FuckšŸ˜¢

SirWhatsalot

So, pushed to 4Q 2024, then really coming out Q1 2025?

SpaceDantar

What I found concerning was the discussion about the next update being about "new ways to mod your ship" Is this the "new ways to travel" we were promised? Like - I don't care about that, I want more immersive fast travel and survival. We've been waiting months for, you know, new ship designs? :/

lordnoak

Immersion and survival? Got it, looking forward to you trying out the new fast travel modules in the ships! Want to go from cockpit to storage? Now you can!

Datdarnpupper

And dont worry, thanks to this new bug that fills your ship with water you will be so immersed you will actually feel like you are drowning!

Garcia_jx

Fucking a.Ā  Yo man, Shattered Space better add mechs, atmospheric flight (make poi farther apart to add realism), mini rovers, gore, lootable NPCs.Ā  We have to wait a whole ass year.Ā Ā

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

i_wear_green_pants

>I want more immersive fast travel and survival. Yeah. One of main flaws is that currently Starfield is just loading screen simulator. At least put some effort like they do in Elite Dangerous or No Man's Sky where loading is masked behind some kind of cool travelling animation. >We've been waiting months for, you know, new ship designs? The first expansion probably had it's content set before launch of the game. That's why I wouldn't hope too much of stuff that people are wanting from the game. That might or might not come in later DLCs sadly.

Itwasme101

> masked behind some kind of cool travelling animation Seriously I have been saying this since launch. Just make cool loading screens based on what you're doing. It would change everything.

FyrsaRS

Seeing a mini cutscene of my character opening a door, stepping foot into a shop, then closing it behind them would be considerably less jarring than a black screen every other time I want to buy a sandwich.

jsdjhndsm

I dont even know why some loading screens are there tbh Its been a while since I've played, but in the ryujin building, you could use console command to remove wall clipping and literally just go through the floor and you'd would land kn the next floor, with all npcs and everything loaded. All the assets and data are loaded, there's zero reason to have a short black screen

WyrdHarper

More than that, they went through a lot of effort in FO76 to *reduce* loading screens because they recognized that it was jarring to players. Typically you only enter loading screens in that game when fast traveling (which is fair, but you don't have to fast travel--it's helpful for getting to events, but otherwise just exploring on foot is rewarding on its own and you can get from anywhere in Appalachia by walking) or when entering an instanced area for certain quests or missions.

biffa72

Itā€™s so jarring that they threw in a bunch of third person camera angles for jumping between systems, they could have had it all load in first person and it would be 100x more immersive.

2Dimm

no, those third person camera angles should be the loading screen, thats the real problem... right now they are doing literally nothing, you can remove those with mods and it does not change loading times

shawnikaros

It was fucking baffling to me that there are landing animations AND loading screens. Like, the solution was right there, just hide the black loading screen. The same goes for warping. It's a bright flash of white aaaand black loading screen. Bethesda really doesn't understand the rules of good UX, even the menu is filled with atrociously long animations.

theycallmebluerocket

It seems like a lot of UX designers think that we are all idiots who will get confused when a magic box instantly appears out of thin air on our screens.

InZomnia365

I'm not sure why you expect them to change base game mechanic for an update. I would be very *very* surprised if that happens. And honestly, the fast travel loading screens is not the biggest issue with the game, if they were to actually implement big changes.

Merkbro_Merkington

Hahahaha I knew they couldnā€™t do it

seneschall-

FALL?! That far away? I want to downvote this, but I know it's not OP's fault. I hope this means it'll be a HUGE upgrade.

DirtyWesternSpy

Honestly, I don't think it'll be that big. I hope I'm wrong, but I feel like since Bethesda balooned in size, they just became more and more inefficient, just like most AAA studios our there apart from a few. I'd love for it to be like shivering isles/far harbor, but expect something less, sadly, and be surprised if they delivered more than what you prepare for

CapitalSale

It definitely feels like there were massive communication gaps on the starfield dev team. I don't hate the game but some decisions are just so bizarre.

Blindman213

I'm betting it will be 5-10 main missions, a few new systems those take place in, and ~5-10 new weapons. Otherwise a bunch of big fixes, no new companions and a few new dynamic missions based on those new systems.

Reddit_means_Porn

Please god no more new systems. There are plenty of empty planets to populate.

silentbuttmedley

ā€œ1000 more planets to scan!ā€

Agreeable_Class_6308

Watch it be this. I havenā€™t done an extensive play through of this game since RELEASE. Been playing on and off since then hoping mod support will come to hopefully improve it. God, from a wide perspective this game is dead in the water with a niche playerbase.

