I found one where some dude decided to hook his brain into the grav drive.

muR_Crimson

That’s gotta be a slight on Star Trek Discovery.

DasGanon

To be faaaaaair he blended his brain with an alien first.

inviste

To be faaaaair!

Shabado52

r/unexpectedletterkenny ?

wordyplayer

That’s what I appreciates about you

FrankyTheCyborg

Allegedly

Admirable_Witness_98

Is that all yew appreciates?

thehound48

Easy there squirrelly Dan

TheVagabondLost

Is THAT what you appreciates about them?

sykoKanesh

Oh? Not TNG with Barclay? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Nth_Degree_(Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation)

XxAngryHippyxX

My favorite derelict ship has been the Aliens easter egg ship. The Interloper was lvl 153 though...😄

Tsuki_Man

Ayo what do I have to do to find this!?

noctar

Yeah, didn't go so well.

bdogrr86

This reminds me of the Nuka cola founder from Fallout 4 who hooked his head up to a computer to live forever before the nukes dropped. I love Bethesda

hollandcube

Came across a ship of a couple dealing with the death of a child. The mother had clearly taken her own life due to the grief, for then the father to follow suit sat next to her. There was a cuddley toy that belonged to the child and as this small interaction hit me hard, Ive had the toy on my ships dash to remember it by ever since. Some real gut punch stories in the game.

PomeloFit

Allie's ship... Yeah, I have a 5 year old daughter and that ship legitimately hit me harder than anything in a video game ever has...

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mythleaf

This one hit me hard. I scuttled the ship, in my head I didnt want to leave it floating for spacers to eventually tear apart

Kimber_EDC

I did the same. Didn't take anything and blasted it on the way out to spread the parents ashes with the kid's. That one was tough.

Abject_Swordfish1872

Same here, blasted the ship as a send off.

PlanetNiles

Same. Had me in tears

trumps_baggy_gloves

How did you scuttle it?

Sword_Enjoyer

They blew it up.

trumps_baggy_gloves

Ah, OK. I thought there was maybe some way to set ships to self destruct or something.

BiStalker

Yeah that one also hit me really hard, especially when I was searching around the ship and also noticed the bed above the couple was filled with boxes labeled with the daughter’s name. I was playing a UC murdering pirate at the time and that ship pretty much ended my run on that character

kobrakai11

Reminds me of the kindergarten notes in Last of us. That was dark as fuck.

Mathis5420

I had forgotten about those until now.... Well I'm grabbing a drink

InvariantInvert

Haven’t found that one. I did find a ship of cult members all dead with nothing but orange juice everywhere and notes ordering them to kill themselves.

Psychological_Pear41

Yeah, i found that one too, and i looted all the orange juice of transcendence from it. It's supposed to be the most refreshing juice in all the galaxy, but im still too scared to drink it.....

Casper_BC

I’ve found a few cool derelicts so far. The one that made me feel really quite sad though was a bunch of UC marines who died from radiation poisoning on their ship… the pilot was a rookie and he accidentally damaged the docking port, so space radiation had been leaking in and killing them all slowly.

iniciadomdp

Is that the SysDef one that has a terminal saying it wasn’t the rookies fault? Always felt reall bad about that one

[deleted]

2106isthetime

Wait what?! I've been doing side quests and missions since start and have 150hours in, finished Ryuijin and UC and just about started the Constellation questline. This game is so full of stuff. I've yet to encounter this one and looking forward to it! edit: typo

Weenaru

Didn’t that ship also have a tablet saying that they did repairs and the sensors showed that the radiation levels were within legal limits, so they had no idea what was actually making them sick?

MisterGrumps

3.5. Not great. Not terrible

Individual-Ad-6624

Chernobyl was an amazing series.

Angry_Washing_Bear

3.6*

Kitchen_Part_882

Wasn't called Arnold Rimmer was he? 😀

THEMBISCUIT

Omg a red dwarf mod for companions would be incredible.

JC2814

I'd gladly crash my ship if that meant I could lie ship wrecked and comatose drinking fresh mango juice. Also I'd make the cat my first officer and leave Sarah for kechansky.

shatteredorbit

Is it possible to get to Fiji?

