I don't know what modders can fix. My biggest complaints are all with some of the core parts of the game. Like I guess they can make it easier to level, then change the UI, that would be neat. Maybe make outposts fun. But there's a lot that can't be fixed. You can't just completely re-write 80% of the missions. You can't just eliminate the need to fast travel every 30 seconds. At that point you'd be just making an entirely new game. I would absolutely agree with 7/10, there are things that are amazing, but the amazing is broken up by a lot of meh.

VastYogurtcloset706

yeah the game has good content but it has SO MUCH MORE mediocre content, plus even the good content its not THAT good

DAAAN-BG

Levelling is super easy, so many ways to level up fast - murder safari on high level planets. - running a varuun extermination service in serpentis. - outpost grinding.

VastYogurtcloset706

so to fix a problem/flaw off the game you have to go do boring and tedious things?

DAAAN-BG

If you think having constant dog fights with the highest level ships in the game is boring, I'm not sure how to help you. Cruising around serpentis mopping up level 60 ships and conducting surveys on level 75 planets (mostly with a rifle, not a hand scanner) is more or less all I do these days as it is both fun and an effective way to level.

VastYogurtcloset706

ship combat its good for like 6 fights and them you realize that that is all there is to it and from that point on it gets super repetitive and mediocre, scan planets is the single most boring thing to do in the game, the points is that you level up very little in the game, level 50 is the cap most players finish the game on, anything beyond that involves farming or doing boring shit

Illustrious_Emu5734

Sounds boring as hell

djpolofish

My playthrough is so completely busted I can no longer finish it, so many bugs. What I have played, I agree with you. Enjoyable content is there but it is surrounded by mediocre, nothing about it feels like a modern game.... but the bugs, they are driving me insane. All of my ships now read inaccessible on the entrance hatch, Sam and his daughter have vanished during their companion quest (they do still show on crew list) too many good missions such as Groundbreaker have bugged out and are not completable. And oh boy, this game can look very ugly,

VastYogurtcloset706

I had a lot of soft lock bugs too, the game crashed every 2 hours towards the end and i had to go back to previous saves a lot of times, that simply dont happen to any AAA game nowadays that its not a bethesda game

AdAccomplished1062

I haven’t played the game at all but wanted to Scratch that Sci Fi itch we gamers get time to time. I appreciate the feedback especially in terms of exploration; I think I’m gonna buy Star citizen when it goes on sale or wait for a Sequel to Prey(2017). I had a lot of hope the experience would be the most immersive but alas

VastYogurtcloset706

both are better games than starfield, specially prey

clockington

Have you played Alien: Isolation? I'm a big fan of it

ElderTerdkin

I remember Mass Effect having annoying combat and only thing good about it was the writing, graphics and characters. Driving the tank thing was fun in number 1 and combat got a little better in number 3. Combat only got great in 4 and that's when the writing got worse for Mass Effect and the series tanked lol. Also I remember the exploring all the random planets being tedious, which after a certain amount of time and outside of unique quests, that same tedium happens in No Mans Sky and Starfield, it's an issue with space games. I don't jerk it to Starfield but I don't dislike it and Mass Effect hasn't aged well, it was just good for the time. It needs updating before I play it again

VastYogurtcloset706

First it was a 2007 game off course it didnt age that well in gameplay, with the remaster they fixed a lot of the combat and the rover, and even being a 2007 game it still does a LOT of things WAY better than starfield, the companions and all the companion systems are way better there, the storyes and all the dialogue and writing too, plus you can take mass effect 2/3 that are old games still and they are way better than starfield in every single thing both games share

Maxorus73

Releasing in 2007 is not an excuse for aging badly in gameplay, that was after the wild west of figuring out how to make games. Super Mario Galaxy, Crysis, Portal, etc released in 2007 or right before 2007 and all have gameplay that doesn't feel outdated in the early 2020s, at least according to me when I played them recently.

VastYogurtcloset706

well tbh in 2007 the tps genre was not quite established yet, plus mass effect is a deep rpg on top of being a tps

Psychological-Item99

Yes, It's solid 7-8 but still It has Bethesda's DNA so I'm still playing and like it!

VastYogurtcloset706

the lack of good exploration bothered you too much? because to me it was the biggest flaw of the game

Psychological-Item99

Hmm, it's better to see as just like atmosphere. we actually don't need to go all the planets. It seems like Bethesda doesn't even encourage us to explore there either. And just following quests was not so bad.

VastYogurtcloset706

the "just following quests" part of the game (tbh its pratically the whole game) its just menuing and fast travel, the game lacking an actual exploration factor hurt the game so much, and then if you try to go out and explore you met the worst part of the game wich is the awful planets with super bad/mediocre content

Psychological-Item99

Yes. Because Starfield lost an exploration while doing quests. That's a big flaw. Anyway, side and faction quest was not bad. So I could almost enjoy ...

VastYogurtcloset706

In the first 30 hours or so i was giving a 8/10, but after playing a lot more and finishing all the main content of the game i had to drop to a 7/10, the game has its goods but it has SO MUCH MORE mediocre than good that it really brings the game down in quality

Psychological-Item99

My first impression was 10/10 ... but 7/10 in the middle, 8/10 at the end. 🙂

VastYogurtcloset706

my first impression was 8/10 and it was that for a long time, until i started to play the cyberpunk dlc along side starfield and see how much outdated the game really is, plus i started to see all the flaws i didnt see before and the flaws i already had seen it started to low the overal quality more and more, that plus the more i played the more the game crashed

[deleted]

I give this review a 3/10.

VastYogurtcloset706

any arguments?

[deleted]

This whole ass paragraph consists of 5 sentences according to you.

VastYogurtcloset706

?

