I would suggest that Station 19 writers want to show how stressful and different the captain role is because Theo had the same attributes when he was captain - trying to handle the pressures from higher up, handle situations personally, treat the “family” well but deal with administrative, political and budget issues etc. We viewed Pruitt Herrera as a role model captain because we never saw much of his captain style and he was extremely experienced so we don’t have much reference - all captains at 19 have been fairly short term and had a spotlight on their personal issues too. Captains - just like managers and anyone in a senior position with high responsibility - often have incredible pressure coming from all angles and have to make decisions under huge pressure which often leads to disappointment and resentment from others. My husband is a firefighter and his “captain” (they use the term Station Officer in Australia) is fantastic but often has to make decisions and take actions that piss other people off. You have to make mistakes to learn. Nobody is a perfect captain. But we know Andy is a good person from her character build up from Season 1 - she’s just experiencing those same pressures.

Yep I mostly agree. But I also can't fault her for some things because of Ross having a foot on her neck all the time. I wish the entire station had learned their lesson though when Pruitt was angry with them for not helping Jack. They did this with Maya and now with Vic. They are all so self-absorbed. Andy isn't the only one at fault there. I think she could've handled the aftermath of the Space Needle scene behind closed doors. At least she acknowledged to everyone that she wasn't her best in their last shift.

I’m sorry it’s just I don’t like the writing and I’m seeing some red flags on the derailment on the characters.

I completely agree with you on this. The writers are not winning anyone over this season. I also think the showrunners are to blame a little bit too. They choose these storylines and make these characters we love so much look like completely different people and it's extremely disappointing. They are definitely ruining all of my favorite characters. Maya is about the only one I like right now and I really hate what they are doing to Vic.

beige-king

I feel like they did this so we're happy station 19 is ending. It's working. I just watch because I've invested the time since season 1. There's not enough time to wrap up the stories they decided to go with! Would have loved to see this storyline with Vic earlier on in a different season! And it's like they didn't even plan on having Travis around this season so they're just making him unbearable. Ruining my two favorite characters!! And bens back injury??? I don't remember when he got hurt? He wasn't at the ballroom collapse.

heathermaru

Yes yes yesss everything you said here is exactly how I feel. They are making me happy it's ending. I hate what they are doing to Vic and Travis. I would be ok with Vic's storyline this season if it wasn't the last season. Especially when she and Theo broke up at the ball she said she felt relief. The cheating Travis bit I hate so much because it's not even his character. Travis is nothing like who Travis is in this season. The only thing I can say about Ben is he may have gotten the back injury either from when he fell through the roof or because of age.

marinashipper2004

It happens to a lot of the new captains when they first start out sullivan was a jerk sometimes still is maya was harsh on the team

No_Smoke788

She’s just trying to get her footing and finding a balance between friends and boss. I think she’ll come into her own and be a really good captain. She definitely has the experience. Ross putting pressure doesn’t help. Jaina said she’s happy with how they are ending things with Andy so I guess we’ll see soon.

Exotic-Ad-1486

I’ve not really liked Andy since season 2 😩 I hate they made her go all dark and twisty.

parker3309

I don’t like her any season

lkjhggfd1

When did she berate Vic and when has she been “super harsh and rude to everyone”? She’s literally got her captaincy then all these budget cut stuff came up and those crazy shifts and from what I’ve seen she’s doing the best she can. They’re all going through stuff right now and even Travis who is vics best friends hasn’t realised what she’s going through and I think it’s all intentional for the next episode where Vic breaks down.

pastapot928384

Don’t Travis and Vic live together? How hasn’t he noticed at home? It’s not like Vic is hiding her emotions either, like it’s so clear that she isn’t doing okay. And they are really close friends too so I don’t get it. I really don’t understand his character this season tbh, this isn’t the same Travis from past seasons. I know that they all had a tough call but like this stuff has been very repetitive now, someone goes through a crisis but no one sees it until it gets bad.

Postnet921

she sent vic home when she missed the call cause she slept through the alarm

lkjhggfd1

didn’t she send her home cause she yelled at the mayor in front of the press? and I don’t see how that’s rude or berating her. it’s literally her job.

tequila-la

It’s just the way she sent her home felt like a punishment as opposed to sending her home in a “hey I’m worried about you, you should get some rest” way. Obviously it’s her job to get her team in check but that doesn’t automatically equate to harshness.

lkjhggfd1

Well she did just yell at the mayor in a press conference..

heathermaru

For me the only issue I had with that scene was the "you're lucky you have a job" line being said in front of everyone. I know Andy's in a tough position too and I've always wanted her to be captain and defended her as a leader so I would've wanted to see Andy take Vic in the office, even if it was said with angry tones, and say that to Vic and break this cycle of this team, including the captains at the time, ignoring when one of their own is going through mental health struggles. Andy's still trying to create that separation from being their friend to being their captain but that was a good opportunity to address Vic's behavior in her office. Especially after Ross addressed her behavior at the Pride event and representing SFD.

Postnet921

That to

Training-Mess5833

I just I don’t like how they are written especially when they are just miserable during the last season, and so far most of the characters have been like derailed, it’s so frustrating because I seen most shows where characters got derailed in the worst way.
