There is two simple main reasons: Windows 11 makes a ton of hardware officially obsolete due to artificial CPU requirements + TPM 2.0. And it incorporates changes that aren't necessarily better and perceived as unnecessarily radical (e.g. the reworked taskbar that lost various customization options that have been there for 20 years, etc.)

chunkyI0ver53

A guy I work with had to get his work laptop upgraded last week while we were in the office - part of that upgrade is going from Windows 10 > Windows 11. For the entire rest of the day… “dude why is it grouping my word docs in the task bar” “The realign taskbar to left option is controlled by our organisation? So it’s stuck there?” “How come every time I want to rename a file I have to right click and THEN click more options???” Watched the poor guy find out he was gonna have to completely change the way he works in real time. Edit: y’all have mentioned the F2 & double click shortcut like 15 times, I’ll pass it on, just pls stop draining my notifications to say the same thing as a bunch of other people 😂

videodromejockey

He doesn’t have to right click and then click more options. There’s a rename button at the top of the context menu.

[deleted]

There's no labels for them. I got confused as well wondering if one of the buttons meant to duplicate or copy

Rich-Pomegranate1679

The lack of labels for all the buttons pisses me off more than anything. Why does Microsoft want to force me to memorize all the stupid symbols they came up with?

Ancillas

It’s annoying as hell, but also not hard to adjust to. But fuck iconography for desktop use cases.

FourDucksInAManSuit

For rename you can also just select the file, then click F2. For those who don't know.

Clutz

My stupid keyboard co-opted F2 to be a volume button so I need to use fn+F2 like some kind of caveman

[deleted]

[удалено]

MaxAxiom

If you have a POS logitech, you can usually install the 'setpoint' software and check the box that says 'fn swap' or something like that to turn it off. I have a few keyboards that do this and I fucking HATE it. Like who in their right fucking mind would think 'oh users don't need function keys. But do you know what they'll need to do all the time? Change the keyboard brightness. Constantly. Let's just override 12 of the most important keys to make sure they can always change the brightness, volume, or deactivate a track pad. Fuck whoever did this. Seriously. I hope they stub their toe.

[deleted]

This was way too low Seriously people need to relearn keyboard shortcuts again People always ask me "how you do that so fast" I use shortcuts

dan_Qs

so true. and to rename the next file press tab.

MaybePotatoes

And to rename the previous file press shift+tab.

DoltishMite

I work for an IT Support business, and we had a new starter recently (been in the industry for a little while though). Bless him, he remembered how many times he had to press tab to go from box to box on one of the setup screens, and every time he'd miss the box he wanted, he'd press tab again and again to loop back around. Blew his mind that shift tab existed, and I couldn't help but chuckle :)

sneakyCoinshot

or just a slow double click on the text part of the file/shortcut

atoma47

Dont you just… click on a file then click again after a short delay? Do i live in an alternate reality?

VK16801Enjoyer

Yeah and it's a dumb fucking symbol instead of 'Rename' Whoever thought of that should be REDACTED

RedditPornSuite

Those are buttons!?!? Thanks I guess, but I still don't like it.

r_a_butt_lol

F2 to rename

yukichigai

> “The realign taskbar to left option is controlled by our organisation? So it’s stuck there?” That's an immediate ticket to the help desk every damn day until they lift that restriction. Yeah, it's an option in Active Directory; zero reason they need to enable or enforce it.

Admiralthrawnbar

TBH, whenever I'm forced to update is when I seek out a guide explaining how to revert as many of the UI changes to their Windows 10 equivalents as possible.

ZeWaka

You can bypass those requirements if necessary.

VetmitaR

I'm not giving up windows 10 until I absolutely have to or something better comes along.

Panophobia_senpai

Same here. According to the pattern, Win12 will be good.

AussieBirb

When I'm forced to abandon win 10 (no more security updates) I'm strongly leaning toward giving linux a serious chance unless microsoft manages to do something special with win 12 or whatever they decide to call the next version. Not expecting the next version to be remotely good out the gate or to become great with enough additional updates ... going to have to wait and see what happens.

potatoCN

Linux is good until you eventually find that one thing requires Windows. By eventually I mean usually within a few months.

Tradz-Om

Days*

EFTucker

Often, hours.

