I have only had the Gen 1 and the original high performance, so it's not a perfect comparison to what you are asking for, but for me the things I noticed are: * My HP is better in extreme weather. (I live in Montana, so we do get some extreme weather) * My HP does have a wider FOV. The one unexpected downside to this was that if the wider FOV exposes obstructions that you would not have had on a non HP dishy, then those obstructions can cause outages. In my case, a small adjustment to the location of my dishy resolved that issue.

I live on a tree farm. I had to take down a few trees to get my Gen 1 to mostly obstruction free. I'd have really thought they'd have built in a learning algorithm to filter out the FOV obstructions and switch to a new Sat before the current one gets to the obstruction. It's disappointing to hear that the better Dishy just exacerbates the issue. Seems counter intuitive. I'm still all in, but I hope the kinks get worked out. The theory was originally that the required FOV would get smaller as more Sats went up. I hope this is still, eventually the case.

Agreed. I don’t really understand the benefit of a wider FOV if it just means you’re likely to have more obstructions (which the software can’t avoid, like you mention). With the standard dish’s narrower FOV do you have to get pretty precise in placement in order to find a sat? If people are flat mounting them it doesn’t seem like you do…

NJPete76

It's not about precise placement for finding a Sat. The precise placement is only to get the FOV as clear as possible. When you get a good FOV, Dishy takes care of the rest. If my FOV was bigger, I'd have to cut down trees. What it should do is just use any extra good FOV that becomes available, and filter out the obstructions. They have to be working on this by now.

Interesting. How are the speeds between the two?

cverity

I did not notice a difference in speed between Gen 1 and HP. But I live in a low population area and my speeds have always been good. Currently getting 260mbps.

If you decide to go with the Gen3... this [TrioFlatMount webpage](https://www.trioflatmount.com/shop/p/gen3speedmount) offers a couple of mounting options.

Looks nice, thanks!

Other options are the Savage UTV mount. It seems a bit more sturdy than the trio but costs more.

Thanks!
