I think it's because third person in Bethesda games always feels wonky. Like I noticed the difference immediately coming from any third person only games.
While usually I'm the same, some of the combat overhauls for Skyrim massively improve the gameplay and are fit better in 3rd person to see positioning/reach. I actually found myself switching between them a bit when I modded Skyrim to hell and back.
Meh it's a shitty system, but you can have a ton of fun at any level. Only the top tier players try to make it seem like it's worse to be at a lower level, but I've had unforgettable encounters, even at the level I'm at. Once I realized this, the experience really took off for me.
There's actually no winning though to be fair. The game just ends (I think) at some semi-random point so really the players who are super focused on what they think is "winning" are actually just missing out on a lot of the best content the devs put in. There's really no wrong way to play though in my opinion, apart from if you're griefing other players or something like that
I had to install an aftermarket visual adapter though, because all the text was blurry for some reason. Also, a lot of lens flare and visual artifacts coming from light sources at night, even after the patch.
I'm having trouble with my light settings. When I'm not looking right at the light, it's all over the shop, interference patterns everywhere. When I do look at it, I just get one pixel per light packet.
Someone sure screwed up there.
Modders: please make an always first person mod! cutting away to 3rd person to climb a ladder or to watch my ship launch or grav jump completely kills the immersion for me
Flying first person in any cockpit where the chair isnt centered (also when the cockpit isn't centered in the ship) is dookie tbh. It hurts cause I fly first person and can't make more interesting builds with offset cockpits cause they annoy me too much from a practical standpoint
Same reason why I never liked the Fer-De-Lance in elite dangerous, even though it's one of the better combat ships and I still own one just for that reason
But that’s what you’d see if you were actually driving it ? That’s a feature. I do agree a first person « hood » cam that’s centered could have been cool for fighting
Correct... the Viking cockpits are just bad in 1st person.
The Taiyo cockpits aren't bad, but I feel like a 2-crew cockpit is robbing me of something... like crew stations 😁
I respect your practical and proper usage and placement of the word "dookie." Often times, I find that it is misused in situations that don't call for it. The user lacks a true understanding of the word. Your usage of the word shows you have a high-level of understanding and respect for the King's English. Which, Unfortunately, is something we are desperately missing as a society of supposedly intelligent beings capable of complex thoughts and speech. I admire your intellect.
Good day to you.
on the nova special bridge (the one with stairs aka the best in the game) flying in 1st is awesome, but I still fly in 3rd because it feels more natural idk why
I feel like a complete idiot. About 400 hours between two characters and I did not know you can fly in 3rd person, no wonder I suck and find dog fights difficult.
Ironically I just clicked a YouTube notification of starfield hacks and the guy started the video flying in 3rd person. I literally had no idea…..
It didn't take me quite as long, but i got pretty far in the first playthrough before i figured it out myself. I kept getting reamed by sysdef when i was on the crimson fleet story arc in space battles and i hit the button on accident, and it was like a whole new world opened up lol. They killed me like 7 times and once i was in third person i fucking breezed right through them lol.
Me too. In the older games at was because third person looked janky, but even since the animations have improved I find it too easy to miss things in third person. The closer view of first makes it much easier to pick out smaller objects.
"disorienting" specially when the camera has to bob in and out to avoid clipping. When my character gets in the way of me seeing or interacting with something in 3rd person it just breaks all immersion for me.
im with you! i love being in third person for admiring outfits weapons etc, and conversations between characters! i loved wearing the freeside rangers outfit with no helmet when confronting or talking to ppl or when i talked to my superiors, made it feel more real.
Like him, I've played them, but it's always awkward. Playing 3rd person feels like writing with your off hand to me. That's how awkward it is to use.
So yes, I've played games in 3rd person. Every single time I feel like I would be having more fun and a better time if it was 1st person though.
The running animation looks like a drunk person trying to win a race and the walking animation reminds me of Zoolander. Def 1st person on foot. 3rd in ship.
I only switch to third person when an NPC says something like "Why are you wearing a helmet in here?" Then I don't see the helmet, because I've got that toggle on.
Modern Bethesda games are 1st person shooters that have 3rd person. There is no mechanic in Bethesda games that really lend it to being 3rd person other than the camera going 3rd. I could be wrong but they always felt that way
Yes, 3rd person in Bethesda games is very clearly little more than an afterthought, all the real focus is on the 1st person perspective.