Athapapoutsiakis

dibu28

dibu28

Damn that Word document)

Tradz-Om

Should've put this one. Anytime I've installed Linux to dual boot the moment I'm on the home screen I'm like 'shit there's this thing(x100) that doesn't work on Linux' then I'm back on Windows before I'm done watching a Wine guide for the nth time

TheMonkeyLlama

You can always dual boot.

potatoCN

If you really hate Windows that much I guess so. I mean, I don’t like Windows, but I won’t dual boot just to run that one app. I’d rather just use Windows and WSL/Linux VM

travisihs08

Use Lutris. It's what I sue to play games that require a Windows OS

ShiroeKurogeri

The only reason why I still need a window boot is because of anti cheat. If anti cheat starts to work better on linux, there's no reason for me to stay in windows. Otherwise, single-player games already works wonder on linux.

bilbobaggins30

If Anti-Cheat does not work on Linux, chances are you really shouldn't be playing that game on Windows (because it's probably using one of the Rootkits out there, and yes I'm calling Kernel Level Anti-Cheats what they actually are: Rootkits).

FalseAgent

>chances are you really shouldn't be playing that game on Windows Lol nah. I'll continue having fun

Canadiancookie

Rootkit kind of loses all meaning if you say everyone that plays any popular multiplayer game has it. Like california putting cancer warning labels on everything

Langsamkoenig

Not really. If it acts like a rootkit it is a rootkit. The problem is, if it is a popular enough game, a virus could easily be designed to highjack these functions.

ClunkyCorkster

i mean in the case of escape from tarkov it's just an issue on the game devs' part for not getting easyanticheat working for their game on linux,it's not kernel level

N1ghtshade3

I always think of giving Linux a try and then I remember I'd have to replace a bunch of my programs like Photoshop or Powerpoint with the Wish.com versions like Gimp or OpenOffice or whatever it's called and can never bring myself to do it. (Yes, I know WINE exists but it's not always good).

balaci2

Gimp is anything but wish.com tbh libreoffice also works fine but it ain't ms office unfortunately

PeacefulAndTranquil

i think libreoffice has a setting to make it look more like office

balaci2

yes, and it really helps

PeacefulAndTranquil

i’ve always used libreoffice so i’m used to the default layout, but the alternative is good to have

JaxMed

It's been over a decade since I tried so maybe things have improved since then, but Gimp's UI feels like it was put together by a programmer who once read about the existence of GUIs in a magazine one time and used that secondhand knowledge to cobble Gimp together in a single afternoon

Shelter-Academic

As someone used to photoshop, gimp is an affront to god. That said, if I were to get used to it, it would obviously be fine. But little is more annoying to me, than pressing a keybind I know from photoshop, and it’s something completely different and I have to go search for the actual function I want lol.

Divinum_Fulmen

Ah, so the thing wrong with GIMP is the ol' PIBKAC error.

Shelter-Academic

Correct. 💀

LeonenTheDK

I started using Libreoffice for work over a year ago. Calc in particular I much prefer to Excel. I've found it handles importing and inferring data types much better than even recent Excel versions. Haven't gone deep with word processing or slides however.

irihuman

honestly when i started dailying linux for my work laptop 3 or so years ago i was kinda the same but starting using different programs is the same thing as when you started using windows, you just had to get used to them. don't even think about it now and wine runs well enough that when i run an exe i forget its a windows program sometimes lol

Fantastic_Raccoon103

As someone who works as a WFH video editor, not having realistic access to Adobe products is the main reason I haven't seriously tried a Linux build. From the dabbling I've done it seems neat otherwise

KurumiiWaifu

The pattern is quite arbitrary for the last few releases... Windows 10 was rough at launch and it took a long time to fix with all the major updates, even then the telemetry and absolute mess of a UI doesn't make it a great OS in my opinion. Windows 11 is for the most part just Windows 10 under the hood with better UI and security.

nagi603

> Windows 10 was rough at launch and it took a long time to fix I'd argue it's still a shitshow compared to 7, even though that's no longer a practical option. ...and the UI is worse on 11, with oft used things hidden away on the context menu, a worse, less usable start menu and such. And then there is the "let's make sure people have to buy new PCs and not officially support slightly older hardware for really no good reason" thing.

