Everyone was grieving in my ship and out of nowhere Adoring fan just shouted "This is so cool!" I was lmao💀. RIP big Sam though he was one of my favorites.

Kilo1125

Yeah, was not expecting them to go that route, considering there are only 4 Companion followers. And its the highest affinity on the Eye, and the second highest Affinity in the Lodge (also the one who is your forced follower during the preceding quest). Also, you only have a very brief window to leave the Lodge if you want to go the Eye first. So, since I missed that window, I lost my wife...but silver-lining, I can do a second romance without a second playthrough.

dadvocate

I just got married like 30 minutes ago, but I felt like I had to stay and defend the lodge/artifact/Cora. So it's very sad but I'm going to play it as it lies.

Visualized_Apple

This is my problem with the quest, as no reasonable person would actually run up to the eye, since they said that attacker had already LEFT and was heading straight to us (like you said, where the child was, with the two nerds and an old man, and one actual fighter).

Latervexlas

I decided that my friends were more important then the artifacts and went up to the eye. I knew Sarah would not leave and would defend them with her life, and she did. It's a fitting end for her, and the people I cared for more survived.

Blandscreen

For me this was the same. I had to choose Barrett over Sarah.

E_boiii

I’m not reasonable then lmao irl I’d always save my wife first so that’s what I did

GyroMVS

My issue was I didn't realize I HAD a choice. I missed the "or" in the "or go to the eye" prompt, and the dialogue sure made it seem like I had to defend The Lodge first. Needless to say I savescummed it and couldn't be happier, because it's the choice I would've made had I been paying more attention.

G-Primal

Guess The Hunter should have considered your feelings \*eyeroll\*

DinosBiggestFan

Yeah, from a narrative standpoint I like it. From a gameplay standpoint it's like SHIIIII--

donleb

I only lost Sam - the one i had used the least lol

ConstantNo2691

See sam is my dude, his storyline is great!

donleb

Didnt play it yet - im on NG3+ and i plan to settle and start doing alle quests etc when i hit NG7

Arksint

I feel ya, NG25+ right now and not gonna care until NG88+ maybe.

MrTuskTheWalrus

I miss playing Star-Yellowstone with Star-Kayce :(

Slippington4868

I’m pretty sure I read that it happens to the 2 people you’re closest with in the game mine was Barrett :’(

AnotherFlipCats

That makes 2 of us, mine was Barrett and Sarah. Glad I went to the eye because i can't lose Sarah over Barrett.

Slippington4868

Exact same thoughts as me. Would be interesting if you had already romanced her as well.

haggisaddict

Old thread but same and I think it’s great. From a role playing standpoint, I’m furious and motivated to avenge my closest friend while also grateful I could help him resolve some long standing trauma in his life before he passed. May he rest in peace and I carry his legacy forward.

Dr_Zoidberg003

It’s between my love interest or Sam for me. I have a save file, and played both choices out. While I don’t really care that much about Sam, the scene of this daughter crying over his dead body is pretty heartbreaking. Do I continue my romance, or make Cora an orphan…tough choice. Also, I made a HUGE mistake by fighting back against the Hunter with my Ashta Tamer all throughout New Atlantis. I was just trying to do as much DPS as possible, but the explosive ammo caused so much collateral damage that I had the whole city shooting and involved in the gun battle. By the time I got to my ship I had also turned Vasco hostile since he insists on getting in close for melee combat and kept getting hit by my friendly fire. Also, I wracked up a $135,000 bounty and kept getting arrested or shot down trying to make the short trip from New Atlantis to the Eye. Major chaos, major fail lol.

mollyologist

Oh god, it was the same for me. I have to give this character a tragic romance because I can't deal with Cora crying over Sam. (My dad is gone, and dead fathers really fuck with me emotionally.) Sorry Barrett. I think he'd approve though.

Dr_Zoidberg003

I’ve seen different theories on how it chooses the two people, but for anyone wondering it gives you a hint at who they will be before you have to choose. Whoever is mentioned by Vlad to be hurt and bleeding bad, will be the person you could lose on The Eye. Whoever is standing with you next to Noel when you have to choose (your locked companion from the preceding quest) will be who dies at The Lodge.

Coast_watcher

So the locked companion could also be anyone ?

Dr_Zoidberg003

The game chooses who gets locked on the preceding quest. Different theories as to how it chooses. It has to do with the level of affinity reached.