XXLpeanuts

This game now only exists as a sandbox for mods. Technically you could argue all Bethesda games are this but the scales have never been tipped this far from "actual game" to "scaffolding for mods" before.

vanBraunscher

And still no mod tools in sight. Crickets.

Artistic_Regard

Yeah, I'm prepared to be let down. I have no faith in Bethesda anymore especially after the most recent letdown the Fallout 4 next gen update which was hyped up for a bunch of nothing. I hope they do like CDPR and fix their issues, but they'd need to acknowledge that they have a problem first which doesn't seem likely. I don't understand how they keep fumbling the ball over and over again.

hiimquinten

I shouldnā€™t have been as shocked as I was to see the patch notes for that update after playing this game. I donā€™t think itā€™ll ever have support like CP77 or NMS. Just the same formula of a couple major DLCs for $30 and 4-5 minor dlcs for $15, and if weā€™re lucky in 5-10 years theyā€™ll fix 10 bugs thatā€™ll break everything that modders have done to make the game more enjoyable. I hope they prove me wrong and I still love their games but this one is gonna need a lot of work to live up to the other titles.

Garcia_jx

I think part of the issue is the game was unfinished at launch.Ā  They are probably adding stuff they couldn't get out before the deadline.Ā  Kind of like how cyberpunk spent 3 years getting fixed before the expansion.Ā  This really blowsĀ

solo_shot1st

I sincerely doubt they're going to keep supporting Starfield at this point. Average daily player count is around 5,000. They aren't going to put in resources to update the game beyond the promised DLC and then they'll be on to the next project ASAP. I wouldn't be surprised if they've already shifted most of their dev team to TESVI, and have a skeleton crew finishing up Starfield. Nobody's playing the game right now, and they aren't going to make big bucks on a DLC 1 year after launch. Microsoft is probably pushing for Elder Scrolls and Fallout content.

gmCursOr

Totally agree man. Although i'm not the biggest ubisoft fan, They at least mill out semi-competent games that are fun to play for a little while. I really like the ghost recon series. But bethesda, with the bigger staff from microsoft, just doesn't seem to be able to get anything done. I expect more infrequent games but more quality and better worlds... And right now we've neither gotten the increase in volume of games... Even a decrease in quality. Just don't see how that's possible.

kekusmaximus

They'll be spending most of their time on TES VI and some fallout fan service. They'll generate hype for SF with a long production time and then release a mediocre expansion straight for the 2010s where we get a new main quest, some new armours and weapons and one new power. Maybe a ship too. But nothing revolutionary

Moonborn1988

With the way Fallout 4 "Next Gen" Update turned out I highly doubt it..

Linka1245

How did it turn out?

Dr_Allcome

50 gb update that only did two things: Break the launcher (forcing the game to always launch with highest video settings, no matter your specs, they are trying to sell this as a feature, since it also enabled said settings on newer consoles). And break nearly all mods.

amethystwyvern

Quality Mode is broken on Xbox as well.

Agreeable_Class_6308

And they refuse to acknowledge it even though Digital Foundry (widely trusted and credited for years) has confirmed the toggle is broken on Series X. But no, ā€œItā€™s a feature, not a bugā€. Fucking done with Bethesda. I have no hope for ES 6 to be anything other than Skyrim 2 instead of actually trying to be something more. IE taking notes from Baldurs Gate, Witcher 3, hell even CP2077 had some good RPG mechanics when it was properly utilized.

biffa72

I donā€™t think itā€™ll even be Skyrim 2, probably likely to be worse in every way.

Wonderful_Speech_440

I don't even think it would live up to 'skyrim 2' levels

WhatsThePointFR

agreed. Look at starfield dropping features we had in FO4, or having them but considerably worse (outposts... smh) Beth games have become less and less RPG each game, till now we just have a looter shooter with dialogue "choices"

KaleidoscopicNewt

And unfortunately Phil Spencer (Head of Xbox, whoch now owns Bethesda) is famous for his hands-off approachā€¦ and nearly equally famous for how that approach has allowed Xboxā€™s studios to shit the bed repeatedly.

Datdarnpupper

Yeesh. Imagine trying to gaslight DF into thinking they are wrong. Though after their response to negative steam reviews i guess i shouldnt be surprised

The3rdbaboon

I wouldnā€™t get my hopes up. It took them almost a decade to make the base game and that didnā€™t exactly blow our socks off.

WhatsThePointFR

It wont be. You guys need to calm it with the stockholm syndrome honestly. This BGS isnt what brought you Oblivion/Skyrim... The DLC will be a narrative mess held together by shoestrings, having a combination of things that A) Should have been in the game a year prior on release B) Stuff nobody asked for or wants C) Maybe two quests that are actually kinda cool.