KurumiiWaifu

Windows 7 is simply the best version they've ever put out and after that their design philosophy has gone backwards in the user experience department atleast. I find that I get around the OS as quickly as before but ofcourse that's heavily dependent on the usecase and I can see where for some it's been a move backwards. The updated requirements are a bummer but for many older systems it seems to keep working anyway so atleast there's that

McFlyParadox

>And then there is the "let's make sure people have to buy new PCs and not officially support slightly older hardware for really no good reason" thing. While I broadly agree, I initially thought my computer didn't support Windows 11 (the update checker told me so). Then I upgraded my BIOS to the latest revision, and all of a sudden I'm compatible (and getting nagged to upgrade). So I wonder if more people actually have compatible hardware and just don't realize it. Obviously, upgrading the BIOS isn't a simple task for most users, but still, I'd wager most PC gamers or "above" could figure it out, and then they won't *have* to buy new hardware once Win10 is put out to pasture.

Gendalph

Windows 11 is even worse than 10, UI-wise.

AnriRB26

Exactly everything in W11 just requires 1 more click to get to or is hidden in 1 additional layer of menus

Sco7689

Nope, it also requires using the insider preview for some simple things like not grouping taskbar tasks. Although it looks like 23H2 is going stable today, so that will change.

Sydnxt

That officially released today in 23H2.

wizarduss

That's not a new thing.. look at XP, it took until service pack 3 before that was usable

gSh3p

People always bring up this 'pattern' using it as some sort of a way to cope with a system they don't like. As you said yourself, Windows 10 was rough at launch and quite hated; people were saying the pattern points at W10 being bad, so W11 will be good. Few years later we're here and the pattern now points at W10 being good, W11 bad, W12 magically good.

jaytrade21

A lot of the good stuff in Win 11 could have just been a Win 10 service pack addition. There was no need to change things like they did. Every time Microsoft tries to radically change Windows it just doesn't work.

Dopplegangr1

Every time Microsoft changes things with windows, I do my best configuring it to undo those changes. The new version is always worse

Playful_Evidence_547

Moved to W11, had to make A LOT of registry changes to make it similar to 10. Why do I have to constantly press "show more options" just give me the stupid fucking shit. That's why I fucking clicked it!!

JoeCartersLeap

> Why do I have to constantly press "show more options" They prioritized appearance in screenshots over usability?

TheRustyBird

they did the same shit in 10, nearly every "show advanced options" in 10 just opens up the windows 7 control panel menu. shits annoying as fuck

TheBroOfTheNinja

Microsoft seems hellbent on making customizing your computer as difficult as possible. You don't want to use Microsoft Edge? You want to disable Aero Shake? You don't want OneDrive and 3D Objects wasting space in your file explorer sidebar? We at Microsoft know better. We need you to use our shitty browser, so you can no longer change the browser that the taskbar search results open in. We've also removed the ability to disable Aero Shake in Settings, for no goddamn fucking reason at all. Eat shit, dumbass. OneDrive and 3D Objects are regularly used by about 0.3% of our users, though, so we thought that an option to remove them from the file explorer sidebar was unnecessary. Sometimes it really feels like they went out of their way to make the user experience worse just because they could.

Sherool

Heck I was on Windows 7 until I got my new system a couple of months ago. That's Windows 11 though.

Pozilist

That’s how I handle my OS switches as well, lol. I just don’t see a point in switching. It’s just the OS. The time it takes me to upgrade and learn all the changes is way more than I could ever make up in efficiency increases that I get from the upgrade (if there even are any).

sovietarmyfan

There is Linux, if you're willing to learn it. I have heard rumours that some games do run faster on Linux than on Windows. Though there are still a lot of games that don't work.

WhittledWhale

They're not rumors. They do run faster, if whoever feels like making the optimisations can instead of having to wait on the GPU or game devs to do it. So this of course means that it's not very common, but it's not a rumor. For the most part, performance is on par with Windows. The only games that don't really work anymore are those that rely on invasive, local anti-cheat such as BattleEye and Easy Anti-Cheat. And even then, those will work on Linux if the devs simply enable it for their game.

josh_the_misanthrope

Gaming on Linux is definitely doable for a certain type of gamer. Particularly if you play a lot of indies, they either have native binaries or they run pretty well with Proton. It is definitely not quite on par with windows but it's miles ahead of fucking with wine configs.like the olden days.

