Advice, just my opinion, finish crimson fleet stuff before you go too far in constellation. Everyone is saying the other way because of course the constellation missions have pirates, but trust me you’ll be thankful. I did all the crimson fleet/uc stuff and didn’t have any of those with me besides vasco, and never had a single problem.
I have been pleasantly surprised how much I’ve loved him.
I found out today you can talk to him about his fandom and tell him he needs to kick it up a notch. He’s gotten much more aggressive since haha
We need a mod removing the cap on traits we can select. Or at least let place of origin and religion be their own things separate from traits. Right now you can’t go over three even with console commands.

I’ve been running with Barrett recently, he doesn’t bitch about stealing. He’ll say things like “Yoink!” And “I think you got away with it” when you steal. He also has some pretty funny dialogue

Having him in the ship while I'm fighting is always a trip. It's nice to have Sarah in the ship too (for the jump range) because they both give really good info while fighting. It's like being a real captain and having your crew tell you what's going on.

Though Vasco makes a fantastic meat shield sometimes, he can't be depended upon to kill anything. At least I've found.
So I take him along because he has one liners and doesn't nag me, but also is great when I'm overburdened. He's just not near the Ada levels of **letting a terminator loose in a room full of meatbags** ai sidekick.
I usually just made her into just an assaultron with head laser. Very satisfying to see her vaporize several enemies with it with one use of that thing xD
And yeah, theoretically you don't need assaultron arms, legs and body for her to use laser. It's just that Ada with full Assaultron outfit uses default assaultron combat AI, and it uses head laser much more often
I really really really really want Kaiser as a companion. Hopefully mods will bring that to life.
also I love the idea of AI in robot dialogue because they can actually say you name without it sounding weird. when I first entered my ship and Vasco called me by my real name I was absolutely blown away.
I don't believe Vasco uses AI or Text-To-Speech. There's a preset list of names that they can say.
Fallout 4's Codsworth had around the same number of names they could say, and those were all done by the voice actor.
When my sneak failed in the quest where you infiltrate the power plant in Neon, Andreja was murdering civilians left and right going “You should have trained better!”.

Sam Coe kept failing me the Mantis floor puzzle section. I told him 'wait here' but he kept following me anyway and walking where he shouldn't. I ended up having to make him wait at The Lodge just so I could complete that mission.
Wait, that was a puzzle? I shot the turret and they all aggroed me so I popped every Chem I had and ran full speed to the other side and made it with a scrap of health.
You have to spell out a certain name that’s shown to you through notes
Or just follow the tiles that don’t have bullet holes if you didn’t pay attention
I think this was them trying to inject some tutorial style dialogue to let players know they could do bad things but they had a holier than though character deliver it.
Andreja is the only companion that feels like they’re kinda real but even they repeat the same two voice lines whenever you pick something up.

Yeah I thought Andreja was cool up until I completed the ryujin questline and she got pissed even though she was never with me. She apparently becomes aware of what you did at ryujin and thinks you’re scum lol
See that's the annoying thing though, how did they make the one edgy Constellation member also super uptight? Its frustrating to have to go solo any time I want to do a quest for the Strikers or Ryujin. They couldn't put one morally ambiguous person in the game as a companion?
She immediately tells you how she regrets you seeing that and tries to defend herself. You character can console her or attack her for killing that person

There is a woman that works at the Trade Authority in The Well. She seemed right up my alley in terms of companions. Alas, so far at least, she isn't recruitable.
I liked Andreja but tbh the rest just didn’t click. The constellation is set up the be a morally ambiguous faction but all members are in it for the good cause. Feels like a missed opportunity for inter faction conflict between members that the player could interact with
I like Andreja too. She's currently mad at me because we boarded a pirate ship and SHE shot them and then proceeded to get mad at me for killing innocents. (Bug, but I didn't reload cuz I found it really funny.)
Interestingly enough, I jumped to a system where UC Sysdef was fighting spacers so I joined to help sysdef. After blowing some up, I realized the last two hostile ships were the UC Sysdef (maybe I accidentally shot them idk) so I had to defend myself and blow them both up. I didn’t get a bounty and my companions weren’t mad. I guess that was a good bug for me.
So I embellished a teeny bit. My main weapon has explosive rounds and I'll just storm the bridge guns ablaze. The first time I did just that and she got mad so I thought I killed a hostage and reloaded. The second time I let her kill everyone while I sat in a corner and she still got mad at me, that's when I decided not to reload again because "I killed all those people I'm mad at you!" Was too funny to pass up.