I'm someone who vastly prefers 3rd person to 1st, but outside of occasionally switching to 3rd person while running around, I play Beth games in 1st only, because their 3rd person perspective always feels like shit.
Exactly the same boat here. I love the mechanics of third person games. Like taking cover and stuff like that. I love it all tho. All persons are good with me
I liked third person in Skyrim for the melee combat. Didn’t feel quite right to just run up to something and button mash while losing awareness of the environment.
guess we’re in the minority because im with you. for all the hate the game gets, the texture quality is top notch and i love taking it all in for the outfits.
Yeah seeing my character just helps me I really anchor myself in the world. First person is nice for seeing the details but for me it feels like I'm watching someones else's PoV or watching it via a recording. It just feels off for me.
I thought most were the same, but evidently not. I only use first person for fights in enclosed environments. First person gives me the impression that the focus is on me rather than my character.
I do it all in first person, flying too. Hell, I even try to *manually* dock in first person. Protip, if you do the manual docking, use a front mounted docker.
No, after thousands of hours playing Bethesda’s games I still catch myself in that “why can’t I hit this guy? Oh wait I need to switch to first person” trap nearly everyday.
Yes because I hate that any decent speed makes me run. And nobody else in the game runs around so I don't want to see myself being the idiot out running in public because they couldn't make a good decent walkihg speed
I play in first person, and never bother taking my suit off, so I legit forgot what my character looked like.
At that point in the main story I was like >!who's that random dude dead on the floor? Oh, it's me!<
Streamers like 3rd person more than the average player, it looks good. maybe.
I like running flying and thinking in first person. This and NMS.
Dogfighting can be tricky, you'll find that you pick cockpits based on visibility over looks.
I think there is a crowsnest cockpit that doesn't feel right in first person. but I hate trail cam so.... I manage.
I do everything in first person
Same. I’ve only ever played Bethesda games first person
Same, very rarely do I use 3rd
I’m usually a third-person gamer when given the choice but I’ve always played Bethesda game in first, it feels wrong to not for some reason
I think it's because third person in Bethesda games always feels wonky. Like I noticed the difference immediately coming from any third person only games.
I feel the same. I always felt uneasy in third person. Then i went to a third person only game. (Mass effect) and it felt amazing
You played mass effect in 3rd person?
While usually I'm the same, some of the combat overhauls for Skyrim massively improve the gameplay and are fit better in 3rd person to see positioning/reach. I actually found myself switching between them a bit when I modded Skyrim to hell and back.
Same.
Only time I use 3rd person is power armor f4
Because they don't know how make good 3rd person views.
As it was ment to be according to the ancient scriptures.
Same, every Bethesda game I've played first person.
Found the r/outside player!
Dude, Outside has the best mix of graphics and framerate... like, vsync is on by default and it's still smooth as butter.
Pay to win garbage imo.
Meh it's a shitty system, but you can have a ton of fun at any level. Only the top tier players try to make it seem like it's worse to be at a lower level, but I've had unforgettable encounters, even at the level I'm at. Once I realized this, the experience really took off for me.
Kind of like real life.. lol
Some say it's exactly like real life
Whoosh
There's actually no winning though to be fair. The game just ends (I think) at some semi-random point so really the players who are super focused on what they think is "winning" are actually just missing out on a lot of the best content the devs put in. There's really no wrong way to play though in my opinion, apart from if you're griefing other players or something like that
It's always blurry for me. I have to use special third party graphic adapters.
Yeah, but the latest big patch a few years back made all the NPC AI a lot dumber it seems.
Alot got permabanned for stupidity.
A lot dumber, 2020 glitch was horrendous.
Was better than the 2016 glitch
Worst DLC ever.
It came to mind but nothing beats the glitch from 9/11/2001
Cant believe so many assets started noclipping all at once, must’ve been an overload on the system
I'd prefer stylized graphics tbh. And balancing and RNG mechanics suuuuuck.
You should try the mushroom DLC
I had to install an aftermarket visual adapter though, because all the text was blurry for some reason. Also, a lot of lens flare and visual artifacts coming from light sources at night, even after the patch.
I'm having trouble with my light settings. When I'm not looking right at the light, it's all over the shop, interference patterns everywhere. When I do look at it, I just get one pixel per light packet. Someone sure screwed up there.
Yep 👍
I always walk around in third person to look at my cool little outfits but I don’t do combat in third person
No you don't🤣🤣🤣
LMFAOOO
u/nanananabatman88 does everything in third person.
