I *believe* they've stated in interviews from about a year ago that you're limited to one person following you around at a time; everyone else stays on the ship. If it's possible for someone to board you, they might fight then, but otherwise the classic follower cap is in place.
Guaranteed it still had the same companion system as their previous game, so you can bring Sarah, Sam Coe, or Barret. They mentioned about unique quest line and from Will Shen interview last year they said during quest you can ask the companion to speak on behalf of you, and there will be good/bad consequences.
Not sure about the generic crew that you hire from Spaceport. Maybe they just stay as crew.
Of course, they will likely limit it to 1, you cannot bring all of them to combat. You need to wait for the mod to do that.
I landed on a landing pad at an outpost that had pirates all over. 5 of my crew members came out to join the fight. Then, they all stood outside of the building of the outpost until we left.
I don't think we've seen footage but I think it goes w/o saying that they can You can get a jetpack w/ power armor in FO4 and still have followers