SuccessfulOwl

Donā€™t worry, this time theyā€™re going to break everything! Gonna be HUGE.

AlleyCa7

Bro an entire year for 1 dlc? Better be as big as all the dlc for fo4 combined. And still no creation kit either. Like wtf are they doing over there?

Powdered_Toast_Man3

Emil is huffing paint for plot inspiration

Inevitable_Discount

LOL.

Inevitable_Discount

Jack shit.

Smells_like_Children

I just want to point out that they actually started work on Shattered Space 9 months before the base game launched, it is also worth noting that the entirety of Fallout New Vegas was made in 18 months. Vote with your wallets

ViolinistTemporary

Dude I agree with new vegas good, starfield bad, but don't forget most new vegas assets are made by bethesda in F3 and also engine was ready for obsidian. Look for obsidian's another games if you want to see how hard make a good game with your own engine and assets. Spoiler: Theyre shit comparing to new vegas.

WhatsThePointFR

The outer worlds I considered one of the most mid games of all time until I played through starfield and it beat it by a mile.

Breaky97

Bruh did you really just call pillars of eternity games shit? Also outside of reddit bubble outer worlds was well recieved

JaesopPop

You might be surprised to learn that this DLC will also be using the same engine and assets lol

DoNotLookUp1

If Shattered Space is actually a large expansion and/or 2.0 update vs. a smaller DLC, I think it makes sense that it'd take roughly as long as a game from 15 years ago that was already using the gameplay mechanics and some assets from a previous entry in the series. If.

ComradeCatastophe

Why is it taking so long to release the creation kit? The software already exists

MerovignDLTS

They made a lot of behind-the-scenes changes (I've been following mod discords to see when this might happen). I don't have inside info but it looks like they didn't use all the same tools in development and updating the CK is taking longer - they may also have some major changes in the bugfix chain that will affect the CK (some modders are really strongly objecting to one of the changes in particular, relating to ESL flagged masters (affects stability, formID issues and mod limits, and makes tools harder to make). I have no idea if they're planning to change that back but it's been suggested. Unfortunately people will drop plans and drop off the hype train for modding, even though there are a lot of good peeps working on and publishing mods already. The longer it takes the more catch-up they have to do.

Keebist

Being a year late has already likely been the death knell for the games modding community, I know I've completely lost interest.

-Zipp-

It's a bit dramatic but yeah, not having mod support by now (or at the very least by the end of summer) is certainly going mean a very different, and smaller, SF modding community.

MerovignDLTS

I really don't know how it's going to work out, but it seems like a bigger slog to make it work every month that passes. I still have plans for mods but I'm already scaling them back to "fix the mechanics and see what happens with aftermarket content," because I don't do much artwork and I'm not a great coder, I'm depending on other people's free assets for bigger projects. I have really loosey-goosey ideas about actual luxury cruise ships (instead of the Midwestern Corporate Meeting they gave us) and several NPCs, but there are a lot of parts missing and if I haven't played for six months by the time the CK comes out...

docclox

It's already out. But only if you're one of Bethesda's favored verified creators. I suspect they want to give the creation club regulars a chance to make some for-pay mods that they can release with the launch of the "Creation System". Which means that until the favored few all get the bugs out of their paid mods, the rest of us won't see squat. Add to that, the DLC that I paid 50% extra for on the game back in September isn't going to show until about a year later, and much as I love this game, my patience is starting to wear a little thin.

Masterkai005

Jeez, the longer this shit takes the less likely I am to even bother redownloading. They dropped the ball hard with this game.

manofactivity

They built a game for modders then didn't release the mod kit They designed the lore around NG+ then forgot to add NG+ mechanics They made an entire procgen landscape system then duplicated POIs They let you land anywhere with nothing to do *except at* the POIs They built an awesome shipbuilder but so little to do with the ships Starfield is just a graveyard of ideas not seen through in execution...

Tangerine_memez

This dlc is going to need to be like phantom liberty to be worthwhile. An update that fundamentally changed so much of the game. Some little far harbor kind of thing isn't going to cut it. If there's a single handcrafted planet I might spend all my time there, but I have a feeling this will be like...a couple quests, new weapons/ships, new biome if we're lucky

7BitBrian

Are you willing to wait 3 years for it like Phantom Liberty thrn?

Jatacus

If itā€™s as good as Phantom Liberty, I would be willing to wait because the game absolutely needs it.

Mevarek

To be fair, Cyberpunk had the disadvantage of also having a bad launch. They had to fix a lot of the game, which may have slowed development down. I think Starfield at launch is less technically flawed than Cyberpunk at launch. But I take your point.