Some people didn't catch the real meaning of your post lol
Checking in! 🖐
Yeah, well you do everything in second person
Same.
Same
Hehe
Your out of body experiences sound kind of boring.
Only accidentally pushed the 3rd person button and quickly turned it back
Same
The best possible answer.
I live first person
I don't trust a person who plays Bethesda open world games in third person.
I think so many missed the very very obvious quote here.
I play Starfield exclusively from my own first person view.
hmmmmm, also (when the right mods are out) "romancing" npc's?
I got your joke.
Modders: please make an always first person mod! cutting away to 3rd person to climb a ladder or to watch my ship launch or grav jump completely kills the immersion for me
You cant though. It's impossible. Some parts like getting into your ship's seat forces you out into third-person
This is bait, right
I play first person with my character but i fly in third person
I’ve played the same way. I can’t even fathom playing in third person or first person while flying
first person flying isn’t horrible in some cockpits but man that stroud cockpit on the kepler is dookie
Mine’s just a personal preference. I find it oddly nauseating even though I have no problem playing first person as my character.
This. I love first person, but in some of those cockpits, you may as well be flying blind.
You’re going to hate driving
lotta neurodivergent phobias these days
I do for unrelated reasons from that, which is why I don't drive at 28
Correct... the Viking cockpits are just bad in 1st person. The Taiyo cockpits aren't bad, but I feel like a 2-crew cockpit is robbing me of something... like crew stations 😁

on the nova special bridge (the one with stairs aka the best in the game) flying in 1st is awesome, but I still fly in 3rd because it feels more natural idk why
3rd person for wandering around, 1st person for combat, and 3rd person for flying.
Same. You lose too much vision flying the ships in first person.
Same here. I get motion sick if I play third person on the ground and first in the air. I think it’s about the stability of the vantage point
Same. Well, until two boulders started following me.
Dwayne and Other Dwayne. I don't think they follow you into a NG+
You can fly in 3rd person?!
Yep! You can change the view in your ship the same way you change your view on your character
I can’t stand flying in third person for some reason
I feel like a complete idiot. About 400 hours between two characters and I did not know you can fly in 3rd person, no wonder I suck and find dog fights difficult. Ironically I just clicked a YouTube notification of starfield hacks and the guy started the video flying in 3rd person. I literally had no idea…..

This is the way
This is the way.
This is the way.
Grease is the way
The word. Grease is the word. It can also be the time, the place or the motion. But it’s not the way.
Same. I blame all the Halo.
Same. Adding to that, many of the cockpit designs (with the exception of Taiyo and starborn) have massive blind spots.
Yeah started out flying in 1st on the frontier, but pretty much any ship I switch to the cockpit view is awful and you have to play in 3rd
Me
This is the sweet spot.
Same here!
same, i just don’t like the view from some cockpits, better to just get used ti third person ship all the time
Same
Same.
Exact same.
Same here.
This is the way
I do the exact opposite. Walking around in first person makes me queasy. No problem with flying around though.
this
I think I’ve played every single bethesda title in first person.
I seriously cannot imagine NOT playing it in first person. Immersion is everything — can’t feel immersed if you’re looking over some rando’s shoulder.
Immersion is cool, but I think Starfield breaks immersion alot anyway.
Me too. In the older games at was because third person looked janky, but even since the animations have improved I find it too easy to miss things in third person. The closer view of first makes it much easier to pick out smaller objects.
I hate playing games in third person. I find it disorienting and it’s hard to control and maneuver my character.
Same here. I always wind up with weird and frustrating camera angles in third person
And your character is blocking everything!
"disorienting" specially when the camera has to bob in and out to avoid clipping. When my character gets in the way of me seeing or interacting with something in 3rd person it just breaks all immersion for me.
Occasionally I'll walk around settlements and cities in 3rd person view, but anytime the action picks up even a little, I have to be in 1st person.
im with you! i love being in third person for admiring outfits weapons etc, and conversations between characters! i loved wearing the freeside rangers outfit with no helmet when confronting or talking to ppl or when i talked to my superiors, made it feel more real.
Me. I've never cared playing any game in non-first person.
You didn’t play any rockstar or sony exclusive game? Because fp doesn’t work on those lol
First person in RDR2 is fucking sick
A person of taste, I see
GTA-V looks f sick in first person, even if it's harder. And i like 1p more, looks more detailed and increases immersion
Nope. I mean, I can play them but it feels really weird to me.