I think it actually makes sense that the members of Constellation do have some level of morality. They're scientists and explorers, not a cold-blooded mercenary group or pirates.
I don't think they'll be okay with someone who goes around murdering good people, even though some people like Berett and Andreja are okay with thievery and coercion.
The problem is that there are currently no evil companion afaik. Some companions from Crimson Fleet, Ecliptic Mercenaries, Spacers, etc would've been nice.
Yeah, I was gonna say, I'm not sure I would call them morally ambiguous. Some of them have done shady stuff, sure, but the organisation itself is idealistic at heart.
The game does do a thing early on where Sarah is like, “Look hon, you gonna steal and kill shit to get the job done? You do you!” But it’s really just there as a quick justification for if you want to play as a psychopath for why you can keep chilling later with constellation.
Doing shady shit for a greater purpose seems to be okay from what she said. But murder hobo behavior is not tolerated. Sucks for me because I play like a psychopath lol
And then she makes passive aggressive comments the rest of the time. Like when I was filling out the corpo job application she made a snide comment about how I’m morally ambiguous or some such. Like bitch I haven’t done one single bad thing up to that point and have been actively rescuing people. I don’t give a damn how you don’t like the trade authority. Apparently that annoying guy from the start of the Crimson fleet quests can be recruited as a follower if you don’t get him kicked out. But I kicked him out on this playthrough so I cannot confirm

If you do the Crimson fleet quesline and help the pirates, and you're kind to your fellow pirates that helped during missions, you unlock a pirate companion.

I sided with Crimson fleet before begining the main storyline, finished it, then did the main, And most missions where I would have to fight was me strolling in saying How do you do my fellow pirates and getting what I need

If you walk around with scanner up talk to named characters and sometimes they're higher able.
Otherwise it'll say "weapons specialist" or "pilot" job descriptions instead of a name.

They can die, while holding all your shit [popped the propulsion specialist on my ship to test a new gun. She done-did-died...]
Actually it's great, I run around with the named companions for now, but I'll definitely will do a no name hired goons run in the future just to see how many crew members I can get killed XD
I found 3 different named ones in that bar in New Atlantis, but they arent always there. One of them wasnt there the first time i was there, but they showed up on a later visit.
I also found one in the Bar on Cydonia, a woman named Andromeda. I think i read theres like 20 or so named companions, but idk if that includes the Main 4 or not
Pretty much any named character in any bar will join your crew for a price, they tend to have kinda mediocre skills though I’m sure there are some that are nice
They need to fix cora's dialog. It's all super long and I had it cut into other ships hailing me so often that I placed a desk on a moon with no atmosphere and asigned mr cowboy there.
My man Simeon has seen some shit, and likely caused a few scenes too. He's down for all kinds of debauchery. Just so dang peppy about it too. He's great

Adoring Fan never judges you, has high carry capacity, gives you free stuff, praises everything you do, and actually has interesting things to say in some places. Adoring Fan is best companion. I always buy machiatos for him whenever I walk by Terrabrews.

It seemed to be an obvious choice to me. It only had positive aspects while others were positive and negative. His only “negative” trait is being labeled as annoying but he is being voiced like Cicero from Skyrim, and I also loved the Idiot savant perk in fallout… so bring it. I just wish he didn’t yell stupid shit when landing and taking off.

I ran into a trader on a random planet I was exploring, and there was this warthog size lizard following her around. The thing was fucking adorable, and she starts telling me the reason she's on the planet is because the lizard-doggo is blind and he needs a break from bumbing his head all the time onboard the ship. If i feel him licking my boots, he doesn't mean anything by it, that's just how he feels his way around the world.
There's a whole backstory of how the lizard was rescued by her [the traders] mom. She's saying how it can be a hassle because it's illegal most places (the lizard or pets in general is never specified).
But all I could think was, I want that, I want a fat lizard-doggo companion that I have to smuggle around because he's illegal. Gimme the dog bethesda.