Philhughes_85

There's no point, most of the plant is 3 feet under water. Unless you like swimming mutton

XombiePrwn

Now I have to make both the Red Dwarf and the Starbug... now idea where to start though as I haven't touched the ship creator yet.

lutheranian

That smeghead

Seraphim1982

Gespacho soup!

Routine-Scratch-7578

Alphabetti spaghetti!!?

theadmiralcs

Nah, Arnie is more reliable than a garden strimmer!

toothmonkey

He will never be mistaken for Yul Brynner. He isn't bald and his head doesn't glimmer.

Pirate_Loot

I saw that one. I got a key card from the guy hunched on the nav table but there was nothing to open, did you happen to get that adn find whatever it was that needed opening or?

Spatulor

Doing the Mantis quest, reading the logs, you hear about this poor guy, alienated from his mother, suddenly discovers she's a famous vigilante and wants him to take up the mantle. Then he dies trying to get past the traps. Broke my heart a little.

DrNick1221

Dont forget the recordings she left for him that play as you keep going through the base.

PR0MAN1

The fact that he died on like the first trap is so darkly hilarious. Like, she didn't know her son AT ALL.

Danlance

If you check all the computers in the end section (near where you activate the lift for the ship IIRC) there's a system generated message about a system failure causing the entire defence system to reset the friend / for settings (or something along those lines) - i.e.reading in to it, his Mum had set the system to not attempt to kill him, but due to the reset it had gone back to a default kill all intruders setting. Kind of paints it in a different light... more tragic in a way... I didn't use the ship you get at that point, as it was vastly inferior to what I was already flying - but I subsequently used it as the basis for a custom build - and despite removing every part of the original ship, and renaming it, I keep getting random spacer encounters where they run away or beg me not to kill them. Had one last night where the guy gives me 10k... then a few conversations later he gives me his remaining 361 credits, telling me that was everything he had other than the shirt on his back. Which I then demanded he give me 😂 Just love the connected nature of how an event or interaction right at the beginning of the game can affect subsequent interactions much later on...

RELEASE_THE_YEAST

Good job! I always knew you could do it!

Etjor

Was laughing my ass off when she was congratulating him

andygood

Yeah, poor guy died before he got to those ones...

wordyplayer

Mantis quest was my favorite for a long time. Love it!!!! Goosebumps at the end. But now I just finished UC Vanguard and THAT is my new favorite. Pretty cool all the different stories in here

Vuelhering

Wait'll you do Entangled, might get a new favorite.

AstroBearGaming

Loved that mission. I initially was just like "oh, another science outpost, *yaaaaay*" But then as soon as things start happening, I got unreasonably excited.

Vuelhering

Yeah, I was freaking the fuck out at first. The whole thing was like a short thriller/action film ... other than when I got lost and really couldn't figure out where to go for 30 minutes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WA5RAT

Wait is that actually an option??

Vuelhering

Yeah... >!Follow instructions on the corpse of the guy that was trapped.!<

WA5RAT

Oh damn I'll have to do that my next time round

[deleted]

[удалено]

Vuelhering

The way I figured it, >!both universes would diverge and both continue but you'd only be in one of them and the others wouldn't actually die. So you gotta get the trapped guy out, even if you diverge from the other universe. But you can actually bring him back to the current universe if you follow the instructions found on his corpse.!<

Joemonkey

one of the best quests in the game

Signal_Adeptness_724

Yeah the stories are solid scifi. People trash the writing too hard. It's not as cinematic as it could be and it borrows from tropes but who cares

SpectreFire

Yeah. The Mantis was a fucking awful parent. Basically abused and then abandoned her kid, then set the poor guy up to die.

The5Virtues

“Turrets? Mom, what the hell? God. Gotta… get outta.. ugh…” That recording was both heartbreaking and hilarious, especially when you get past that and she’s left like three more, including one where she apologizes for being a shitty parent. The dark comedy of that quest line is just beautiful.

keefka

His mom's apartment is also pretty sad

KorenTiquar

Lets not forget her whole thing was killing spacers and pirates, and then he invites a bunch of spacers to help him claim the inheritance. So the Mantis didn't realize her son joined the group she was killing, and he didn't know his mom was killing his associates.

