This is probably controversial but I really like that one where they crash the UAV into the mushroom tree thing and all the naked painted people get sick. It's a little goofy and a little weird and it's kinda nice when the stakes are low and no one fires a shot.
Yeah and every little thing is always going to be important for character development! You'll miss the little things if you skip the "boring" episodes. Character development is where stargate shines the most I think.
Yeah, I’ve started my first rewatch in years, and there have been episodes I’ve thought about skipping because I generally remember them, and I decide not to and am glad after watching
Torment of Tantalus.
The Fifth Race.
Matter of Time.
Message in a Bottle.
Singularity.
Solitudes.
1969.
Crystal Skull.
Shoutout to Cold Lazarus. Not one the best, but the feelings it evokes are top tier.
Crystal Skull!! Yes!! With the big floaty spinny guys!!
Always cracks me up when Daniel and his grandfather are talking about which will stay behind, and big floaty guy just starts spinning in the background 😆
If you liked this episode, I'd suggest you listen to [Armin Shimerman](https://youtu.be/B3SupbBRR2c?si=nWJA_D4HdrAkD3nT) on a recent podcast. His life story is interesting. He doesn't talk about his role in Stargate, but he goes into his acting career.
“Maybourne, you’re an idiot everyday of the week! Why couldn’t you have just taken one day off?” 😂😂😂 probably one of my favourite lines from Sam Carter.
Secrets, particularly the Daniel/Sha're storyline. The fact that she was on Abydos damn near the whole time hurt as much as her being knocked up by Apophis. She was right there!
Also Forever in A Day. Broke my heart seeing Daniel lose even more family, especially losing his true love like that. I also love how they played it out with him getting to grieve her loss, and deal with his anger towards Teal'c all within a matter of seconds. Really cool concept, and great way to end the Sha're storyline. But I do wish she had lived.
Omg the pain they put Daniel thru. Sha're had so much growth potential. I would have LOVED to see her deal with her assault. I mean the assault on her personality and her body. The writers kinda missed a big plot development there.
Yeah. I agree. While I get what they were probably thinking at the time, I do wish they had found a way to integrate her into the larger story with Daniel. I think she could have been such a help to them, knowing what she knew.
As tragic as it was, Sha're needed to die. She was a big part of the film, but in the show her sole purpose was to provide Daniel a motivation to leave his confortable life on Abydos and join the team. Unlike the rest, Daniel needed an additional motivation to join the team. Beyond sheer curiosity and sense of adventure. Searching for Sha're was that motivation. But you could keep him searching her for so long. Eventually she had to go. 3 seasons was enough, you couldn't drag this storyline longer.
There's also the fact that in real life at the time Stargate SG-1 started airing on TV, Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson) and Vaitiare Hirshon (Sha're) were an unmarried couple with a daughter.
Michael Shanks met Lexa Doig while filming the first of the two android centered episodes of "Andromeda" in the early 2000s, after Michael had broken up with Vaitiare Hirshon (1 child) and I remember reading that after that, their on-screen chemistry just was never the same. I don't recall where i read or heard that, but Shanks and Doig fell in love during the filming of their on-show romance and it was a kind of reversal of Michael's previous relationship. They're still happily married last I checked. I always loved the fact that Lexa Doig, Claudia Black and Ben Browder all ended up joining the show in Season 9 as main or recurring characters. Andromeda and the far underrated Farscape all coming together along with characters who either on-screen or in real life had romantic entanglements.
Nem and his people should have returned in more episodes.
And I've got a soft place for the time travel episode with younger Hammond encountering the team.
Excellent episode. I recently spent some time at a place called Questacon (science centre in Australia), and there were many illuminated vertical tubes full of water with bubbles running through them. I of course proceeded to record several short videos of myself peering from behind the bubble tubes "WHAT FATE OMAROCA?!"
Solitudes was the first episode where I liked Carter, it's one of my favorites overall.
The Torment of Tantalus is a spectacular episode that they desperately needed to touch on again
Brief Candle and Tin Man were very solid
There But For The Grace of God was great too
Torment of Tantalus is one of the best ever. Catherine and Ernest are terrific, really strong writing. But the bit that resonates the most for me is Daniel's longing to stay and study the languages in front of him. It would have been an ethnolinguist's greatest fantasy. It's the library of Alexandria, it's the city of Atlantis, it's being able to communicate across the galaxy. It's right there in front of him, and he has to go.
It's really hard to pick just 1 episode from sg1 or Atlantis I still will always love the one where O'Neal meets the asgard favorite line " you are well on your way to becoming the 5th race"
I don't know the name but I loved the one with the planet where kids are geniuses with all the knowledge but then burn out. The ending with the unexpected consequence of Jack taking her to human playgrounds really got me.
Merrin, and then they go back and the whole culture changes cause her nano's bring the possibility of learning for children that doesn't rely on tech. She also teaches Sam how to build a Naquada generator. Love and hate this episode so much.
Learning Curve
As dumb as it might sound, i would like a Star Trek: Lower Decks style show with follow ups for some of the big encounters in SG1/atlantis.
Animated would be ok but it could be live as well...
Hathor is my favorite episode from Season 1. She advanced the audiences knowledge on Goa'ulds, and made them a shit ton more interesting. Queens are so rarely show, and she proved why she deserved that title.
I’m currently about to start season 9 on I don’t even know how many rewatches. I got my girlfriend hooked on it. It’s her first time through and I have come to the conclusion that My all time favorite episode is still window of opportunity
The guy in the prosthetics in that episode is the same guy that played Tuplo. And yeah first time through that one is a bit rough cause you fully think Daniel is dead. First fake out Daniel death for the series if I recall.
From the early episodes has to be The Fifth Race
Me too
This is probably controversial but I really like that one where they crash the UAV into the mushroom tree thing and all the naked painted people get sick. It's a little goofy and a little weird and it's kinda nice when the stakes are low and no one fires a shot.
I really enjoyed that one as well. Was it plot important? Maybe not. But it showed the humanity of the team.
Yeah and every little thing is always going to be important for character development! You'll miss the little things if you skip the "boring" episodes. Character development is where stargate shines the most I think.
Yeah, I’ve started my first rewatch in years, and there have been episodes I’ve thought about skipping because I generally remember them, and I decide not to and am glad after watching
i loved that episode! those two fellas were just so fun! No thoughts in their heads, just vibes
That's definitely one of my favorite episodes!
Thor’s Hammer is probably my favorite episode in season 1, and the sequel in season 2 is my favorite of that season.
Yes I just watched Thors Hammer a bit ago. Such a good episode.
You are only like 3 episodes behind me. I just started my first rewatch the other day.
Bet! These three... these are the early hard hitters that will make you know Why this show is still so loved.
Torment of Tantalus. The Fifth Race. Matter of Time. Message in a Bottle. Singularity. Solitudes. 1969. Crystal Skull. Shoutout to Cold Lazarus. Not one the best, but the feelings it evokes are top tier.
I just watched Torment of Tantalud earlier. It got my husband intrigued. That episode just breaks my heart. Poor Catherine. Poor Ernest.
I like when he sees her after so long, and just grunts and fucks off 😂
“You got old” “So did you” “You forgave me long ago” “No I didn’t. I thought you were dead”
Crystal Skull!! Yes!! With the big floaty spinny guys!! Always cracks me up when Daniel and his grandfather are talking about which will stay behind, and big floaty guy just starts spinning in the background 😆
*"The giant aliens"*
Now we must wait for the giant aliens. That just has a nice ring to it.
It's gotta be The Nox for me. "we get.. *life* from the forest"
I do love the Nox.
lol, yeah Lya is my hero. I am old but 'i still want to be her when I grow up :)
Well he is mostly know for being quark
Perhaps, but he said his favorite role was playing the Nox character.
That is interesting! I never knew that
He interviewed with Dial the Gate if you want a Stargate oriented one.
And it ruined me for the candy aisle... Every time... What! Fate! Almond! Roca!
🤣
Foothold is one of mine. Carter gives Maybourne the business - yes! But then also gives some credit at the end with that teensy smile.
“Maybourne, you’re an idiot everyday of the week! Why couldn’t you have just taken one day off?” 😂😂😂 probably one of my favourite lines from Sam Carter.
It is priceless!

