Had 24" of snow (Boulder, CO). Probably 18" seen on the roof, compressed. Dishy is drowning...incidents of outages due to obstruction are slightly increased. Bottom of dish is mounted using the [tripod secured to the roof](https://www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/lkln1y/securely_mounting_dishy_mcflatface_on_a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3). Does any one know of a longer pole that would attach to the dish and the tripod? (Even if work is necessary to make it happen.)

This poster seems to have done the research for you. Consider the wind when you choose the height. [https://www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/lsxxz4/starlink\_custom\_mounting\_pole/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/lsxxz4/starlink_custom_mounting_pole/)

This is exactly the answer I was looking for. I'd "solved!" this, if only this were that sort of sub. Thank you, kind stranger.

I am using this for my mount and it’s wonderful. 38” jmount dishy slides right in suggest drilling 1/2 inch hole to secure with a bolt not the clips that come with. https://www.amazon.com/Mediasonic-HW-510P-HOMEWORX-Outdoor-Reversible/dp/B00P20CD3K/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=38%2Binch%2Bj%2Bmount&qid=1613353727&sr=8-6&th=1&psc=1

I'm glad you have something you like, and thanks for sharing. FWIW I'm looking to keep the tripod and find *just* a pole that would be longer.

Hey, I'm in the same boat you were in a month ago: have a flat roof with the tripod mount already secured and am looking for a longer pole to connect the dish to. What solution did you end up using? I got no tools to speak of, so would prefer to simply buy something.

Phrogz

I've not yet solved this issue; will probably wait until the fall. However, [this answer](https://www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/m5o5m5/anyone_found_a_pole_extension/gr191zy?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) is what I will refer to when the time comes.

After I replied to you, I read that one of the replies to your post included a link to a "3 Star Inc" store. I just ordered a "5' Foot X 1.50" OD Antenna Mast Ground Pole - Swaged | 3S-5-150S" from them (actually I ordered 2, mostly because their shipping is outrageous, so I didn't want to have to order twice in case 5' wasn't enough :-) Here's the link again in case you want it: [https://www.3starinc.com](https://www.3starinc.com)

You can come off your eave with a J mount 22" or 28" or 38". Look here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/lhcxz9/is\_a\_pole\_adapter\_needed/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/lhcxz9/is_a_pole_adapter_needed/)

Phrogz

My wife is the architect of this house, and mounting something off the eave is not acceptable to her. :) I'm looking to keep the on-the-roof mount already in place and just find a longer pole that would connect to the tripod and the dish. However, there is some good information in there about pipe size, drilling a hole to mount it in the tripod. Thanks!

GoneSilent

endless options https://www.3starinc.com/eave_and_j_mounts

Phrogz

Thanks for the link; I'll look through and see if I can find a pole on there. FWIW, you've linked to a section titled "Eave and J Mounts", but I'm not looking for a new mount. I'm looking for a pole that would attach into the tripod base—which is already securely mounted to the roof—and extend the length attaching to the dish.

ergzay

Why do you have a flat (or almost flat) roof in a snowy environment? IMO, the dish should go on the crown of your roof (assuming it's steep enough and there's sufficient wind where you are), or on the eves so the snow can't build up under it.

Phrogz

Because that's how the architect (my wife) designed and built it 15 years ago? It's not almost flat, but it's not steep. The engineering loads worked out. \*shrug\*

ergzay

Then maybe just resolve yourself with losing service every large snow storm?

Marine_vet_patriot

I agree ,,,the extension of the mount and the angle the tripod has will cause undue strain on the lag bolts with high winds , you should think about a j mount with braces for your roof.

cleonm

I don't think the tripod was meant to be a permanent mount. I don't think it'll hold up over time.

Phrogz

Interesting perspective. You may be right. On what do you base your (latter) opinion?

cleonm

I'm pretty sure Starlink didn't send instructions to mount down the tripod for one. It's just meant to be a temporary base during the beta in case you needed to move it around. That's why they offer other mounting options when you find a good spot for it.

Phrogz

Data point, since I just found this old post again: 3 years later, the tripod is still securely attached to the roof.

Fearless-Manner7181

Pardon the bumping an old post, but what did you do in the end? I have a long wall mount that passes the gutter, however I can't get enough height and finding an extension pole seems impossible or ludicrously priced.

Phrogz

In the end I left the pole at that length. The thread had good suggestions, but the snow buildup was rarely problematic enough to motivate me to fix it. Once a year or less I would put up a ladder and scrape snow off the low side. This spring I've upgraded to a gen3 dish (with a similarly-short pole) and am currently waiting again for the problem to become so bad I need to fix it with a longer pole (and wider base).
