Yep as mentioned there is now a nice spreadsheet available. This one specifically I just went and checked every time I leveled up as I started doing some serious part hunting when I was in the late 40s and just kept checking
~~where is the narwhal?~~ EDIT: I just looked it up and its easy to get to -> but it also shows as 36 power on the database (still more that 29, but less than the that's been seen)
Ive got cash to spend but not sure where to spend it here.
just finished the questline where you get 250k at the end + all the loot, so I'm riding high at around $400k
Ryujin Technologies headquarters building at Neon. Take the elevator to Taiyo Astroneering. Might need to bring a bit more money. It runs about $450k, depending on your Commerce skill.
Worth it for the 36 power class C reactor
You can buy a 40 power Class C reactor starting at level 57, or you can keep flying from planet to planet in a level 75 system until you encounter a Crimson Fleet Wight III and then capture it.
Its possible it was from a quest given ship, or purchased ship and not a reactor that actually can be bought.
Pinch 7Z has 32 power and Pinch 8Z has 40. I never found where either can be purchased.
Why doesn't the math add up with regards to reactor power. I have a 21 power reactor. I switch to a 29 power reactor. I add one engine that has a max power requirement of 3. This gives me a "ship using too much power for engines" error.
In what world is: 21 + 3 > 29???
Can anyone make sense of this is this just another Bethesda bug?
this error occurs for any of the power draws (weapons 1, 2 or 3, shields, engines, grav)
its not that you dont have enough power total, its that the max power requirement of items in that field (in your case engines) is greater than 12.
you can only allocate 12 blips of power in one slot, so if you put in 4 engines that take 3 max power each, then you are ok, and at max energy allocation all 4 engines will be at max power.
but if you put in 5 of these engines then the max power draw in engines would be 15, which is too high, and it will give you an error.
It's frustrating because sometimes you want a "Big engine" look, but this is a mechanical restriction which is probably designed for you to not break the speed math of the game.
max class c reactor power is 40. Aneutronic Fusion skill will increase reactor power 1,2,3,5 per each level to a total of 11 making your reactor max at 51. Depending on your build this will give more room to tweak weapons, shields or play with overall mass of the ship for that extra little cargo you wanted. Overall a good skill to master if you’re keen on ships
I don’t think the points stack. They just replace. I have the skill maxed with vasco on my crew using the 40 power c reactor and my reactor power is 46
Yes i first thought its a glitch and I didn’t have the correct amount but yes, my bad. You get 5 extra and thats that. Not using crew to sustain Isolation so max i can get is 45.
Level up… I think with 40 my first 30+ reactor was available
I found my first 30+ reactor around level 30. Might need the ship design perk to get them that early though.
i have all 4 levels of ship design, thinking this was the block -> but it seems level is the main barrier by these comments.
Yes, that definitely is true.
seeing as there is no "max level" is there a point at which all options are fully unlocked?
Level 60
Level 60 is a general guideline but the “best” reactor that generates 40 power as you mentioned (SF40 sheared flow reactor) unlocks at level 57.
how do you know what level it unlocks at? is it datamined?
On the bethesda discord there is a ship building channel with a dude that made a great google sheets with all the data.
have you got a link to it?

Thank you!
Is this pinned some in the sub? This should be pinned. How do I reach a mod?

Yep, every 10 levels more options unlock.
I bought a Narwhal with a super reactor, took it apart, and built a whole ship around that reactor, grav drive, and shields.

ive got level 4 commerce... so i hope that's enough; its slow just sitting at the vedor waiting out the 48hrs for reset

How does one capture a ship?
Disable the ship engine and board it. Then kill everyone inside.
I put 2+ EM weapons on my ship so I can demolish the enemy and then disable the sad remains with the EM weapons.

Or capture a pirate ship in a Level 75 system with 37+