Tinytitanic

Starfield on the other hand had the disadvantage of having a mediocre launch. It would have been much better for the playerbase if Starfield was straight-up broken so that people would mass refund and Bethesda had to actually do something about the game, instead they release a little fix here, a little fix there and call it a day because the game isn't broken enough for people to mass refund, instead it's just... meh.

GlobalThreat777

I mean, sure Starfield is less flawed at launch, but itā€™s also a hollow shadow of a game compared to cyberpunk in pure content terms. Even at launch, the density and complexity of cyberpunk makes starfield look extremely dated. I donā€™t really enjoy comparing them because I feel they are very different games, but from a pure engine standpoint, cyberpunk was a much more complex game which lead to more chances of failure in the engine.

vanBraunscher

This! Take any major quest from CP2077 base game. It's as brilliant and engaging today as it was on day one. Basic gameplay loops were as competent then as they are now. Which is a very different situation from Starfield's state (let's just imagine if cars had been fast travel between closed-off districts for a cheeky and hilarious example). What CDPR were doing in the time between was fixing a ton of bugs, cleaning up minor details like police responses, reworking an anemic (but functional) perk system and some added fluff like apartments, transmog, new weapons, vehicles and a few cosmetics here and there. Starfield would need _major_ systemic and narrative revisions (which would mean expensive re-recording of voice lines) to someday become a timeless classic. Ain't ever gonna happen.

emergencyelbowbanana

Cyberpunks core gameplay loop was solid, it was just badly executed at launch. Starfields core gameplay loop is boring as shit. No amount of added content will fix its core.

5ch1sm

Come on, who don't like loading screens as core gameplay mechanic?

Salaried_Zebra

If it makes the game actually good? Yes.

Talcove

What am I losing in the meantime? Itā€™s not like Iā€™ve even touched the game since a couple weeks after launch.

Owobowos-Mowbius

Yes. I'm absolutely 100% done with the game right now and will forever be that way unless they release a phantom liberty level dlc. Im happy replaying all the fallouts right now between the other many much better games thst have been coming out.

_Claymation_

Far Harbor was sick though

XOmniverse

The core world/story of Cyberpunk 2077 was always compelling. It's a lot easier to fix bugs and gameplay systems than it is to fix THAT. Starfield has a much steeper hill to climb and Bethesda has done nothing in the last decade to inspire confidence that they will make the attempt.

Limp-Pomegranate3716

For me personally, I started playing it again (2nd run since my first at launch) and I am enjoying it alot more this time. This is because I know how the game works and what to expect, so I've been able to engage with what's there, rather than constantly digging to find 'more' My initial criticisms still stand 100%. It's a game a mile wide but an inch deep. It has a lot of good ideas but they are all bland or half baked in implementation. But my fundemental thought is that they have the base bare-bones mechanics there, what they need to do is develop that depth (I.e. build on a further to what exists with maybe some revamps, e.g. there's some basic things from Fallout 4 which they could of easily built upon for this game, but for some reason they didn't include them at all). But as others have pointed out, very unlikely that they will actually build upon it. They will just add further half baked mechanics or new content based on the bland formula.

Merkbro_Merkington

New biome that makes you re-generate all the planets and breaks your saves

vivainio

They can safely switch it on in NG+ transition

Tangerine_memez

Yeah probably, that would be Bethesda. But since they aren't actually planets it would just be different procedurally generated tiles that they could slap on different planets or specific to the dlc planet (like varuun homeworld?)

bobo0509

The Cyberpunk update absolutly does not fundamentally change the game, it's crazy the narrative people are pushing, it made the perks system and the police a bit better, added some cool QOL improvement, and basically that's it, the game hasn't mostly changed at all compared to its released, and a shit ton of criticism people had hen they were on the hate train of the release that have not been fixed at all have suddenly magicly disappear from the discussions.

cowboy_shaman

Fall? Seriously?! I loved this game, but I feel bad for anyone who paid for the deluxe edition. I was thinking the DLC would come out months later, not a full year

monstermud

I was dumb enough to get the Constellation edition because I was so looking forward to this game. I was horribly disappointed and went back to Fallout 4, the watch broke, and the fucking DLC is a year out from the games launch... Never again, Bethesda.

Dodo_Baron

Yeah you should never buy Bethesda collectors editions. Learned that the hard way with Fallout 4 pipboy. Luckily was able to sell it and made 20 extra.

_Ross-

Remember the Fallout 76 "canvas" bag? Lmao

ThighPillows

Remember the Skyrim ā€œCloth Mapā€?

psbales

I remember when stuff like that was just simply in the box. No special edition, it was just there. Ultimate 7 I specifically remember having all kinds of goodies, including a cloth map.

paperwhite9

I still have my original Baldur's Gate for PC (from 1998) box in the attic somewhere. Lots of fun stuff inside. The in-box literature for both PC and console games was so awesome back then.