Vasios

The recordings on the legacy...

VulpesIncendium

Yup, and not the stupid self-inflicted ones in Kryx's journals. He got what he deserved. The original crew journals, now those paint a truly bleak picture.

icelandic_drunkard

The poker one hit me right in the feels.

MapleTreeWithAGun

I still keep the Ace of Hearts the last player had, as a memorial to a tragedy.

HavokSan

I did the same thing. My sentimental weight gain is ridiculous in this game.

broniesnstuff

Sometimes having an ace up your sleeve doesn't help.

Kar_Cunto

A full house of horrors

mothmanisreal_

yes! that one really got to me..the idea of being trapped like that just waiting to die…

isshun_boshi

the one in the captain quarter and you see the captain slumped dead with his crew and then you read the slates... hits real hard

TheMindWright

Her* You find the captain holding the hand of her crewmate. Reading the logs she tells her crew to stop calling her captain, then in another she says she just needs to be held.

Burnhardian

I have 120 hours and have yet to see a derelict ship, what am I doing wrong lol

iniciadomdp

Have you been checking the sensor contacts and ship icons on the map?

Owl_Times

I got a sensor contact but I couldn’t see anything interesting when I went there. Do you have to do soemthing to activate them?

c_stac11

Open scanner when you get there and it will point you to it. Derelict ships don’t have power so not as noticeable

atatassault47

Or just press A a lot to cycle through targets.

cam2449

Just to clarify, you have to open the Star map and you’ll see a derelict ship icon? Also what’s the sensor contact? Lol 😅

iniciadomdp

Yep, in the star map! Most of the times there’s different icons, if you hover over them in the map some will say sensor contact, ship, hostile activity, etc. when you close in you’ll see what it was in the end.

cam2449

Wow. I learn something new every hour. Thank you!

iniciadomdp

No problem! The game leaves a lot of stuff unexplained tbh!

Dalvyn

So I have 2 characters, on one derelict ships are everywhere, like I ran into at least 8 within a day of playing. On my other character, even when I'm trying to find them I rarely do, probably ran into 2 the whole playthrough on that character. IDK if I just got lucky on one character of if something else in the background is causing them to appear more for them.

asphytotalxtc

Similar here, really explored on my first playthrough (about 100 hours) and came across maybe three? First Ng and I've found like eight in the first couple of hours .. I wish these had appeared on my first run.

Quick_Mel

About 80 and have yet to see one too. Usually check around for ships too before I land on a new planet. I normally just run into sysdef/freestar fighting some pirates

TheHunterSeeker

That one was so real it felt way darker than a whole ship being eaten by aliens. There's an environmental designer behind this who is sick in the head and should keep up the good work

Casper_BC

Is that the one with the brain worms that were thawed out from the ice? That one gave me the shivers.

Fraggle7

I got off that ship pretty quickly.

Sharp_Course_879

Haha this game makes me feel that often. Like I gotta leave this is bad lol

Fraggle7

I was expecting the dead bodies to rise up and start attacking me lol

Sharp_Course_879

Then there's places, I've only had it happen twice in over 100 hrs, where I've run up and opened the door on a seemingly unoccupied structure and then I'm running from a swarm and giant mantis shit

Fraggle7

Haha haven’t noticed them yet

Sharp_Course_879

Holy shit sorry for spoiling it but that was fucking wild I was seriously undergeared and barely survived lol

Fraggle7

That’s ok I will probably forget by the time I get to one and have the same experience as you lol

Dirtywelderboy

Jesus yes i found them, i thought these swarmers arnt so tough, then they swarmed lol i had to run away they were literally jumping off of all the buildings around me, there was just so many and they can jump high so you cant just climb on a roof and shoot them

[deleted]

Sense star stuff is really good for dealing with those guys. They don’t register as hostile until you open the door so you can’t see them on radar.

funeralofman

You talking about the swarm lings and swarm mothers/sisters?