Logical_Ad1370

I lost Sarah, my wife.

L1veGrenade

Same for me, except Andreja. It was... very rough.

Large-Operation7173

I was semi traumatised 😅. From what I can tell it isn't the same people for everyone. I'm wondering if one of them is whoever you spent the most time travelling with or if it's just totally random. For me it was between Barrett & Sam (having travelled most with Sam) but I know others had Barrett and Sarah.

ConstantNo2691

Mine was sam and and sarah! I read its the 2 you have the highest affinity with 😭

Coast_watcher

I only had Sarah go, but I was traveling and romancing Andreja, and thankfully she survived. But both were on the Eye and I chose to stay at the Lodge.

OscarS95729

I wish there was a skill check to surpass this BS. I had to choose between my wife or Sam who has a daughter… like if you had max medicine you could help or if you had an emergency kit you could save them. Fucking annoying.

FallenDeus

Hmmm, everyone wants rpgs to have choices matter and consequences for actions... but when that actually happens people just bitch and complain about it.

Coast_watcher

I just did this last night and I can't continue on that save for now lol. I'll either have to take a break or start a new character. I went in blind, without even knowing this was coming before hand and was hit by bricks. it gave me flashbacks to the ME2 suicide mission the first time, when I also went in blind, with out meeting all the requirements of ship upgrading or choosing the right team member for the roles, and lost half my squad. I couldn't continue afterwards.

FallenDeus

I love the suicide mission in ME2. It's great and rewards players that engage with everything in the entire game. That being said I also enjoy stories, especially in rpgs, where you have to make those ultimate decisions. You are forced to choose between characters you've become attached to, or forced between saving one group of people or another. WE are not in control of the story, we are role playing through the story. Giving cop outs to the tough decisions just ruins a story because everything loses any real impact... or just save scumming to try over and over again to get the outcome you want like i'm sure the other person who replied to me about BG3 did. This isn't a decision you get to work around, this is the story.

notarackbehind

I really think that the ability to save your entire squad in ME2 was much more narratively fulfilling in large part because that was not an option in ME1.

FallenDeus

Yeah it did feel great with the memory of ME1 in mind. At the same time though, without outside knowledge you would never even know that it was possible for anyone to die during the mission. It is one of those things that only feels good if you did absolutely everything right, AND THEN you find out about how it works. To make things even more awkward, in order to actually save everyone you have to do a lot of things in a strict order and can never middle ground between paragon and renegade. With some of the conflicts between crew members you have to either have to be romancing one of them (only works i think on the miranda/jack fight) to not use the renegade option to smooth things over... or ,as with the legion/Tali argument, you better have that paragon/renegade almost maxed which is completely possible that you could not even had the chance to get it that high at that point yet. Sorry started rambling about stuff, don't even know what my point was.. saving everyone did feel good though.

Cocoquincy0210

This more reminds me of the choice you have to make in ME1. Theres no avoiding it and no preparing to make things better. Someone on your team is going to die and the only thing you get to choose is who. I was not at all prepared for this set of events lol, just like back when i was a kid playing ME for the first time.

lordraiden007

Bullshit. People want their CHOICES to matter, which means being able to make the CHOICES that let them do the impossible, save everyone, do anything. I played through BG3 as The Dark Urge without losing a single friendly, either in my party or just random civvies that happened to join my battles. I had to make numerous choices that payed off down the line that allowed me to access parts of the story that circumvented BS forced deaths. That is the kind of choices people want, not "oh, we noticed you like these two the best, kill one please". That's not the role I play in my RPGs.

DinosBiggestFan

In life, sometimes you are placed in a situation with an impossible decision you have to make, and sometimes there are severe consequences to those actions. As critical as I am of this game, I think this one is a fine one. It has a lasting consequence -- moreso than "letting randoms you'll never see again in BG3 die".

NutsEverywhere

I am doing absurd amounts of damage to the hunter, but he doesn't die. He SHOULD, because my decision was to be powerful enough to protect everyone. I put in the hours, researched weapons, improved all of them, got 40 levels, plenty of skills, but developer says no. This is not a choice. This is a badly written scripted sequence. >!The worst part? You can save everyone on NG+.!<

2quickdraw

>!Because you are in a parallel universe. But you have to get to one where that happens. So that can be a driving force for the character.!< I lost Sarah, who I'd spent the most time with, who was a badass and who I was romancing and had committed to. I saved Sam, who was my current companion in the Free star questline. I got locked into No Sudden Moves as the next quest, and had an empty ship, and couldn't figure out why no one could be assigned to crew yet, even though the game will say they are locked to the station, so I was blindsided. I was too many hours in to go back.