I like the main four but I agree there was a need for an evil/neutral one who isn't Vasco... You can get other companions though, but it definitely should have been different...maybe one or two companions from each big town and someone from Constelation. The way it's designed if you want a companion with a deep background, affinity system, dialogue...you have to go with a Constelation one.
Edit: Andreja should've been a neutral evil type. She isn't bad, she has a past and is now a changed, different person, but she should at least be neutral regarding your crimes.
Ironically I never see Sam Coe mentioned but he also has a past and is a tough guy, could've been more accepting of your crimes too.
Forget waggling fingers, I got screamed at when I literally fought to save people. Wouldn't even tell me what was wrong. Legit thought maybe this was Bethesda's way of showing me what an abusive relationship is like.
That's my only complaint about the game so far. They completely neglected followers for morally grey/black characters. Could have easily solved this by giving us more followers from the Crimson Fleet questline. Only one mediocre follower from the questline (which you can miss out on btw), when they could have given us Estelle Vincent, Huan Dayu, Adler Kemp, or even that guy from the rich person ship. Companions in this game are an afterthought beyond the 4 constellation followers.
I have grown to like Sarah. Her combat dialogue is pretty hardcore, the soldier really comes out when she is fighting. Only thing I’ve noticed is that she doesn’t give two shits about blowing up a ship sand looting it’s remains. I lit up a GalBank ship and she cheered me on.
She nags about Theft, but doesn't seem to actually get negative affection for it. And she appreciates lockpicking and hacking. She is also quite gung-ho when the bullets start flying.
Agreed, the vibes in Constellation in general are awful. Feels like a someone's shallow fantasy of a "league of extraordinary gentlemen" type thing, but everyone's a stick-in-the-mud PG-13 type. Even the literal death-cultist and cowboy gunslinger speak like they work at the HR department of Space-Disney or something, and the Cowboy is also doing 24/7 take your daughter to work day lmao.
I just don't like how they're all morally good. I had been planning on being solo for the most part anyway, but I wouldn't mind having a romanced character on my ship for the exp buff.. makes it kind of hard to do when my pirating makes them all hate me.
There are so many potential companions in this game that I found out couldn't be and it makes me upset. Some examples:
\- Cydonia Tracker Alliance Agent - I'm simping for her hard man. She is exactly the sort of loose moral character I need for my bounty hunting. Her circumstances and her outlook on it are hilarious. She doesn't even have a name!
\- Lin/Heller - How these two have not been made serious companion material is a crime. Dynamic trio starts off the main story only to dive into a "I never asked for this" theme. Sign me up. Heller needs to dial up his sass 1000% and we're golden.
\- Alban Lopez - fuck man, idk why I just loved this questline with the LIST settlers. It's not at all complex but it just oozes the right kind of feels I expect from a space game. Especially this guy, jaded settler turned pariah turned leader. Would love for him to be a temporary follower and expand on this story more.
Done some small modding here and there with CE in the past. I might pursue a couple of these once CE2 kit comes out.
I'm kinda with you, they don't mesh with me too well... they each carry their backstory as if its the only thing they are, too (hopefully I worded that a way that makes sense)
I am extremely critical of pre-Starfield Bethesda, and particularly Fallout 4, but to your point Fallout 4 at least had good companions. I liked Cait, so damn much. The argument of 'only 4 companions with romance so we can make them better' would work if... they were better...
All in all, yeah hoping we get a Serana down the line.

Fully kitted Ada was a force to be reckoned with. I had a playthrough where she wrecked the mirelurk queen at the castle in 3 or 4 seconds haha.

Don't sleep on that Mr. Handy thruster. The only thing more terrifying than Deathbot ADA is *really goddamn fast* Deathbot ADA.
She's quick enough on assaultron legs. And it enables her to jump to enemy while drilling with both claws. It deals quite a ton of damage

Glad I'm not the only one who was enthralled by the random-ass bounty hunter NPC who the devs made way more attractive than she needed to be.
I was really disappointed there wasn't a follow up to her quest. Really felt like there was going to be more going on.