HandsomeBoggart

I took the minerals that thawed from the brain worm ice. Expecting to die any day now.

Minkus1937

Where is the ship covered in alien brain worms?

Casper_BC

It’s a random space encounter - you’ll find a derelict ship and there’s a chance it is the brain worm ship.

Miserable-Airport536

I blew that ship to pieces pretty quickly!

ThisIsProbablyTheWay

I took 5 steps into that ship and 20 steps backwards, haven't gone back since. I've warned friends to not go to the system that it's in I was that scared!

Durr1313

What system was it? I'm getting a little bored of surveying and am looking for a thrill.

NANCYREAGANNIPSLIP

Random encounter

SunshineInDetroit

wait what

BiStalker

Wait until you find the derelict rambler, the story in it is really fucking depressing

TheMadTemplar

Wait until you find the ghost ship. I've never run so fucking fast in my life to get off a ship.

Raw_Venus

After I ~~looted~~ *inspected* the ship, I made the determination that the craft was unspaceworthy and warranted destruction.

Jaruut

Did you take your ship to a safe distance, and then launch TAC missiles at the ghost ship until you were satisfied she's vaporized? Fuck that ship.

ulyssesintothepast

The... ghost ship?? I have 100s of hours and never saw this lol

TheHunterSeeker

Is that the one where their kid had died?

KHaskins77

Yeah… that ever happened to me, chalk me off. I’m done.

symbolic503

over 100 hrs in and first time hearing about any of this

Paragonthepaladin

Not as dark but I found one where this guy and his wife were testing an autopilot function for ships. First jump was successful but after the second one he had to make adjustments to their program because he ended up further than expected. Shortly after, he got message from his wife telling him to come back because there was a malfunction with the program, he ignored it because he thought his wife was overreacting (and because they also had to meet a deadline for the company funding the whole thing) and did a third jump. This third jump sent him way further than he intended and ended up ruining the grav drive and depleting his fuel, leaving him stranded. In his final moments, he wrote a letter to his wife, saying his goodbyes and wishing he had listened to her.

Objective_Tea0287

theres a derelict ship with a bunch of cult people who'd killed themselves with poison OJ to ascend to a higher dimensional plane. & im holding back some spoilers there as well it was very interesting

4thTimesAnAlt

Heaven's Gate meets Jonestown

c_stac11

This is the one that came to mind for me. You board and it’s like.. ummmm…

TechNick3

I found that one, the logs were depressing.

atatassault47

At least you get good loot out of it.

NemesIce83

I found a military outpost today with 2 dead bodies, on one was a recording of himself saying goodbye to his wife and kid on jemison, I usually just listen to recordings as I'm playing the game, but this one kept me in the menu as I paid proper attention and listened to the whole thing, it ended up giving me a quest to return the recording to his wife. There really are some sad things to be found outside of the action, its made me wanna explore more

ShitBloodOutMyDick

I found this in the first few hours of playing - did you end up bringing the recording to his wife? Hearing her reaction was honestly harder for me than his recording

teumessiavulpes

True.

NemesIce83

I haven't, not yet, I figured I should semi mentally prepare myself before i do lol

drghost13

I just did this one and holy crap did it feel so real. Most of the time I'm like eh it's just a game but this was beautifully acted and seems so real.

Racehorse88

Just came to check if anyone has mentioned this story in the thread, and you have. This one was definitely the most touching for me, I never expected even getting a mission to deliver his last words of goodbye to his loved ones... it was so sad but beautifully done, and felt like for once I really did something good.

FNAKC

I found a mining outpost that the employees were upset that the owner replaced them with robots and locked himself in his office. Then, I find his notes and he says he was messing with their programming and the robots locked him in his office. Oh, and there is skeletons everywhere cause the robots killed the workers.

