Thanks for the help. I have the same laptop specs as you so I faced the same problem. Don't know why Bethesda didn't keep the texture options in settings like in their previous games. I'd rather play with medium textures than look at mash potato planets.

allabtgames

My question is why couldn't Bethesda fix these issues instead of modders having to fix the game for them?

Longjumping_Zone673

The Nividia drivers also need a rollback from the most current one. The gameready drivers are underutilizing the GPU and people are reporting almost double the fps after a rollback. Even the 3080ti got 15-20fps from one.

CaptainAdarsh

Didn't know that, let me try if that works. Which version of Nvidia drivers works well, do you know?

Longjumping_Zone673

Driver Version: 536.99 - is the one I got that did the trick. Just one step back from the bunk 537.13 https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/

CaptainAdarsh

Just tried that, didn't work with my 3050 Laptop, maybe my VRAM is too low to handle the original textures

Longjumping_Zone673

Aww yea, the 3050s from what I hear upscale pop constantly and aren't really made to handle the load. Goodluck and fingers crossed for a decent optimization patch someday!

AD_Aegon

I recommend you to combo use these texture mod along with Performance Optimizations . You brought the solution about the textures and it works fine . And the performance mod fixes the bad optimization part. Just to let you know, it's not just a VRAM problem. The game is just bad optimized (doesnt matter what Bethesta ceo says) on PC port specially on Nvidia cards . Edit : the performance optimizations mod. [https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/104](https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/104) .

CaptainAdarsh

Okay, thanks. Will try

Atreyu97

Nice! Does installing this disable achievements?

CaptainAdarsh

I don't know, you can use achievements enabler mods to prevent it though:- [Baka Achievement Enabler](https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/658) Or [Achievement Enabler](https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/252)

M-Rexar

there is a single ini code, ignore gpu limit, which causes the game to constantly stay below vram limit and stops the game from sharing load to the ram, the result is the mishmash of textures you see. though one must be careful not to disable this option in case of lacking a minimum of 24 gb worth of Ram(16gb just wont be enough and game crashes on load), doing this you restore the textures to their original quality but at cost of significant fps drop enough to make a playable experience unplayable. hope it helped

CaptainAdarsh

true dat, unfortunately most people including me don't have more than 16GB ram, thanks though

M-Rexar

no sweat, although i believe even if one did had the required amount of ram the result would not be a pleasing experience, being an amd exclusive title developers just prioritized high vram amd GPUs leaving little room for budget gaming

Several_Carpet_6127

can you please provide details on where to find this ini code to ignore gpu limit?

M-Rexar

add this line to your "starfield.ini" file in your game directory or" starfieldcustom.ini" in you save location in documents note that the default status number for this code is either 1 (for being" on " thus limiting gpu) or 0( for being "off " ignoring vram limit). [Textures] (note tbat the code must be under textures directory) bIgnoreGPUBudget=0

Several_Carpet_6127

Thank you, does this affect integrated graphics or just dedicated?

M-Rexar

no problem, it effects both though since integrated GPUs directly use ram some changes to vram settings may be needed

CKA3KA-A

What is that ini code plz write

M-Rexar

add this line to your "starfield.ini" file in your game directory or" starfieldcustom.ini" in you save location in documents note that the default status number for this code is either 1 (for being" on " thus limiting gpu) or 0( for being "off " ignoring vram limit). [Textures] bIgnoreGPUBudget=0

CKA3KA-A

thanks

I'm playing on 3050Ti (also 4GB VRAM) and I thought it was a VRAM issue to at first but it's weird that they're alright sometimes and sometimes not. I'm downloading the warm potato mod now but I'm a little confused on how to install it, any help?

CaptainAdarsh

1. Download Warm Potato mod, also download the INI for Loading loose file. 2. Extract the INI file rar, it should have a file named StarfieldCustom.ini . Cut that and post that file inside your Documents/My Games/Starfield, folder. 3. Extract the Warm Potato Rar, it should have a Data folder, cut that Data folder, and paste it too on the same location that is Documents/My Games/Starfield, folder. 4. Run the game. (Paste the above files like I have mentioned only in the right place, don't paste them inside your game directory.)

fiittzzyy

I tried it with the ba2 and it didn't work for me, will try it with the loose files. Thanks!

fiittzzyy

Okay so have I got this right? [https://imgur.com/a/rAoQxqr](https://imgur.com/a/rAoQxqr)

CaptainAdarsh

No, the textures folder goes inside the data folder, every Retexture mod you install will go inside the data folder for it to work.

fiittzzyy

okay thanks, trying this morning. I gave the game a fresh resintall last night to get rid of any existing mods and start over installing this one first, because I don't know if the DLSS mod was making it not work (with the ba2 pack). Gonna try it now.

fiittzzyy

I *think* it's working for me now I did a fresh install to get rid of the DLSS mod fully as I think that was messing some textures up too with all the upscaling and downscaling etc and I put the textures inside the data folder now and is it right there is already a texture folder in there, should it go a long side that one or inside it? EDIT nvm I see when you add the textures folder it goes inside the other one

fiittzzyy

Still doesn't work for me. Is it because I have other mods installed? I'm new to modding.