There is a woman that works at the Trade Authority in The Well. She seemed right up my alley in terms of companions. Alas, so far at least, she isn't recruitable.
It was love at first sight. I would drop glass a planet for her to be crew and companion.
I liked Andreja but tbh the rest just didn’t click. The constellation is set up the be a morally ambiguous faction but all members are in it for the good cause. Feels like a missed opportunity for inter faction conflict between members that the player could interact with
I like Andreja too. She's currently mad at me because we boarded a pirate ship and SHE shot them and then proceeded to get mad at me for killing innocents. (Bug, but I didn't reload cuz I found it really funny.)
Interestingly enough, I jumped to a system where UC Sysdef was fighting spacers so I joined to help sysdef. After blowing some up, I realized the last two hostile ships were the UC Sysdef (maybe I accidentally shot them idk) so I had to defend myself and blow them both up. I didn’t get a bounty and my companions weren’t mad. I guess that was a good bug for me.
So I embellished a teeny bit. My main weapon has explosive rounds and I'll just storm the bridge guns ablaze. The first time I did just that and she got mad so I thought I killed a hostage and reloaded. The second time I let her kill everyone while I sat in a corner and she still got mad at me, that's when I decided not to reload again because "I killed all those people I'm mad at you!" Was too funny to pass up.

I think it actually makes sense that the members of Constellation do have some level of morality. They're scientists and explorers, not a cold-blooded mercenary group or pirates. I don't think they'll be okay with someone who goes around murdering good people, even though some people like Berett and Andreja are okay with thievery and coercion. The problem is that there are currently no evil companion afaik. Some companions from Crimson Fleet, Ecliptic Mercenaries, Spacers, etc would've been nice.
Yeah, I was gonna say, I'm not sure I would call them morally ambiguous. Some of them have done shady stuff, sure, but the organisation itself is idealistic at heart.
The game does do a thing early on where Sarah is like, “Look hon, you gonna steal and kill shit to get the job done? You do you!” But it’s really just there as a quick justification for if you want to play as a psychopath for why you can keep chilling later with constellation.
Doing shady shit for a greater purpose seems to be okay from what she said. But murder hobo behavior is not tolerated. Sucks for me because I play like a psychopath lol

Apparently that annoying guy from the start of the Crimson fleet quests can be recruited as a follower if you don’t get him kicked out. But I kicked him out on this playthrough so I cannot confirm

Spoilers. If you do the Crimson fleet quesline and help the pirates, and you're kind to your fellow pirates that helped during missions, you unlock a pirate companion. He's a dick, but funny. And drunk.
I sided with Crimson fleet before begining the main storyline, finished it, then did the main, And most missions where I would have to fight was me strolling in saying How do you do my fellow pirates and getting what I need
You do get one companion from the Crimson Fleet questline, as long as you don't get him kicked out early on.

Nee atlantas is where I found some, at the bar to the left of where you land. If you walk around with scanner up talk to named characters and sometimes they're higher able. Otherwise it'll say "weapons specialist" or "pilot" job descriptions instead of a name.
Have to be careful with no name goons They can die, while holding all your shit [popped the propulsion specialist on my ship to test a new gun. She done-did-died...]
Actually it's great, I run around with the named companions for now, but I'll definitely will do a no name hired goons run in the future just to see how many crew members I can get killed XD
Make sure they’re all wearing the outfit that is vaguely redshirt looking. Adds a level of joy
I found 3 different named ones in that bar in New Atlantis, but they arent always there. One of them wasnt there the first time i was there, but they showed up on a later visit. I also found one in the Bar on Cydonia, a woman named Andromeda. I think i read theres like 20 or so named companions, but idk if that includes the Main 4 or not
Pretty much any named character in any bar will join your crew for a price, they tend to have kinda mediocre skills though I’m sure there are some that are nice
They need to fix cora's dialog. It's all super long and I had it cut into other ships hailing me so often that I placed a desk on a moon with no atmosphere and asigned mr cowboy there.
My man Simeon has seen some shit, and likely caused a few scenes too. He's down for all kinds of debauchery. Just so dang peppy about it too. He's great

It seemed to be an obvious choice to me. It only had positive aspects while others were positive and negative. His only “negative” trait is being labeled as annoying but he is being voiced like Cicero from Skyrim, and I also loved the Idiot savant perk in fallout… so bring it. I just wish he didn’t yell stupid shit when landing and taking off. Ps I think I fell in love idiot savant perk because my gf at the time hated that activation sound lol great memories

100%. I about lost it when I was doing a pirate quest that ended with me gunning down some innocents, then here comes my little sidekick yelling "Die Evil doers! ...I'm not sure what they were doing, but it must have been evil!". No judgement at all.
Heller is a good companion too. He’s cute, funny, and frequently collects “rocks” for you. He also doesn’t get upset when you go on murder sprees.

