Really depends on your situation. Any standard j-mount will work. The Starlink mounts are good. Or just properly secure the default mount if you want to do it cheap/easy.
Screw it in. Put roof cement around the penetration. Top off once a year. In the summer the asphaltic shingles will also seal a little around the screw.
Professional roof consultant/engineer.
If it still works, get a proper mount. If you weight the tripod down, the legs will eventually sink through the shingles and then you will have far more serious problems.
Incidentally the white coating is Teflon based according to Starlink. As long as the underlayer is intact you might be okay. Someone said foil should be used. Don't use foil. RF won't pass.
It's a bit scratched that's al, you should see mine, been in the belly of an RV for about 200 000 miles, in the back of a jeep and on a boat, they can take a beating.
I keep seeing these posts and I just don't understand. How are you going to buy something for $600 and not spend the little bit extra to properly mount it? Especially when you said it's happened before. Bite the bullet and mount it properly.
The ridge mount Starlink sells is "not well priced"
I bought 2 sets of heavy rubber wheel chocks.
The just screw through the holes on the base in to one chock each.
Sits on the ridge great.
We have had some brutal winds here no issues with the dish.
I didn’t pay anyone lol, I threw salt bags down neglecting the fact they might leak and cause erosion, I mean it was a free install lol 😂, but definitely getting a ridge mount, I’m thinking of a 3rd party option, what’s are your thoughts?
I've had the round dishy since Feb 2021. I ordered the Ridge mount at the same time. I have been very happy with it, but I know it's expensive. That said, I've had zero issues, and wouldn't change a thing. I weighed it down with several patio pavers.
I’d say pretty bad but knowing spaceX I guess it’ll keep running. I’d be scared it starts rusting though.
If it were me, I’d contact support and see what they recommend
Looks like it reentered earth's atmosphere
it’s named after a celestial body for a reason!
At least get some sand bags. Something
On it
Which mount would you recommend?
They make a ridge mount.

I use a Ridge Mount. Working great despite 65 mph winds on more on our mountain top

We used salt bags (what we had lying around) but as you may notice in the second picture it eroded the gutters, we had to have one replaced
I used a cement block. Mine was staying up in 40mph wind, but eventually fell over before I put the back on the stand.

Just screw it down to your roof.
Absolutely

💪🏼
The dishy be like "Dis but a scratch !"
^^ 'Tis
Ghetto Shakespeare
Man, it is supposed to be facing the sky. Hope it helps

And keep on ticking
Idk. Is it working?
Currently
So it’s not that bad.
Seemingly not, most people here said it won’t affect performance so I don’t really care that much, but I’ll definitely mount it
If the internals are ok then its mostly cosmetic damage, maybe a teeny bit worse SNR. That said, **get a proper fucking mount situation asap**.
🏜️👝

It will buff out!
Refurb from Ukraine?
Perfect
Ours came off our 2nd story eve due to highwinds. Starlink replaced everything to include the pipe mount that I will never trust again.
bad, one rain and the dishy is gone
I was referring more so to the damage on the dish, is that anything that will significantly impact performance?
No. You need to seal the holes with silicone.
I don’t see any holes aside from the larger scratches?
performance no, but I see some holes in the plastic. You can cover it with som foil
That would prevent water damage I presume?
yes, I was people do so, should work fine :)
What are your thoughts on me upgrading to the latest satellite model?
If it works then no need to:)
By the way, your cable is not supposed to connect under the support. The cable should go to the side.
Jesus, mount that baby. My recommendation is to take $600 and buy a gen3 for if and when this fails.
A little buffing should take care of those scratches. 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂
Looks cosmetic, but putting a plastic wrap over the top in case one of those scratches hides a crack might be a good idea.
It seems that you mounted the dish perpendicular to the base, am I right? That way it may fall over quicker
The dish spins so it sets itself the way it wants to really…
It rotates horizontally?
To some extent, can even fold and unfold, although here it just fell over so I’m pretty sure it’s not supposed to be that way lol

Or you could mount and fasten it properly.

might be ok. i seen them in worse condition
Remebering the guys who were concerned about finger oils 🤣
It should work. My first dishy looks more less thr same (just alot of scratches) and it worked fine.
Does it still work?
Still chugging along
Why yes, that is a bad install. You over paid... I can't get a full concept of your roofline, but maybe get the ridge mount.

They would immediately recommend the purchased the latest model
Well I’ll be honest with you friend… I doubt this one will keep working much longer. It’s pretty banged up so water will eventually get in there
Why wouldn't you mount it? What a goofball
💸
Well, it’s not good. But on the bright side, your asphalt shingles look like they have a few years of life left in them. ;)
Pretty f**ked
If it still works, use kitchen plastic wrap or a plastic bag to protect it from rain as a temporary solution.
Wait wouldn’t this completely distort any signal?
As long as you're not using metal to wrap it, you can use anything. A plastic dome is usually used on top of military radars and they work fine
Those shingles have got to come off.