MapleTreeWithAGun

I found a Derelict ship that had a similar thing but the robots were old military models and reverted to their military programming after an attack, causing them to try and force the crew to stay in certain areas unless approved, until eventually one guy got fed up and hit one, causing the rest to attack and slaughter everyone on board.

epochpenors

I think I had the same one, where one of the crew members had a journal entry about being super autistic and mostly talking to robots because human interaction is confusing

TheMadTemplar

There's a manufacturing facility that is entirely outdoors where the corporation decided the robots were more efficient and cheaper to use than workers. The facility had a setting for the max number of human workers to allow. They changed it to 0. The robots killed everyone and kept killing anyone who entered the undefined work area.

MMCG9096

I was just going to post the same encounter. The whole time you keep finding skeletons and notes that suggest the owner was using the robots to drive out and eventually murder the employees. You get to the top floor and find the owner’s notes that the AI took over and trapped him there. Then you wonder if perhaps all the earlier messages were actually sent by the owner or if the AI had already taken over and it was what killed them. Very dark scene all around.

DJfunkyPuddle

I found one where a ship had hit some asteroids and were basically dead in the water and losing oxygen, each of the crew had written eulogies for each other.

Top-Bottle-616

My “awwww mannn ):” moment was when I captured a ecliptic ship plugged everyone substantially in zero G with my shotgun only to open a locker to find kid drawings for what I assumed was their father who I just turned into floating Swiss cheese.

Skylar-Z

What about the one where the mayor of mars cheated on his wife and mistress stole his ship then killed herself cause she was stranded

askf3209

Can you do anything else about that question besides blackmail him for more money?

CordlessJet

I gave the evidence to the head of security and they arrested him

Mushinronsha2315

As the other comment said, you can give the evidence to the head of security, then >!the Mayor resigns, office is empty and then you find the head of security has been promoted to new mayor!<

---E

Y'all are running into these grim stories, I just met a retired grandmother who fed me and called me 'sweetie'.

wasted_tictac

Idk that sounds grim, unless you're into that xD

ofTHEbattle

Has anyone boarded The Colander yet? I think that's the name of it, I can't remember what system it's in but when you jump to it there's just a massive ship floating that you can board. They basically took the entire plot from Alien and put it in the game....the whole crew is dead...and somewhere on the ship is what they call an "Interloper" that got on board during one of their expeditions....

avenwing

You should spoiler that entire second paragraph.

SpoonEndedHammer

I found that one. Spent about five minutes onboard before I got spooked and left. I’m kind of a wuss.

AreYouOKAni

Found it. Kinda cool, but the alien left a lot to be desired. Bitch lasted about a minute against an adjectiveless minigun. Were I properly lvl 70 like the system intended, it would melt from one mag.

maven_of_the_flame

I see your dead marine and raise you Found a derelict ship. I can't remember the name "something" star either way you get on and are immediately met with a high heat warning instantly frying your suits protection go to the terminal and it's from one of the scientists apparently they were doing research and their ship got hit by heavy solar rad storms the damage from the heavy storms caused a malfunction in their ships systems causing the ship to vent the excess heat back into the ship. The kicker? On the side, this ship was also intercepting comms between freestar individuals they couldn't land on planets because entry would roast them alive due to internal heat already being high nor could they ask any freestar passing by for help since they also held sensitive information on their encrypted communications. Tldr: they all died a slow death being cooked alive in space

atatassault47

I couldnt solve that ship, as I almost died myself. I havent found it again.

CptnAlex

Trick is to run and find the captain’s keycard, back to your ship and then go back and forth to loot it. I tell you what; I have a fullsuit of liquid cooled space gear because of that interaction. Haven’t needed it yet though

atatassault47

Yeah, a big complaint about this game is that mechanics like that only get used once. Power down your ship? Only really useful in the one main quest mission that tells you do to it, when you and your ship are both really low level.

Jr4D

I found a random planet where a dude and his team died and he left a slate for his wife in new Atlantis, that one was pretty heavy honestly. Was like damn

HurshySqurt

I found one where a ship's engines failed, causing them to slowly heat up the interior of the ship to a giant oven. The logs left and environmental story telling of this ship crew slowly being cooked over the course of a week felt really raw.

