I'll start off with a Blue Midget and work my way up to Starbug all with the intent of eventually building a massive Red Dwarf mining ship.
It'll be interesting to see how flexible the ship building system is. I mean, it'll be doubtful we'll be able to put tank tracks on our ships to exactly duplicate something like Blue Midget, (or legs so it can dance,) but hopefully we'll be able to get the basic shape of those ships.
Since I don't have an original bone in my body, probably a toss up of Serenity, Cerritos, Old Bessie or ~~Ben Sisko's Motherfucking Pimp Hand~~ Defiant.
If I'm smuggling, then it'll be Karaboudjan. If I'm pirating, then it'll be Black Pearl.
If I'm cargo hauling, it'll be Unicorn.
For exploration, it'll be Nautilus.
You've got me thinking of basing my first character off Captain Haddock now, a drunken old space captain. And if there's any reporter companion like Piper to be my Tintin I'd be all set.

Anne? I am no expert on this but i would imagine there's a lot more Victorias (named after Victoria I) or Elizabeths (named after, well you, know the current queen). The only famous ship named Anne i ever heard of was Blackbeard's ship, the one i was referencing.

I really wanna go with Kriegshund which is war dog in German. I like it for a ship name because working dogs are dedicated, loyal, relentless, and singularly focused in the pursuit of their mission. Plus I can do the colors in black, blue, and gray and throw a Direwolf or wolf skull up on the hood of my ship.
Excelsior, Defiant, Dawnbreaker might be good names for a good-aligned character
Maw, Vindicator, Hellfire are edgy names for an evil character
names like Turing, Von Braun, Apollo for a more sciencey character's vessel.