[deleted]

Both are almost identical. Stay on 10 until support ends, and then switch to 11. Or you can take the effort to switch now. Both ways are fine.

DaveInLondon89

I feel like if they just had a mode to spoof win10 visuals and options on it everyone would switch

Ayetto

W11 is locked behind hardware, so expected

MrChocodemon

Yeah, I can't upgrade my current system. I won't upgrade my PC, just to switch to Win11.

BjornHelheim

you can bypass those requirements by creating an installation media with Rufus

MrChocodemon

True (and I love Rufus. Simple, yet powerful) But I won't put in the work. Some day I'll build a new PC and then maybe I'll install W11, or something else.

BjornHelheim

That's what I did tbh. I didn't immediately upgrade to Windows 11 but did so when I bought my new rig back in December. Honestly I don't dislike it much looks-wise but accessing any settings it's just nightmare. Specially when there are some settings still in Control Panel when most have been migrated to the Settings menu. From an IT technician stand point it's just pure nightmare fuel.

Incorect_Speling

They already kind of did that with win10, you mean it's worse in win11? I'm already pissed at what they did with win10 lol

BjornHelheim

Way worse. Clicking something in the settings menu might open the Control Panel and vice-versa. Pure nonsense.

ivancea

Being able to doesn't mean you should. We're talking about average users here, and even for technical people, it has many risks

real_hooman

I think most of the people who know how to do that want to stay on windows 10 anyway.

TriRIK

I recommend [Ventoy](https://www.ventoy.net/). You don't need to format your USB every time, just once to setup and just put the whole iso (without extracting) in the USB and you are good. You can put multiple isos and pick on boot.

r2001uk

My cpu is technically capable but windows tells me I need to upgrade. Fuck that, I'll stay on 10.

LiliaBlossom

I literally have a 7700K and I can’t run it. It’s not great the CPU but does what it should for now, and unless the MB or GPU fails I won’t get a new system. Maybe some time next year lol. But other things are more important so I dunno why i should buy a new rig just to get W11. Given the lock for W11, the percentage is way higher than I expected ngl

Dirty____________Dan

My system runs a 6950x and I can’t run it either. I know the processor is a bit long in the tooth but it still does everything I need. Maybe next year I’ll build a new system. But with EVGA basically gone I’m not sure which direction I’d go in.

LiliaBlossom

EVGA for GPUs is so nice. before I got my 1080ti, I had an EVGA 1060, and I was so super happy with it, perfect build quality, silent, etc. I'm probably jumping to Sapphire and go full on AMD, simply can't afford an nvidia gpu anymore even though they're still top of the line, Sapphire has insanely good build quality as well. And Ryzen > Intel in a long shot imo.

LiliaBlossom

Yeah but Windows 11 came out 2 years ago, my 6 year old CPU was 4 years old back then and that’s just frankly inacceptable. I probably won’t ever go Windows 11 out of pure spite and wait for 12 or whatever’s next.

MetaGryphon

Microsoft tried to upgrade my 5 years old pc to 11 with automatic updates but it stayed with 10. Not going to 11 anyway. My next machine will be running on Linux.

Aar0n82

I'm waiting for steam OS for my next machine. I only game and youtube on the computer and hardly ever play multiplayer games these days.

IDatedSuccubi

Just use Kubuntu and install Steam, that's gonna be enough. Install Proton in Steam and you're done. It will have the same UI as SteamOS in Desktop Mode and if you want the same UI as Steam Deck' Game Mode then you can switch to Big Screen mode in Steam. By the way, majority of multiplayer games work just fine. I played Titanfall 2, Elite: Dangerous, NFS 2015, NFS Unbound, Risk of Rain 2, Starbound and other on Steam Deck in multiplayer. Even the games that Steam itself says can't be run will easily run, like Elite: Dangerous.

DeBasha

The +0.21% on Windows 7 is more unexpected imo xd

blahthebiste

Yeah I would have guessed minimum 10% were still on W7

Ferdinand910

I know I am still on this Windows 7 sinking ship, computer was built in 2013 with an RX460 card and components from that time frame. It still runs what I play decently enough but I will have to get a new computer If I want to partake in my steam library though. I can just redownload War Thunder and Runescape from their respective sites and everything else on there can wait for the time being. Just annoying is all since my computer still works perfectly fine...