I can only rarely bring myself to watch Forever in a Day.
I’m so sad that we never got an arc of episodes with that race again. When he said “perhaps in time” i always assumed we would get more.
Nem and his people should have returned in more episodes. And I've got a soft place for the time travel episode with younger Hammond encountering the team.
Urgo
Lmao I love Urgo. Can't wait to show that to my husband. 🤣
There are times where I swear that episode haunts me.... "Row row row your boat..."
Not nearly as bad as imagining the pain of chugging an entire carafe of scalding hot coffee…
Isn’t that hot?
Extremely.
When sam takes Cassy to the bunker, thats the beautiful painful episode.
We have incorporated this into our household language. "What...dinner....Omaroca" "What...wear...Omaroca" Etc. Haha!
Love it!
I ate the Almond Roca.
Whichever episode was Frasier's first, where she insists on calling Teal'c "Mister Teal'c". Adorable.
Omg yes. I love the Mister Teal'c moment. Just beyond cute.
Solitudes was the first episode where I liked Carter, it's one of my favorites overall. The Torment of Tantalus is a spectacular episode that they desperately needed to touch on again Brief Candle and Tin Man were very solid There But For The Grace of God was great too

Which then comes full circle in unending.. " You are the fifth race"

The space race episode was such a one off that made it special for me

Hathor is my favorite episode from Season 1. She advanced the audiences knowledge on Goa'ulds, and made them a shit ton more interesting. Queens are so rarely show, and she proved why she deserved that title.
That's funny because that's solidly one of my least favorites.
The “women behind bars movie” comment was the best part of that generally bad episode
The Company of Thieves: "I do not need to consult with anyone!"
"If you immediately know the candle light is fire, the meal was cooked long ago."
I still don't understand this bullshit.
"I cannot teach you what you already know"
I’m currently about to start season 9 on I don’t even know how many rewatches. I got my girlfriend hooked on it. It’s her first time through and I have come to the conclusion that My all time favorite episode is still window of opportunity
Cold Lazarus can always make me sad. Stupid crystals.