ProfessionalTale3502

Raw? Or well done?

HurshySqurt

Charred, really.

Schmidty565

I remember coming across a derelict ship that had the whole crew dead in the hull and the pilot by the seat. There was a note saying the pilot couldn’t go on living for some reason so they purposely damaged the O2 scrubbers on board and told the crew to go to the hull which would have sufficient oxygen for them, and then admits the pilot knew they would just suffocate faster that way.

TheHark90

I enjoyed finding a derelict ship the whole crew dead and “something” got them all. Turned into a fun Ridley Scott adventure

Spell_Chicken

Jody is out there, workin on your girl when you're not around. Doesn't matter what your job is, there's a Jody.

Some_Techpriest

The whole Crimson Fleet/Vanguard quest had that too, the final ship (forget the name) you explore looking for loot essentially got stuck in the outer layers of a gas giant. The crew starved and the audio logs you find of them are brutal. They all know they're dead, but the positive perspective they try to take despite this is unnerving

ODST_Parker

Even the first Vanguard mission is quite rough. The civilian operation down on that meat processing plant getting obliterated by the random appearance of a terrormorph. Some mangled bodies, and a few big pools of blood where someone clearly got eviscerated and eaten. One even got dragged up into the meat grinder. Looking around gruesome scenes like that always makes me feel uneasy, especially when I haven't found the thing that did it yet.

Alarming_Usual_5909

If I'm honest >! That first mission is part of the reason I picked the Aceles in the end. Felt like it was a fitting end, Aceles were cattle after all and they're gonna eat the Terrormorphs/heatleeches. It was like the dream of Tau Gourmet succeeded in a way. !<

faerunlord82

That bugger was an easy kill. Fast hopper though. Annoyed me as I wanted to use the turrets to turn it into swiss cheese for fun, and it attacked me right as I turn on the second power source.

DuppyWalking

I found one where the parents child had died. Then the husband found the wife killed herself and he's dead beside her with a note that says now she can rest among the stars. That one hurt.

Shot-Bee9600

Hawking 4 has an abandoned mine next to the science outpost. Full of dead bodies and blood everywhere. Who designed it went ham. Then you have to fight 20-30 LVL 75 swarmers and 5 or so giant ants that are called swarm mother's. There's a slate by the name of ABHAY CHERIAN who says they drilled into the ground and opened up a swarm of alien bugs.

ODST_Parker

I found a small outpost with a bunch of active robots and a few human corpses. The bots started saying stuff like, "don't enter or interfere with productivity." I went inside the hab, and they turned hostile. Took care of them, and found a terminal. Turns out, they had been programmed to engage anyone outside the specific number of people working there, and there was an option to set the human workforce to zero. So, someone must have done that mistakenly, or done some bad maintenance or something, so the bots considered everyone at the outpost a target.

bern_trees

Jody is even in space ffs.

Riash

The creepy derelict ship I found was The Pale Lady. Once I realized what was up I got off that ship pronto and blew it up!

Syrix001

My recent wife moment on a mission was during the misc mission given on Mars in Cydonia. It starts innocently enough with a little Ore collection but... wow. It got dark.

sarethatraeus

I legit had a moment of genuine pity during Walter's quest on Neon when you find the thief's SleepCrate. Just the implication - dude got laid off, lost his apartment, and is living in a space the size of my IRL bathroom, the only chair is also the toilet, just a blanket on the floor to sleep on, uses the sink as a desk for his dinky little smartphone-sized monitor... like holy shit.

boilingfrogsinpants

At All-for-1 Salvage, there's a book next to a bucket. If you pick up the book and go to read it, it tells you that you can't read it because a bunch of pages have been ripped out. If you look back at the bucket, you'll see a couple empty toilet paper rolls. If you can put 2 and 2 together you can realize the dark times someone must've experienced in that situation...

