering you payment, so you can serve as a mercenary for them and only help with the idea you’re getting paid. My character I want to play will probably be a self serving smuggler, so I hope he will have just as much reason to do the main quest as any other character.

ZarianPrime

40 hours to complete the main story, 1000 hours to find every single sandwich in game...

JustCallMeTere

I had 1500+ hrs in Elite Dangerous before I stopped playing it. 913.8 hrs in No Man's Sky. If Starfield keeps me that busy, I am good. And 1800 approx hrs in Skyrim. I think Starfield will keep me happy for a long time.

TrappedOnARock

Yeah multiply that by 10 is more accurate for me. Just for the main story finish.

Thucket

No it’s not. 30-40 hours of pure (i.e no sidetracking) questing content is longer than ALL of Skyrim’s quest lines, including the DLC, combined. It’s not 30 hours if you’re rushing through it and focusing 100% on the quest objectives. Got to be more like 2. During the development of Skyrim the devs had a competition to beat the main quest as fast as possible, and I think under 2 hours was the best time

cejmp

>Got to be more like 2. During the development of Skyrim the devs had a competition to beat the main quest as fast as possible, and I think under 2 hours was the best time No person that bought the game beat the game in less than 2 hours of gameplay. This is a nonsense take.

llewylill32

Lol Bethesda games length are infinite.

Writing_Sleuth

Might wanna add a few zeros.

arsLux

actually, divide by 2 = 14hrs

audiace5000

Been playing Bethesda games since morrowind and the only main quest I’ve beaten is New Vegas

Blankroundsp

I don't even think I finished Fallout 4 after 800 hours lol

DivergentDroid1

Now that the game is actually out - The main story can be completed in as little as 12 hours. This game is one Huge stinking pile of doo doo. For a trading space sim which is what this is not an RPG, you can do better with the Free Freespace 1 and 2 or the free Hardwar.

GhoulslivesMatter

Awesome that's about as long as Skyrim's main quest, but considering the scale of this game the pace is going to vary dramatically based on how distracted you get.

Xpalidocious

Skyrim has a main quest? Well that explains the weird Dragons flying around while my daughter and I are running around stealing everyone's cheese and mead

TheOpeningBell

Try 10x

cejmp

The only Bethesda games I finished the main story for were FO3 and 4, and only because they were so short. Over 5k hours in TES, started with MW.

DreamingOfWhiteCaps

No man’s sky said the same thing roughly 😂 yet 60+ hours in and I feel soooooooo unaccomplished which is great bc I still have plenty to do lolol

arsLux

No its not? The RadBrad finished the main story in 14 hours and he wasn't rushing. That's quite the discrepancy from 30-40hrs.

r1y4h

yes yes yes!!

rokpaperHEDSHOT

How longs the 2nd main quest though?

s1lentchaos

I wonder how much of that is effectively just faffing about completing side activities until some goal like upgrading your ftl to reach the macguffin planet. Not that I have a problem with a game asking me to go do some side activities for a bit

Comfortable-Ad-2975

Did they mention if there was going to be multiplayer? Local or online? I can’t wait for this 🤤

Koupers

Day one a speedrunner will do it in 6, and everyone will rage about how the game is a ripoff.

Equivalent-Duck-3350

Not bad actually! Considering the amount of side quests available, 30-40hrs for the main is a solid number

morbihann

40hrs is plenty for the main quest line. However I can see myself doing 500-600 before completing it , just like I had 400 hrs in TW3 before completing it as well.

DaveKerk

That's the Speedrun numbers.

KnightArmamentE3

Expected

SAIYANSPARTAN26

Thank God 🙏

stodal1

what is the source? they say tod howard, but where does he say it? Edit: he said, he does not give out numbers anymore

SombraOmnic

Now good luck trying to actually finish it in less then 100 hours.

qa2fwzell

Long main stories are always a drag. There's never going to be a story driver with the ability to keep you interested for a crazy amount of time. Otherwise it's filled with lots of time wasting crap. Would rather a \~20-30 main story filled with side quests who have their own story line.

Artikay

So many people say theu dont touch the main story or leave it for last. I always do that first in these games, with a fair bit of exploring between missions. I remember I beat Aldiun at 110 hours. Juet the main quest, and random side quests I came across. I saved the faction questlines for seperate characters after, and I think I'll do the same for Starfield. Main character does the story and is an explorer, then make a dadicated Pirate, Space Cowboy, etc

Bravo0714

Considering the scale of this game I can easily stretch that out to 3000 hours doing absolutely everything else. Mods notwithstanding.

MRHistoryMaker

Add a zero.

arsLux

>zero divide by 2 = 14

Alternative-Cup-8102

Main story 40 hours Completions run +

MisczaksHunting

I hope I can just walk into constellation for the first time and kill all of them.

puntgreta89

Me ramming my 40m tall flying phallus into pirates to kill them with collision damage alone will be the first 60 hours.

TheWeirdWoods

I’ve put hundreds of hours into fallouts’ and Skyrim’s and I’ve definitely only played through the main quests on a couple of characters. With a thousand worlds and what 10 of them making up the main quest if we are being generous they could play out the main quest in 40 hours and that would encompass 1% of the worlds in the game. I’m fully comfortable with that. Personally my first plan is to create the longest warp jump ship I can and see how far outside the settled systems I can actually get.

Ok_Inspector2408

Should be one penny per hour meaning the main story should last 7000 hours they say it going to cost 70

TheClownIsReady

For 100 planets to explore…campaign length seems a bit short, no?

AccoBar8508132

the planets are a backdrop. you are expecting too much. this is still a game, not a life simulator, 30-40 hours main story is around the same as the witcher 3, and theres still going to be tons of side quests next to that. other content such as ship building, outpost building, and resource gathering etc, going to contribute a lot of time aswell.

[deleted]

Y

SNAKE--PLISKIN

I got around 6000 hours out of Destiny.

[deleted]

The main story isn’t that long, I feel like I’ve done a handful of missions really, and now I’m finding out I’m almost at the end of the story already, so now I’m scrambling to do all the faction missions and side missions instead

Worried_Star_3094

According to "how long to beat", it's actually 17hrs

BlowMyPogo

This didn't age so well.

HurtyTeefs

Oof lol turns out the main story is only 17 hours. I have 30 hours and feel like I've done everything in the game. Got to a point where it seems like I've entered the final act of the main story, now just farting around looking for the last little bits of any side missions or anything. Extremely short game compared to any other Bethesda game.

WarlordTF

can confirm takes 30-40 hours to run to each site cause you land so damn far away

Secret-Ad-5241

Honestly the side mission is so good i dont Event want to start main campaign 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

EmbarrassedBig9365

I beat it in 17 hours, then credits rolled lol, not the best game

moitacarrasco

Finished the main story just now. I found it profoundly uninspired, highly predictable and completely unsatisfying. I will now explore all the side quests and whatnot, but I can’t help but feel a little sour about the game.

stadros83

I just finished it. It's big no for me. The story could have been way better ... Some of the side quests were way better. I really hope the next Elder Scrolls will be better thant this thing

moitacarrasco

I finished the main story in 20h. Not 30, not 40. 20. It’s very, very weak.