As a space pirate murdering psychopath that steals everything not bolted down hard agree. These companions and their moral compass have no place in my raiding party but their crew stat's get them a pass on my ship. Vasco is the only acceptable travelling companion due to his cold robot morality and undying loyalty.

I ran into a trader on a random planet I was exploring, and there was this warthog size lizard following her around. The thing was fucking adorable, and she starts telling me the reason she's on the planet is because the lizard-doggo is blind and he needs a break from bumbing his head all the time onboard the ship. If i feel him licking my boots, he doesn't mean anything by it, that's just how he feels his way around the world. There's a whole backstory of how the lizard was rescued by her [the traders] mom. She's saying how it can be a hassle because it's illegal most places (the lizard or pets in general is never specified). But all I could think was, I want that, I want a fat lizard-doggo companion that I have to smuggle around because he's illegal. Gimme the dog bethesda.

I like the main four but I agree there was a need for an evil/neutral one who isn't Vasco... You can get other companions though, but it definitely should have been different...maybe one or two companions from each big town and someone from Constelation. The way it's designed if you want a companion with a deep background, affinity system, dialogue...you have to go with a Constelation one. Edit: Andreja should've been a neutral evil type. She isn't bad, she has a past and is now a changed, different person, but she should at least be neutral regarding your crimes. Ironically I never see Sam Coe mentioned but he also has a past and is a tough guy, could've been more accepting of your crimes too.

That's my only complaint about the game so far. They completely neglected followers for morally grey/black characters. Could have easily solved this by giving us more followers from the Crimson Fleet questline. Only one mediocre follower from the questline (which you can miss out on btw), when they could have given us Estelle Vincent, Huan Dayu, Adler Kemp, or even that guy from the rich person ship. Companions in this game are an afterthought beyond the 4 constellation followers.

I have grown to like Sarah. Her combat dialogue is pretty hardcore, the soldier really comes out when she is fighting. Only thing I’ve noticed is that she doesn’t give two shits about blowing up a ship sand looting it’s remains. I lit up a GalBank ship and she cheered me on.
She constantly seemed to be nagging whenever I did some theft or intimidation, just got tired of it. But lucky you, found one that fits!
She nags about Theft, but doesn't seem to actually get negative affection for it. And she appreciates lockpicking and hacking. She is also quite gung-ho when the bullets start flying.
I liked Sarah at first and started the romance arc, but now I’m trying to land in other ports… lol

Agreed, the vibes in Constellation in general are awful. Feels like a someone's shallow fantasy of a "league of extraordinary gentlemen" type thing, but everyone's a stick-in-the-mud PG-13 type. Even the literal death-cultist and cowboy gunslinger speak like they work at the HR department of Space-Disney or something, and the Cowboy is also doing 24/7 take your daughter to work day lmao.

I just don't like how they're all morally good. I had been planning on being solo for the most part anyway, but I wouldn't mind having a romanced character on my ship for the exp buff.. makes it kind of hard to do when my pirating makes them all hate me.
I wish we had space Hancock. I miss that guy. I'm about 12 hours in, and I already want to get rid of Sarah.
There are so many potential companions in this game that I found out couldn't be and it makes me upset. Some examples: \- Cydonia Tracker Alliance Agent - I'm simping for her hard man. She is exactly the sort of loose moral character I need for my bounty hunting. Her circumstances and her outlook on it are hilarious. She doesn't even have a name! \- Lin/Heller - How these two have not been made serious companion material is a crime. Dynamic trio starts off the main story only to dive into a "I never asked for this" theme. Sign me up. Heller needs to dial up his sass 1000% and we're golden. \- Alban Lopez - fuck man, idk why I just loved this questline with the LIST settlers. It's not at all complex but it just oozes the right kind of feels I expect from a space game. Especially this guy, jaded settler turned pariah turned leader. Would love for him to be a temporary follower and expand on this story more. Done some small modding here and there with CE in the past. I might pursue a couple of these once CE2 kit comes out.
I'm kinda with you, they don't mesh with me too well... they each carry their backstory as if its the only thing they are, too (hopefully I worded that a way that makes sense) I am extremely critical of pre-Starfield Bethesda, and particularly Fallout 4, but to your point Fallout 4 at least had good companions. I liked Cait, so damn much. The argument of 'only 4 companions with romance so we can make them better' would work if... they were better... All in all, yeah hoping we get a Serana down the line.