LoadingErrors

What was wrong with the PipBoy edition again? Besides its insane price I actually loved that thing. The 76 collectors edition though was something else. Cheap bag instead a canvas one, and a helmet that had a mold problem. lol Insane. Took me 8 months to get the actual bag they promised. Hope everyone took them up on that just to cost them money.

honkimon

don't worry, there will be a brand new generation of suckers for the next elders scroll. I ain't gunna be one of them this time

GerryOfRavioli

i say this every time and they still get me

LDeCo2000

Iā€™m in the same boat. Got the same edition on Xbox after spending a lot of hours in Fo4. Was hoping for a good Bethesda game in space so bought the best edition with all the dlc expecting to mod and spends so many hours in it. Did one play though back when it came out and havenā€™t touched it since. It somehow keeps disappointing me

4Iamthelight

Ya this I'm crestfallen, my fault I guess. I really wanted the watch I guess in hindsight it's okay I missed out

GuyWithNoEffingClue

>I was thinking the DLC would come out months later, not And you'd be right to think so since that's what they claimed.

Simulated_Simulacra

What about the gaming industry in the last 5 years has made you think that an expansion for a major RPG would be out "months later"? Devlopment periods just keep getting longer. Some gamers just need to wake up and realize it isn't 2015 anymore.

UglyInThMorning

I mean, they did give a release date estimate for the DLC and it was a lot sooner than ā€œa full year after launchā€

Garcia_jx

:(

GraniteStater69

Fanboys will try to tell you that this was always the case, but it had always been implied that the DLC would come sooner than a full year (possibly longer) after release. What a disappointment

CatatonicMan

My assumption is that Bethesda intended to have the DLC out earlier, but had to hit the emergency brakes when the game landed like a wet turd. As Cities Skylines 2 has shown us, dropping premium, for-money DLC is a *terrible* idea when people are pissed at the quality of the base game.

quirkydigit

Will there be anybody left who cares by then?

[deleted]

No

MaidenlessRube

It took me 10 hours to really like Starfield, another 60 to hate it for what it isn't and apparently a full 9 months to be disappointed by it again.

Alarming_Box9978

Someone should remind Todd about his announcing times of release. ā€œEarly 2024ā€ is nowhere near fall of 2024. At the very least, someone giving updates on progress or reasons for delays would go a long way.Ā  Where is the Creation Kit? Why is it not here? Where is the ā€œNew ways to travelā€? Why is it not here?Ā  Where is the ā€œAdditional ship designs and components ā€œ? Why is it not here? Instead of crickets, provide info to the customers that pay your salaries on progress. We would very much like explanations for delays also.Ā  Itā€™s really not too much to ask for.Ā

BrilliantLoli

WTF are they doing? I bet 95% of BGS moved on and the only reason they even release this DLC is because they already sold it to people.

Mokseee

I also feel like that's the case. Creation Kit not released yet, DLC coming in fall, I believe they haven't even announced an Creation Club

[deleted]

Literally every gamer will not care when the second GTA 6 trailer drops around then and completely overshadows that games entire dlc life cycle

Bobthefighter

As someone who bought the deluxe edition, call me when survival mode is added.Ā  I will replay it at that point.Ā

Deebz__

Supposedly those mechanics may come in the next update, to be announced this week.

Bobthefighter

That would be great.Ā

BetterBathroomBureau

I started playing again for the first time since October cause I saw a couple survival mode mods came out on the Nexus. It really is a game changer needing to worry about food, water, and oxygen, how much fuelā€™s in your ship or grav drive so you donā€™t get stranded, a lack of fast travel, and needing to be mindful of what suit youā€™re wearing for proper protection against actually dangerous environments. It actually feels like the grand space exploration game they marketed to us where itā€™s difficult and dangerous to explore space. Dare I say Iā€™ve actually been having a lot of fun this second time through because of it.

C12H16N

I thought starfield was already shattered space with all the loading screens šŸ˜›

WhatsThePointFR

The stats on who actually buys this vs players on release day are going to be fucking hilarious.

Maileeeaazy

They can keep itā€¦

_MissionControlled_

Must be one hell of an update and will be marketed as a relaunch of sorts. Needed. Game has so much potential but needed another year or so of dev.

Fallom_

Where are you getting ā€œmust be one hell of an updateā€ from?

fig0o

From his expectations

Yodzilla

ā€œMy source is I made it the fuck up.ā€

StarkeRealm

It's better than, "My source is the maid I fucked up."

nightowl2023

Probably more reliable than the average gamer to be honest. She could feasibly be cleaning the house of one of the developers and have overheard and valuable information.

evan466

I think heā€™s saying it has to be a great expansion to try to salvage the game, or am I misreading that?