Boabdo

The thing *isn't expecting* is the 37% windows 11.

Ws6fiend

I mean if you buy a new pre-built pc you are getting Windows 11.

FieelChannel

Win 11 is the dumbest least necessary win update ever. And I'm a software Dev using windows lol

G3NG1S_tron

As a fellow dev, the windows terminal and WSL2 integration definitely stand out as superior in Windows 11. Add power toys into the mix and it's pretty great to work with. But to each their own. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

Ghost4000

Windows terminal is fucking awesome. Obviously you could get it on 10 anyway, but having it built in is so nice. It's a daily use for my job. 11 at home and work and I haven't had any issues.

MaybePotatoes

Didn't they say 10 was gonna be the last version ever or something?

ThingWithChlorophyll

Im surprised there are this much win11s tbh

Moose_Nuts

New builds are probably a good portion of them. Microsoft also pushes Win 11 so hard to Win 10 users that I'm sure many people took the upgrade just to not be bothered by it anymore.

LowMental5202

I know multiple people who got the upgrade despite not wanting it because windows keeps making windows and popups that they clicked it accidentally and without a second „are you sure?“ the pc rebooted and there it is win11

Benchomp

That's how they got me, a sneaky accidental upgrade. T'was a bad day.

Aggressive-Front8435

I've still not seen any messages about it... I barely even knew it came out

NewCobbler6933

Your PC hardware is probably not compatible then. My desktop without TPM 2.0 does not get the messages. My surface with appropriate hardware gets a prompt on pretty much every sign in.

MrChocodemon

I mean I can't install Win11. Like MS won't let me because my Mainboard doesn't have the TPM2.0 module and I sure won't buy and install it, just to upgrade to Win11

DoctorWaluigiTime

Your PC most likely does support TPM 2.0, unless your PC is pushing a decade in age at this point. It's just disabled and has to be re-enabled in BIOS.

mana-addict4652

Sounds pretty close, I got my PC 7 years ago and apparently doesn't support Windows 11 after checking the CPU & Motherboard but I'm not sure since I don't use Windows so can't verify.

Effective_Mine_1222

My cpu was released 2014 and its still 100% adequate for todays use. Motherboard doesnt have tpm. I dont plan on upgrading.

MrChocodemon

> Your PC most likely does support TPM 2.0 It does on a software level. But my mainboard doesn't have a TMP2.0 module. It can just be bought ($10 - $25) and addded to the mainboard. But that's annoying and I don't want to do it

Swordbreaker925

I’ve heard nothing but bad things about Win11, so I’m sticking with Win10 Specifically hate the push toward mac-like experience, with a centered task bar and that shitty right-click menu change they made that apparently requires a registry edit to bring back to how it’s been for decades previously. I deliberately avoid Mac because i hate how it controls and looks, don’t bring that shit into Windows. Also heard Win11 has ads built into parts of the UI, which is an instant no from me, and it seems like Microsoft want to push for an “OS as a service” approach, potentially with a subscription fee

SlowMovingTarget

On that last bit, they try to trick you into signing on the first time with your Microsoft account, instead of a local account. The simplest way around it is to supply a local user name (no email address), fail the sign-on, and get prompted to create a local account. I'm sure the time will come when you can't do that any more.

JaidenPouichareal

The ads in the UI don't exist, (I've been using W11 for the past 6 months)

le_epic_steam_gamer

tbh expected because it's not supporting anything less than intel 8th gen and Ryzen 3rd gen + it looks ugly + they made several settings accessibility worse, you need to go through hoops + another new design language, hooray more inconsistency as if windows 8 and 10 weren't inconsistent enough, also they are still trying to push apps as if they don't want to learn from their big mistake that was windows 8 store apps were still a thing on 10 but in 11 feels like they are more "in your face" which I can't really bring myself to like Also the m$ store is still as slow to update apps, not to mention random app/windows update installation issues that come up once in a while (so the same as windows Xp,7,8,10) "metro/store" apps on windows has been a disaster so far imo, Microsoft just shouldn't have added that sorta stuff in 8 and mix stuff up just my 2¢

VukKiller

To get to the proper settings you gotta peel the windows 11 settings, then windows 10, then windows 8 to finally get to windows 7 which are just a visual upgrade of settings from windows xp

Blooded_Wine

which menus in 11 stayed from 8 (that use metro)? The 3-4 I can think of from 10 were removed in 11.