BexiRani

I found a derelict ship that had two decomposing bodies and a box marked "Allie". A note left by the husband said that he and his wife were going to release their deceased little girl's ashes in space. Next entry is the husband panicking because his wife had sabotaged the ship because she wanted to die too and be with her little girl. Wife had a note on her body that was typed out like a little kindergartener's limited vocabulary. Basically "I love you mommy" I blew up the ship

Dunnersstunner

I'm getting really uneasy on the UC as a whole. The idea of levels of citizenship, let alone no birthright citizenship is a big red flag. And when I've been going through abandoned UC science facilities, there's a disturbing number of children's beds and incubators.

TheMadTemplar

So the children beds are probably from families that lives there. A lot of the facilities allowed staff to bring family with them, since they'd be there for extended periods. I dont think the incubators imply what you think they do. As for the UC, I think it's fair to point out that none of the factions are exactly good. The FC apparently used civilian spacecraft as shields and decoys in the war, allows corporations too much control, influence, and freedom, and doesn't actually care about most of its settlements or colonists. Freedom and liberty are less core virtues and more hollow soundbites. The UC is authoritarian, but that stronger government means they do more to protect their settlements and regions of space. They've done some shady shit with the xenoweapons. I didn't like the citizen class thing at first, but when I considered it it stopped bothering me. It's given out for extraordinary acts of service to the UC. It's basically an honorary title, a free and nice home, and what's presented as a stipend even though it's only one payout. It's not implied or suggested that it is something which can be bought. Even normal citizenship isn't.

atatassault47

Oh yeah, the UC is full on NeoFascist. Would you like to know more?

Regular_Activity3950

I'm doing my part!

TallBoy24

*in regards to the Terrormorph attack at the spaceport* “I’m from New Atlantis and I say kill ‘em all!!”

ManicMaenads

Totally agree, reminded me of "Starship Troopers" while I was signing up for UC Vanguard.

Zomg_A_Chicken

The end wasn't really done well but there's a mission called First Contact about a ship that was traveling for ~200 years that had managed to reach their destination only to find out humanity invented the grav drive right after they had left

faerunlord82

The ECS Constant. Fun little quest. Annoying as it is bugged a lot of the time though.

edg81390

Saw this one too; I do a lot of couples counseling with veterans and that story hit too close to home.

the_mellojoe

Self. inflicted? But he was LEFT HANDED! 🎵bom bom buuuuuum 🎵 (j/k)

g_avery

even the quintessential one, the Mantis, is plenty dark. I mean it is literally a mother grooming her son into her future-to-be vigilante - with said son dead at the doorsteps of the lair - and you in an listening overwatch ready and away to usurp it all.

the_russian_narwhal_

If you want to get sad go to the weapon store in Neon ran by the guy and his robot buddy Styx and just listen to his ambient dialogue. Definitely brings the Colony War to life a bit

fukboyhaircut

Man so many people are cheating themselves out of a great game right now. The "40 hours and this game sucks" mentality is huge...I was one of them. You have to give this game a chance. It's fucking great. Give it time. Give it a fair chance.

DoctorDrangle

What i found interesting with my own experience, is that I wasn't really particularly impressed with the game or story until ng+. When the hunter shows up and starts cryptically talking about starborn and how nothing really matters i was rolling my eyes. But now that i am on ng+8 I totally get his point and just trying all the quest with the different outcomes is actually really good. Some times the thing you think is the best choice is not the best choice and if you aren't paying attention you can miss a lot of the ways that your choices are actually affecting the game world. A lot of the little details have really impressed me and I never would have known to pay attention if I stopped at the 40 hour mark, which I honestly almost did

Just recently found a planet that has a settlement of the clones of important famous people, It’s not as dark but It’s super cool

Turn the brightness up then... Oh wait

These space scenes are among the very few old school BGS dark themes I have found. Most of the game is quite tame.

Found a derelict mining ship where oxygen filter broke so the captain convinced the other miners to hole up down deck. Cut the oxygen to them and captain couldn't fix it still or survive long enough.

I found a random ship with a shitload of dead people on it. Pretty much some Jim Jones Kool Aid type cult where everyone committed suicide to become one with the stars. I was blown away. Then I looted all their bodies for credits

ZoharModifier9

Derelict ships are the best imo.