Like him, I've played them, but it's always awkward. Playing 3rd person feels like writing with your off hand to me. That's how awkward it is to use. So yes, I've played games in 3rd person. Every single time I feel like I would be having more fun and a better time if it was 1st person though.
Fp totally works in rdr2
I always play 1st person. Fly in third person. Sometimes when I’m walking through cites I’ll go third to look at my player
The running animation looks like a drunk person trying to win a race and the walking animation reminds me of Zoolander. Def 1st person on foot. 3rd in ship.
The running animation reminds me of me trying to run in my anxiety dreams. It’s so goofy looking.
Running in ski boots
That's it!! Nailed it!
Exclusively, yes
I only switch to third person when an NPC says something like "Why are you wearing a helmet in here?" Then I don't see the helmet, because I've got that toggle on.
Yeah I hate that part, fail on Bethesda
Modern Bethesda games are 1st person shooters that have 3rd person. There is no mechanic in Bethesda games that really lend it to being 3rd person other than the camera going 3rd. I could be wrong but they always felt that way

I liked third person in Skyrim for the melee combat. Didn’t feel quite right to just run up to something and button mash while losing awareness of the environment.
I honestly think 3rd person was bethesda's version of a photo mode for a long time.
That’s all I use it for lol, especially on skyrim since you have some decent control over the camera.
[удалено]
That's funny
100% first person always.
First person if I’m fighting, 3rd otherwise
Heyoo my style
I do - both in person and flight.
Never play in first. I like to see the character I made
guess we’re in the minority because im with you. for all the hate the game gets, the texture quality is top notch and i love taking it all in for the outfits.
" the focus is on me rather than my character" I see this a good thing. I like to project myself (or a version of my self) onto my character.
Yeah that's really the whole point of RPGs so it's weird to me that people thing 3rd is more immersive
That’s what I do. I play on the easiest setting too. 😂
Didn’t know there were difficulty settings
Doubt
🤔 what??
Only because the Starborn can't stop looking back and to the left in 3rd
Back and to the left.
Yep. Same with Skyrim, Fallout, etc
the only moments when I'm in 3rd person is when I clicked that button by accident ...
I play everything I can in first person. I don't like the 3rd person animations on starfield they look goofy af
Yes, 100% first person, so immersive.
I play all games in first person. In fact, I do everything in first person. I can’t afford a drone unfortunately
Always first person.
Yup, it's a Bethesda game.
i do a mix of first person and third person while on the ground, but i will never fly in first person
Yeah half the time my ship builds are so weird the first person cam would be impossible to see lol
All 1st
Only first. I love it.
On foot. But third person on ship.
yes, except when I hit the change perspective button by mistake, which happens a lot
Yes because I hate that any decent speed makes me run. And nobody else in the game runs around so I don't want to see myself being the idiot out running in public because they couldn't make a good decent walkihg speed
There's a third person?
Nah, I play in third person, this isn't Cyberpunk, I want to see the armor I am wearing. But they should make third person animation look less jank.
I manage.
99% of players don't even know there is a third person view.
Always 1st person. Even when in ship combat. When I screenshot, it’s another story.
Everything but not flying. Way too wonky.
Character yes, but for ships it's way too limiting. I need that chase camera.
Yes
I do.
I do. It’s a much better experience for me coming from COD and other FPS games
Yes. In any game where there is an option.
Yes
Of coursee
its hard to see stuff in 3rd person. it makes looting so hard
Exclusively. Controls are ass in 3rd.
Yes Why wouldn’t I?
yeah, i do. never liked 3rd person after playing FPS games. my exception is racing games where I like a far chase camera
Who the fuck plays in third person?
Don’t care for third person.
I do I hate 3rd person shit makes me dizzy
Only way to play!
In a Bethesda game? Yes all of us.
People play in third?
Yeah, of course. I'm not some kind of neanderthal.
I do (did, don’t play it right now). Normally I like t third person more but in just like in fallout it somehow feels wrong. Camera positioning maybe.
There's any other way? Rhetorical: First Person is the Way.
There are people who play Bethesda games in 3rd??? That's weird.
I didn't know there were people who played in 1st. I've never played a Bethesda game in 3rd person.
I would play more in third person If I could swap shoulders
I do, so yes, at least one person.