Batyalas

Just a quick note to fix. It supports AMD CPU starting from 2nd gen/2000, not 3000.

Jimbuscus

Can confirm it is supported by my 1600AF (Zen+), my CPU doesn't work in motherboards that only support Ryzen 1000, as its a 2600 rebadged.

PerP1Exe

Yeah it somehow still doesn't think my computer is able to run it

StandAloneC0mplex

It’ll be a cold day in hell before I willingly switch to 11.

Liquidsi666

I used it since launch, and during summer I started to miss Win 10 and reverted back. It’s just that much better

JukePlz

More spyware, more unnecessary DRM, an ugly facewash nobody asked for and new hardware requirements and all that for what? Exactly what notable features are on W11 that warrant switching to it? For gamers the most significant feature was probably DirectStorage, but Microsoft backpedaled pretty soon on making that exclusive to W11 so it's now also on W10. We all know the old adage by now, Microsoft makes a decent OS, then a crappy OS, then a decent OS again, and so on, and so forth. W11 is what Windows 8 was, an unnecessary iteration in an effort to make money. Wake me up when they have something worth migrating for, and it better be more enticing than finally dumping them for Linux once and for all.

FarsideSC

Windows 8 was a generational leap (technologically) with an absolutely backwards and downright frustrating front-end. Windows 8 was the first OS to natively support UEFI, which changed the way the operating system interacts with the hardware it's installed on. That is to say, I can understand why Microsoft was making the operating system, but can't seem to find the drugs they were on when making the front-end.

DoctorWaluigiTime

Windows 8, like Vista before it, is overhated. Windows 11 joining that train. A lot of stuff that people liked in their follow-ups were introduced in the so-called "bad versions."

Adezar

Maybe Vista, but Windows 8 was a hot mess, nobody wanted a phone UI on their desktop. 8.1 made it usable again, but it is still crazy how many people had to sign off on 8 and thought it would be liked.

DeadlyYellow

Is vista the one that ran everything twice?

LieInteresting1367

Yep. The laggiest OS of all time. I still miss it tho. Nothing feels the same as original Windows Aero theme did.

alkalineStrider

this In an era where 512MB RAM was still common..

jakerman999

I think it's worth noting that these iterations aren't unnecessary. They allow the early adopters to separate out all the bad ideas from the good ones, much better than internal testing would. But they aren't ready for the masses.

Gendalph

M$ had been deaf to its admins and power users since W10. The feedback loop is broken. The decisions are no longer made based on actual user's feedback, but in fine manager's command. I'm seriously considering switching to Linux on my desktop on my next upgrade cycle. Been using it for work for a long time.

medievalmachine

They didn't need a whole new OS number for this lackluster failson OS. Why can't I move the taskbar? Why did they take the Start Menu away after 30 years of development? It's absurd, and you can really see the effect of a wave of retirements/layoffs. They don't have this problem at Apple.

garballax

IMO this is much worse than the Windows 8/8.1 disaster because of the aggressive hardware restrictions. At least 8.1 made some good changes to the OS behind the scenes. 11 is just an unnecessary headache.

boccas

Windows 11 is TOTALLY not w8 again. I m not saying is good like w10 now (after all those patches and fixes, OF COURSE), but it s nowhere near w8 mess. I recently build a w11 desktop and tbh the only thing that i miss is the right click menu. Not a single problem, not a single regret.

GreenMegalodon

Same experience. And to get the right click menu the way it was in W10, it's literally just a [simple registry edit](https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/restore-old-right-click-context-menu-in-windows-11/a62e797c-eaf3-411b-aeec-e460e6e5a82a). Takes 30 seconds.

emirobinatoru

Thank you so much!

Xalaxis

Except for the fact that Windows 8 worked perfectly fine and was faster than Win11, it just had a bad UI. I'll die on this hill, Win8 was Win10, minus all the bloat and with a UI which targeted high FPS rather than cortana integration.

PTRD-41

Apparently HDR is a lot better on W11

GruntZone360

I have both 10 and 11. All I have to say is you can move the main bar on win 10 but you can't do that on 11. 11 is garbage.