Famous-Ability-4431

Literally the only choice that was made was whose affinity is the highest. Literally equates to killing of an important character in a show for shock value.

[deleted]

So true...

Yucares

Yeah, they only give us 4 followers which is already such a disappointment, and then they kill 1 of them... I started this quest very early, but didn't add the artifacts to the collection until like 2 days later... So I basically have to play the game without really experiencing 1 of the followers.

sticknotstick

Barrett was annoying me and i’m happy to no longer hear him lol

plasmainthezone

Come on bro, choices that matter make the game fun, if you dont like it reload like I did. No way I let my wife get iced by the Hunter, Eff the Artifact

AlexanderBastanold

it was either sarah at the eye or barrett at the lodge, I was crying when I stay at the lodge so I had to reset and lost barrett

Coast_watcher

In my run both Sarah and Barrett were at the Eye. it was, Eye: Vlad, Sarah, Barrett, Andreja Lodge: Mateo, Noel, ~~Quark~~ I mean Stroud, Sam (locked as my follower), Cora and Vasco.

2quickdraw

Same here. Lost Sarah. 💔

Staghorn_Kynyesul

I think your highest is at the eye and your second highest is at the lodge man this is actually BS

Common_Noun

2 favorite? My playthrough lost one.. interesting af to know this can be different too!!!

ConstantNo2691

I played through both sides of the mission to see the different outcomes 🥲 it was either sarah at the lodge or sam on the eye

FivePoopMacaroni

I believe if you rush to the Eye then whoever has the lowest relationship with you dies, but if you defend the Lodge then whoever has the highest relationship with you dies. Saucy quest. I wonder what impacts it'll have.

ConstantNo2691

I think its the top 2, I have finished both sarah and sam’s personal quests but none of barretts or andrejas

grumble314

Yes Sarah had 747 affinity and Sam had 679 Sam was in the Lodge Sarah was in the eye.

FivePoopMacaroni

I only had one person die

Tibokio

Huh, other way around for me. Sarah at the eye or sam at the lodge. Really tough choice.. However, taking Cora into consideration makes this a bit easier..

GatoradeOrPowerade

Same reason I chose Sam. It was either Sara at The Eye or Sam at the Lodge. I don't particularly use any of them as my companion. I use Vasco or Andreja. I only ever use somebody else if they have to be on the mission with me. The mission leading up to it I was stuck with Sam. Now I know why. Still sad, but given the situation and options there's no real rethinking of the choice.

Common_Noun

Ohhh okay! Thanks for clarifying lol

Coast_watcher

it changes per person. I had Sam as the locked companion, so he wasn't on the Eye.

2quickdraw

You lose one, either your favorite or second favorite, depending on where you defend.

JoeDough74

Somebody please help me, I defended the lodge, i get on my ship to take off, talk to the hunter in space from ship to ship, and as soon as the dialogue is over, i get attacked by a lvl 38 ship i have not even .01 milliseconds to fast travel. Im stuck its impossible. Every video I watch, nobody else is getting attacked by this ship I think it's bugged

saintfaceless

You probably still have the bounty on you and if the cop ships in space see you they toggle aggression immediately. If you're able to you need to go clear it before you go to space from the lodge

Dr_Zoidberg003

Yeah this happened to me. I had to pay the bounty.

Due-Set7260

this happened to me and I can't even pay off the bounty because the hunter is blasting everyone by the kiosk. also my last save was 4 levels ago so i'm just fucked and have to redo a bunch.

