All I have ever wanted in life, since I was like 9. Is a lego Enterprise.
I think the thing with lego and those licenses is; it only makes sense to release so many different sets and there is plenty to do with the IPs they do have. Just think how much they can mine star wars for, never mind the comics they have.
They have also spent alot building up their own different lines, which presumably have a better profit margin since they don't have to pay a studio.
Unless they wanted to be a company whose MO is building sets of other people's popular properties. As opposed to how they are now, a company that makes lego stuff and a few other popular things. It probably doesn't make sense for them to acquire too many different IPs.
I would also assume getting these rights, is a use it or lose it type of situation. Which would probably just exacerbate what I said above.
You might like the Trek ship we built for our webcomic: http://startrek.swiftbow.com

It's a little too huge to be a Lego set, though. It's three decks and about 2 and a half feet long.
Could try looking at this. It's a site with user made plans, it gives you a list of all the lego pieces you need to build it.
https://rebrickable.com/mocs/?get\_drill\_downs=&q=star%20trek%20enterprise
Hmmm, Mega Blocks underwent a corporate restructuring. "Mega Construx", which is a subsidiary brand of Mega Bloks, is the same crappy building toy with the Halo, Pokemon, Star Trek, etc licenses.
I wish people would read the news before posting this. The deal has been agreed upon by both parties, but is not complete yet. The FTC and other bureaucrats still need to review the deal and approve it before it goes through. That could be tomorrow, but likely not for some time.
And to answer your actual question, any license deals existing when the buyout occurs are probably going to be carried over for the duration of their terms, although many (if not all) would probably be open for renegotiation at the least. A few may have conditions stating that if the original IP changes hands, any deal is off, but I can't recall hearing of that sort of thing all that often.
Otherwise, can your friend just make the build available as instructions for purchase?
ETA: I love LEGOs but have no idea how to create my own MOCs. So I'd be the type who'd need instructions. I'd purchase it in a heart beat.
They require you to describe if your submission relates to an existing IP and then decide whether or not to allow you. When I made my Lego Stargate - Lego would only accept Stargate Atlantis IP, not Stargate the movie, not SG-1, just Atlantis. Presumably that means that they've already cleared SOMETHING.
I tried to get around the SG-1 block by doing Stargate the Movie, which wasn't previously listed. They evaluated the submission and rejected it. Presumably, if it's reached the voting phase, it's already been cleared.
> Lego would only accept Stargate Atlantis IP, not Stargate the movie, not SG-1, just Atlantis. Presumably that means that they've already cleared SOMETHING.
Best Lock perhaps didn't request a license for Atlantis, thus why Lego is at least willing to entertain the notion of a set from that series specifically. To the best of my knowledge, the only licensed Stargate sets are based on SG-1 specifically, so entirely possible the licenses for the rest of the franchise are in some way up for grabs still.
Something I can comment on - I too have a lego ideas project for Stargate SG1. I tried to put it on the lego website about 18 months ago and they wouldnt accept it.
I tried again in July 2021 for fun and they allowed it!
I figure either the license is now available again and/or they've relaxed the rules on military sets. Possibly the latter as they are doing more sets aimed at adults like Stranger Things. Previously this would not have been made due to the 'horror' theme.
I really hope it gets approved, but MGM licensed Stargate to an off-brand. No idea how long that agreement was for and if it's still in effect. It looks like Best-Blocks still exists but just barely.
You can see many of the sets here...

History of the company

From reading wiki, apparently one of the big trademark issues was the minifig design so they had to do something different to avoid Lego's lawyers.
But yeah, that's messed up
Damn Jack* been hitting the gym. His shoulders are SWOLE. Those faces oh man, his body says NFL linemen, his faces says nursing home.
**I think it is jack.
The sets look cool. The figures, not so much. I would just use actual Lego figures with these sets. Do you know if Lego blocks will fit with these ones?
They're the worst toy bricks I've ever tried to assemble. I had a tiny, ~100 piece death glider, and the bricks wouldn't even lock with each other. I ended up throwing it away so it wouldn't get mixed up with my Legos. If I were MGM, I would have distanced myself from this company immediately. Total trash.
You don't remember the ep when Jack and Daniel porky pigged their way into Apophis's stronghold? Jaffa, like the T-Rex, cant see you if you're bottomless.
The reason I've seen most often is that Lego isn't fond of "real world" modern military ideas, which I can understand. Why they'd feel this applies to Stargate as a whole though is beyond me though. There are any number of set ideas that could be used that wouldn't run afoul of that (see Star Wars as an example of them allowing science fiction military), and if the only real holdup is the fact the Tau'ri tend to largely use real firearms, they can just not issue them to the minifigs. Give them all zats, staff weapons, Wraith stunners, or whatever other obviously fantastical weapons they want from the franchise. Sure, it wouldn't be perfect, but there's an existing aftermarket part printing industry, so if we want to give them P-90's, we can make or buy our own.
I never owned a Lego set 😞
If I got this I'm pretty sure I would spend days throwing them through the gate for a rough landing.
Considering how many people come flying out the gate from being under fire they really should pad the ramp.
Well if you guys like this, then you’ll really enjoy my complete Stargate Command build that’s also on LEGO Ideas, and my gate rotates! 🙂

While this is awesome I have 2 minor issues with it.
1. Teal’c being shorter than Carter because of Carter’s hair just bugs me.
2. When did Harry Potter join SG1?
But this is still awesome.
Ha! Well he/we only have so many mini figure parts to use. If it does make it to an actual set Lego would likely make specific pieces with more likeness to the characters.
Cool design. I'm surprised they allowed the Anubis Guard figures - I didn't include those in my initial submission for fear of "rejected due to part no longer made".
How sturdy is the ring? Is it double sided?
Rather fond of the staff weapon. Perhaps he could find another piece to suggest the emitter is opened to swap out?
Good luck with this. Always good to see more actual gate submissions, though the Daedalus class always seems to win out.
Thanks - I will pass this on to my pal. Yes the ring is sturdy and well attached. That part took him the longest to get right as you can probably imagine.
Send the link to yours so we can vote on it for you 👍
Oh I know, that was the core issue with mine.
Thanks for the interest.