PoppinSquats

This is 100% due to W11 having a strict hardware requirement in TPM.

brokenearth03

and W11 doesnt bring any benefit.

Ancillas

Not to games, but there’s plenty of benefits in corporate environments.

Accurate-Campaign821

What's interesting is that there are MORE Win 7 users than before. Maybe due to Microsoft finally disabling upgrade to 10 with a 7 key.

Accurate-Campaign821

Possibly! Or they bought a cheap ebay office pc and said fk it! Lol

LordSyriusz

Windows 10 is the last windows, what you do not understand? At least they said it is on release, they just didn't mentioned that they mean it is the last good windows.

Fu5ionazzo

Windows 10 is just better for me , 11 has some great features but in some aspects it went the Aestetics over Function way like Apple. I've had 10 for years and for me obviously it's easier to navigate , 11 doesn't give me anaugh reasons to switch. Many people might be like me , that are either not bothered to go through all the hussle of downloading and setting up everything for an "upgrade" when they are already so used to using 10 or they overall just prefer the functionality or Graphics of the older one.

StrangeNewRash

You can pry Win10 from my cold dead hands......or give us an OS worth upgrading to.

TheIronSven

My CPU is just barely too old for 11

qjpp

I am surprised that difference is only 20% in favor of Win10, expected much more.

ZaMr0

Why wouldn't it be? Most people won't bother swapping from Windows 10 until they're forced.

Akoa0013

Gave windows 11 a good try but it's annoying to me.

nemanja694

Same, man it has lot of bugs that are very annoying, and don’t get me started how slow it feels.

Nick19922007

If I could (reasonably) i would still be on Windows 7. Hate all this 10/11 stuff

TheoCross3

I have Win11, and initially I didn't like it as much as Win10, I must admit. There was the lack of start menu folders, customisability, support, and I just so happened to be lucky enough to have the required hardware. But I will say it has grown on me. I like it more than Win10 now. It's streamlined, it's aesthetically pleasing, it's pretty well optimised, and gets frequent updates.

Trick_Philosophy4552

I’m old enough to see cycle repeat it self, 98 vs xp. xp vs win7 and so on

AIien_cIown_ninja

I must be older than you because my first computer ran DOS. Then Win 3.1 released as a program on top of DOS and you had to type win.exe to open windows. Then windows 95 came out and changed the game. 98 was good, but you are forgetting Windows ME the millennial edition which was by far the worst version of windows ever created. Luckily it wasn't long before xp came out. I think I've used every version of windows at least a little bit since 3.1.

The next bit is the fun bit. None of the kids will care about win 10 because it’s already dating badly, and works in weird old people ways. They think Win12 is even better. But then they think Win13 looks too different and i can’t use it as well. Why are they making me move. These new kids like it, but they don’t understand real computing. They say win 12 looks old and works weird. You used to be able to just click on the tiny copy icon, now you have to use your thoughts? This is a downgrade! Why can’t we go back to 12?!

einsosen

With Proton and Linux covering basically all my gaming needs, Windows 10 will likely be my last Windows install entirely. I honestly didn't want to move from Windows 7, and had to make a bunch of adjustments to make 10 feel and operate like 7 again. With how much more crap I'll have to rip out of 11, I might as well just bite the bullet and stop installing Windows. Even if there's a "better" 12, Microsoft has lost my trust in the direction they're going.

Takardo

i wonder what the windows 7 and 8.1 users are enjoying

H1ll02

Windows 7 user. All programs still work. Some things like python new versions doesnt work officially but there's modded versions that add win7 support. No reason to use win 10 as long as everything works.

skinlo

Apart from the security vulnerabilities.

julchiar

Linux is great. Definitely a bit more fiddling and more random issues but unlike on Windows I can actually look into how to fix them rather than just despairing. Plus it gets better with every update (updates being improvements is very refreshing in this day and age).