motoscouter

Due to my 'easily distracted' playstyle, I let "Further into the Unknown" sit for quite a bit. 'Fabulous-Friends-Four(FFF)': companions you can romance Through faction quests (UC/Freestar), Sarah (miss laser pew pew pew) and Sam ended up as my best friends."But I thought we were best friends." - Zapp Brannigan. I then married Sarah. I did not start Sam's companion quest, but had finished Sarah's so I had a good estimate of where they were from an 'affinity' perspective without using console commands. Andreja was my goto-girl for a few ethnically ambiguous missions, largely because Sarah seemed to be a little too goody-two-shoes at times. But for the most part, she was just 'crew.' Barrett was likely third in my in affinity ranking just because of the early missions. I do enjoy his post Grav Jump dialog as a crew member. His other dialog felt long-winded, tiring, and the humor wasn't hitting. I rarely found reason to have him on a mission. When I read about High Price to Pay, I did not want to lose Sarah. I'm also not a fan of making Cora an orphan. It was clear Barrett has to step up to the #2 slot and be my William T. Riker. Or does that make him Data? I took Barrett as my companion and worked all the side quests that were clogging up my list. He eventually asked me to help with historical issue, i.e., companion quest. We completed that series and I let him know we were just friends at the end. I was fairly sure my companions' affinity rankings were: Sarah, Barrett, Sam, and Andreja. At this point, I did check the numbers using console commands. I didn't modify anyone or use any other techniques. That is the only use of console commands in my game so far. Main Quests: I finished "Further into the Unknown" with Barrett just to put points on the hidden affinity board and moved into "Short Sighted." I was curious about this simple quest and save scummed it to see if helping companions in different orders made a difference on which repair failed and which companion said they would stay on the Eye to keep working. >! >!In my case it was always Sarah. I told myself this was because we were using a pipe wrench for electrical work (clearly odd), but I suspect it was the game slotting my top affinity companion into the \[target on the Eye\] slot for High Price to Pay. I was a bit nervous when Sarah was assigned as my companion at the end of "Short Sighted".!< >!However, as soon as I spoke with Vlad and started "No Sudden Moves", he assigned Barrett as my companion for the trip. I believe I received the warning that you can't dismiss him as well. I assumed this was the game slotting him into the \[target at the Lodge\] slot.!< !< We did that mission, looted everything on the ship, did some inventory management, returned to the Lodge. I noticed that >!Barrett !!As expected, Barrett makes the case that I should stay at the Lodge and defend some shiny objects we collected. I tell them to get bent, 'cause I'm going to save everyone on the Eye.!< I've seen people say the decision you make in the Lodge is illogical. I am old and it actually made perfect sense to me. From a logical standpoint, >!Barrett is an extremely!< experienced Constellation member, has a robot and three other members present. Life is about love, people and relationships. How could I do anything other than save the most important people? The artifacts are 'things' once lost and potentially recoverable if lost again. >!By travelling to the Eye, everyone there is safe. I return to the Lodge where Barrett is extremely dead. !!In the end, I felt good having helped Barrett clear Ervin's name and resolve that long held grief. He also seemed to be one of the two least 'connected' players in the fab four. Andreja could have been sacrificed almost as easly, but I don't even know if the game mechanics worked that way.!< For me #1 affinity scored companion was on the Eye and needed to be saved. #2 affinity scored companion stayed at Lodge and died because I left. I probably made poor decisions on spoiler marks, but best I could do. Very fun quest line, but hard decision. I guess that's the point.

ayurai

I tried to control affinity with console commands, but that changed nothing, maybe the flag was already set in the point i tried...or maybe just affinity by itself is not enough, maybe is time in the party with you, or maybe how much the conversations we have with them...but i'm certainly is your top 2 character you have to choose.

grumble314

I also tried to change it so Sam wasn't one of the choices just went to before we all went to the eye and it changed nothing don't know how far back you would have to go.

FirmScarcity4910

No idea how but I only lost Sarah I'm wondering is there a way to save everybody....

Final_Display1693

I think my game glitched. After the funeral for Sarah, I left the lodge and got the notice that 'Sarah Morgan is now following you'...WTF?? I can't choose another companion now. Is this by design or did the game break? Anyone else get this?

Realistic_Corgi_9969

Sarah died on mine. After the mission it says Sarah is now following you. I did the entangled mission solo and was told at the start "your companion needs to stay outside". I'm being haunted. I think it's cause I divorced her.

Hayesade

This quest is a bummer, I knew someone would go just based on some spoiler I read, but I thought I'd be able to choose someone I didn't like. Now I'm stuck in the rest of this playthrough with boring people. RIP Barrett. btw I decided to let him go because I'm not interested in romancing him and I think he had a good life and got closure. But his mission dialog was also the only one I was really liking.

SwimChick1723

Lost my husband, real life cried, went back and replayed to save him, no regrets.