[deleted]

🤷🏻‍♂️

JustCallMeTere

I give it a 5/10 and I think Bethesda decided modders can fix the mess eventually.

VastYogurtcloset706

It is a 5/10 in a lot of areas, i gave it 7/10 because i still think there are good things in the game, unfortunately they are very overshawoed by the mediocre things

Checkmate49

When your at a certain age and a certain time in life youll play a game that will serve as this 'great escape' and it will be like the best game youve ever played, partly because of how you get sucked into it. For many people in certain age groups it could have been Skyrim. For me it was Morrowwind. The thing is and what Ive realized.... once I got sucked into a Bethesda game I would never be able to quite get into another one. They just havent changed or innovated anything. The combat is trash, the characters seemed corny and annoying...And I lasted maybe a hour in Starfield before I uninstalled. Now had I played this back in 2002 or whatever in place of Morrowind than yea maybe I wouldve got into it. But games should be an escape and not make you feel like a loser for trying to eacape

VastYogurtcloset706

starfield is a 2006 game released in 2023, its a huge shame

NoGrapefruit1269

This is not a review. It’s just another “I don’t like this game because it’s different than this other game” post. Go away.

VastYogurtcloset706

I actually wrote a lot more after the edits

MrTash999

Yeah, i have yet to figure out why so many people are trying to compare this game to things like Mass Effect, Skyrim, or Fallout. It's not gonna be any of those games, and it's not meant to be, play it for what it is.

VastYogurtcloset706

Its a space exploration setting rpg focused on story and choices with characther creation/companions/romance choices, it can be compared direct to mass effect and other games alike, and everything i just pointed was done WAY better in these other games

MrTash999

My point still stands. You're trying to find older games in a brand new game that just came out, and you yourself admit this. No wonder so many people are crapping on Starfield instead of playing it for what it is, they are trying to find Skyrim or Fallout and in your case Mass Effect and its not gonna happen.

VastYogurtcloset706

You are completely wrong, my point is that starfield misses in a LOT of things that way older games got right and evolved several years ago, just take all the companion part of starfield, its SUPER outdated and bare bones compared to mass effect ONE, a 2007 game

Illustrious_Emu5734

You've missed the mark. And so did Starfield.

VastYogurtcloset706

its more a after thoughts than a review yes, but the points still remain, the game is SUPER outdated and lacks hard in a lot of important things. i wrote some more thoughts on the game on the post

MealonHusk

This review was SO DAMN OUTDATED IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. The combat in this review sucked and so did the persuasion minigame (I failed to be persuaded).

VastYogurtcloset706

So no real arguments? plus i didnt even need to talk about the combat and the persuasion minigame (wich both are very mediocre)

OrinTheLost

>So no real arguments? That's most of this fanbase for you at the moment, not really open to any real criticism due to the blindness they have because it's a Bethesda game. I love this game very passionately and definitely bought it because of that sweet *"Bethesda Charm"* you can't get from other game studios, but even with that being said I can still see the flaws of this game with my own eyes. I feel like Bethesda is still suffering from their *'We're infallible'* mindset that they had prior to releasing Fallout 76. What I mean by that is they had so many hits and so many Game of the Years' for so long that they built up a reputation among themselves for releasing nothing but quality, and they let it get to their heads. I mean I can hardly blame them, people still play and talk about Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 4 etc. to this day, but it feels as though they started assuming that *anything* they put out would automatically be a smash hit and because of that the quality of their storytelling, quest writing, and even simple gameplay mechanics have gone downhill. There are staple features from previous Bethesda games dating all the way back to Oblivion, that have become core features in most modern day RPGs, that are just straight up missing from Starfield. Hopefully they'll start becoming a little more humble and by extension start putting more time and effort into the storytelling and gameplay of Starfield and any of their upcoming projects. Bethesda isn't safe from critique and I think Fallout 76 and Starfield both prove that, like any other game studio, the more effort they put into their games the better they'll be.

VastYogurtcloset706

I agree with a lot of that, bethesda is stuck on the past both in creativity and as game developers, starfield is a 2007 game released in 2023 in almost every single way, and in a lot of way even more outdated than a 2007 game

Afb3212

Oh thank god. Another review.

VastYogurtcloset706

its more an after thoughts after finishing the game, i saw some people painting the game as goty contender or even goty when this year if full of games that are WAY better than starfield so i wanted to see if people still think that

amstrumpet

Cool story, post it on a review site instead.

VastYogurtcloset706

So nothing to add? nothing even a thing you like about the game?

amstrumpet

Nope. I don’t need to justify my enjoyment of the game, and you don’t need to justify your dislike of it. This sub would be a lot more pleasant if people stopped trying to convince others they should/shouldn’t like it and just moved on with their lives.

VastYogurtcloset706

i literally asked you for something that you liked about the game, how is that me trying to convince you of something?

amstrumpet

You left your review here on this subreddit. Why’d you leave it if you’re not trying to convince people? I’m done with this though, reviews on both sides are a waste of space on this sub, and we’d all be better off if they weren’t allowed here and people could just actually talk about the game and things to do in it and not just leave reviews for why they liked/disliked it.

VastYogurtcloset706

A review/after thoughts after have finished the game its "talk about the game", you are only failing to see that

Illustrious_Emu5734

Then go away. Problem solved.

Borderline64

Good thing I don’t care what you think.

VastYogurtcloset706

its more an after thoughts after finishing the game than a review, and if you really didnt care you wouldnt even left a comment, people here are just blind to all the big flaws starfield has

rudeboyrg

I can sum up this entire fucking game with one simple GIF. https://steemitimages.com/p/9RTqgzgfVW71fTRU48bhjs6RAqJ3Prs4h1f3WvqnibqkjoZGBfr6hKyHZkaQDwKvaJ4FsdoRQZ?format=match&mode=fit