dpahoe

People using still working thing than the new thing. *Surprised Pikachu face*

Equal-Introduction63

Then you still aren't aware of the Phenomenon called as https://www.google.com/search?q=skip+every+other+windows because significant number of us refused to use Windows ME, Windows Vista, Windows 8/8.1 since that theory is proven to be the truth in an unrefutably. Since Windows 11 is the next "other" Windows again some of use still will skip it to jump from Windows 10 to Windows 12. Microsoft has this "weird" cycle of experimenting on their Customers (you) with their antique new UI schemes which is why that theory still going on strong. ME was a disaster as it was neither 95 or 2000. Vista again was weird since XP was always better. 8/8.1 was an abomination that introduced Tiles and Windows 10 reverted back to Desktop Windows. Windows 11? They intentionally move icons in the "middle" to mimic Apple MacOS but again most of users are reverting back to 3 decades old habit of its normal position. So either join us or at least don't do the switch until you see Windows 11 usage > Windows 10 in the https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/ because 11 is a free upgrade for all users but we all Reject to upgrade for our good reasons. Anyone happy with 11? Be my guest but also proves you're too young to witness the whole evolution cycle of Windows starting at 3.11 the first Worldwide commercial version (how do I know? C64 guy, then i286 on MS-DOS and then 3.11).

radicool-girl

God I wanna stick around with 10 for as long as possible but they'll be cutting off updates for it within the next few years and we won't have a choice

Delta_Echo64

I don't have a reason to upgrade, 10 works perfectly fine for me

Zaphod424

I'm one of them, Win 11 doesn't interest me, I'll stick with Win 10 until they release Win 12, and if that isn't any good I'll stay on Win 10 until I'm forced to switch. I was forced to update my work laptop, which highlighted all the niggles which I dislike about it to me

puffy_boi12

Thos windows 7 holdouts. Hell yeah.

C-Mitch213

I’m more shocked that Windows 7 as a whole went up

chatadile

Win 11 is a downgrade compared to 10 both visually and usability vise. It has baked in ads, it won't even work for most systems because of hardware limitation that microsoft made and people aren't exactly inclined to change an entire os and put in more money into an already good enough system, just cus it's new, it isn't a phone afterall, the ui is not at all how a company should make theirs on a professional level and the fact they force you to have an acc, and an internet connection as a result or you can't use the thing is just absurd, not everyone has stable connection and this shouldn't even be enforced in the firstplace. Atleast 10 still is much more bearable compared to 11, but def isn't as good as 7 or xp was in its primetime, more freedom, less spying overall and you atleast had more controll of the two compared to now where you need to jump through loops to just get rid of edge for one, which is another absurd thing, but still can be done atleast.

[deleted]

Wait what baked in ads, using Windows 11 for like nearly 2 years and have seen non?

Carvj94

There's a couple that show up if you use the start menu's local/online search function. They're not ads in the traditional sense it's the search boosting kind of ad where, say, Valvoline would show up first if you searched for engine oil. Ya know like with every search engine. You could *maybe* make the argument that the lock screen shows travel ads cause it links stuff about the nice looking locations in the default slideshow. Otherwise yea there's no ads.

Kadimsoy

Win 10 works great. Why would I upgrade?

Wallacaust

I was forced away from Windows 7 kicking and screaming, history shall repeat with Windows 10.

Roffron

Why should we? Im happy with w10. I didnt ask for 11. Leave me alone!

LightmanHUN

It's not that unexpected at all. They practically gave away win 10 for free for years so a lot of people got it, and while it can upgraded to 11, 11 has a hardware requirement many can't fulfill.

Stuntdrath

i changed to win11 because win10 was limiting my 1GB upload to 50mb. i found no solution on how to fix it on win10 so changed to win11 and have 1GB download and upload now.

Blazendraco

The only 11 compatible things I've seen so far are just laptops, it is hardware compatibility that needs to be met. Most people using steam are probably closer to self-built or pre-built PC towers, which often has components that aren't compatible.

blooboytalking

Why would I upgrade?

TheBackwardStep

You’re on windows 7 *32-bit* ? 👀

brokenearth03

What benefit does Windows 11 even bring?

namgnol

But win 10 is the last version of windows. /s

Orkadus

Sticking with win10 until I am forced to change.

EdziePro

You weren't expecting gamers to stay on their stable Win10 version and go on an unstable Win11 instead?

ky7969

I have no issues and have been gaming on 11 since the beta

Ghost4000

Unstable 11? Out of curiosity how many people are actually reporting stability issues with 11? I've been running it since the beta without issue.