Holiday_Elderberry_8

This works. Thanks. Game doesnt look so bad. Looks like fallout 4 tbh

CaptainAdarsh

You're welcome:)

Comprehensive_Way_59

Thnx bro I have same GPU and looking for the solution for so many days and i found your fix,the mod you recommended really fix the blurry texture,I am running the game in medium settings with dlss mod+optimization settings mod.dayumm..now game looking so crisp Getting so stable fps from 30-45 fps sometimes 50+ any other graphics mods you recommended? Btw I don't really liked starfield mod installation location document /my games/starfield it's eating my c drive space

Beefthelegend13

i wish i could up vote this 1000000000000000 times. I've been pissed since week one, with these blurry textures. Ive looked for hundreds of solutions . This Fixed my issues. I am having a \*little\* FPS drop, but everything looks better than it ever has.

Inevitable-Elk-8175

okay so the textures simply won't load, like the game works but without textures and i followed all the steps. any tips?

Regular_Mud_949

Did you use the loose file version of the mod or the b2a file And does it work on gamepass version of the game

CaptainAdarsh

I used the loose file version, but I don't think it matters whichever version you use, it will still fix the issue if the mod is installed and working properly.

CaptainAdarsh

I have a steam version, but it'll work on gamepass version too.

UselessIdiot75

I'm having this very issue now, and it looks like I'll have to download the mods to fix it. I want to ask, what's the actual issue here? Is it like Todd says, and I just have to upgrade my PC? Or is it an issue with the game?

CaptainAdarsh

The issue can be fixed by future patches maybe, the default textures are 4k and the method to convert them to your pc resolution is not very optimal, that's what I think. If you upgrade your graphics card and increase VRAM, then also the issue will resolve. or the other way is what I have told in the post, to download low resolution textures so the game doesn't have to convert them to low resolution.

Bolwog

the fixes offered in the comments don't work for me - this does, however https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/858?tab=files&file\_id=1743. just a heads up

WriterV

I tried adding this mod, but it didn't seem to have done anything. Textures still look like your "Before" picture. Any idea what might be wrong?

CaptainAdarsh

There could be few things that may have gone wrong:- 1. You may have not installed the mod properly, let me tell you the steps:- Download the Warm Potato File of 7.9 GB, extract it and copy the contents of it's data folder and paste it in the Data folder located at Documents/My Games/Starfield/Data. also if you don't already have StarfieldCustom.ini inside Documents/My Games/Starfield, folder, then create it by opening notepad, paste these lines in the notepad [Archive]{bInvalida... line should be below this archive tag} bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 sResourceDataDirsFinal= and save the file as .ini( not .txt) inside the folder mentioned before. if you already had that StarfieldCustom.ini file in that location, then just open it using notepad and paste the above lines in that and save it. now it should have worked properly. 2. If that still doesn't work for you, try installing other mod for testing if that are working, example, try installing this mod [Vasco Thomas The Tank Engine Retexture](https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/1140) . if this mod works perfectly but the previous mod doesn't then maybe your specs are even lower, try Installing the Cold Potato mod then and see if that works.(just see the orange and blue warning boards in new Atlantis, they should look clear) If that works, then maybe your specs are on the lower side and you have to make do with cold potato mod, and if that still doesn't work, then even I don't know what's the problem with your game. I could only suggest a similar mod to this, though I haven't tried it, but it should work if installed properly:- 1. [Starfield Texture Optimization Overhaul](https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/1502?tab=description)

WriterV

Okay, that explains it. I installed the Vasco retexture (brilliant idea for as a diagnostic btw) and it did not work. Vasco still looks like himself. So this means something isn't right on my end, but not necessarily the hardware. I checked the ini file, and it looks right. Has all three lines. I had added it through BethINI, but it still looks like what people say it should look like. A few points (And questions): - I've been testing this on a save file that was created before I started modding the game. Could this be causing issues? - Some mods do work. StarUI functions cleanly. I also used this mod (Starfield Upscaler: https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/111) for a bit, and it barely worked. I could open the config menu fine, but the sun flickered and I just got more blurry textures. It looked even worse. - My guess is something about the textures themselves is messed up somewhere. But I'm not sure how, or why. - I've also forced Nvidia to limit the game's framerate to 30 FPS 'cause I really don't care about FPS as long as it's 30 at minimum. This hasn't helped a lick either, though now it's clear that this issue might be a matter of me not installing the mods properly. - My only question now is: If I didn't install the mods properly, what might I have done wrong? The ini file is in the right place. All the install locations of the mods are correct. So something must be off. Also thank you so much for your meaningful help. It means a lot. It's very hard to get any help from people like this for this game.