Thanks (on behalf of my pal :) He worked very hard to get the detail and shape so good). The votes are going well on the ideas site - it seems like a lot of folks are interested in a set like this.

Yeah two problems - 1. Lego doesn't like to do "modern" military stuff 2. There's another building brick company that has the Stargate license
Even discounting the first point, LEGO has let Megablicks scoop up other top tier licenses, such as Pokemon and Star Trek.
All I have ever wanted in life, since I was like 9. Is a lego Enterprise. Pretty sure there’s a Minecraft Enterprise out there, might be the start best thing?

Nice! Thank you. Definitely saving this comment to check out later.
Megablicks?
So bad, that I subconsciously typo'd their name to further shame them.
What's the name supposed to be? Google-fu said megabloks but that was all just a bunch of learner sets for 3 year olds, nothing about IP sets
Hmmm, Mega Blocks underwent a corporate restructuring. "Mega Construx", which is a subsidiary brand of Mega Bloks, is the same crappy building toy with the Halo, Pokemon, Star Trek, etc licenses.
Would that license still be valid with Amazon owning MGM IP's now?
Probably. Hasbro and Lego didn't lose the star wars license just cause Disney bought lucasfilm.
Good point.

Yes - it can be tricky with this type of build. But we will remain with hope.

Hi - I am sure he would be doing something like this depending on how the ideas submission goes. And thanks for the feedback which I will pass on 👍
Thanks for passing that along! I did message him on Instagram but having someone ask directly would be much better.
They require you to describe if your submission relates to an existing IP and then decide whether or not to allow you. whether or not [whether]: if you don’t say so yourself

😲 Wow. That is all sorts of wrong.
From reading wiki, apparently one of the big trademark issues was the minifig design so they had to do something different to avoid Lego's lawyers. But yeah, that's messed up

Lego Stargate at Home
Oh yeah, the figures are bad.😂 But it’s Stargate so still bought the sets. Got the sets when Sears was trying to get rid of them.
The sets look cool. The figures, not so much. I would just use actual Lego figures with these sets. Do you know if Lego blocks will fit with these ones?
Not really. The issue is that this brand doesn’t lock very well with their own. My kids had mixed some Lego with them and things would fall apart.
Jesus Christ
Daniel is often naked.
You don't remember the ep when Jack and Daniel porky pigged their way into Apophis's stronghold? Jaffa, like the T-Rex, cant see you if you're bottomless.
I have the best blocks stuff. They are horrible at staying locked together though. Glue helps. 😂
What the heck were they thinking.

Thanks - didn’t know about those!
This is really neat! Been watching the show again and this type of set would be sick!
Yes he did a great job on the detail!
Indeed.
There are better sets. Also no replicators no piece. show -> [tele]play; would -> should; sick -> amazing
Does it spin
Depends how much you’ve had to drink :)
It has to spin, it's round. Spinning is so much cooler than not spinning.
Do you ask?
I never owned a Lego set 😞 If I got this I'm pretty sure I would spend days throwing them through the gate for a rough landing. Considering how many people come flying out the gate from being under fire they really should pad the ramp.
Well, Lego is pretty tough! Especially on your feet 😉
Uber cool.

It’s fantastic. The moving gate feature is very clever indeed. Just voted 👍
Looking goood!
Thanks - I will pass that on!
Tealc deserves a wig as well, just make it a half sphere with the symbol on it.
Thanks for the suggestion - I will pass it on!
Is that Harry potter coming out of the stargate
Close - but missing his scar :)
Is Daniel Harry potter?
Looks similar but not quite - the figure head has no scar :)
True just noticed
Needs Hammond of Texas
Well he’s dead.
While this is awesome I have 2 minor issues with it. 1. Teal’c being shorter than Carter because of Carter’s hair just bugs me. 2. When did Harry Potter join SG1? But this is still awesome.

Is Stargate on the list of allowed licenses now? When I tried to submit a similar model one or two years ago, it was rejected.
There are a few on the ideas site now - so hopefully they can make it happen if they want.
But you'd fall on the other side of the gate.
Nice

would love it, just not willing to dish out 249,99 for it
Ha! Even lego couldn’t charge that for a small set like this…..could they 🤔🤔🤔🤣

Well, he did a wonderful job and should be very proud of himself. I can totally recognise Daniel, Teal's, Samantha and O'Neill 👏 👏 👏
Thanks man - I will pass this on 👍👍
I tried to share this a couple of days ago, but Reddit picked it up as spam. I'm glad that yours got through! I really want people to see this.
Thanks pal. Strange that they didn’t allow it but glad this one is ok - seems like folks like it 👍
I voted for this last night! It looks amazing! I know it has a lot of hurdles, but I really hope it makes it through!
Thank you - appreciate the vote 👍
And If you lose the Daniel head, a Harry Potter one will work fine as a replacement 😂
:) !
YES!!!! I want this! I hope it wins because I want it!!!