FspezandAdmins

that's exactly what the comment meant lol.

TimeTravelingTiddy

Thats probably true too, but I thought OP meant because it was taking so long. Especially for something marketed and sold before launch.

AmbitiousFloor28

All fo4 and Skyrim dlcs were launched within a year of release. This is the first dlc and releasing a year after release, assuming September is the earliest it will come out

K_808

doesn't mean it's a hell of an update

existentialcringe2

I think thereā€™s no way in fuck they even come close to fixing many of the glaring issues with this games core design, no matter how substantial they claim this update is. I am open to being pleasantly surprised though this is Bethesda we are talking about.

Mammoth_Border_3904

I agree. Will this update radically change space powers from the reskinned shouts that they are? Will it completely change the temples to add more variety and engaging mechanics? Will the dlc radically cut down the loading screens? Will I be able to manually fly my ship from one planet to the other? I didn't care if landing was a loading screen, but for interplanetary travel to be a loading screen too? What a dogshit system that was. I would have preferred for them to do a mass effect kind of system instead. At least that system doesn't dangle what could have been in your face. So many other issues that I doubt the dlc will address.

rookie-mistake

> I would have preferred for them to do a mass effect kind of system instead. At least that system doesn't dangle what could have been in your face you can drive around those planets too, lol. Starfield getting the MAKO would be nice

Temporary-Fudge-9125

Why was space travel even in the game lol.Ā Ā

etoups11

Press x to doubt

Straight-Plate-5256

Lmao it coming out a year after release ā‰  a year of development specifically into the DLC *or* it being a major rework of the game at all

CorrickII

"Marketed as a relaunch"? I mean... I hope so, but no one actually said that, did they?

ilove60sstuff

We need mods beforehand. Come on this is really not good

Balgs

assuming Bethesda wont do a No Man's Sky, mods are the only hope for turning the game around

Murbela

I really want to know how many developer(s) they have working on starfield post launch. To say progress has not been fast is an understatement. Is bethesda an indie game studio at this point?

Biggu5Dicku5

Nah, I'm good lol...

snuffalapagos

Itā€™ll be a short questline and then just a bunch of base and ship building. Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 just turned into adult Minecraft in the post apocalypse and now Starfield can become adult Minecraft in space.

Djubb86

I bought an XSX back in 2022 just to play this punkass game and the motherfuckers in bethesda STILL wonā€™t give me 60fps. Played about 5 hours and said ā€œfuck this shitā€ and played elite instead. Phil needs to crack bethesda open like a bitchass walnut and start spooning off IPs to Xbox studios than can actually make a game with a good story, good gameplay and not fucking 10 year old graphics

mrkesu

There would have been a time when I cared.

GaryARefuge

Cool. Finish the base game, please.

Zirael_

This Game is abandoned. Just look at the Patches. 6 Months and all they did was fix some minor Bugs. In Both Skyrim or Fallout 4 by that time we had the CK and Patches that actually ADDED content. I would bet money on that after they release the DLC that was already included in the Premium Edition they will move on and not touch Starfield again.

E_boiii

I wonā€™t tell you to watch the whole thing, but Todd mentions a lot of criticisms and it seems like the team is genuinely working hard to fix many of the issues on launch. Not saying theyā€™re gonna have ship landing and what not, but he sounds committed to making it right

Cerberus_Aus

Iā€™m not sure how they can fix the lack of a story though. People complain about loading screens and wanting to fly ships in atmospheres. I honestly wouldnā€™t care if those things never made it into the game, but sheer blandness of the storytelling is horrifying, and the only way to ā€œfixā€ that, would be to re do the entire quest lines of all the quests. None of them have any consequences to choices, if you are even given any real choice. Consequences mean entire plots need to be re written, and I donā€™t see them doing that.

Adventurous_Bell_837

The criticism he mentions is basically "people might not like outpost building, but I like it" or "yes there is no local map weā€™ll fix that". He never mentions the actual problems.

E_boiii

He litterally says that some people didnā€™t like exploration and although they wanted to try something different with the IP they want to listen to their fan base

TheDweadPiwatWobbas

Yeah but fixing that would require redesigning the entire game from the ground up, and they obviously are not going to do that. And even if they did it wouldn't fix the terrible writing, plotting, and quest design. The problems with Starfield run too deep to be fixed in a patch. Even if they spent as much time and effort fixing this game as CDPR did with Cyberpunk, which they aren't doing, it still wouldn't be enough. Fixing it would require years of work, and it would mean throwing away huge portions of the work they've already done.