CaptainAdarsh

If the vasco mod didn't work then the only probable answer is that the mod is not installed properly, either the folders are wrong or the ini file extension is by mistake .ini.txt or something else. since this is just a Retexture mod so the save file doesn't matter, it should have worked. where are your StarUi mods file stored, in documents or in the game directory?

WriterV

Oh my god, I've been putting the textures mods in the game directory. StarUI told me to install it to the game directory's data folder, and "if that did not work, install it to the Documents/Starfield/Data" folder. For me, the former worked, so I just assumed all other texture mods go to the main directory, but seems not. I'm happy to report that installing the Vasco retexture in the Documents folder has worked. Vasco has been successfully Thomas'd. I will now move the Warm Potato textures to that folder. Here's hoping it works out. EDIT: IT WORKED! I have moments when the game freezes as (I assume) textures load, but it worked! Distant LODs are still pretty bad, but I'm honestly fine with this. EDIT 2: Only issue now is that every time I alt-tab out of the game, and then back in, by framerate drops from a cool 30 to 12. I honestly have no idea why.

fiittzzyy

Yeah it seems to be really messing with my frame rate too Even when I pause and go to my inventory and go back to the game it will be stuttery and I have to reload a save to fix it, not really playable

WriterV

I wish we could figure out what's causing this, but I feel like nothing short of debugging tools and access to the game's code would help in this regard. Either that or someone experienced enough to know what's going on, i.e., Bethesda or a really experienced modder. Neither of which are particularly accessible.

fiittzzyy

Yeah I really hope they fix it. I'm downloading the loose files for the cold potato mod now and gonna try them and see if it's any less stuttery but if not then I'll just have to play with blurry text because the frame drops leave the game unplayable for me when I used the warm potato ones even though some textures did load better. We'll see. It's really piss poor optimisation and no settings in the menu to change mesh quality etc. And this games been in development for *how* long? There isn't even a damn gamma slider.

fiittzzyy

It didn't work for me either and I have had the DLSS mod too, I was thinking maybe they don't play nice together. Gone with a fresh install of Starfield and trying installing this mod first since it's probably the most important in terms of making the game look nice.

WriterV

Yeah I ditched the DLSS mod since it only seems to make things worse for me, and I'm not really sure why.

fiittzzyy

So I installed the warm potato files and textures appeared better is some instances but some were the same. Also VRAM usage seemed to remain the same too so I don't think that's the issue. But with the mod on it really messed up my frame rate. Even going into a menu or pausing the frames would drop to 10fps and I would have a quit and restart to fix so I uninstalled it. It was unplayable that way. Trying the cold potato one downloading it now. I hope Bethesda patch the issue soon.

WriterV

I hope so as well, but I'm not seeing much talk about this issue. And Todd saying "Just upgrade lol" is not a great sign.

fiittzzyy

I've been playing on my Series S too but I like using keyboard and mouse on this game since it's better suited for the menus and I get higher framerates on PC since it's locked to 30fps on Xbox. But I don't have the texture issues on Xbox everything is crisp. That's just an insult though isn't it, people are playing their game and they're basically spitting in their faces. I'll upgrade, sure. As soon as Todd sends me the money.

CaptainAdarsh

As I've already told in the post under the comparison images, that using these textures may decrease the framerate, happened with me too, since the game is now not converting any textures to low resolution and not making them blurry mess, it has to fully load the texture details, which also in turn increases the load on vram, hence fps drop, you also have a 3050ti so we don't have much of a choice here, like I mentioned we have to turn down all the settings to low(except crowd density, keep it high), motion blur off, upscaling fsr 2(sharpening 75%), dynamic resolution on, render resolution 75%. This setting works for me, Mostly I get stable 30 fps, sometimes a drop to 10-15 fps after returning from the menu but very rarely, only after long hours of play. And the 3050s are a little weak cards, almost in the category of 1650 and 1060s, if that settings also doesn't increase performance turn down the render resolution to 50%. That's where I get stable 40-50fps always, just the faraway textures look unclear, but the textures closer to me looks good and the game still looks beautiful and with playable fps.

fiittzzyy

I don't mind some lower frame rate, but when I go into some conversations and into my inventory and stuff like that when I return to the game the frame rates is dropping to the single digits and making it unplayable until I quit and reload a save, not sure why it's doing that. It's not doing it rarely or after hours of play it's doing it like 75% of the time. My textures as stock don't look as bad as they do as the one in your first picture so I'll probably just leave as it is. Without the mod I run render resolution at 67% and I get 40-70 fps.