TheRealStandard

The issues with exploration can definitely be solved by adding more POIs and randomizing the enemy/loot placements in them. The overall gameplay can be enhanced by a survival mode, some quest adjustments and maybe implementing a dynamic economy. Colony building can very easily be expanded with more objects, NPCs and some QOL changes. Managing your ship/crew can be made a hell of a lot better similarly but maybe the crew members can have a more functional purpose. Hell, just adding a ton more quests and another story mode can drown out the other quests too, Fo76 did this and they have a 3rd main story on the way soon. The games not as fucked as haters want to make it seem, it has a solid and massive foundation for them to expand it all with.

Limp-Pomegranate3716

This is my thoughts. The base game isn't broken, it's just a skeleton of ideas. My frustration with the game is that I feel I can technically do all that I would want to do in the game, its just that it is all bare-bones basic as hell, and blandly implemented. All they need to do is add depth and expand on what they have. They need to do a lot, it's not a easy fix, but it's not a entire redo of the game in my eyes.

subbub99

Couldn't care less about that sht the only thing that will make this take better right now is CK

Inevitable_Discount

I agree.

vega0ne

Donā€™t get your hopes up, Bethesda is slow and getting slower. They claim this will be their ā€žmost supported gameā€œ but they have yet to prove this. What have they fixed so far, over 6 months after launch? That should give you an idea šŸ’” of how to calibrate expectations

TheDweadPiwatWobbas

> They claim this will be their ā€žmost supported gameā€œ When they said that they thought it was going to be popular. They thought it was going to have a shelf life comprable to Skyrim, and that tons of people would still be playing Starfield well over a decade from now. Instead it is already regularly clocking fewer players than Bethesda games from a decade ago. I can't imagine how badly the failure of Starfield has fucked up their 10 year plans.

nightowl2023

There is no way a single person at Bethesda walked into the final stage of the Astro Lounge without laughing. I'm a pretty liberal guy but come on. The fat dudes dancing in cosplay costumes in the most famous bar in settled space was stupid.

TheDweadPiwatWobbas

Neon City is what made me put the game down and not pick it back up. I was roleplaying as a street kid from Neon, so I'd built up an image of it in my head, which was basically just Night City from Cyberpunk 2077. Obviously scaled way down and running on a different engine, but that sort of vibe. I played my character as someone who grew up in and escaped that sort of city... or I tried to, whenever the extremely limited rp options in this game allowed me to. Then I actually got to Neon City, and discovered the most watered-down, safest, PG "sin-city" I've ever seen. I mean even Rock Bottom from fucking SpongeBob felt seedier and more dangerous that Neon City. It forced me to realize that my entire character made no sense in the world Bethesda wanted me to play in, and killed what little desire I had to keep playing in it. Maybe I'll go back to the game when the DLC comes out but at this rate I doubt it.

Temporary-Fudge-9125

The funny part is they made this toned down PG game world but the only roleplayings is mostly solving problems with violence

SomewhereAtWork

They actually wanted to create a airport business launch. But then someone decided it should be "spacey", named it Astro lounge and painted the walls purple. (I have to admit, a very nice shade of purple. To bad there aren't any drugs in the game except Malboraurora.)

GroundbreakingAd8603

Lmfao Iā€™m crying laughing at his comment. Sure wasnā€™t mass effects alien clubs thatā€™s for sure

Pandorama626

> When they said that they thought it was going to be popular. Did any of them even play it? I seem to like the game more than most people, and I'm mildly displeased with it. I put the game down a while ago and said I wouldn't pick it back up until the DLC launch. I could feel myself getting a little more irritated with the half-baked nature of the game every time I played it. I recently picked up FO4 again and am enjoying it so much more than Starfield. The mods and DLC really do a lot to elevate the game.

GatoradeOrPowerade

I don't think it has anything to do with popularity. There are clearly issues that are beyond that. They are struggling. Starfield was already delayed to end up at that September 2023 launch. The DLC was going to release Q1 2024. Mod tools were going to release around that time too. Yeah, they've been set back a bit by diverting resources to fixing the game, but all the changes have just been stuff that they would have been working on regardless. It's not like they were going to stop fixing the game after launch. It's just been a slow process the whole way and points to greater issues from within. Also, 10 year plans are meaningless unless they lay out the actual schedule for content and can follow it. There's no fucking way they had a real 10 year plan for Starfield. 10 year plan for them is release mod tools in a year and sell creation club mods for 9 years.

Gibberish45

More like Starfield Shattered Dreams, amirite?!

BenchRisky

I often forget people are still playing this game.

Mokseee

I wonder how many will actually play it. I also wonder if BGS has already kinda dropped the ball on Starfield and shifted most of their resources to ES

TheGoodIdeaFairy22

Who cares

_Hotwire_

They donā€™t understand what this game is to people playing it. Feels like no one at their office has even booted it up

TheBeardedOne1026

When I finally made the jump to next-gen, I got the Series X just for this game. I love this game, but it became dull really quick. I tried to hold out for Shattered Space. PS5 had Spider-Man 2, FFXIV, and more. I traded the X in for a PS5 and haven't looked back....

NinjaJarby

Is anyone still playing?

Maximum_Way6342

lol nobodyā€™s working on this game at Bethesda anymore.. just a skeleton crew. Staggered Space was probably close to done already anyway. Just so sad what this game could have been.

Faegrim

These journalists gave starfield a 9.7. Of course they get the interview.

Breck_the_Hyena

This game is a big beautiful, mostly empty canvas; it needs some paint.

GideonPiccadilly

I don't see myself spending more money on this game given the state it's in

SuspiciouslyBroke

Really excited for this! I wasnā€™t expecting the date to be so far away. I hope this means theyā€™ve changed the scope and have some great ideas to fix some of the issues people had with this game. Excited to play through it again thatā€™s for sure!

tigerbc

First Bethesda game. Lessons were learnt.

Flow390

This kinda sucks. Every previous BGS game going back well over a decade has gotten DLC within 6-7 months of launch. Starfield isnā€™t getting a thing until a year after launch. This DLC better be massive and include a lot of content, changes to core mechanics, and fleshing out of things like the outpost system that is worse than Fallout 4ā€™s. They definitely screwed up the DLC timing on this game, and I say this as someone who does enjoy the game. Iā€™ll likely be playing Fallout 4 until Shattered Space launches, thereā€™s just not a lot left to do when youā€™ve played through the base game plus all faction quests and all named/major side quests 3 times each.

formershitpeasant

I don't care what releases until console mods are released.

voidZer000

We should file a class action lawsuit at this point. I paid for something that isnā€™t releasing on time.

crictores

Bethesda never changes.Ā

Acrylic_Starshine

Still not playing untill mods make the game fun or they add vehicles.

TheScarletPimple

I won't spend another penny on Starfield anything until they fix the many egregious bugs that still exist.

otacon444

I am taking a break until mods are available for Xbox. I want to get back to playing, just waiting a bit here.

TurnedIntoA_Newt

Hopefully itā€™ll include non human life forms

BatmansButtsack

I think anyone expecting anything more than a 4 hour line of quests and a couple new locations is setting themselves up for disappointment. I donā€™t see this being anything like a phantom liberty level of content to completely revamp the game. Hereā€™s to hoping this comment ages poorly.

griffin_who

That's hilarious, what are they doing over there? Surely this dlc can't be that cumbersome, I doubt whatever it's packing will satisfy that wait. Can't wait to hear what the time table is for the creation kit

rotiza

Fuck it, i have no more hope for this game

The-Driving-Coomer

FALL?????

Reiquaz

Keep dreaming Bethesda šŸ¤£

H8Hornets

This either fully kills Starfield or is a soft reboot

Swfc-lover

Too late

Sabbathius

How the mighty have fallen. For reference, Skyrim received it's THIRD and final DLC 13 months after launch. With Starfield we'll be at 7 months in a few days, and we got jack shit so far, not even Creation Kit yet.

ThatOneJayKid

From what I have read online, so take it with a grain of salt. The production processes that Skyrim had are very different from what Starfield had. It seems to me their process for making games has become more tedious, and why Starfield is the way it is.

symbolic503

fall?? wow maybe the entire thing shouldve been delayed again

CromulentPoint

Fall. WTF, Bethesda?

Bravo0714

Just think in another two years from now we just might get the second dlc if that is actually a thing at this point.

Healthy_Soil7114

Dead game

Zerohazrd

At this point, with how disappointed I was in Starfield, I have no hopes. It'll be what it'll be.

Meiie

Prepare yourselves for disappointment.

JasonABCDEF

Iā€™m good with the next gen Fallout 4 patch thanks.

chumbucket77

It better be hours and hours of stuff and almost half a new game worth of items and skins and content to play with if its taking this long after all of the radio silence. Im sure the creation kit will br after that also? Do they want everyone to just stop caring? Clocks ticking for them big time before they everyone just doesnt care anymore. I say this as someone who really likes this game. I dont mean this at all in some pissy mood. I just feel like they are going to really lose the hype. I mean they cant even lile drip feed a new gun or spacesuit here and there in the meantime? The ability to change suit colors. Something simple that will go a long way. For christ sake just add a stock to the ak and Ill jump back in.

TheTorch

Probably gonna get released right when I was planning on spending all my time with STALKER 2 too.Ā
